The hole doped transition metal oxides show remarkable properties that are related to the influence of charge and spin correlations. In this thesis charge correlations in hole doped manganite and nickelate systems are smdied using soft (˂2 keV), normal (10 keV) and high energy x-ray scattering (100 keV).The charge and J aim-Teller (JT) order is studied in the bi-layer manganite La(_2)-(_2r) Sr(_1)+(_2x)Mn(_2)O(_7) for x = 0.5, 0.55 and 0.60 using high energy x-ray scattering. There are seven base units in the International System of Units; the metre, kilogram, second, kelvin, ampere, mole and candela. Quantum metrology aims to redefine these quantities in terms of fundamental constants of nature such as the Planck, A vogadro and Boltzmann constants. In the electrical domain, the quantum Hall effect and Josephson effect provide quantum standards for resistance and voltage, respectively. Combining them through Ampere's law yields an indirect quantum standard for current. However, a quantum metrological redefinition of the ampere requires a stand-alone source of curre

Neutron and x-ray diffraction has been used to study charge, orbital and magnetic ordering in some transition metal oxides. The long standing controversy regarding the nature of the ground state (Verwey structure) of the canonical charge ordered material magnetite (Fe3O4) has been resolved by x-ray single crystal diffraction studies on an almost single domain sample at 90 K. The Verwey structure is confirmed to have Cc symmetry with 56 unique sites in the asymmetric unit. Charge ordering is shown to be a useful first approximation to describe the nature of the ground state, and the conjecture

Firstly, we illustrate that Bloch oscillations suppress electron transport and the resulting charge domains form self-sustained current oscillations. This occurs only when the Bloch and cyclotron frequencies are commensurate allowing the electrons to demonstrate chaotic unbounded trajectories, leading to an

Electron-lattice interactions are often considered not to play a major role in material's properties as they are assumed to be small, the second-order effects. However, this study shows the importance of taking these effects into account in the simulations. My results demonstrate the impact of the electron-lattice interaction on the physics of the material and our understanding from it. One way to study these effects is to add them as perturbations to the unperturbed Hamiltonians in numerical simulations.
