Le travail se signale par le fait de présenter pour la première fois la traduction, l'analyse et le commentaire de trois discours qui n'ont pas encore fait l'objet d'une traduction en langue moderne. Dans l'introduction sont concentrés les aspects les plus particuliers et les plus nouveaux de la recherche. Les textes, caractérisés par des artifices rhétoriques et des fondements idéologiques, à une première lecture, suscitent une certaine méfiance. Mais tout d'abord l'analyse interne des discours et la comparaison, là où c'est possible, et ensuite la documentation objective ont ouvert la possibilité d'une utilisation de ces discours comme documents historiques, après une lecture du texte, qui, en hiérarchisant ses niveaux de signification, a permis d'en tirer des problématiques concrètes. I present the construction of a low-velocity intense source (LVIS) of laser-cooled neutral strontium using permanent ring magnets. The LVIS consists of a magneto-optical trap from which cold strontium is extracted in a well-collimated beam. I also present the development and implementation of a full suite of low-noise, high-bandwidth laser control electronics including a microcontroller unit. This microcontroller remotely controls and monitors the current driver, temperature controller, and PID lock circuit for each diode laser simultaneously. The current driver output is accurate to within 2 micro-amps and repeatable to with a few nano-amps. The noise spectral density of the current driver hits a floor of 10^(-10) amps per root Hz at ~50 Hz and has a modulation bandwidth of ~50 MHz. The PID lock-circuit includes a scan-balancing option that we have used to scan an AR coated laser diode ~30 GHz mode-hop free. I describe the construction of an 80 mW frequency doubled 461 nm laser system using PPKTP for cooling and trapping neutral strontium in the LVIS. The LVIS, the electronics systems, and the 461 nm laser system represent major milestones on the way to producing a matter-wave interferometer using Sr-87 ions. The interferometer is based on an optical Raman transition between the hyperfine ground states of the Sr-87 ion. The ions will be produced by exciting the strontium LVIS beam to an auto-ionizing state in the continuum. In the interferometer two half-pi pulses of light and one pi pulse will be delivered to the ions to split and recombine their wave functions. I present calculations of the predicted sensitivity and a discussion of the possible applications. I present a method for locking a 407.8 nm laser to the 5s doublet S J=1/2 to 5p doublet P J=3/2 strontium ion transition in a neutral vapor. I present calculations for the necessary vacuum levels for the experiment and describe the preparation and assembly of the vacuum apparatus. The major vacuum system consists of two connected elastomer sealed chambers: one at 10^(-7) Torr and the other at 10^(-10) Torr separated by a region of low conductance. I present a Sr vapor cell constructed from standard CF fittings that allows the strontium to be heated to ~730 C, which can also be run as a thermal beam. I present a method for protecting the viewports on small-form alkali-earth vapor cells using lead or indium foil during the evaporation of oxide layers. Finally, I report on the current status of the experiment as well as detail future work on the apparatus.

The aim of this master’s thesis is to implement an ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter) foraudio applications using external components together with an FPGA (Field-ProgrammableGate Array). The focus is on making the ADC low-cost and it is desirable to achieve 16-bitresolution at 48 KS/s. Since large FPGA’s have numerous I/O-pins, there are usually someunused pins and logic available in the FPGA that can be used for other purposes. This istaken advantage of, to make the ADC as low-cost as possible.This thesis presents two solutions: (1) a - (Sigma-Delta) converter with a first order passive loop-filter and (2) a - converter with a second order active loop-filter. The solutionshave been designed on a PCB (Printed Curcuit Board) with a Xilinx Spartan-6 FPGA. Bothsolutions take advantage of the LVDS (Low-Voltage-Differential-Signaling) input buffers inthe FPGA.(1) achieves a peak SNDR (Signal-to-noise-and-distortion-ratio) of 62.3 dB (ENOB (Effectivenumber of bits) 10.06 bits) and (2) achieves a peak SNDR of 80.3 dB (ENOB 13.04). (1) isvery low-cost ($0.06) but is not suitable for high-precision audio applications. (2) costs $0.53for mono audio and $0.71 for stereo audio and is comparable with the solution used today:an external ADC (PCM1807).

