In the present paper, a new species of cynipid gall wasp, Andricus elodeoides Liu & Pang, is described from several provinces in southern China. The new species is closely related to the recently redescribed A. mairei (Kieffer, 1906). In addition to differences in adult and gall morphology, the new species is also readily separated by COI sequences, with a 6.2–8.9% genetic distance between populations of the new species and those of A. mairei. Thalictrum mairei (Ranunculaceae) has been previously placed in synonymy with T. leuconotum based on non-type material of the former name. Critical examination of the type material of T. mairei reveals that it is actually synonymous with T. foliolosum, not T. leuconotum. We therefore reduce T. mairei to the synonymy of T. foliolosum herein. We also clarify morphological distinction among T. leuconotum, T. sinomacrostigma, T. uncatum var. angustialatum and T. uncatum var. uncatum. Lectotypification is proposed for T. falconeri (another synonym of T. foliolosum) and T. foliolosum.

Maidei is well educated, financially secure and wields enormous power both within her family and at her workplace. She therefore, unlike many women, does not fall into the typical HIV victim category, characterised by poverty, coerced sex and desperation. Maidei's story demonstrates that economic security does not necessarily result in women taking decision making roles during sex.

Introduction Previous research had suggested that benzoxazinoids, a class of defensive metabolites found in maize, wheat, rye, and wild barley, are not only direct insect deterrents, but also influence other areas of plant metabolism. In particular, the benzoxazinoid 2,4-dihydroxy-7-methoxy-2H-1,4-benzoxa- zin-3(4H)- one (DIMBOA) was implicated in: (i) altering plant growth by interfering with auxin signaling, and (ii) leading to the induction of gene expression changes and secondary plant defense responses.
