In 2008, a large African baobab (Adansonia digitata L.) from Makulu Makete, South Africa, split vertically into 2 sections, revealing a large enclosed cavity. Several wood samples collected from the cavity were processed and radiocarbon dated by accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) for determining the age and growth rate dynamics of the tree. The 14C date of the oldest sample was found to be of 1016 ± 22 BP, which corresponds to a calibrated age of 1000 ± 15 yr. We investigated the effects of rainfall on the distribution and abundance of the satyrine butterfly Ragadia makuta in selectively logged and unlogged forest on Borneo. Grain storage plays a crucial role in ensuring food security to Thai farmers so sustainable protection methods against deleterious microorganisms, such as fungi, are necessary. Abstract:

This is the first part of the two parts of a qualitative focused R&D research aimed at designing an application to assist students with visual impairment (VI) in learning English writing and reading skills. The designed application was a speaker-dependent based speech recognition. Conducting alpha and beta testings, it was revealed that MAKTUM, the name of the application, exposed weaknesses on the selection of Ogden’s Basic English as the linguistic resources for the application and on the recording complexities.