Silicon with its mature integration platform has brought electronic circuits to mass-market applications; silicon photonics will most probably follow this evolution. However, there are still many technological challenges to be addressed in order to realize silicon photonics technology. One of the key challenges is building a complete design environment interfaced with standard EDA tools; as in microelectronics, this would enable the creation of photonic libraries and photonic IP blocks. In this study, we focus on developing a physical verification (PV) flow for the silicon photonics technology.There are a number of components from the traditional CMOS IC physical verification world that can be borrowed. All, however, will require some modification due to the distinct nature of photonic circuits. We study the photonic circuit PV requirements, in comparison with those for traditional IC designs. The most significant limitation of current PV tools is to handle non- Manhattan layout designs. We adapt industrial standard PV tools to perform efficient and reliable design rule checking (DRC) that validates non-Manhattan like layout. We also propose methodologies and develop a layout versus schematic (LVS) checking flow specific to the non- Manhattan characteristics and photonic circuit verification requirements. The flow is capable of verifying photonic circuit layout implementation (or even manufactured silicon) with regard to the intended design. The developed flows are demonstrated with Mentor Graphics Pyxis design environment and Calibre® PV tool suit. As generic methodologies, they can also be in principle adopted in other EDA tool environments in order to verify the physical implementation of the photonic designs. Such a PV flow is essential for bringing the silicon photonics technology onto the real CMOS streamlineLa plate-forme d'intégration silicium est arrivée à maturité, et a amené les circuits intégrés électroniques (IC) aux applications du marché de masse ; la photonique sur silicium va suivre probablement cette évolution. Dans cette étude, nous nous concentrons sur l’adaptation et le développement du flot de vérification physique (PV, ou « physical verification ») pour la conception photonique sur silicium.Il y a un certain nombre de concepts de PV existant pour le CMOS traditionnel qui peuvent être empruntés. Tous, cependant, nécessiteront quelques modifications en raison de la nature distincte du circuit photonique. Nous étudions les exigences de PV pour les circuits photoniques, en comparaison avec celles de la conception de circuits intégrés traditionnels. La limitation la plus importante des outils de PV actuels est de traiter les layout « non-Manhattan ». Nousadaptons des outils industriels standards pour effectuer un « design rule checking » (DRC) efficace et fiable qui valide les layout non-Manhattan. Nous proposons également des méthodologies et développons un flot « layout versus schematic » (LVS) spécifique aux caractéristiques non-Manhattan et aux exigences de vérification de circuits photoniques. Le flot est capable de vérifier le layout du circuit photonique (ou même le silicium fabriqué du circuit) en ce qui concerne la conception cible. Les flots développés sont démontrées avec les outils de Mentor Graphics – Pyxis (l’environnement de dessin) et Calibre® (les outils de PV). Comme les méthodologies génériques, ils peuvent aussi être en principe adoptés dans d'autres outils EDA afin d'effectuer la vérification de la réalisation de la conception du circuit photonique. The central aim of this study was to characterise the expression of the candidate tumour suppressor gene, LV/-J (lentivirus integration-I) and its products. The LVI-J gene (WDR76) was discovered as a target for disruption by proviral insertional mutagenesis in a case of pre-B cell lymphoma in a FIV infected cat {Beatty, 1998 5 lid; Beatty, 2002 7 lid}. As LV/-J is highly conserved, my work focused on the human and murine orthologues to take advantage of the superior resources available for these species. My work showed potentially important differences in expression of the human and mouse genes with respect to promoter use and length of 3' untranslated sequences. The murine gene is transcribed mainly from the distal PI promoter, which appears to be a bi-directional element shared with the adjacent MJapJ gene, while the human gene transcripts are derived exclusively from the proximal P2 promoter. Direct analysis by RT-PCR showed that the murine gene could also be expressed from the P2 promoter. These findings have significant implications for Lvi-l protein expression as the P2 transcripts are predicted to express larger proteins with a distinct N-terminal sequence. To characterise the LV/-J gene products, rabbit polyclonal antisera were raised to GST fusion proteins expressed in bacteria. Use of the murine anti-ml.vi-I antiserum in Western blotting identified a protein of the expected size (58 kDa) based on translation of the major mRNA species from the PI promoter. Immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy suggested that this protein is localised mainly in the cytoplasm. Although the function of LVI-I is unknown, its closest relative in the human genome is DDB2, a protein involved in repair of UV-induced DNA damage. Regulation of LVI-I expression was examined after UV irradiation, providing preliminary evidence of responses at transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels. Further leads were followed by analogy with the yeast orthologue of LVI-I, YDLI56W, but no evidence of a complex between LVI-I and MSH6 was found. In conclusion, while function of the LVI-I gene remains to be establishes, it provides the basis for future characterisation of this highly conserved and potentially important eukaryotic gene.

Thesis (MEng)--Stellenbosch University, 2015.ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Thorough layout verification of superconductor integrated circuits goes beyond design rule checking and parameter value extraction. The former is used to verify adherence to process design rules, and the latter to determine the element values of components such as inductors and resistors and Josephson junction critical currents. Still, neither gives much warning against subtle layout errors that could result in unintended parasitic elements, or a circuit that does not reflect the original circuit topology. A specialized implementation for Cadence Virtuoso allows layout-versus-schematic verification, but it is limited both to commercial software and in terms of its usefulness. Parameter extraction software such as InductEx is used to extract the component element values of a circuit from its layout if the circuit topology is provided as a netlist, which is mostly created by the designer. However, the element values are extracted for the supplied topology, even if a layout mistake such as creating a connection to the wrong node or a mistake in the netlist results in a model mismatch. After a failed verification, further diagnosis is required to determine whether the error is indeed in the layout or in the input topology - prolonging the verification process significantly. Here we present a free-standing layout-versus-schematic verification toolkit for superconductive integrated circuits, and discuss its implementation after systematically considering the algorithms at its core. We demonstrate results of the layout-versus-schematic verification and how the layout-versus-schematic toolkit is used as a whole in conjunction with InductEx to perform automated parameter extraction for cell-level layout verification. The current version of this toolkit provides the user with three stand-alone tools that are best used in conjunction with InductEx: A GDSII file flattener, a layout-to-schematic netlist extractor (with the option of viewing a pictorial reconstruction of the netlist and schematic) and a netlist comparison tool by which the user can determine whether a layout agrees with an input schematic. We conclude that the netlist comparison and viewing tool provides a valuable method for expediting the layout verification process, making it more efficient and minimizing the chances of mistakes. In its current form the layout-to schematic tool is still limited in that it cannot yet fully support circuits with mutual coupling. Although many improvements can still be made to this toolkit, the implemented version of these tools can already provide great benefit to Rapid Single Flux quantum (RSFQ) cell designers.

