Abstract:
In the present research study, a comprehensive spur gear lubrication analysis has been carried out to understand the gear contact behaviour under lubrication conditions. The modelling works have been extended to consider the effects of thermal mechanical, non-Newtonian fluid, surface roughness, transient squeeze and dynamic load conditions. First, the elastohydrodynamic lubrication theory is studied and relevant numerical approaches are introduced. The reduced Reynolds equation technique is applied to deal with any potential "asperity contacts" or any other ultra-thin film situations. Those si

Recent advance in the microfluidics including its fabrication technologies has led to many novel applications in micro-scale flows. Among them is the continuous-flow micromixer that utilizes the advantages associated with turbulent flows for rapid mixing, achieving the detection of fast kinetic reaction as short as tens of microseconds. However, for developing a high performance continuous-flow micromixer there are certain fundamental issues need to be solved. One of them is an universal simulation approach capable of calculating the flow field across entire passage for entire regime from very

Abstract:
The thesis describes the development of a computer-aided design and computer-aided draughting package of industrial gearboxes for transmitting power between shafts having parallel major axes. The package mainly consists of the following functions: (a) Determination of gear tooth numbers from the properties of continued and conjugate fractions (b) Generation of gear teeth by a rack-type cutter (c) Calculation of gear tooth profile and production of gear tooth grid for finite element stress analysis (d) Detailed strength analysis and design of a spur or helical, external or internal, standard or

Abstract:
This research aimed to establish the requirements for effective fluid flow in grinding and to improve the efficiency of the fluid delivery system (fluid delivery optimization). Highly efficient fluid delivery will lower grinding temperatures, reduce the risk of thermal damage and reduce wheel wear. The thesis describes the work completed in the investigation of the complex fluid flow that occurs in the region close to the grinding contact zone between the wheel and workpiece and the boundary layer phenomena around the periphery of the rotating grinding wheel. This thesis presents a state-of-the-art multi-sensor, 3D surface shape measurement system that is based upon fringe projection/analysis and which operates at speeds approaching real-time. The research programme was carried out as part of MEGURATH (www.megurath.org), a collaborative research project with the aim of improving the treatment of cancer by radiotherapy. The aim of this research programme was to develop a real-time, multi-sensor 3D surface shape measurement system that is based on fringe analysis, which provides the flexibility to choose from amongst several different fringe profilom
