Abstract:
This study analyzes the post-September 11 Taliban’s discourse, exploring particularly the sujet of the battle of Maiwand (July 27, 1880) in the Taliban’s tarani (pl. of tarana “chant, song”). After providing a brief history of the post-September 11 conflict in Afghanistan, the paper examines Afghanistan’s experience of colonialism in the 19th century by discussing the Anglo-Afghan wars, with a focus on the battle of Maiwand and its importance in the modern history of Afghanistan. This study takes a postcolonial and postmodernist approach to discourse analysis. Using a postmodernist approach, the author tried to understand how the Taliban saw the post-September 11, 2001 conflict, and how they legitimized their actions. This study concludes that the Taliban used Afghanistan’s past experience of colonialism in their discourse. In fact, they refer to the historical events and personalities, those led resistance against colonial powers in the 19th century, for propaganda purposes. In addition, the paper shows that the colonial past is an important factor in the success or failure of interventions and peacekeeping missions, particularly in Afghanistan.

Abstract:
Based on the chemical mass balance (CMB) model, the heavy metals deposited in the bottom sediment of Hongfeng Lake were mainly apportioned to Houliu River and Maiweng River. The results of source apportionment of heavy metals enriched by man-made effluents showed that Hg was from the estuary area of Maiweng River; Tiand As pollutants were mainly from Maiweng River and Houliu River. The concentration of Cd was significantly impacted by its surrounding land use types because of its limited transportation distance.

Abstract:
IN Nigeria, millet, an important cereal of the dry tropics, could be grown for forage in the low land forest zone where it is not normally cultivated and where the rainy season lasts eight or more months. To determine lis potential is in annual forage, 'maiwa', which is a short-day photoperiod-sensitive millet (Pennisetum americanum(Linn) K. Schum.), was evaluated in 1972 along with the following promising genotypes of three perennial forage grasses, for comparisons: Nchisi variety of Guinea Grass (Panicum maximum Jacq.) S. 112, elephant grass Pennisetum purpureum Schum.) S. 12 a local selection, and F1 Pennisetum hybrid No. 18 an interspecific hybrid of 'maiwa' millet and elephant grass. The perennial grasses were harvested every five weeks for dry matter (DM) yield estimation while 'maiwa' was first harvested five weeks after sowing and then every four weeks thereafter. Both total and daily DM production of 'maiwa' were significantly lower than those of all the perennial grasses. Annual DM production, average daily DM production and average DM content of 'maiwa', Guinea grass, elephant grass and the F1 Pennisetum hybrid were, respectively 10510, 18731, 16796 and 14900 kg/ha; 51.77, 89.19, 80.00, and 70.95 kg/ha; and 14.12, 19.32, 12.46 and 14.30%. However 'maiwa' contained significantly more leaf in the freshly cut herbage with 55% compared to 46, 43 and 43% for Guinea grass, elephant grass and F1 Pennisetum hybrid No. 18 respectively, When cut at four and five weeks crude protein (CP) values of ‘maiwa’ were 17.41 and 15.78% of DM respectively and were higher than those of Guinea grass (10.94 ind 10.14 elephant grass (12.68 11.17%) and the F1 Pennisetum hybrid (14.19 and 13.52%). Crude fibre (CF) values of 'maiwa' at four and five weeks were 26.06 and 27.96% of DM respectively while those of the perennial grasses ranged between 26.14 and 28. 61% and 27.35 and 30.64%, respectively. Mortality of 'maiwa' stands increased from 6% early in the rainy season to 75% at the beginning of the dry season when the study was terminated. When grazed in 1975, 66.7% of 'maiwa' DM on offer was consumed. The results indicated a superiority in quality of ‘maiwa' forage. Improvement in the level and seasonal distribution of 'maiwa' herbage production as well as quality can be realised through suitable agronomic practices as well as breeding.

