Abstract:
Contrary to popular belief, mail-order marriage is not left behind in history. With technological advancement, globalism, and capitalism, mail-order relationships in the modern world have become a capitalist venture through the form of a global marriage market with Internet websites (Starr & Adams, 2016, pp. 968-969). Currently, the common practice operates internationally in between different nations and ethnicities (Merriman, 2012, p. 87). However, the mail-order bride market is distinct from the regular intercultural dating business: a clear power structure exists between the grooms (capitalist along with mail-order marriage companies) and the brides (commodities). This paper examines how this dating market serves Western men (I will be using this term interchangeably with American men) to reinforce traditional Western masculine hegemony and ethnic dominance in a global setting (Starr & Adams, 2016, p. 972).

Abstract:

Abstract:
This paper examines available literature of the practice of the mail-order bride industry, both within historical and contemporary contexts, with particular emphasis on Filipina women. With thousands of women immigrating to Western countries annually through the unregulated market of the marriage-order industry, scholars offer differing perspectives on the legitimacy of the arrangements. This paper analyzes the arguments made by scholars that the practice is inherently abusive, subjecting women to human trafficking. It also considers the arguments that mail-order marriages can be an empowering opportunity, citing the economic and social advantages afforded by immigrating to Western countries. Lastly, through available research which conducted interviews with mail-order brides, this paper examines women’s firsthand experiences and thoughts regarding the industry and their satisfaction within their marriages.

Abstract:
Sine Plambech: ’’Mail Order Brides’’ in Northwestern Jutland: Transnational Marriages in the Global Care Economy Women from Asia are increasingly traversing borders to marry men in the Western world. This article presents ethnographic research focused on Thai women married to Danish men. The existing discourse portrays these Thai “mail order brides“ through a discourse of victimization. First, they are commonly portrayed as being uprooted and permanently alienated from Thailand. Second, they are seen as merely victims of Third World poverty. A third portrayal sees them as a contraband commodity in illegal human trafficking. Finally, they are seen as victims of simple male domination. This raises two socio-political problems. First, the discourse does not necessarily represent the Thai bride’s self-perception. Second, it fails to recognize how this group of women contributes to the global economy, as remittances from Asian women have become a vital part of the economies of various Asian countries of emigration. This article argues that transnational brides are not merely powerless victims, but global economic actors on a structurally confined stage. While broader global processes are crucial background factors, migration is a concrete action carried out by specific persons in a specific context. Therefore this article analyses the personal motives underlying these Thai women’s migration to Denmark. These motives include embracing socio-cultural family values while paradoxically rejecting more traditional Thai gender values.

Abstract:
This article examines the extent to which the Indonesian government has made efforts in handling the Mail-Order Brides (MOB) Indonesia–China as part of trafficking in persons. Indonesia has been a country of origin, transit, and destination for victims over the years, thereby making this topic crucial. This study adopted a qualitative descriptive analysis, whilst data collection techniques were library research and online research. This article found that the Indonesian government had been effective in solving the MOB cases. The efforts, undertaken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Directorate General of Immigration, and the Chinese Embassy in Jakarta, had contributed significantly to the case study–where nearly 80% of the total cases reported between 2015 and 2019 were successfully resolved. In so doing, the Indonesian government also faced challenges; one of which was the lack of cooperation from the Chinese government– differences in views in the MOB cases. The results of this study include recommendations for public awareness campaigns for MOB, integration of transnational crime subjects in the education curriculum, and so forth. Asia is increasingly entering into the Australian imaginary as the nation grapples with the issue of ‘Australian identity’. This article examines two instances in which the idea of Asia has been taken up in debates about marriage and relations between men and women. Asia is a site of fantasy for men in an era when they feel that ‘traditional’ values of male pre-eminence in the family are being undermined. In this fantasy, ‘Asia’ is known through stereotypic representations, the stereotypes underlying the nature of the response in the popular media.

