Abstract:
A proverb is one of figurative languages delivered from generation to generation aimed to be a guide in living life. Thus, people can learn many lessons through it. In Malay language, there are quite a lot of proverbs that have natural elements such as water, fire, earth, and wind/air in them. Unfortunately, learning about Malay proverbs in schools has not been able to restore the existence of Malay proverbs among young people. This study aims to introduce a different way of studying Malay proverbs, especially those with natural elements, namely by looking for the meaning and reason behind the choice of words in the proverb. By using the method of inquisitive semantics analysis in analyzing the data collected, this study was able to find four elements of nature in Malay proverbs namely the elements of water, fire, earth, and wind/air. Specifically, this study found a total of 8 proverbs with the element of water, 4 proverbs with the element of fire, 4 proverbs with the element of earth, and 4 proverbs with the element of wind/air. This study found the fact that Malay Society is indeed very close to nature as proven by the many natural elements found in Malay proverbs. In these proverbs, many things can be learned, for example, culture, history, and also the mindset of the Malay Society itself.

Abstract:
The beauty of Malay proverbs can not only be seen through the use of poetic language but can also be seen through the common sense. A beautiful proverb with a deep meaning is the result of the Malay community's high appreciation and common sense towards the environment that underlies life. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify the elephant -based domain in proverbs based on corpus data obtained through the book Malay Proverbs: A Study of Meaning and Value written by Zaitul Azma Zainon Hamzah and Ahmad Fuad Mat Hassan (2011) and www.malaycivilization.com website. This study applies the Cross-Reference Framework (RRS) from Kempson (1984). The results of the study found that the element of elephant serves as a symbol in Malay proverbs that are closely related to life of the Malay community itself. There are five main domains of elephant proverbs which are include the domains of leadership (12 proverbs), humanity (14 roverbs), life (13 proverb), thrift (3 proverbs) and knowledge (3 provrbs). Malay observations and life experiences were contributing to creative thinking in conveying the implicit message with politeness.

Abstract:
Malay proverbs which are sourced from chicken, are 90 in total. Various references of chicken have been created by the Malays to mirror the behaviours and actions of human beings implicitly. Each of the references can provide lessons, advices and reprimands in a gentle manner and can still be used up to today. The attributes of “careful”, “useless” and “betrayal” are among these references. In order to analyse the data of these proverbs, the research will use the Inquisitive Semantics Approach, besides the application of bridging cross reference (BCR) based on the corpus data obtained from Pangkalan Korpus Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) and Malay Concordance Project (MCP). Therefore, as the objective of this study, the researchers will explore the reasons why the Malay community choose the imagery of chicken. Each of these references will benefit the authentic data which are related to the cognition, culture and intellect of the Malay community in itself. This research employs fully qualitative approaches through documentary analysis that involves the Malay proverb data which have been recorded beforehand. The findings of these proverbs data are collected from Kamus Peribahasa Melayu Edisi Kelima, Kamus Istimewa Peribahasa Melayu Edisi Kedua and Kamus Peribahasa Melayu using the purposive sampling method. In conclusion, this study finds that the inquisitive semantics approach is capable of uncovering the Malay proverbs’ meanings which are not confined only to literal and cognitive understandings but reflect also the height of intellect and philosophy of the Malays themselves.

Abstract:
This study aims to examine the conceptualisation of the diligence value in the Malay and Tamil proverbs based on the Hybrid Theory. This is a qualitative research design using the content analysis method. The research data are all of the proverbs denoting the value of diligence found in the Malay and Tamil textbooks used in the primary level but only four proverbs from these textbooks are part of the analysis. The analysis of the operational metaphor for each proverb is based on the domain features contained in the conceptual space defined in the Hybrid Theory. Additionally, the Malay and Tamil proverbs have its own moral values and philosophical foundations based on each context of the respective society. We suggest that the conceptual space visualises the similarities and differences in the comparison of the Malay and Tamil proverbs. The analysis displays a new approach in conceptualising proverbs according to the Malay and Tamil cultural thinking in tandem with the intellectual advancements of the respective tradition. Hence, this study of proverbs indirectly reveals a new perspective on the semantic-pragmatic aspects in Malay and Tamil civilizations for the readers.