I analyze Lviv outskirt settlement Sokilnyky in Ukraine in order to find out which social structures, emerged or reconstituted after the collapse of the Soviet Union, are expressed in cultural landscape and how. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and redirection of Ukrainian economy to the neoliberal way of economy and the emergence of the distinctive post-socialist form of capitalism (Hirt 2012), largest cities’ environs became places of drastic change in demography, housing, infrastructure, land-use and landscape. Former predominantly agricultural areas became desirable places to live for the new rich Ukrainians. In addition suburbs were commercialized with the emergence of segregated commercial units including big box shopping malls. Currently post-socialist suburbs are mixed income with different social classes coexisting in one area face to face, however the segregation of affluent people is evident in new residential areas where fortress houses have emerged. At the same time Lviv suburbs still retain their rural face with supplemental family farming practiced mainly by long-term residents. After the strict planning regulations during the Soviet period, nowadays the lack of planning and architectural regulations together with drastic privatization of former agrarian land created eclectic landscapes being also the landscapes of privilege and inequality.

A pe?a caracteriza-se pela ideia de continuidade constante do som que se transforma atrav?s de diferentes texturas, timbres, din?micas e gestos musicais fazendo uso de t?cnicas estendidas, incluindo grandes se??es em sul tasto tocando em tr?s cordas simultaneamente, trinados de harm?nicos naturais, trinados com harm?nicos naturais abafados, col legno battuto, diferentes tipos de glissando e sons simult?neos de notas harm?nicas e n?o harm?nicas contribuem para uma riqueza de sons e camadas que formam essas texturas. O presente artigo investiga a rela??o do compositor com o violoncelo e contextualiza o Respons?rio ao Vento dentro da produ??o de Silvio Ferraz para o instrumento, analisando as influ?ncias do compositor e abordando aspectos t?cnicos e interpretativos da pe?a a partir de experi?ncias de palco.
Recognized for his relevant writing for the cello, Silvio Ferraz wrote , in 2012, Segundo Respons?rio for cello solo and chamber group which followed Respons?rio ao Vento , a version of the same piece for solo cello . The work is characterized by the idea of continuity of sound moving through different textures , timbres , dynamics and musical gestures. The composer uses extended techniques, such as large sections in sul tasto playing three strings simultaneously, trills of natural harmonics , muffled trills with natural harmonics , col legno batuto , different types of glissando and simultaneous sounds of harmonic and non harmonic notes corroborate to a wealth of sounds and layers that create different textures. This article investigates the relationship of the composer with the cello, and relates Respons?rio ao Vento to his other works and studies the influences of the composer addressing technical and interpretive aspects of the piece drawn from performance experiences.

Undersökningen har gjorts i ett webbkluster (Apache var webbservern som användes) med tre heterogena noder, där operativsystemet var den detalj som skiljde dem åt. Operativsystemen som ingick i undersökningen var Windows Server 2008 R2, CentOS 6.2 och FreeBSD 9.0. De faktorer som undersöktes mellan de olika algoritmerna var klustrets genomsnittliga svarstid vid olika belastning och hur många anslutningar som kunde hanteras av klustret, detta gjordes med verktyget httperf. Undersökningen ger svar på hur ett heterogent webbklusters genomsnittligasvarstid och arbetskapacitet kan skilja sig åt beroende på vilken algoritm som används för lastbalansering. Resultatet visar att den genomsnittliga svarstiden håller sig låg tills en hastig stigning inträffar. Shortest Expected Delay och Weighted Least-Connection Scheduling kunde hantera störst antal anslutningar.This report covers an investigation of different load balancing algorithms in Linux Virtual Server. The investigation was done in a web cluster (with Apache as the software being used) consisting of three heterogeneous nodes, where the operating system was the detail that differentiated the nodes. The operating systems that were used in the investigation were Windows Server 2008 R2, CentOS 6.2 and FreeBSD 9.0. The factors examined were average response time at different load and how many connections the cluster could cope with, these factors were examined by measurements taken with the tool httperf. The investigation gives an answer to how a heterogeneous web clustersaverage response time and working capacity can be affected by the choice of load balancing algorithm. The result shows that the average response time stays low until a sudden rise occurs. Shortest Expected Delay and Weighted Least-Connection Scheduling could handle the largest number of connections.

The students made a specialized method to execute the redesign. They found out that the focus of the redesign should lay on: easy to use, reliable result and appealing for the user. With this taken in consideration the students achieved to design a more competitive reading machine. Prototypes where made for a new camera arm (which goes high enough to scan A3 format) and a new control panel. The students gave a recommendation how to continue with the project from now on.

