This work is concerned with some geometrical properties of (complex) Fermi curves of electric and magnetic periodic fields. These are analytic curves in C² that arise from the study of the eigenvalue problem for periodic Schroedinger operators. More specifically, we characterize a certain class of these curves in the region of C² where at least one of the coordinates has "large" imaginary part. This thesis deals with the analysis of magnetic losses in electrical machines and the possibilities of their measurement. Magnetically soft and hard materials are very prone to changing magnetic properties. They can be changed simply by changing the temperature of the material or different stresses induced in the material, resulting in different results. We have prepared rapid quenched thin ribbons (thickness ~12 µm) by melt spinning, and glassy rods of diameter ~1mm by Cu-mold casting based on compositions (Fe0.78B0.13Si0.9)100-xNbx (x=0, 4, 8, 12), and studied their different physical properties. The melt-spun ribbons are found to be X-ray amorphous, whereas some nano-crystallinity is observed in the case of rods.