This study aimed to determine the environmental opposites between Arabic and Malay proverbs. It used contrastive descriptive method to analyze similarities and differences in environmental opposites of both proverbs. The data sources used were Arabic and Malay proverbs from various literatures. The results showed that in Malay proverbs, although the stories and events are lost, the words do not deviate far from general proverbs and particularly Arabic proverbs. Arabic and Malay proverbs environments have similar characteristics even though they use quite different word choices.

Abstract:
This paper discusses about the symbol of “jantan” (male dominance) which have positive meanings, found in Malay proverbs by Tenas Effendy. This discussion uses the Framework of Malay Critiques by S. Othman Kelantan, which contains 10 principles. The underlying meanings in the “jantan” symbol will be analyzed to scrutinize the worldview of those who conceptualize these Malay proverbs as well as their association with the negative traits of male dominance. Malay proverbs that have been examined will be able to illuminate the inherent thought patterns of the Malay society, and at the same time, explore their vast knowledge of the world. Research on the Malay “Jantan” is important to analyze the lens in which was viewed by a predominantly oral society, as well as the explicit and implicit meanings of the symbols in Malay proverbs.

Abstract:
With reference to the Malay Language Secondary School Standard Curriculum, proverbs in Malaysian contexts are one of the language aspects that students needs to use integrated in the language teaching. This research identified proverbs in the Malaysian secondary school textbooks analyzed using inquisitive semantic approach. The proverbs data were obtained Form 4 and Form 5 Malay Language textbooks, from Ministry of Education Malaysia. Nine pieces of data were identified using the inquisitive semantics study framework involving three stages; surface meaning analysis, the semantics resonance analysis involving speaker’s cognitive by applying the Cross-reference Framework (Kempson, 1986) in the Relevance Theory (Sperber Wilson, 2986; 1995), and the meaning analysis using the inquisitive semantics approach (Jalaluddin, 2014). The study indicated the proverb meaning analysis starting from the knowledge of the meaning from the dictionary, followed by the meaning of the proverbs in the context of sentences, and the exploration into the philosophy and common sense underlying the formation of the proverbs. The study proposed that the textbooks stimulated students’ higher-order thinking skills with the inquiry method to create new discovery and knowledge. In conclusion, the textbooks offered teachers the proverbs analyzed by the inquisitive semantics approach as a teaching approach such to make the process of learning language in their classrooms more meaningful.

Abstract:
This paper examines the comparison between Japanese kotowaza and Malay proverbs via the lens of ethnolinguistics. The rich cultural exchanges between the Japanese empire and Malay civilisation since the 15th century must be based on mutual values that both parties can agree upon. One such aspect is the sociocultural values apparent in proverbs and idioms. This aspect is integral in ethnolinguistics. Therefore, this paper has three objectives: 1) To compare and contrast the entities and the conventionalised metaphorical interpretations made in the proverbs of the two languages; 2) to conduct a comprehensive discourse analysis on the proverbs based on ethnolinguistic approaches; and 3) to trailblaze the opportunities for ethnolinguists to consider expanding the research in paremiology. This research is motivated due to the very scarce resource in Japanese-Malay comparative proverbs study. The methods used are library research and Cornell note-taking technique. There are 10 proverbs respectively in Japanese and Malay for similarity and 5 respective proverbs for the difference, totalling to 30 proverbs in both languages. The findings show that the proverbs in the two different languages can both reach the same interpretation despite different extensive backgrounds. However, opposing or dissimilar outcomes also occur despite the same referents or symbols used in the metaphors. This paper concludes with the limitations and suggestions for linguists to consider in their research on proverbs.

Proverbs are the integral part of spiritual treasures of the culture and language of the people, the age-old wisdom and skills used by them. Proverbs are also an interesting pieces of popular wisdom and tradition belonging to any culture, which help us to foreground the values a shared beliefs held by a speech community. By applying Sperber and Wilson’s Relevance Theory, this dissertation research aims to analyze the functions and uses of Sarawak Malays’ proverbs which up to now received very little attention amongst the local researchers. Besides, the application of this theory has successfully explains how the proverbs allow the speaker to express his or her intentions, feelings and insights in an implicit way and tacit manner. The findings demonstrate that the main functions of the Sarawak Malays’ proverbs are criticism, advice, warning, educating, sarcasm and insinuation which also reflect the wisdoms and wits of the Sarawak Malays. This research also offered an explanation of how the often ironical, metaphorical and figurative nature of the proverbs significantly affects their understanding. In addition, I have also studied the use of ellipsis in the familiar proverbs as well as found out the existence of various types of proverbs amongst the Sarawak Malays’ community. Ultimately, the conclusions of the research are to attain a better comprehension of the functions and uses of the Sarawak Malays’ proverbs