Abstract:
The paper by Natascha Müller follows the new way of studying bilingual first language acquisition which has been advocated in the last few years by several researchers (Döpke, 1996, 1997; Gawlitzek-Maiwald & Tracy, 1996; Hulk & Van der Linden, 1996; Hulk, 1997). In this new approach, while it is taken as an established fact that bilingual children are capable of early language differentiation, at the same time a lot of attention is given to cross-linguistic influence as an important characteristic of bilingual first language acquisition. We will discuss the nature of differentiation and transfer here as presented by Müller's paper and the way we see it ourselves. We will illustrate our position with examples from the French-Dutch bilingual child we have been studying for some time.

Abstract:
The objective of this research was to improve the listening comprehension of the students of SMPN 1 Maiwa by using English Movies. The research aimed to see if English movies can improve the listening skills of students and to find out how students are using English Movies to increase their listening skills. The pre-experimental method was used. Students from SMPN 1 Maiwa in 2018/2019, which comprises 20 students, were part of the research. Ten first-class students and 10 second-class students. In taking the sample, the author used a random sample. The researcher used data collection methods and questionnaires. The researcher has distributed listening tests by pre-testing and post-testing and sent questionnaires to gather information on their attitudes towards using English movies. Work suggests that the listening abilities of the students were poor in the preliminary examination. Their ability to listen is considerably increased after therapy. From their score, it can be seen that changed well. The findings evaluated with the t-test suggest that the t-test value is higher than the t-table (7.98>2.093). English Movies can be concluded to develop the listening skills of students.

Abstract:
Downy mildew caused by Sclerospora graminicola (Sacc.) Schroet is a major limiting factor to the production of pearl millet globally. Therefore, a field trial was carried out during the 2018 and 2019 rainy seasons at Bauchi and Maiduguri located in the Northern Guinea and Sudan Savannah of Nigeria, respectively. The aim was to evaluate the effects of different sowing dates and a fungicide on seedlings establishment of three pearl millet genotypes infected with downy mildew disease. Randomized Complete Block Design was used with a factorial arrangement of treatments, which comprised three pearl millet genotypes (Gero, Maiwa, Dauro), three sowing dates (late-June, mid-July and late-July) and metalaxyl fungicide (treated and untreated). Results for genotypes consistently showed that Maiwa performed better than Gero and Dauro. In terms of the sowing date, the performance of millet was better in the first sowing date (late-June), followed by the second date (mid-July) and then the third date (late-July). Mean values of the seedling establishment were significantly decreased with delay in sowing date. Results, in respect of the fungicide treatments, generally indicated a higher seedling stands in the treated (78.6 - 87.4%) than untreated seed (70.9 - 81.1%) across the locations. These findings revealed that treated seeds with metalaxyl fungicide and early sowing give better seedling establishment in pearl millet.

Abstract:
In the reading process, reading comprehension is an essential part. This concept is in line with the Minister of Education and Culture Regulation number 23 in 2015, about the literacy movements to build a good character. However, students sometimes could not achieve it because the student cannot comprehend the reading material well. Besides, most students seem complicated to understand an English text and lazy to find the appropriate strategy to elaborate on their reading comprehension in rural living areas. Those become some researchers' concerns to conduct this research when doing observations at SMP Negeri 4 Maiwa in Enrekang Regency South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The students showed feeble and problematic reading comprehension. Then, taking the benefit of the tongue's benefits, adapted the translanguaging strategy as problem-solving for students' lack of reading comprehension. The object of this study is whether or not the translanguaging strategy can enhance student reading comprehension of eight-grade students SMP Negeri 4 Maiwa. The researchers applied the quasi-experimental method, with two groups pre-test and post-test design. The samples of the research consisted of 35 students from two classes. The result of the data analysis showed that the students' reading comprehension improved significantly. It indicated that the translanguaging strategy could enhance the reading comprehension of the students at that school. The students who learned reading through the translanguaging strategy had better improvement than the students who learned through the translation strategy.