Para sistematizar o estudo é feita uma apresentação dos métodos de interpretação da norma jurídica, da norma jurídica em nível constitucional e do papel do legislador na elaboração das leis. Em seguida, apresenta-se uma cronologia da identificação e sua evolução histórica, para proporcionar uma completa compreensão das razões pela qual o legislador decidiu incluir no bojo da Constituição o dispositivo normativo em comento. Analisa-se, de forma especial, a lei 10.054/00 com o objetivo de identificar seu papel na aplicação da norma constitucional em apreço. A legislação alienígena escolhida é a Lusitana, em face da sua semelhança com a norma brasileira. O estiramento do tecido cardíaco e níveis elevados de hormonas circulantes são importantes iniciadores da remodelação que, sendo inicialmente um processo compensatório, acaba por se tornar deletério. Estes estímulos levam a vários tipos de remodelação: estrutural, mecânica e elétrica. A compreensão dos vários mecanismos de remodelação é essencial para o desenvolvimento de novas abordagens terapêuticas à doença cardíaca. Os métodos imagiológicos são importantes no diagnóstico da doença cardíaca na medida em que permitem avaliar o grau de remodelação estrutural e mecânica do coração. No presente trabalho, comparou-se os resultados do exame radiográfico (VHS) de pacientes apresentados à consulta com parâmetros do exame ecocardiográfico, no que respeita à dimensão e função do átrio e ventrículo esquerdos. Os resultados sugeriram que o VHS se correlaciona positivamente com o DIVEs e o DIVEd, embora a intensidade desta correlação seja moderada, desencorajando a extrapolação de um valor a partir do outro.
ABSTRACT - Cardiac remodeling: comparison between VHS and echocardiographic parameters of dimension and function of the dog’s left heart - Cardiac remodeling is a process taking place when the load conditions of the heart change in terms of volume, pressure or contractility. Stretching of the cardiac tissue and high levels of circulating hormones are important triggers for remodeling. This remodeling, being a compensatory process, eventually becomes deleterious. These stimuli lead to different types of remodeling: structural, mechanical and electrical. Understanding the mechanisms of remodeling is a key factor in developing new therapeutical approaches to heart disease. Imagiologic methods are important in heart disease diagnosis as they allow us to access the degree of mechanical and structural heart remodeling. This work compares the results of the radiologic exam (VHS) with echocardiographic parameters related to dimension and function of the left atrium and ventricle (LVDs, LVDd, FS and EPSS). The results suggest a positive correlation between VHS and the LVDs and LVDd values. However, this correlation is of moderate intensity, cautioning against any extrapolation of one of the results from the other.

In the end it is established that following steps should be followed during the development of a docking station: - Make sure that the cables are reliably fastened into the docking station and that the connectors can handle the docking force. - Design to use more material with lower environmental impact and ensure that the material fulfils the product requirements and objectives. Use as small amount of material as possible. - Prioritize the customers’ expressed and unexpressed needs as one of the highest priorities during the development process.

The mechanisms by which the facultative intracellular pathogen Francisella tularensis is recognized by the innate immune system and the strategies that F. tularensis uses to avoid this recognition are not well understood. We have identified the basic components of the inflammasome that assemble in response to F. tularensis Live Vaccine Strain (LVS) challenge as containing the cysteine protease caspase-1, the adaptor protein ASC and the PYHIN molecule AIM2. We have also shown here that the nucleotide-binding domain leucine-rich repeat containing receptors (NLRs), NLRC4, NLRP3, NLRP6, NLRP10, and NLRP12 were not necessary for activation of caspase-1 and subsequent IL-1β secretion in response to challenge with F. tularensis LVS in vitro. In vivo, NLRC4, NLRP3, NLRP6, NLRP10, and NLRP12 did not appear to enhance survival. However, caspase-1- and ASC-deficient mice succumbed more rapidly to infection, indicating that the inflammasome played a role in defense against F. tularensis LVS. Additionally, we identified a gene with homology to Escherichia coli mviN, a putative lipid II flippase, that functions as a F. tularensis virulence factor. In vivo infection of mice with a F. tularensis LVS mviN transposon mutant (mviN::Tn5) resulted in improved host survival and decreased bacterial burdens compared to infection with wild-type F. tularensis LVS. Wild-type F. tularensis LVS and the mviN::Tn5 mutant replicated at a similar rate in both macrophages and liquid broth culture. Additionally, the ability to induce the production of TNF-α or IL-6 was also similar between WT F. tularensis and the mviN::Tn5 mutant. In contrast to the similar levels of production of IL-6 and TNF-α, the mviN mutant induced increased AIM2 inflammasome-dependent IL-1β secretion and cytotoxicity in macrophages compared to wild-type F. tularensis. The compromised in vivo virulence associated with the mutation of mviN was dependent upon inflammasome activation, as caspase-1- and ASC-deficient mice did not exhibit preferential survival following infection. These data show that F. tularensis LVS activation of the inflammasome is caspase-1-, ASC-, and AIM2-dependent. These data also identify mviN as a novel F. tularensis virulence factor that enables F. tularensis LVS to evade some AIM2 inflammasome activation.