Abstract:
For ESL students, acquiring English proverbs have always been a struggle due to a wide range of aspects related to L2 that are mostly dissimilar with their L1. However, many studies conducted have accentuated the significance of comprehending L2 proverbs in encouraging students’ communicative competence in real-life context. Due to limited L2 exposure or knowledge related to proverbial texts, ESL students have the tendency to use word-for-word translation when they attempt to use them in writing and speaking. To encourage students to use suitable English proverbs, a 52-piece proverbs card game that consists of English proverbs with equivalent Malay proverbs pairs was introduced to 20 heterogeneous level of ESL diploma students. A case study with a predominant quantitative method was employed where the preliminary pre- and post-test were conducted to investigate the significance of introducing the proverbs card game to reduce students’ direct translation. Subsequently, the result was later validated with qualitative data where semi-structured interviews were conducted in order to identify the affective variables as proposed by Krashen (1982) in Affective Filter Hypothesis. From the findings, it can be presumed that there is a significant difference between pre- and post-test scores with the post-test scores being higher16than the pre-test scores. Moreover, based on the hypothesis, data analysed from the semi-structured interviews revealed respondents’ affective variables such as motivation, self-confidence, attitude were high and anxiety are high, thus, it allows more comprehensible input when they were playing with the proverbs card game. Therefore, it can be concluded that teaching L2 proverbs using card game can help students’ reduce dependency on direct translation and lower their affective filter hypothesis which enriches their usage of L2 proverbs.

Abstract:
Proverbs are important cultural products that both reveal and direct the values, behaviour and world view of a particular culture. This article relates the proverbial collection of two particular cultural groups, the Malays and Chinese of Malaysia, to workplace attitudes. After reviewing more than 2000 proverbs, we identified those that were most pertinent to the Malaysian workplace, based on two key categories: (i) the portrayal of work in the lives of the Malays and Chinese and (ii) the approach to workplace etiquette. Local proverbs portray hard work as an admirable quality among not only the Chinese but also among the Malays, despite suggestions to the contrary by some writers. Regarding workplace relations, proverbs again constitute a vital source of guidance for both groups, particularly the high regard for ‘face’.

Abstract:
This study aims at analysing the disparity of the feline representations with the search for their cross-cultural differences between English and Malay feline proverbs. It is an attempt to scrutinize the influence of distinctive cultural backgrounds behind the inauguration of feline representations in the proverbs. The Great Chain of Metaphor Theory (GCM) framework by Lakoff and Turner (1989) is utilised in the process to achieve the purposes of this study, with a focus on the four components, namely the Naïve Theory of the Nature in Things, the Great Chain of Being, the Generic is Specific Metaphor, and the Maxim of Quantity; to explore the differences based on the cross-cultural factors in the proverbs. The findings from this study indicate that customs, religion, and the core values of the particular cultural background, with the touch of favouritism, existence in the surroundings, and the top position of the feline animals, are the factors that influenced the different representations generated within the cultural notions. This study helps to fill the gaps of past research on the comparison and contrast analysis of proverbs between different languages, particularly the English and Malay languages, besides adding new insights on the cross-cultural aspects, which would be beneficial for language learners, primarily foreign learners, to enhance their cultural knowledge.

Abstract:
Abstract This action research was conducted to improve the mastery of proverbs in the Malay language subject for 3 Level Two primary school students through the JUPERMA 1.0 game. JUPERMA 1.0 is an acronym for Jutaria innovation with Malay Proverbs that is an innovative idea from the Jutaria game. It is a board game combined with digital tools in line with the latest technological developments that help students achieve effectiveness in learning proverbs. The main issue among primary school students is the weakness of students in mastering proverbs which in turn will affect their ability to write Malayalam essays. This happens because they do not understand the meaning of some proverbs which causes them to be unable to answer the questions and their writing becomes ungrammatical. This innovation is designed using materials that are cheap, easy to find and also use waste materials in the effort of environmental sustainability, in addition to the use of digital applications to further increase students' interest in this innovation. The results of this action research were collected by using several research instruments, namely observation, pre-test and final test as well as interviews throughout the intervention process. Through this JUPERMA 1.0 innovation, there is an increase in students' interest and understanding in Malay proverbs through the concept of didik hibur which is highlighted in this action study. It is hoped that the JUPERMA 1.0 innovation can be implemented as a teaching aid for teachers in the classroom in line with the learning trend of the 21st century through the application of interesting animation not only for students in primary school, but also for students in secondary school.

