Full textFrom the dawn of history in each of its periods, the literature has focused on the subject of marital and family relations. The threads above can be found in the works of writers and philosophers of all epochs. Antonio Rosmini - an Italian priest, intellectualist, theologian, philosopher, poet, chaplain - is part of the philosophical minds who deal with the subject of marriage and family in his works. One of the most important representatives of Italian Romanticism, the writer Alessandro Manzoni was to say that Rosmini “is one of the six or seven greatest minds of which mankind can be proud of”. The bibliography of the philosopher from Rovereto includes about 100 items, many of that are very extensive works, consisting of several volumes, several hundred pages long each. Rosmini, a faithful son of the Catholic Church, as one of the few, but certainly not the only one in history, has passed a peculiar way of suffering on the paths of his church career. Hugely appreciated by several popes, he was about to be named a cardinal, and then fell into disgrace, ending up with his two works on the infamous Index of Forbidden Books. Almost 160 years after the publication of one of the condemned works: On the Five Wounds of the Church (Delle cinque piaghe della santa Chiesa), he was beatified by the same Church, whose verdict was that his books contained harmful ideas and should not be read by the Catholics. This is an unprecedented event in the history of the Vatican. The notion of “person” is the key to understanding the Rosminian concept of society and community, in which important place takes marriage, understood by the Italian philosopher as “a union between two persons of the opposite sex, for good reason”. The Rosminian vision of a domestic community is based on the concept of a human person endowed with an inviolable dignity. According to Rosmini, it is a person who is the main goal of the formation of human communities and organizations: Church, state or communities of international reach. For this reason, the Rovereto philosopher is often called the father and precursor of the European personalism. The subject of this dissertation is: The concept of marriage and family in the writings of Antonio Rosmini (1797-1855). The basic research problem of the work is contained in question: what image of marriage and family emerges from the analysis of Antonio Rosmini's works? To what extent does the philosophical vision of Italian coincide, and to what extent does it differ, from the way these realities are presented in the literature works of the Italian Romantic period, especially those of two great representatives who are also Rosmini’s friends: Alessandro Manzoni and Niccolò Tommaseo? In an indirect way, the work is to be an answer for the question: to what extent does Rosmini's thought about the marriage and both parental and domestic community have a universal dimension and can be applied in contemporary reality? The sources used in the preparation of the work can be divided into three main groups. The first one are the writings of Antonio Rosmini, the second one is the work on the person and thoughts of the philosopher from Stresa. Also an important source for the work were studies on the theory and history of Italian literature. The work has been divided into 3 chapters, preceded by an introduction containing a discussion of methodological issues. All the work is summarized in the end. The first chapter is entirely devoted directly to Antonio Rosmini and his biography. The second part of the work, consisting of three paragraphs, sets and describes the topic of family in a historical and geopolitical context, with particular emphasis on the Italian State that was formed in the 19th century. This chapter also outlines the picture of marriage and family from the literature, that’s background are the works of two important representatives of Italian Romanticism, who are also closely associated with Rosmini: Alessandro Manzoni and Niccolò Tommaseo. In the case of the first writer, his masterpiece was discussed, i.e. I Promessi sposi (The bethrothed), while among the works of Dalmatian, references to the novel Fede e bellezza (Faith and Beauty) and several of his smaller works were cited. The purpose of the considerations in the second chapter is twofold. The specific goal is to find the common inspirations, motives and perspectives in Rosmini and his friends’ views on family and marriage, and the more general goal is to find the relationship between literature and philosophy. The last chapter of the work describes in detail the concept of marriage and family as a community according to Antonio Rosmini. The introduction to these analyzes is to recall and to describe the sources and inspiration for Rosminian thought dedicated to these realities. A compact structure of the work has been proposed in order to present the synthesis of the concept, developed in great detail by Rosmini, in the most possibly condensed way.