This narrative aims to explore the meaning and lived experiences of marriage that a unique immigrant population—“foreign brides” in Taiwan—possesses. This convergence narrative illustrates the dynamics and complexity of mail-order marriage and women's perseverance in a cross-cultural context. The relationship between marriage, race, and migration is analyzed. This narrative is comprised of and intertwined by two story lines. One is the story of two “foreign brides” in Taiwan. The other is my story about my cross-cultural relationship. All the dialogues are generated by 25 interviews of “foreign brides” in Taiwan and my personal experience.

Abstract:
This study aims to examine the practice of mail order bride in Indonesia, a practice that involves the choice of Indonesian women who are below the poverty line. Using qualitative methods with secondary data sources and adopting liberal feminist theory, the findings of the analysis show that women involved in this practice tend to be influenced by economic conditions, patriarchal stigma, and lack of access to education. Despite the Indonesian government's efforts through collaboration with women's protection organizations, the complexity of the challenges faced by Indonesian women indicates the need for more concrete and comprehensive measures. Therefore, in order to confront this practice, the Government of Indonesia needs to strengthen the policies that address the root causes of the poverty line among women involved in mail order bride, and ensure equitable welfare for women across Indonesia.

Abstract:
Marriage for some people is a sacred thing: it is a part of the important forms of worship of God. The sacredness, nevertheless, to some extent disappears when the marriage mainly becomes a trap that concludes with prostitution and slavery. This article examines mail-order bride as a form of human trafficking. Women in this kind of trafficking are primarily trafficked for prostitution industries. The mail, order bride arrangements occur in Indonesia and, also, in many countries in South Asia and Southeast Asia, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Vietnam, and Malaysia. This form of trafficking is more difficult to deal with because of its hidden schema: marriage is commonly considered an individual privacy wherein outsiders cannot easily interfere.

Abstract:
In order to improve the efficiency of water transport, avoid energy waste and protect the environment of the ocean and river, the protection of large transport vessels is particularly important. With the continuous development of waterway regulation and the continuous improvement of navigation conditions, the number of ships sailing in the Yinzhouhu section is increasing, and the risk of bridges being hit by ships is also gradually increasing. There are two common ways of bridge anti-collision: independent anti-collision system and its own anti-collision system. The former often adopts the form of independent anti-collision pier, which is generally used in the anti-collision area of old bridges, New bridges generally do not use this method, the latter mainly uses the method of improving the structural firmness of piers to achieve anti-collision, which is the most commonly used and more economical anti-collision method at present. In order to select a more reasonable standard of ship impact force and lay out reasonable anti-collision facilities, the anti-collision facilities of left branch main pier (55, 56) and right branch main pier (76, 77) of ZhongKai Yinzhouhu super-large bridge are studied and designed to provide reference for bridge design.

Abstract:
Romancing the Filipina on the Web is a nostalgic exercise that serves to reinforce the American colonialist ego, on the one hand, and Western-American machismo, on the other in the light of 9/11 and the continuing disintegration of familial units in the developed world. Significantly, these constructions are manifestly orientalist, partaking as they do of hysterical, hard-sell tactics. Here, the Filipina is a postcolonial Other who is simultaneously exoticized, eroticized and tribalized by means of fairy tale narratives that idealize intercultural marriages, testimonials from satisfied customers that guarantee success, and pictures that both tease and please the patriarchal gaze. Yet, while web space is hegemonic space, there are Baudellairian insurgencies within this textual domain that challenge the mail order bride imagology. These texts serve as blueprints for the de/reconstructionist agenda that seeks to articulate marginal voices in the new frontier that is the world-wide web.

Like all other civil engineering structures, suspension bridge is subjected to long-term formidable environment, such as fatigue and corrosion. After its open to traffic, degradation and damage of its components appear in suspension bridges, which cause the reduction of bearing capacity and reliability of suspension bridges. Therefore, the service safety of suspension bridges is a topic of importance, particularly for its managers. This paper provides maintenance strategies for managing and maintaining the structural safety of suspension bridge in a life cycle framework in order to rationalize maintenance actions, economically.

The celebrated tale of his "Midnight Ride" notwithstanding, Paul Revere's role in the events leading up to the American Revolution remains rather obscure. Joseph Warren, known as the man who sent Revere on that ride, presents a similar quandary. What was the nature of the roles they played in the mobilization process? I address the question from a social structural perspective, reassessing the evidence and reconsidering the key concept of brokerage. The analysis shows that these men were bridges par excellence, spanning the various social chasms and connecting disparate organizational elements of the movement, thus bringing together "men of all orders" to forge an emerging movement.