Abstract:
Idioms, proverbs, similes and pantun all fall under the category of “metaphor” in Malay. Interestingly, the metaphors are not superficial; instead, they are permeated with philosophy, which in turn convey Malay thought. Clearly, these metaphors are composed using specific objects that have a close connection with meaning. Therefore, it is worthwhile to examine this connection and the meaning that is meant to be conveyed. This study focuses on data concerning idioms about mata[eyes] and kuku [fingernails]. References to ulam-ulaman (herbal plants eaten raw) were chosen for analysis of pantun. All of the data was taken from www.malaycivilization. com. The data analysis was performed using inquisitive semantics in an effort to uncover cognitive philosophical and cultural roles to explain why a particular object is selected for a particular metaphor. The actual meaning is revealed through three steps: literal, cognitive and inquisitive. The findings of this study show that the objects mata and kuku, as well as herbal plants, are aptly used to suggest the meaning that they are to convey. Mata signals feelings, kuku concerns closeness and herbal plants are associated with love, as proven by the data selected. The discussionthen extends to other fields, medicine and nutrition, in reference to proverbs and pantun. Clearly, this kind of multidisciplinary study is able to discuss Malay metaphors scientifically and convincingly.

Abstract:
Proverb sits under the umbrella of figurative language and is used to sweeten speeches. In Malay, pepatah is the equivalent of this form of figurative language. Razak Abdul Aziz, a Malaysian composer, selected a set of Malay proverbs and adapted them into his piano work, Pepatah Episodes. The composer follows the tradition of piano programme music that uses figurative language elements championed by composers such as Alexander Scriabin, Claude Debussy, and Maurice Ravel. This paper aims to investigate the pepatahs chosen to be paired with the written music, expounding the programme in the movements for piano. Using the programme music analysis framework by Burkholder et al. (2014) and Kregor (2015), the finding shows that the composer chose the pepatahs for one of the three (3) portrayals: (i) imageries in the pepatah (ii) imageries in the meaning, and (iii) imageries in pepatah and meaning. The programme analysis shows that from the nine (9) movements written for piano, four (4) movements portray imageries in the pepatah, three (3) movements portray imageries in the meaning, and two (2) movements portray imageries in the pepatah and meaning. Razak Abdul Aziz challenges the conventions of programme music by having the pepatah set after the music is written, demanding the performer to read it aloud before performing and having the portrayal of the pepatah in the mentioned ways. This provides a different perspective for other composers to produce works using similar frameworks and scholars to analyse musical works.

Abstract:
This action research was conducted to improve the mastery of proverbs in the Malay language subject for 3 Level Two primary school students through the JUPERMA 1.0 game.

Abstract:
This study discusses the exploration of the values of courtesy and morality embedded in Malay poetry. These values are intricately crafted using metaphors or direct expressions, coupled with the fusion of natural elements and positive values that depict the culture of the Malay society. Forms of Malay poetry, such as pantun, for instance, serve as expressions of advice and guidance that shape the identity of the community during that particular period. Meanwhile, Malay proverbs and sayings contain wisdom and past experiences, serving as practical guidance in facing situations, enriching the language, while preserving cultural values. There are also Malay poems that convey implicit language structures and deliver subtle meanings, such as gurindam. Poetic forms like gurindam are often depicted in rhetorical language structures through expressions of deep emotions and feelings, simultaneously fostering noble characteristics and high morality as a virtuous and humble individual. This study employs a qualitative method that focuses on a profound understanding of the phenomena and meanings behind the values and characters present in Malay poetry. Data is collected through observation and text analysis to identify and analyse patterns of cultural values in Malay literary poetry. Consequently, the results of this study can illustrate the role of Malay poetry in shaping the values and character of an outstanding society. In other words, Malay poetry contributes to a high civilization and serves as a guide, especially for the current generation facing challenges of modernity and globalization.