This Master thesis is focused on the study of the inflationary dynamics coming from new corrections added to the standard LVS framework used in the context of moduli stabilisation in type IIB string compactifications on Calabi-Yau orientifolds. The closed string sector of the 4D effective supergravity theory features 3 classes of moduli: the dilaton which sets the string coupling, the complex structure moduli which parameterise the shape of the extra dimensions, and the Kaehler moduli whose vacuum expectation value controls the size of the extra dimensions. At tree-level the dilaton and the complex structure moduli are stabilised supersymmetrically in terms of 3-form flux quanta. On the other hand, the Kaehler moduli are flat directions due to the underlying no-scale cancellation. It is therefore important to study which perturbative or non-perturbative correction to the effective action generates the leading order no-scale breaking effect. Several contributions have been studied in the past ranging from ED3 instantons, gaugino condensation, alpha' corrections and string loops. In this Master thesis we will focus in particular on new string loop corrections to the Kaehler potential which have been derived recently by Antoniadis and collaborators. These corrections introduce a Kaehler moduli-depedent logarithmic shift of the Calabi-Yau volume that breaks the no-scale structure. We analyse the effect of these new corrections on known moduli stabilisation scenarios like KKLT and LVS and then study its repercussions on cosmological and inflationary quantities in order to make some realistic predictions and match experimental data.

A busca por aumento de desempenho de sistemas computacionais é cada vez maior em empresas e pesquisas científicas. Essa necessidade existe por conta do surgimento de aplicações complexas que necessitam de um grande poder computacional para serem executadas eficientemente. A utilização de arquiteturas alternativas como FPGAs nesse contexto têm sido realizada com o intuito de prover excelente desempenho na execução dessas aplicações. Atualmente, sistemas envolvendo múltiplos FPGAs são utilizados em diversas aplicações científicas. A tendência é que em tais sistemas sejam desenvolvidos de forma a permitir escalabilidade de dispositivos, possibilitando que mais FPGAs possam fazer parte da arquitetura e aumentando o desempenho. Para que esses sistemas possam funcionar de forma eficiente, utilizando paralelamente recursos existentes nos FPGAs, uma comunicação eficiente deve existir entre os FPGAs disponíveis na plataforma. Geralmente esse tipo de comunicação, em FPGAs de última geração, se dá por meio de interfaces tipo LVDS (Sinalização Diferencial de Baixa Tensão) e por meio de transceptores e receptores. A sinalização LVDS permite o envio de sinais em alta velocidade através de um par diferencial de fios paralelos. A utilização desse recurso permite que a transmissão de dados entre os dispositivos possa ser realizada de forma mais eficiente, possibilitando uma comunicação mais segura contra interferências eletromagnéticas. Outro fator importante é que o roteamento que interconecta os pinos LVDS na plataforma deve ser desenvolvido com precisão para evitar instabilidades na comunicação. Infelizmente, muitas plataformas disponíveis no mercado não observam tais restrições, limitando a taxa de transferência no barramento. Este trabalho apresenta um canal de comunicação inter-FPGAs baseado em uma interface DDR voltado para esse tipo de plataforma. Esta abordagem promove uma comunicação estável entre esses dispositivos sem a utilização de pinos LVDS. Um módulo de detecção de erro também foi desenvolvido para garantir a integridade das transferências e corrigir possíveis erros no barramento. O canal foi validado em uma plataforma comercial. Os resultados de síntese e desempenho são apresentados nesse trabalho bem como os estudos de caso envolvidos.

Des défaillances peuvent intervenir à tout moment dans la chaîne d'un produit, que ce soit au niveau conception, durant la qualification du produit, lors de la production, ou encore lors de son utilisation. Il est donc important d'étudier ces défauts dans le but d'améliorer la fiabilité des produits. De plus, avec l'augmentation de la densité et de la complexité des puces, il est de plus en plus difficile de localiser les défauts, et ce malgré l'amélioration des techniques d'analyses. Ce travail de thèse s'inscrit dans ce contexte et vise à étudier et développer une nouvelle technique d'analyse de défaillance basée sur l'étude de l'onde laser réfléchie le "Laser Voltage Imaging" (LVI) pour l'analyse de défaillance des technologies ultimes (inférieur à 45nm).

Active safety systems for automobiles in the form of camera systems have evolved rapidly the last ten years, Autoliv Electronics in Linköping develops multiple such systems. In their development process there is a need for a Break out Box (BoB) to record and playback video and CAN data as if the camera system was used in an actual automobile. The aim of this thesis has been to develop a BoB for these camera systems. The work has been divided into three phases; identification of requirements, design of the BoB and implementation of a prototype. The project has addressed four known issues with the currently used BoB; bandwidth, modularity, synchronization and usability. The result is a new BoB which is based on an FPGA connecting to a PC over Gigabit Ethernet. The design is an extendible platform for multiple channels of video, CAN data, other serial data and future extensions. A prototype proves the design concept by successfully recording video for the Autoliv NightVision system onto a PC.