Full textThe aim of the dissertation is to recognize and examine dimensions of integration of migrants who contracted marriages with citizens of the host country as well as their subjective socioeconomic mobility with reference to the host country and the country of origin. The data collected in the course of the qualitative research suggests that the relationship between intermarriage and integration of migrants is complex and multifaceted. The study presented in the dissertation found that mixed unions do not have a uniform significance for the weakening of social boundaries as they do not necessarily serve to erode prejudices towards other groups associated with ethnic origin and nationality of potential partners. Intermarriage may facilitate integration in the following dimensions: (1) cultural integration, i.e. the process by which an individual acquires the knowledge, cultural standards and core competencies of the new culture and society; (2) structural integration, in which the acquisition of rights and the access to position and status in the core institutions of the host society (i.e. the economy and labour market, education and qualification systems, the housing system, welfare state institutions, and full political citizenship) are taken into consideration; and (3) interactive integration, which means the acceptance and inclusion of migrants in the primary relationships and social networks of the host society. Nevertheless, the link between mixed unions and the (4) identificational dimension of migrants’ integration referring to a feeling of belonging to a dominant society is disputable. The research showed the processual nature of building sense of belonging to the host society. It develops as a result of societal factors (establishing satisfying social relations), cultural (acquiring norms, values and patterns of behavior in daily encounters), economic (related to the standard of living of the family) and institutional ones (the guarantee of rights ensuring a sense of security and stability). The data collected in the course of the presented research suggests that gender is a factor significantly differentiating migration and adaptation strategies. However, both women and men who contracted marriages with citizens of the host country experience temporary occupational downward mobility and lowering of social status related to the mismatch between their qualifications and the local labor market conditionings, recognition of their education and initial poor knowledge of Polish. Occupational degradation and lowering of social status were especially visible in the case of marriage migrants, whose arrival in Poland and the decision to settle down were connected with entering into a marriage with a Polish citizen. Their adaptation strategies were associated with relatively fast-made reproductive decisions postponing entry into the Polish labor market and the socio-economic upward mobility through self-employment. On the other hand, in the case of economic migrants, marriage with a Polish citizen was associated with upward mobility through the legalization of stay and the acquisition of civil rights. Restrictive Polish legal regulations concerning the issue of foreigners' stay in Poland have often accelerated the decisions of mixed couples to legalize informal unions as well as made it difficult to maintain transnational ties that were limited primarily to family and social ties.
Sieradzka-Krupa, Aldona. "„Przykładne z wiernej i statecznej miłości małżeństwo” Elżbiety Drużbackiej. Komentowana edycja krytyczna i studium o utworze." Doctoral thesis, 2022. https://depotuw.ceon.pl/handle/item/4120.
Full textThe presented dissertation comprises of a critical edition of an XVIII-century romance "Przykładne z wiernej i statecznej miłości małżeństwo" by Elżbieta Drużbacka and a monographic section dedicated to analysis of this romance in terms of persuasive strategies and didactics. The critical edition is based on 4 manuscripts of this romance available in Poland and it was prepared in accordance with generally accepted principles of editing old Polish texts. Mentioned principles are discussed in detail at the end of the Introduction. Below the text, there are explanations to specific parts of the romance and there is a glossary of more difficult words. The edition is based on a copy signed by the author's hand. The introduction to the work also includes a section dedicated to the collation of the manuscripts. The edition is intended to enable readers with varying degrees of experience in dealing with early Polish literature (i.e., both non-academic enthusiasts and, for example, students) to become familiar not only with the content of the romance itself (by reconstructing the text and explaining more difficult words and phrases), but also with its wealth of references to the culture and literature. The main goal of the study preceding the work is a thorough analysis of the romance from the perspective of both its ideological content and poetics. The structure of the work is discussed in relation to the theoretical principles of the genre and the poetic solutions used by the author in her other works. Particular attention was also given to reconstructing the author's didactic intentions. Drużbacka created a piece of literature that was not limited to "adventurous adventures", but she treated the romance form as an opportunity to implement educational agenda. The characters' discussions, plot construction, and narrator's statements in the romance's depicted world touch on themes of personal freedom, the right to love, the boundaries between persuading and imposing one's will on them, desirable and undesirable values (from a social and individual perspective), and the "correct" way to experience love. As a result of the research, it became clear that Drużbacka shaped large parts of the text according to the rules of rhetoric. Not only did she use rhetorical devices in the content, but she also shaped the characters' utterances according to speech patterns and incorporated minor rhetorical genres into the romance structure. These observations suggest that the poetess was not as poorly educated as it is generally assumed. The analysis of detailed poetic solutions of the heterogeneous form of the piece is included in the monographic part of the work. As far as the sources of "Przykładne małżeństwo" are concerned, the analysis revealed inspiration from M. Bielski's "Kronika wszytkiego świata", B. Chmielowski's "Nowe Ateny", the philosophy of J.J. Rousseau, poems of the descriptio gentium type, anti-Turkish poems, rhetorical dialogues, hagiographic adventures and S. Twardowski's "Nadobna Paskwalina". This allows us to assume that Drużbacka's work is not an adaptation of a foreign work, but an authorial work, and that she has processed the sources according to her own invention. The work also includes a chapter summarizing the state of research on Drużbacka's romance works, in which references to her poetry are dating back to the XIX century are analyzed. In the same chapter the author proposes modifications to the existing typology of the poet's works. Drużbacka's romances have not been thoroughly researched so far, which makes her insufficiently present in contemporary research on old Polish romances. This work meets the suggestions of scholars specializing in history of romance genre in Poland, who signal the necessity of a separate study of Drużbacka's works as an exceptional author, and aims at creating, on the basis of an extensive comparative analysis, a contribution to further research on the author's oeuvre.

