Abstract:
This article aims to illustrate how al-Rāzī forges his doctrine on the soul in Mafātīḥ al-ghayb. It investigates al-Rāzī’s analysis of the soul's nature, its generation, and its attachment to the body by examining his exegesis of key Qur'anic verses. It analyses the ways that al-Rāzī interprets key cosmological terms from the Qur'an (including ‘soul’, ‘vital spirit’, ‘God's command’, and ‘power’), and provides examples of his practical application of taʾwīl to key Qur'anic verses. The article argues that al-Rāzī moulds ideas from ancient Greek Stoicism and Muʿtazilī theology into Mafātīḥ al-ghayb. By doing so, it illustrates that the hermeneutical device of taʾwīl was instrumental to the process through which al-Rāzī assimilated eclectic ideas from non-canonical sources into the worldview of Sunnism.

Abstract:
This article discusses educational science based on Mafatihul Tafsir perspective, Al Razi work. The book of Mafātiḥ al-Ghayb contains the theory about Islamic science and has its relevance to the modern science. In the view of Al-Rāzī, modern science and Islamic science has a strong correlation, and even both were born on the same outlook of oneness. Islamic history has proven that the Qur'an was separated from science and Muslim turned to backward. Great scholars of Islam during al-Rāzī agreed that all science disciplines either existing or none, old or new, which is controlled by the Muslims or not, everything should lead to the unity of Allah. If not, the science of human contrary to the common sense, and contrary to the Qur'an or Hadith where it must be rejected its truth.

Mourad, Suleiman A. "The Survival of the Muʿtazila Tradition of Qur'anic Exegesis in Shīʿī and Sunnī tafāsīr". Journal of Qur'anic Studies 12, № 1-2 (2010): 83–108. http://dx.doi.org/10.3366/jqs.2010.0106.

Abstract:
Like all other Islamic sects and movements, the Muʿtazilīs were very attentive to the study of the Qur'an and many among their ranks authored books on Qur'anic exegesis. Unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of tafāsīr compiled by Muʿtazilīs are not extant and, for a long time, the vast majority of the scholarly community has been under the impression that the only surviving Muʿtazilī tafsīr was al-Zamakhsharī’s Kashshāf. However, two other major Muʿtazilī tafāsīr have come to light, and now we can begin to determine the contribution of the Muʿtazilī exegetical tradition to the field of tafsīr. This study will argue that the demise of the Muʿtazila does not necessarily mean that their tradition of Qur'anic exegesis died out; nor for that matter their theology and religious thought. To this end, it will examine two cases that demonstrate that the Muʿtazilī tradition of Qur'anic exegesis was, at least to some extent, absorbed into the mainstream exegetical traditions of Twelver Shīʿism and Sunnism. The first case details the influence of al-Jishumī’s Tahdhīb on Majmaʿ al-bayān by the prominent Twelver Shīʿī exegete al-Ṭabrisī. The second shows the reliance of the paramount Sunnī theologian and philosopher Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī in his Mafātīḥ al-ghayb on al-Kashshāf by al-Zamakhsharī.

Abstract:
In the Islamic doctrine, Allah is the creator, while the universe including human beings is the creatures. The universe glorifies Allah. Glorification is the proof of the universe’s obedience to Allah. The study aims to shed light on how the universe performs such a glorification. This article examines the concept of tasbīḥ al-‘ālam proposed by Muḥammad bin al-Ḥusayn Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī (544 H/1149 AD – 606 H/1209 AD), a rationalist, in his book Tafsīr al-Kabīr aw Mafātiḥ al-Ghayb and compares it with that of Muhyiddin Ibn ‘Arabī ( 560 H/ 1149 AD), a mystical interpreter, in his book Tafsīr al-Qur’ān al-Karīm. This study shows that there are distinct processes and ways of how the universe commends to God. According to Ibn Arabī, the commendation by the universe is the process of getting annihilation and the unifiction of existence (waḥdah al-wujūd); while al-Rāzī clarifies that the process itself is in metaphoric meaning (majāzi) contingent upon the condition of each part of the universe.

Abstract:
This article explores the interpretation of the Qurān presented by Mullā Sadrā (d. 1050AH/1640), a mystic philosopher of Ithnācasharī Shīca Islam in Iran. First, in his Keys to the Unknown (Mafātīh al-ghayb), we know the general mechanism of how reading the Qur'ān realizes spiritual perfection. Mullā Sadrā considers the Qurān as the source of spiritual wisdom with a multi-layered structure of meaning. Through concentration on Qur'ānic texts, a reader's soul will be open to a deeper layer of meaning with an awareness of a higher level of spiritual perfection. As a concrete example, we examine his commentary on the Chapter of Earthquake (Sūrat al-Zalzalah), which depicts the catastrophic events on the Last Day. In the literal meaning, or the surface layer of meaning, he intuits as a hidden deeper meaning the incessant re-creation and dynamic flux of existence towards perfection, which also explains different transformations of human beings in the hereafter. We find here another spirituality of Islam, which differs from that of the Islam built on the surface meanings of the Qur'ān.

Abstract:
Qur’anic exegesis has existed since the life of the Prophet Muhammad. It is divided into two forms, i.e. bi alma’thūr and bi al-ra’y. Tafsir Falsafi is part of tafsir bil ra’y, which is built upon reasoning when interpreting the Qur’an. Some scholars reject this interpretation, but some accept it. Tafsir Falsafi is to interpret the Qur’anby using philosophical approaches. Among the scholars are al-Farābī, Ibn Sīnā, Ikhwān al-Ṣafā, and Fakhruddīn al-Rāzī. This paper will study Fakhruddīn al-Rāzī, one of the most leading scholars in the subject, by focusing on his great work the Mafātīḥ al-Ghayb. This paper will examine a method of interpretation of al-Rāzī, which is taḥlīlī.Keywords: Tafsir Falsafi, Mafātīḥ al-Ghayb, Fakhruddīn al-Rāzī

Abstract:
Many studies have been done of Fakhr al-Dinal-Razi and his system of thought, taking into account his contributions from theology, philosophy, and exegesis. However, works specifically devoted to his exegetical thought have been few. In fact, none of these has dealt with al-Razi's exegetical methodology in the light of his basic assumptions regarding the Qur'an. In view of this fact, the present thesis aims at elucidating Fakhr al-Din al-Razi's methodology in interpreting the Qur'an in his magnum opus, known by the title al-Tafsir al-Kabir or Mafatih&dotbelow; al-Ghayb. In order to achieve this purpose, we will focus on his interpretation of the third chapter of the Qur'an, printed in volumes 7, 8, and 9 of the standard edition of his work.<br>In overall terms, al-Razi contributed greatly to the dissemination of a rational approach to the study of the Qur'an. Yet, he could not avoid the debate over theological issues, which were common in his time. In many parts of his al-Tafsir al-Kabir, therefore, he defends Ash'arite thought against the views of Mu'tazilites, Z&dotbelow;ahirites, and the H&dotbelow;ashwiyyah, among others.