Melhor sincronia entre os compartimentos da caixa torácica tem sido identificada como um dos fatores para a redução da dispnéia e aumento da capacidade de exercício após a cirurgia de redução de volume pulmonar (CRVP).Para elucidar os efeitos da CRVP nas variações de volume da caixa torácica em repouso e durante exercício, seis pacientes (VEF1% 26,5 ± 5,5 e VR 224,6 ± 30,2%) foram avaliados antes CRVP, 1 e 3 meses após a cirurgia. Provas de função pulmonar e teste de caminhada de 6 minutos, mudanças de volume da caixa torácica pulmonar (RCp), caixa torácica abdominal (RCa) e abdome (AB) foram registradas pela Pletismografia Opto-Eletrônica (POE) em repouso e durante um teste de exercício incremental em esteira. Após a CRVP, todos os valores espirométricos, os volumes pulmonares, escores de dispnéia e teste de caminhada de 6 minutos melhoraram significativamente. Antes da cirurgia, volume expiratório final da caixa torácica tendeu a diminuir no início do exercício e aumentar depois. Por outro lado, após a cirurgia, o aumento do volume expiratório final foi significativa a partir de 1 mph para a velocidade máxima, o que foi totalmente devido as mudanças de volume do abdômen. O sincronismo entre PCR e AB também melhorou em 1 e 3 meses após o CRVP (p <0,001, p <0,05, respectivamente). Em conclusão, em pacientes com DPOC grave LVRS modifica a ação da musculatura abdominal expiratória e melhora a sincronização entre a caixa torácica pulmonar e o abdome. Estas melhorias são associadas e, possivelmente, explicam o aumento da capacidade de exercício e da diminuição da dispnéia.Better-synchronized chest wall displacement has been identified as one of the factors for the reduction of dyspnea and increase in exercise capacity after Lung Volume Reduction Surgery (LVRS). To elucidate the effects of LVRS on chest wall volume variations at rest and during exercise six patients (FEV1 26.5±5.5 % and RV 224.6±30.2 %) were studied before LVRS, 1 and 3 months after the surgery. Pulmonary function test and 6-min walking test, volume changes of the pulmonary rib cage (RCp), abdominal rib cage and abdomen (AB) were recorded by Opto-Electronic-Plethysmography (OEP) at rest and during an incremental test on a treadmill. After LVRS, all spirometric and lung volume values, dyspnea scores and 6-minute walking distance significantly improved. Before surgery, end-expiratory volume of the chest wall tended to decrease at the onset of exercise and to increase thereafter. Conversely, after surgery, the increase of end-expiratory volume was significant from 1 mph to the maximum speed and it was totally due to the abdomen. The synchronism between RCp and AB also improved at 1 and 3 month after LVRS (p<0.001,p<0.05, respectively). In conclusion, in severe COPD patients LVRS determines a different action of the abdominal expiratory muscles and a better synchronization between the pulmonary rib cage and abdominal displacement. These improvements are associated to and possibly explain the increased exercise capacity and decreased dyspnea.

Our society increasingly relies on the transmission and reception of vast amounts of data using serial connections featuring ever-increasing bit rates. In imaging systems, for example, the frame rate achievable is often limited by the serial link between camera and host even when modern serial buses with the highest bit rates are used. This thesis documents a scalable embedded transceiver system with a bandwidth and interface standard that can be adapted to suit a particular application. This new approach for a real-time scalable embedded transceiver system is referred to as a Novel Reference Model (NRM), which connects two or more applications through a transceiver network in order to provide real-time data to a host system. Different transceiver interfaces for which the NRM model has been tested include: LVDS, GIGE, PMA-direct, Rapid-IO and XAUI, one support a specific range for transceiver speed that suites a special type for transceiver physical medium. The scalable serial link approach has been extended with loss-less data compression with the aim of further increasing dataflow at a given bit rate. Two lossless compression methods were implemented, based on Huffman coding and a novel method called Reduced Lossless Compression Method (RLCM). Both methods are integrated into the scalable transceivers providing a comprehensive solution for optimal data transmission over a variety of different interfaces. The NRM is implemented on a field programmable gate array (FPGA) using a system architecture that consists of three layers: application, transport and physical. A Terasic DE4 board was used as the main platform for implementing and testing the embedded system, while Quartus-II software and tools were used to design and debug the embedded hardware systems.

There are growing industrial demands for low-voltage supply and low-power consumption circuits and systems. This is especially true for very high integration level and very large scale integrated (VLSI) mixed-signal chips and system-on-a-chip. It is mainly due to the limited power dissipation within a small area and the costs related to the packaging and thermal management. In this research work, two low-voltage, low-power integrated circuits used for data communication systems are introduced. The first one is a high performance continuous-time linear phase filter with automatic frequency tuning. The filter can be used in hard disk driver systems and wired communication systems such as 1000Base-T transceivers. A pseudo-differential operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) based on transistors operating in triode region is used to achieve a large linear signal swing with low-voltage supplies. A common-mode (CM) control circuit that combines common-mode feedback (CMFB), common-mode feedforward (CMFF), and adaptive-bias has been proposed. With a 2.3V single supply, the filters total harmonic distortion is less than 44dB for a 2VPP differential input, which is due to the well controlled CM behavior. The ratio of the root mean square value of the ac signal to the power supply voltage is around 31%, which is much better than previous realizations. The second integrated circuit includes two LVDS drivers used for high-speed point-to-point links. By removing the stacked switches used in the conventional structures, both LVDS drivers can operate with ultra low-voltage supplies. Although the Double Current Sources (DCS) LVDS driver draws twice minimum static current as required by the signal swing, it is quite simple and achieves very high speed operation. The Switchable Current Sources (SCS) LVDS driver, by dynamically switching the current sources, draws minimum static current and reduces the power consumption by 60% compared to the previously reported LVDS drivers. Both LVDS drivers are compliant to the standards and operate at data rates up to gigabits-per-second.