Full textSUMMARY Doctoral thesis is a comparative. It was carried out a detailed and systematic analysis of the legal solutions adopted for the statute of the conclusion, validity and effects of marriage in Poland and Venezuela. The thesis was also to identify and discuss the fundamental differences in this respect in both countries. In addition, it sought to explain the reasons underlying the selected solutions and, possibly, filing a proposal de lege ferenda. Considerations included in the thesis are based on the general idea that the purpose of the rules of private international law is to ensure justice in international relations by the selection of a suitable connector for a specific life situation. However, it should be noted that, although the target is one, the assumptions and ways to achieve this objective may be different. This thesis seems to be clearly reflected in defining the statute of the conclusion, validity and effects of marriage in private international law of different States, including Poland and Venezuela. The thesis is divided into an introduction, conclusion and five sections. In each of the chapters discussed other issue from the scope of the statute of the conclusion, validity and effects of marriage. In all sections, except the first chapter, explores the general principle of jurisdiction for the matter. Also discusses the provisions of the bilateral and multilateral international agreements as exceptions to the application of the general rule. Furthermore, see considerations for the scope of the law applicable to the analyzed issues. Each chapter was finalized with proposals. In the introduction referred to the subject matter and purpose of the thesis, shows the thesis research, justifies the choice of subject and structure of work, explains the title of the thesis, and discusses the research methods used. Assessment was also made of Polish and Venezuelan literature and judicial decisions, relating to the statute of the conclusion, validity and effects of marriage. Chapter one is an introduction to the consideration of the statute of the conclusion, validity and effects of marriage in Polish and Venezuelan law. This chapter shows synthetically the evolution of these statutes and sources of law for these institutions. Chapter two opens a crucial part of the work and is dedicated to the issues of the law applicable to the material conditions of the marriage. It is targeted mainly to show differences in this respect in the law of both States. In the third chapter were compared the existing regulations in terms of the statute of formal conditions of the marriage in both countries. In addition, discusses the issue of consular and diplomatic marriages. The institution of consular and diplomatic marriage is, in fact, a form of marriage outside the native country. In the fourth chapter describes the issue of statute of annulment and existence or non-existence of the marriage. The fifth chapter is devoted to the effects of the marriage, that is, the issues of statute of property and personal relations between the spouses. At the same time, closes on a crucial, substantive part of the work. In the conclusion summarizes all the work and provide the most significant conclusions resulting from the analysis of the conclusion, validity and effects of marriage in Polish and Venezuelan private international law.

Full textCelem rozważań jest szczegółowa analiza relacji małżeńskich unormowanych w dziale II Kodeksu Rodzinnego i Opiekuńczego zatytułowanym „Prawa i obowiązki małżonków” (art. 23-30 KRO).
The subject of deliberation is a detailed analysis of marital relations normalized in chapter II of the Family and Guardianship Code entitled: ‘Rights and obligations of spouses’ (art. 23-30 KRO). A set of provisions, regulating the issue under consideration, apart from stating the essence and meaning of marriage in interrelationships between spouses, also determines the roles of spouses in the family they belong to. They are defined in the doctrine as ‘basic’ rights and obligations, because they are strictly connected with the performance of elementary functions of every marriage, or in a broader sense, of the family function. These are still rights and obligations imposed directly by the legislator and it is not possible for the married parties (spouses) to influence their content (apart from few exceptions). Furthermore, the type of matrimonial regime, in which the spouses function, also do not influence these rights and obligations. The serious considerations of the particular marital relationships were made by referring to the rights and obligations of spouses presented in literature, which distinguishes rights and obligations of spouses that have a mutual character as well as rights and obligations towards a family. The first of the aforementioned category includes: marital cohabitation, marital fidelity, mutual help, joint representation of spouses as well as the choice of a surname. The second category consists of: cooperating for the sake of a family, deciding together about important family matters, contributing to the fulfillment of family needs, making use of the property and domestic appliances (in order to fulfill family needs) as well as being jointly responsible for financial commitments taken in order to fulfill fundamental family needs.

