Abstract:
Magnetooptical spectroscopy is an effective method for studying the magnetic microstructure of homogeneous and heterogeneous magnets. This review is devoted to analysis of numerous factors affecting the intensity and spectral dependence of a magnetooptical signal of the equatorial Kerr effect in nanocomposites “ferromagnetic metal–dielectric” in the visible and near infrared spectral regions. Examples of the influence of the metal concentration, nanoparticle size and shape, the substrate, the material of the dielectric, the amorphization of grains, the deposition method, and other factors on t

AbstractZnO films obtained by high-frequency magnetron sputtering and doped with a Fe^57 metallic 3 d impurity by the diffusion method are studied. The type of local environment of Fe^57 impurity atoms on varying the deposition parameters of ZnO films is determined by Mössbauer spectroscopy. It is established that the ground state of Fe^57 impurity atoms corresponds to metallic iron in the magnetically ordered state and there is a small fraction of Fe^57 atoms with a local environment corresponding to the complex oxide Fe_3O_4, having the magnetically ordered state; there is also a fraction of

We review recent advances in optical and magnetooptical (MO) scatterometry applied to periodically ordered nanostructures such as periodically patterned lines, wires, dots, or holes. The techniques are based on spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE), either in the basic or generalized modes, Mueller matrix polarimetry, and MO spectroscopy mainly based on MO Kerr effect measurements. We briefly present experimental setups, commonly used theoretical approaches, and experimental results obtained by SE and MO spectroscopic analyses of various samples. The reviewed analyses are mainly related to monitorin

The experiments required development of a high-resolution simultaneous magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) and absorption spectrometer, MOD4. Design, construction and commission of MOD4 comprised a significant portion of this project, and its description constitutes a substantial part of the 'Experimental' chapter of the thesis. This thesis is primarily concerned with far infrared effects in semiconductor heterostructures. These properties have been studied as a function of magnetic fields at low temperature using various optical detection techniques. Cyclotron resonance has been studied in CdTe quantum wells. The results are compared with calculations using the memory function approach, which demonstrate that there is a large reduction in the resonant coupling due to level occupancy effects. Semimetallic GaSb/InAs superlattices have been studied by cyclotron resonance experiments. In samples with low InAs/GaSb ratios

Nonlinear spectroscopy of cold atoms has recently been reported for a sample of cesium atoms confined in a magnetooptical trap.1,2 In particular, we report measurements of the spectral response of the cold sample to a weak probe beam for a range of detunings and power for the saturating trapping beams. Transmission spectra for the probe beam reveal the presence of broad absorption and gain features as well as narrow resonances. The power dependence of the broad part of the spectrum can be reasonably well described by earlier work for two-level atoms in a strong field.3 However, narrow dispersi
