Abstract:
An approach to the analysis and interpretation of the spectra of photoinduced circular dichroism (PICD) of semiconductor nanocrystals, in particular quantum dots, based on their comparison with the spectra of magnetic circular dichroism (MCD), is proposed. It was shown that the MCD and PICD spectra have similar features. The values of parameters similar to the known parameters A and B of the MCD spectra characterizing the splitting and mixing of states were determined from the PICD spectra.

Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) has been detected in YBa2Cu3O7–x films in the visible spectral range from 1.5 to 4.5 V (275–825 nm). The MCD spectrum correlates with the absorption spectrum, and its magnitude attains values up to (1–5)·10−4 T−1 at the extremal points. Superconducting and nonsuperconducting samples display different kinds of dispersion and temperature dependences of MCD. For all the investigated samples, the magnetic field dependence of MCD has the form aH+b right up to 7 T, where the coefficient a depends on the temperature and wavelength at which observations were made, whi

Especially, an extremely large MCD signal appeared with the 8D resonant excitation for gadolinium. Comparison between the MCD for XES and total photoelectron yield (TEY) shows that the XES are very insensitive to the surface state. Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) of core-level absorption spectra (XAS) in the soft X-ray region has been measured for the ferromagnetic Heusler alloys Co 2 TiSn , Co 2 ZrSn , and Co 2 NbSn . The Co 2p → 3d XAS–MCD spectra show an obvious contribution of the orbital angular momentum component to the magnetic moment in these alloys. The ratio between the orbital and the spin magnetic moments derived from the MCD spectra varies by more than a factor of 2 within these alloys. The mechanism of this variation is discussed in comparison with the band structure calculation.

When fluorescing crystals of LiF and NaF containing hexavalent uranium and oxygen are X-irradiated the fluorescence is quenched and new absorption centres are created. There are strong absorption lines created at 5628 nm in LiF: U, 0 and at 5806 nm in N aF: U, O. These and other absorption lines have been studied by magnetic circular dichroism (MCD). A temperature independent MCD was observed, indicating an upper state degeneracy. A Fano antiresonance is observed in the absorption spectrum. No splitting was observed for the lines under uniaxial stress at 10 K. A model for these new centres i

The selenium-substituted inactive form of mitochondrial aconitase contains one [3Fe-4Se]1+/0 cluster [Surerus, Kennedy, Beinert and Münck (1989) Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 87, 9846-9850]. This cluster was studied in both oxidized and reduced states by magnetic CD (MCD) and EPR spectroscopy. In the MCD spectra, intensity and transition wavelength shifts are observed when compared with the spectra of the native [3Fe-4S]1+/0 cluster. These changes are used to differentiate between the charge-transfer transitions originating from inorganic and cysteinyl sulphur. Using also the data from the EPR

Magnetic materials containing transition metals such as Fe, Co, and Ni have attracted considerable interest, in particular for their unique properties, which allow them to be applied to devices for magnetic control of optical communications and magneto-optical data storage. Magnetic control of catalysis and electrocatalysis is also a potential application of magnetic materials. Apparent catalytic activity can be controlled via a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) effect, which affect mass transport rate in the vicinity of the magnetic material.[1] In addition, enantioselectivity can be given to the sys

The ESR spectra of these glasses exhibit two features with g = 4.3 due to the diluted Fe3+ ions and 2.0 associated both with Fe3+ ions and with nanoparticles. The integrated spectra intensit

Abstract Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectroscopy for manganite films of various compositions and morphologies has been studied in the range of 1.2–3.7 eV. The primary focus was on the temperature behavior of the MCD spectra, as well as the magnetization and resistivity of the films. The data obtained were analyzed in comparison with magneto-optical spectroscopy of the Kerr rotation (KR) on both single crystal and thin film of manganites. It has been established that the MCD response at 2.3 eV is typical for manganites transitioning into a conducting state. Consequently, it reflects a ch

The J-aggregation induces a large red-shift in the B (Soret) and Q absorption bands, while the phosphorescence peaks of H 4 TPPS 4 and its J-aggregates are almost entirely similar. The large red-shift of the B-band is quantitatively explained by the exciton interactions. Thus, the exciton interactions in the J-aggregates are proposed as a useful approach to decrease the energy split