Full textIn a globalizing 21st-century world, the number of “world families” is increasing; it is a sign of the times. Marriages concluded with foreigners are an indicator of a society’s openness towards other countries, since they manifest the utmost social closeness according to the Bogardus scale. Recently the number of binational marriages in Poland has risen significantly, but it still remains very low ranging from 1.5% to 2.1% of all Polish married couples. Also the bibliography of binational relationships with a Polish partner is quite scarce, not to mention that there has not been done research on Polish- American couples yet, though out of 20 million of Poles living abroad, half of them live in the United States of America. The following dissertation is the attempt to supplement the lack and take a look at multicultural worlds of Polish-American marriages. Functioning in a binational family requires exceptional communicative skills to reconcile frequently different value systems, and the customs and expectations of own cultures. Though American and Polish culture show numerous similarities, a shared life of a person socialized in the USA and in Poland may bring unexpected misunderstandings and conflicts. This dissertation supervised by prof. dr hab. Renata Siemieńska-Żochowska presents the results of my research on Polish-American couples done in years 2012-2015 as part of doctoral studies carried at the Warsaw University, the Institute for Social Studies named after prof. Robert Zajonc. The research takes sociological and anthropological micro scale scope focused rather on a relation within a dyad than analyzes processes of acculturation and integration of migrants with a new country from the perspective of migration theories. The aim of the research was to establish whether cultural differences noticed by the interviewed couples have been an obstacle in their everyday life or have become an added value. Besides, strategies applied in conflict situations and adaptation techniques used in such cases have been analyzed as well as gradual changes of their cultural identity.

Full textTematem pracy doktorskiej jest wizja szczęśliwego małżeństwa (i intymnego związku miłosnego) w dyskursie poradnikowym w Stanach Zjednoczonych i w Polsce w drugiej połowie XX wieku. W drugim rozdziale analizie poddane zostają cztery poradniki psychologiczne dla małżeństw (autorstwa A. Becka, J. Graya, J. Gottmana i R. Sternberga), wpierw jednak następuje szkic historyczny dotyczący rozwoju literatury samopomocowej (self-help literature) w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Opisane zostają m.in. takie zjawiska jak filozofia "pracy nad sobą " Benjamina Franklina, zaczerpnięta z powieści Horatio Algera narracja "od pucybuta do milionera", Ruch Nowej Myśli (tu wspomniane zostają m.in. poradniki N.V.
"Pasja i intuicja. Portrety kobiet w publicystyce Marii Grossek-Koryckiej." Doctoral thesis, 2018. https://depotuw.ceon.pl/handle/item/2669.