Pantang larang is a tradition that contains various rules of life and prohibitions for the Sekadau Malay community. The existence of the abstinence and prohibition tradition is an ancestral heritage that is maintained to this day, although its existence is starting to wane along with the development and dynamics of the times. The existence of the abstinence and prohibition tradition can ideally be a reminder of the importance of understanding normative values and beliefs in things other than humans so that prohibitions or taboos emerge in the abstinence and prohibition tradition. The abstinence and prohibition tradition plays a key role in the lives of the Sekadau Malay people as a guide in living life, as a means to remind each other, and to encourage change for the next generation. The adage in the abstinence and prohibition tradition consists of 5 types of classification relating to time, place, gender, safety of life, and human activity/behavior. From the sentence structure, proverbs in the pantang larang tradition have 2 types, namely proverbs with 2 structures (cause and effect), and proverbs with 3 structures (signs, changes that occur, and consequences).

Abstract:

Abstract:
Criticisms in traditional Malay works are produced in various forms, and usually, the criticisms are not conveyed in an explicit or blunt manner. Therefore, the language used to convey the criticisms is figurative language filled with similes and metaphors. These forms of criticisms can be observed in proverbs, pantuns, and other forms of poems, songs, tales of humour and of animals, folktales, sagas, and historical literature. Social criticisms through metaphorical elements in poems are able to depict the wisdom of the Malays in the times of old. This paper aims to identify the metaphorical elements found in pantuns and analyse the social criticisms and values in them based on the Relevance theory. It will see how metaphors in pantuns play the role of social critics. Data used for this study is from a book by Tenas Effendy (2004) titled Tunjuk Ajar Dalam Pantun Melayu, published in Yogyakarta by Balai Kajian dan Pengembangan Budaya Melayu. This study will apply the Relevance theory, where this theory emphasises the processing of information and is able to assist readers to understand the metaphorical elements that are scientifically represented. Thus, social criticisms that exist in traditional Malays pantuns are not only for entertainment purposes but also carry a far deeper meaning. Pantuns have metaphorical elements where they are able to create cynical and sharp criticisms.

Abstract: Images of reptile animals are often debated in various fields such as science, education and their use in proverbs of Malay idioms and Iban idioms. Observation of the characteristics of animals in these classes makes the Iban community more sensitive toward their surroundings. In the Iban idioms, the images of reptiles used are due to the inherent properties of the animals that are equated or reflected in the nature and actions of men in the past. A total of 15 Iban idioms using images of reptiles were generated from Bup Sempama Iban, a book written by Casper Kayong Umping (2011).. The proverbs data were analyzed using the Semantic Inquisitive Approach by applying the Bridging Cross Reference toward the corpus data. Based on the analysis, the proverbs using the images of reptiles show the traits possessed by humans and they are conveyed by the use of proverbs (Sempama Jaku Iban) with implied meanings and subtle language to keep the recipient's heart or listeners. The merging of data, the applied theory, and the culture applied in this study has successfully explained the implicit meaning behind the Iban idioms and the reflection of the minds of the speakers. Abstract:
In the context of the teaching of the Malay Language, the success in implementing higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) is highly dependant upon the ability of the teachers to immerse the skills while teaching the language under typical classroom settings. The mastery of aspects of any given language, like vocabulary, spelling, structure, proficiency, variety, level, and articulation, enables students to form ideas in very clear and precise ways that later get translated into writings that are succinct and lucid. Teachers are therefore responsible in emphasizing and ensuring that students understand a given language well while learning in class, and particularly when they write essays. The purpose of this study is to get a holistic insight into how the processes of teaching and learning are carried out based on HOTS in argumentative essay writing. This study employs a qualitative case study design with voluntary participation from two participants. The research was conducted at a boarding school in Selangor. Three data collection techniques were used in this study, namely, in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis of the argumentative essays written by the students. Research findings revealed that the teachers have adopted a teaching and learning method using figuratives, proverbs, and words of wisdom as one of the strategies to help students develop their higer order thinking skills in argumentative essay writing.