Urban green space has been proven by the field of environmental psychology to have high value for human well-being. Green space is also important for biodiversity. However, the management of urban green space is commonly focused on present aesthetic values and not on the level of naturalness and its consequences for humans and biodiversity. This study compares the green space situation in relation to human well-being and biodiversity in Lviv, Ukraine and Stockholm, Sweden. By sampling urban green space gradients, from unnatural to natural, as well as collecting data about visiting people and bird taxa in those areas, comparisons between these two response variables and the level of naturalness were made. The results show correlations between the level of naturalness and the social structure of human visitors as well as to the bird taxa present. The results thus indicate that both human well-being and biodiversity is positively related to the level of naturalness of green space. Since more and more people live in urban areas decision-makers should leave sufficient amounts of green space, for the inhabitants’ well-being, both people and other species, in physical planning. Given generally low levels of green space in urban settings, areas for recreation and rehabilitation should be enhanced further.

This master thesis will cover the prestudy, hardware selection, design and implementation of a PCI Express bridge in the M.2 form factor. The thesis subject was proposed by WISI Norden who wished to extend the functionality of their hardware using an M.2 module. The bridge fits an M-Key M.2 slot and has the dimensions 80x22 mm. It is able to communicate at speeds up to 8 Gb/s over PCI Express and 200 Mbit/s on any of the 20 LVDS/CMOS pins. The prestudy determined that an FPGA should be used and a Xilinx Artix-7 device was chosen. A PCB was designed that hosts the FPGA as well as any power, debugging and other required systems. Associated proof-of-concept software was designed to verify that the bridge operated as expected. The software proves that the bridge works but requires improvement before the bridge can be used to translate sophisticated protocols. The bridge works, with minor hardware modifications, as expected. It fulfills all design requirements set in the master thesis and the FPGA firmware uses a well-established protocol, making further development easier.

La recherche en imagerie moléculaire repose beaucoup sur les performances en tomographie d'émission par positrons (TEP). Les avancées technologiques en électronique ont permis d'améliorer la qualité de l'image fournie par les scanners TEP et d'en augmenter le champ d'application. Le scanner LabPET II, en développement à l'Université de Sherbrooke, permettra d'atteindre des résolutions spatiales inégalées.La conception de ce scanner requiert une très grande densité de détecteurs de l'ordre de 39 000 sur un anneau de 15 cm de diamètre par 12 cm de longueur axiale. D'autre part, l'Université de Sherbrooke mène également des travaux en tomodensitométrie (TDM) par comptage de photons individuels. Ces travaux s'insèrent dans un programme de recherche menant à réduire par un facteur 1,5 à 10 la dose de rayon X par rapport aux doses actuelles en TDM. Un circuit intégré (ASIC) a été développé pour supporter les performances attendues en TEP et en TDM. Cependant, la très grande densité de canaux rend inadéquate la vérification externe, sur circuits imprimés (PCB), des fonctionnalités des 64 canaux d'acquisition du circuit intégré actuellement en conception. Ainsi, un générateur de charge électronique a été conçu et intégré dans l'ASIC afin de pouvoir vérifier directement sur le circuit intégré ( On-Chip ) le fonctionnement de la chaine d'acquisition. Il permettra aussi de faire les tests pour le calcul de la résolution d'énergie et de la résolution en temps intrinsèque. La communication des données avec l'ASIC se fait par une ligne différentielle afin de maximiser l'immunité des signaux contre le bruit et d'assurer la vitesse de communication voulue.La norme Low-Voltage Differential Signaling (LVDS) a été choisie pour ce type de communication. En effet, trois récepteurs LVDS, basse consommation, ont été conçus et intégrés dans l'ASIC afin de recevoir les commandes de fonctionnement de l'ASIC à partir d'une matrice de portes programmables Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) et de communiquer le signal d'horloge aux différents blocs. Pour augmenter la fiabilité du traitement effectué par l'électronique frontale, une mesure en température de l'ASIC est nécessaire. Un capteur de température basé sur la boucle à délais Delay-Locked Loop (DLL) a été conçu et intégré. En effet, la mesure de la température de l'ASIC permet d'intervenir en réalisant une compensation sur les mesures et en contrôlant le système de refroidissement en cas de sur-échauffement.

The selection of adhesively bonded composite materials to strengthen the existing concrete structures has increased due to fiber composites. The material we use in this here is Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP), is an extremely strong and light fibre reinforced polymer which contains carbon fiber as primary structural component. When these materials are used in long term applications there are effects due to loads and environmental effects like effects exposed to heat, moisture etc this leads to lose of strength and stiffness causes propagation of cracks and ultimately failure. Moisture-induced ageing is recognized as one of the main causes of the long-term failure of composites.
There is a reduce in stress transfer efficiency and leads to a decrease in the mechanical properties of the composite material.
In this study we analyse how the behaviour of a carbon fiber reinforced polymer changes at impact loads (3J) at different specimen locations (central impact and near edge impact) and with no impact conditions under different hygroscopic ageing conditions (3 days and 7 days ageing). 13 specimens were used for each ageing condition in this test. The mechanical characterisation of the material is carried out through the compression tests in ENEA laboratories located in Faenza. Numerical simulations are also done using simulation software by modifying properties of the material and compared with the standard one.