Full textBetween 1923 and 1926 Maria Grossek-Korycka wrote a series of columns for the “Bluszcz” weekly magazine, inspired by Gina Lombroso’s “Anima della donna” (The Soul of Woman), the book first published in 1920 and translated into most of the European languages. Though in Poland only some fragments of the Lombroso’s book were published, they induced Grossek-Korycka to reflect on the condition of Polish women. In the first part of my thesis I take a closer look at the almost forgotten life and legend of Maria Grossek-Korycka. Nowadays she is mostly recognised and remembered as a poet and an author of some esseys on philosophy and ethics, not as a writer, a journalist or a translator. In the process of analysing archives and journals I discovered new biographical facts and managed to reconstruct the life story of Grossek-Korycka. In the second part of the thesis I focus on the reception and perception of the series of the columns by readers, contemporary and modern critics and scholars in literature. The interwar ideas about female activity in literature gain importance in this context. The collected materials testify that though the journal series was liked and appreciated by the female readers of the weekly, very few critics of interwar literature found it valuable and important. Also, modern critics usually barely mention Świat kobiecy while describing the works of Maria Grossek-Korycka. The main part of the thesis is attempted at interpretation of the columns. It contains references to the works of literature, journalism and literary criticism, as well as historical and cultural research, all related to the topic of the series. I focused on the main topics and themes of the feminine columns. I also added the translation of some fragments of the second edition of Gina Lombroso’s book published in Bologne in 1921. The first part of the main analysis revolves around the historical theory of marriage and its status in the interwar period. Thoroughly analysing Grossek-Korycka’s theories published in “Bluszcz”, I reconstructed her idea of partnership in marriage, which was obviously inspired by Lombardo’s views on the matter. The important part of this reflection is how the psychological differences between men and women determine their predispositions, behaviour and choices they make, and how it influences marriage as such. 2 According to Grossek-Korycka, the ralationship between a man and a woman is not the only one that matters. Equally important is a woman-woman relationship, therefore, in the next part of my thesis, competition among women, emotional lonelines and suffering in theoretically safe and friendly environment are considered and described. The columnist appealed to the society of women for solidarity and building a new world based on the values they held. Eventually, the last part of the thesis focuses on professional activity of women, but only in the context of their domestic duties. Such an approach originates from the columnist’s belief that home and family is the first and the most important habitat for women. However, she suggested some ways of reconciling the two fields of women’s activities, e.g. she prioritized choosing the right profession. The reading of the series of columns by Maria Grossek-Korycka proves that her voice and her vision of female (and male) soul are important for the discussion about the women’s emancipation and changes in the traditional social order. The series is also an important contribution to the history of Polish literature and journalism.

Full textThe main subject of the research presented in the dissertation are the efforts of Jewish Poles to find themselves a place and to re-root in the post-Holocaust world. Activities they have taken were described as ’practices’ in the sense given to this word by the French sociologist Pierre’a Bourdieu – that directed at their social dimension. The three selected assimilation practices – the ones focused on the operation of blurring the differences distinguishing the member of minority group from majority population – were analyzed here, these were: conversions from Judaism to Catholic faith, changes of names and/or surnames (from ‘foreign’ – ‘Jewish’, no matter what it meant – to the ‘familiar’ ones) and entering into mixed marriages with representatives of the majority group. In the analyzed period – as the author tried to prove – all of them could be treated by Jewish Poles as a ‘tool’ of striking up roots. There were analyzed here only the efforts of those Holocaust survivors who in the second half of the 1940s, be it only temporarily, settled on Polish territory in its post-war borders. The research covered period between 1944–1945 and the turn of 1949–1950. Although it was not homogenous, the Jewish community in Poland at that politically turbulent time – in contrast to the following years – enjoyed a relatively high autonomy. In the first two chapters of the thesis there were presented – briefly out of necessity, though as broadly as possible – issues which, in the author’s opinion constituted the basic context of activities undertaken by Jewish Poles in 1944–1950. These were: the Holocaust experience described by means of indicating its most important components, its dimensions and factors that differentiated access to it as well as the most important aspects of the Jewish Poles’ situation in the second half of the 1940s and their broadly understood condition. The research part of the text is presented entirely in the third chapter. In its introduction, the concept of assimilation was discussed, the one that then was used in further sections. The results of research on survivors’ conversion to Catholicism, changes of surnames and/or names they made and entering into marriages with people from outside ethnic group, were reported in the next three subsections, in all of them in the same order – beginning with providing the reader the basic statistics, to analyzing the social and family genealogy of the subjects, the factors of making changes (of religion/ names/ surnames) and/ or entering into mixed relationships, finally – if possible – their motivation. Special attention was focused on considering the adaptive potential of these acts. Each subsection ends with separate recapitulation and conclusion. The practices have been analyzed taking into account the broad social background in which they were undertaken, in particular the processes which have taken place in the studied population, among them most of all the acculturation – inter alia linguistic and the secularization, with which the described activities of survivors were strongly related. The closing chapter of the dissertation presents – together with the conclusions from the research – a model approach to the problem of the striking up roots of Holocaust survivors in post–war Poland, which is based on an analysis of adaptation practices discussed in the thesis. The dissertation was based on a varied and broad collection of source materials, among them the materials created and/or stored by Jewish social and political organizations, files of the Polish state documents, documents of the Catholic Church deposited in four curial archives (Lodz, Cracow, Katowice and Warsaw), press announcements about legalized changes of names and/or surnames, survivors’ testimonies but also personal data and census data concerning Jewish Poles gathered by the Central Committee of Jews in Poland and its agenda.