Abstract:
In order to study the influence of beam-reduction and rib-addition strengthening method on the natural vibration properties of hollow slab bridges, based on bridge natural vibration frequency and the vibration mode in the first three orders as main comparison parameters, according to the comparison between the theoretical values as well as experimental values of the natural vibration properties before and after strengthening, the practical effect of this strengthening method is studied. The test data show that the beam-reduction and rib-addition strengthening method results in an obvious enhancement of the natural vibration frequency of simply supported hollow slab bridges, which proves that the strengthening method has remarkable improvement effect on the rigidity of bridges. It can be seen from the comparison of the changes of the vibration mode in the first three orders before and after strengthening that the transverse connection of bridge is strengthened and the integrity is prominently enhanced after strengthening. The study result is that the beam-reduction and rib-addition strengthening method can greatly enhance the structural behavior of hollow slab bridges.

Abstract:
The Water Framework Directive (WFD) requires from member states to monitor hydromorphological features of rivers in order to assess their ecological quality. Thus, numerous hydromorphological assessment methods have been developed with most of them focusing on the dynamics of hydrology, geomorphology and riparian zone extent. Within the scope of this study, we assessed the hydromorphological features of 106 river reaches distributed among thirteen WFD River Basin Districts (RBDs) to identify the main drivers of hydromorphological perturbation at a national scale. The studied reaches reflect a wide range of natural variability as they include various types of watercourses extending from lowlands to mid-altitude and mountainous systems. We employed the River Habitat Survey (RHS), and we recorded hydromorphological features and modifications in both banks and the channel bed along 500 m for each reach. Then, the Habitat Modification Score (HMS) and the individual sub-scores that indicate the extent of specific modifications (e.g., bridges, fords, weirs, bank reprofiling, bank reinforcement, etc.) were calculated in order to a) assess the severity of the total artificial modification and b) to highlight the most common and severe causes of overall alteration. The results showed that alterations such as reprofiling and reinforcement of banks contributed the most to the total HMS followed by the presence of fords and bridges. Particularly, the bank alterations indicate a serious deterioration of the longitudinal profile of the reaches, while the occurrence of many fords and bridges is the main cause for perturbations that affect locally the stream cross-sectional profile. Overall, these results compile a first nationwide assessment of the hydromorphological status of Greek rivers in line with the WFD and set the basis for further research that will focus on the diversity of stream habitat features as a measure for the overall ecological quality.

Abstract:
A full-order and single-parameter searching method (F-S method) for analyzing coupled flutter instability of long-span bridges is proposed based on the full-discretized model of structure. Based on the proper approximation of the circular frequency of complex modes, the characteristic equation of the full-order system is expressed as a complex generalized eigenvalue equation that contains only two variables. The equation is used for flutter analysis by solving the complex generalized eigenvalue problem with an efficient simultaneous iteration method directly. Since its computation is reliable and efficient, the application of the proposed method on the flutter problems of long-span bridges is practical. Moreover, the flutter analysis is performed for Jiangyin Yangtze river suspension bridge with 1385 m main span in the completed stage to illustrate the reliability and effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:
In this research factors affecting the non-linearity of suspension bridges were studied. The fundamental parameters studied are the main and side span lengths, cable sag, tower height, cable x-section and the flexural rigidity of the stiffening girder .The effect of variation of each parameter on the cable tension and the girder moments is studied. A non-linear 2-dimensional mathematical model of a 3 span, continuous suspension bridge is considered . The solution is based on the second order deflection theory given in a computerized form. It has been found that the degree of effect of these parameters on the results of analysis in a descending order is: the main span length, side span length, cable sag, cable section and the stiffness of the bridge girder.