The master thesis is focused on how a local volatility surfaces can be extracted by optimization with respectto smoothness and price error. The pricing is based on utility based pricing, and developed to be set in arisk neutral pricing setting. The pricing is done in a discrete multinomial recombining tree, where the timeand price increments optionally can be equidistant. An interpolation algorithm is used if the option that shallbe priced is not matched in the tree discretization. Power utility functions are utilized, where the log-utilitypreference is especially studied, which coincides with the (Kelly) portfolio that systematically outperforms anyother portfolio. A fine resolution of the discretization is generally a property that is sought after, thus a seriesof derivations for the implementation are done to restrict the computational encumbrance and thus allow finer discretization. The thesis is mainly focused on the derivation of the method rather than finding optimal parameters thatgenerate the local volatility surfaces. The method has shown that smooth surfaces can be extracted, whichconsider market prices. However, due to lacking available interest and dividend data, the pricing error increasessymmetrically for longer option maturities. However, the method shows exponential convergence and robustnessto different initial (flat) volatilities for the optimization initiation. Given an optimal smooth local volatility surface, an arbitrary payoff function can then be used to price thecorresponding option, which could be path-dependent, such as barrier options. However, only vanilla optionswill be considered in this thesis. Finally, we find that the developed

Tato práce pojednává o jednotlivých parametrech obrazových snímačů podle kterých je vybírán vhodný obrazový snímač. Je vysvětlen proces výběru vhodného obrazového snímače a podrobněji popsány parametry vybraného snímače. Je naznačena problematika návrhu elektroniky a plošných spojů z hlediska požadavků vysokorychlostních obvodů a citlivých a specifických součástek jako je obrazový snímač. Je nastíněna konfigurace a programování obvodu Xilinx Zynq a nakonec je provedeno zjednodušené teoretické ověření funkčnosti navrženého modulu.

The phenomenon of Live Video Shopping (LVS) has gained increased attention in recent years. Sinceapproximately 2017, the Chinese market has brought LVSto the attention of the public. In terms of overall market share, LVS was projected to account for roughly 20% of the overalle-commerce volume in Chinauntil 2021. Despite that, within Europe LVS has not seen such rapid growth and seems to be still a neglected domain,both in practice and in academia.Most academic research on LVS has originated in China and took place in an Asian setting. From a European standpoint, these findings can onlyserve as a starting point for further researchdue to cultural differences. Sincemost extant research on the topic of LVS adopted a quantitative research design, we could clearly identify a lack of qualitative studies in a European context. Therefore, our study aims to fill this research gap by investigating European consumersperceived value of LVS and their motivations to engage in it. A qualitative research design is particularly suitable for the exploratory nature of ourresearch. For the collection of data, we conducted three synchronous online focus groups through purposive sampling of European participants. In addition to that, and as a triangulation for our data sources, Pål Burman, the CEO of the LVS provider Zellma, was interviewed. With this we were able to includedifferent perspectives on the topic. It also helped us to increase thevalidityofthemanagerial implications.Usingthematic analysis, we could identify themes that theparticipants associated with the concept of LVS. The findings suggest that the perceived value of LVS for European consumers is not indisputable. Based on the theoretical concept of perceived value,LVS has to solve the trade-off between give and get components. This means that the committed time for attending an LVS stream has to be compensated by certainbenefits, such asdiscounts, enhanced product information, exclusivity of content,or inspiration. By using the theoretical framework of Uses and Gratifications Theory (UGT), we were able to divide the motivations of European consumers to engage in LVS in three types of gratifications: hedonic, utilitarian, and social. As opposed to prior Asian research on the topic, social gratifications only played a minor role forEuropean consumers. Reasons for an interaction between the viewer and the broadcaster were primarily product-related and utilitarian by nature. Engagement for the sake of social motives could not be confirmed. Utilitarian gratifications desired byEuropean consumers were mainly connected to theobtainment of enhanced production information, leading to more informed purchase decisions. Hedonic motivations were for exampleentertainmentand inspiration. When connecting UGT to the TechnologyAcceptance Model (TAM), we have also been able to identify consumers' approachesto LVS as a new technology.Crucial here weretheperceived ease of use and perceived usefulnessof LVS.It was shown that consumers require LVS to be as easy or easier than normal e-commerce shopping is already.LVS would further be perceived as useful if it could provide the viewers with something uniquethat old technologies are not able to provide.Asa new digital phenomenon, itis expected to serve as a complement to physical and online stores. In fact, LVS might not only serve as a platform of sales, but also tocreate long-lasting relationships between a brand and its consumers with consumer engagementas a main desired outcome.

This master’s thesis deals with the design of six channel SD, HD and 3G HD-SDI digital video signal converter to 10-Gigabit Ethernet. In the introductory part, the conception of designed device is formulated. The theoretical background is provided in four chapters, where main standards and design rules related to digital electronics’ design are analyzed. The emphasis is placed on signal integrity at high-speed interconnects. There mostly practical examples, calculations and simulations are utilized. The design part contains thorough description of main subsystems’ design, implementation of FPGA, SDI input channels and 10-Gigabit Ethernet PHY. In the final part, the first tests and measurements of the build prototype are summarized. As an example, the comparison of signal integrity simulation to measurement is provided.
