Precision machinery has come a long way over the years. Factories that once relied on manpower now use machines, and this development has brought with it innumerable benefits including improvements to accuracy, repeatability, productivity and efficiency. Naturally, though, machines are imperfect in that precision of a batch of machines vary slightly. On top of that, machines experience wear and tear or even break-downs. These unpredictable events can be costly to manufacturers. This is why research to better understand factors that affect a machine's precision is important. This knowledge can

The application of traditional three-axis milling machine center is very popular and the related application technology is also much matured resulting in mechanical components to be machined with good quality. Machine tool has therefore become an inevitable facility in precision manufacturing. Furthermore, the pursuit of higher precision machining has thus demanding five-axis machine tool to be adopted owing to its flexibility and capability in machining more precise mechanical components in shorter time. However, one of the key factors for the popularity in smooth introduction of five-axis ma

On-machine error compensation (OMEC) is efficient at improving machining accuracy without increasing extra manufacturing cost, and involves the on-machine measurement (OMM) of machining accuracy and modification of program code based on the measurement results. As an excellent OMM technique, chromatic confocal sensing allows for the rapid development of accurate and reliable error compensation technique. The present study integrated a non-contact chromatic confocal probe into an ultra-precision machine for OMM and OMEC of machined components. First, the configuration and effectiveness of the O

Prognostic-based maintenance analyses past events and predicts the future state of a machine based on the understanding of the degradation function of the machine’s components. Diagnostics-based maintenance tests equipment according to a fixed routine for a machine’s proper functioning and reliability. Current Surface-mount Technology (SMT) machines are not equipped with self-prognostic and diagnostic functions. In this paper, a system prognostic and diagnostic method is proposed, implemented in software, for estimating a machine’s health condition and faulty components of a SMT component plac

A bending machine is a machine needed to produce a container for a transport truck. In producing container tubs, PT. XYZ manufactures the necessary components in the overall formation of the body including the body frame chassis components made of steel plates. In producing truck chassis frames, it can be seen that production targets from making truck chassis frame components are not achieved in production with bending machines. This is because there is damage to components such as hydraulics, PLC, encoder and so on on the main machine, namely the bending machine. The purpose of this study is