Abstract:
Purpose of research. This article analyzes thermal imaging surveys of residential premises in monolithic houses built in 2018 and 2019 in the city of Voronezh. Based on the regulatory requirements of Federal Law No. 261-F3 "On Energy Saving and energy Efficiency improvement", the question is raised about the essential shortcomings in the structural units of the monolithic overlap associated with errors in design and installation. Such errors lead to the formation of places through which heat losses occur - "cold bridges". "Cold bridges" worsen the energy-efficient properties of structures and provoke excessive costs for the operation of buildingsMethods. In the article under consideration, the method of thermal imaging is used for non-contact diagnostics of "cold bridges".Results. The analysis of thermograms is based on identifying the causes of violations of thermal insulation of external enclosing structures or a decrease in its qualities. The main criterion for comparing different surface areas of enclosing structures is the temperature difference at the selected point on the compared surface area. The temperature difference between the indoor temperature and the surface temperature of the wall of a residential building on the 45th Rifle Division Street exceeds +6.0 ° C with a normalized value of Δtext =+4.0 °C. The temperature difference between the indoor temperature and the surface temperature of the wall of a residential building on Kholzunov Street exceeds +11.0 ° C with a normalized value of Δtext =+4.0 °C.Conclusion. The above results of the thermal imaging survey allow us to conclude that thermal pads were either not installed along the perimeter of the cantilever ceiling discs, or were mounted with gross errors. Uncontrolled loss of heat through fixed "cold bridges" leads to a significant increase in heat consumption for heating the building. This is contrary to Law No. 261-FZ "On Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency Improvement". It is quite labor-intensive to eliminate existing bridges in operated apartments. It is advisable to prevent their formation at the design stage and during installation work by means of perforation of a monolithic floor slab. The use of thermal pads leads to a decrease in specific heat loss by an average of 1.5 times and practically eliminates freezing under standard conditions.

Abstract:
In order to discuss the mechanical behaviour differences between the two-tower and three-tower suspension bridges, based on the Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge, three dimensional space finite element models of two-tower, three-tower with concrete mid-tower and with steel mid-tower were constructed. Through the comprehensive analysis, main conclusions are got as follows: due to the mid-tower lack of effective restraint from side cable, compared with two-tower suspension bridges, three-tower suspension bridges have lower total stiffness and natural frequency, with larger deflection-to-span ratio of main girder. So, some factors such as anti-slipping safety factor between the main cable and saddle, deflection-to-span ratio of main girder and force in mid-tower, which are not important in two-tower design, become controlling ones in three-tower suspension bridges. These factors are related to anti-pushing rigidity of mid-tower, but in contradictory demanding for the rigidity of mid-tower. After comprehensive analysis, steel tower with shape of upside-down ‘Y’ meets all demands, and then, was selected as appropriate structure for the mid-tower.

Abstract:
Currently, there are quite a lot of road bridges in operation, designed and built in different periods. It is necessary to maintain the road network including bridge structures in a condition that meets up-to-date standards, and for this repair should be carried out using reinforcing elements of the supporting structures. With high-quality construction and proper maintenance, a high degree of safety of bridges allows to extend their service life by solving a number of design issues, the most important of which is considered to be the provision of standard load capacity. Strengthening in order to increase the carrying capacity of operated bridges is achieved by adding elements external or incorporated into the existing structure, depending on the type of structure, its condition and available production technology. However, not only the carrying capacity, but also the susceptibility of structures to deformations determines the transport and operational parameters of the structure, which characterize the post-repair state of the bridge. The purpose of this study is to analyze the well-known and widely demanded method of reinforcing reinforced concrete beams with external reinforcement as providing minimal interference with the existing basic structures, technological and affordable in execution. For the first time, an assessment of the influence of the staging of the inclusion of reinforcement elements in the work on the general deformations – deflections of the main beams. Keywords: main beam, carrying capacity, reinforcement, external reinforcement, free rod, staging of work, relative deformation, deflection.

Abstract:
Living load nonlinearity of self-anchored cable-stayed suspension bridges is studied in this paper. A self-anchored cable-stayed suspension bridge with a main span of 800m is analyzed with linear theory, second-order theory and nonlinear theory respectively. The moments and displacements of both the girder and the pylon under live load are acquired. Based on the results it is derived that the second-order theory can be adopted to analyze a self-anchored cable-stayed suspension bridge with a main span of 800m and the error is less than 6%.