Abstract:
Ever since the West’s initial contact with the East, Muslim women haveoccupied center stage as highly politicized subjects who the West hasclaimed to liberate from the oppressive East and who the East has claimedto protect from the hedonistic West. Despite their central role as pawns inthis political struggle, women have been strikingly silent subjects. Thisbook belongs to an emerging collection of books that seek to give voice tothese silent subjects. Nawal El Saadawi, in her emotionally charged“Foreword,” captures the book’s tone quite well in her expression that “thepersonal is political” (p. x). Through personal stories, this anthology seeksto dissociate Islam from both terrorism and the oppression of women.Fawzia Afzal-Khan’s anecdotal introduction reveals that her goal istwofold: first, to connect various strands of conversation between MuslimAmerican women from different backgrounds since 9/11, and, second, toenlighten both Muslim and non-Muslim readers of the varied realities of the“Muslim Woman.”This anthology is divided into six sections. Section 1, “Non-Fiction,”contains several personal accounts of Muslim American women’s encounterswith 9/11. In her piece “Unholy Alliances,” Afzal-Khan vents her frustrationon several targets, including Israel, American foreign policy, SalmanRushdie, women who choose to wear the hijab, as well as the MontclairUniversity Muslim Students’ Association and the Global Studies Institute.Nadia Ali Maiwandi, Zohra Saed, and Wajma Ahmady reflect on theresponses they encountered and experienced amidst the Afghan-Americancommunity in the aftermath of 9/11. Eisa Nefertari Ulen’s genuinely tolerantarticle encourages Muslim and non-Muslim women to work together.Writing from her perspective as an African-American convert, she identifiesissues of gender and religion as mere smokescreens used by the “oppressor”to separate women (p. 50). Humera Afridi’s witty and refreshing work functionsas a social commentary on the climate of New York City after the 9/11attacks. One of the most edifying pieces is Rabab Abdulhadi’s “Where isHome?” This piece, written as a series of journal entries, captures the strugglesof identity faced by an exiled Palestinian woman as she tries to make ahome in New York City in the aftermath of 9/11 ...

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the evolution of interest in the paper mill in Duszniki-Zdrój for over two centuries. The paper mill was established before 1562, when the Kłodzko region was part of the Kingdom of Bohemia. The mill played an important economic and cultural role for nearly three centuries. It stopped its operations during the great economic crisis and in 1939 was sold to the city of Duszniki. After the Second World War and incorporation of Silesia with the Kłodzko region into Poland, the mill was o fficially recognised as a historic building (listed in 1956) and in 1968 it was turned into the Museum of Papermaking. It 2011 the paper mill was granted the status of a Monument of History, which paved the way for it to be included in the UNESCO list.Interest in the history of the mill dates back to at least the second half of the eighteenth century. In 1789 a detailed history of the mill was published in Beyträge zur Beschreibung von Schlesien by F.A. Zimmermann and a lot of the information included in it at the time still remains relevant. During the following century interest in the history of the mill was shown by J. Kögler and W. Hohaus, and in the early twentieth century — by F. Hössle or B. Maiwald. After the Second World War the history of the mill was studied by many Polish historians, including K. Maleczyńska, M. Kutzner, M. Przyłecki, K. Sarnecki and W. Tomaszewska. The interest in the paper mill and its history has been boosted on an unprecedented scale over the recent decade, after eff orts were launched to have the mill entered in the UNESCO list. The paper mill has been studied by e.g. R. Eysymontt, A. Fortuna-Marek, G. Grajewski, A. Kozieł, R. Sachs, A. Szeląg, B. Szmygin, as well as J. Bałchan and M. Szymczyk, both of whom were associated with the museum. In 2018 the Museum of Papermaking published a Monograph of the Duszniki-Zdrój Paper Mill, which contains the latest fi ndings about the history of the paper mill and which will be used in the nomination for the mill to be included in the World Heritage List.
