This thesis will explore and discuss the religion and rituals (ancestral cult) of Afro-Caribbean societies, people of African and indigenous heritage. This thesis will also seek to answer the question of extent to which Americans have become tolerant of other people's culture and what influence, if any, have transmitted from the Afro-Caribbean people to other North American societies. The religion and rituals of four Afro-Caribbean groups will be discussed in this study.

Abstract:
Macula is a two-movement piece of music written for a mixed ensemble often instruments. The piece explores an aspect of visual perception in which an object seemingly becomes both larger and more detailed as it draws closer. This becomes a metaphor for the structure of the piece, where materials are gradually transformed and re-contextualized to suggest the notion of continually zooming in. The accompanying analytical paper gives a general overview of the procedures and techniques used to organize and compose the piece.

The human macula is essential for high acuity vision but its biochemical and cellular properties are poorly understood. A disease that specifically affects the macula, Macular Telangiectasia (MacTel) type2 was investigated by studying postmortem tissue from a single donor. This revealed Müller cell loss specifically in the macula, which might be responsible for the vascular changes and photoreceptor degeneration typical of this disease. Metode og materiale: Det er benyttet en empirisk, kvantitativ metode for å få svar på problemstillingene. Designet baserer seg på survey ved hjelp av spørreskjema for selvutfylling. 60 personer (35 kvinner og 25 menn) med aldersspredning fra 62 - 93 år deltok i undersøkelsen. Resultater og konklusjon

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in developed countries. The Y402H polymorphism in complement factor H (CFH) is a common and important risk factor, where CFH is an inhibitor of the alternative complement pathway. Age-related maculopathy (ARM) is a leading cause of permanent vision loss in elderly people. ARM therefore constitutes an important public health problem which will increase in magnitude as the number of aged people in the general population becomes greater. Mes travaux de thèse avaient pour objectif de déterminer le rôle du récepteur CD36 dans l’homéostasie rétinienne et son implication potentielle dans la genèse de la DMLA. J’ai utilisé pour cela deux modèles animaux présentant une déficience pour le récepteur CD36 : les souris CD36-/- d’une part et les rats SHR (spontaneous hypertensive rats) d’autre part. Nous avons montré la production de facteurs proangiogéniques COX-2 et VEGF de façon CD36-dépendante par les cellules de l’EPR en conditions physiologiques.