Abstract:
Background and Purpose: The development of scholarship on Malaysian Literature in English (MLiE) continuously receives attention, especially on one particular direction, which is the studies of the Malays. Inspired by the Malay proverb “Diluah mati mak, ditelan mati bapa” (Malay for ‘between the devil and the deep sea), this study looked into local literature in relation to powerlessness and its social complexity where we argue that the Malays are often caught in-between entanglements that prohibit individualism, as due to societal prejudice. Methodology: This study employed thematic analysis where upon familiarizing with Azhari’s short stories, namely Mariah and of Bunga Telur and Bally shoes, the researchers identified themes that help understand the types and causes of powerlessness as illustrated in the short stories before associating the Malays’ state of powerlessness and their emotional suppression. Findings: Findings revealed that both genders suffer from the Malay prejudice and their own lack of emotional strength, causing both to be powerless captives in different contexts, unlike the Western societies where similar situations might lead to alienation. Contributions: The study contributed towards the understanding of social phenomenon, namely issues regarding powerlessness among the Malays. Such contribution is significant at developing potentials within building national talent, especially those regarding family and spiritual values. Ardiansyah, Ogie, and Masrokhin Masrokhin. "The Tradition of Tepuk Tepung Tawar in Malay Weddings from the Perspective of Islamic Law: A Case Study at Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands." El-Usrah: Jurnal Hukum Keluarga 6, no. 2 (December 30, 2023): 399. http://dx.doi.org/10.22373/ujhk.v6i2.5391.

Abstract:
Tepuk Tepung Tawar is a ritual in the Malay wedding ceremony, especially in Kampung Melayu of Kota Tanjungpinang Subdistrict. This tradition is also carried out for children who have completed their Qur’an recitation, with prayers for their safety, well-being, and protection from hardship in life. This present study used a sociological method, in which data were analyzed by using the theory of ‘urf (social custom) in Islamic law. Data were collected by means of interview and document study. This study revealed that historically, the tepung tawarceremony for newlyweds would be carried out alternately for each, considering that they have not yet had mahar batih (not yet consummated), while the tepung tawar ceremony for both would be carried out for longtime married couples. The Malay people are very strong in observing their customs and traditions; even giving rise to the Malay proverb “biar mati anak dari pada mati adat”, better for a child to die than for a custom to die. This proverb illustrates how deeply the Malay people are in upholding the customs and traditions of their ancestors. Theoretically, there is also harmony between Islamic law and ‘urf or social custom in Malay weddings.

Abstract:
Abstract Proverbs discusses issues that are relevant to everyone wherever they are. This book discusses horizontal issues regarding human relationships with each other. One issue that is quite important is laziness which has become a comprehensive problem in human life today. No previous research has conducted a biblical study regarding laziness from the perspective of the book of Proverbs. This research tries to answer the problem of how Proverbs views laziness. Through literature study using thematic interpretation of Proverbs, an assessment of lazy attitudes based on this book was produced: this attitude will not bring any benefits at all. For those who expect satisfactory results from lazy people, it will definitely result in disappointment. Laziness will give birth to forced labor, you will not succeed in everything you do, you will become the brother of the destroyer, you will starve, you will never reap, and you will not get anything in your life. The lazy person's life will ultimately be killed by his desires. The Book of Proverbs gives advice to lazy people so that they continue to learn from ants in terms of discipline. Even though ants are weak animals, they are famous for their craft. In the end, discipline is an effective medicine for all lazy attitudes that arise in the lives of believers in all places and times. Keywords: Lazy, Point of View, Proverbs Abstrak Kitab Amsal membicarakan topik-topik persoalan yang relevan dengan semua orang dimanapun mereka berada.

Abstract:
"Adat bersendikan syarak, syarak bersendikan kitabullah" (Adat is based on sharia, and sharia is based on kitabullah) is a Malay proverb that expresses the close relationship between tradition and religion. This motto may also be seen in their marriage processions, which include merisik, meminang, tepuk tepung tawar, and a variety of others. In addition to adat and Islamic law, state law plays an important part in the Malay marriage process. The purpose of this study is to see these three orderings which exist in the Malay wedding procession in Pekanbaru, Riau. This article contends that each of these three systems when viewed from a non-conflictual standpoint, has its own role in the Malay marriage procession. The validity of the marriage is determined in part by Islamic law. Adat, or customary law, is used to control the flow of the wedding procession. In the meantime, state law serves as the marriage procession's administrator.

Abstract:
Television is a popular medium that is used as a propaganda tool in spreading ideologies. As such, the continuous propagation of ideologies through television fiddles with the sentiment of the public over time. This is obvious through various media campaigns that was broadcasted through television during the 14th general election of Malaysia in 2018. These media campaigns propagate the idea of ‘change’ by presenting audio-visual information that instigates a euphoric reaction. ‘Beauty (fool) of destruction’ is an experimental video art prompted by such propagation and its effect on society. This essay discusses the creation of the video work and its adaptation of the Malay proverb ‘Indah Khabar dari Rupa’ as a reaction to the political campaigns of the 14th general election. Specifically, it examines video as an avenue for responding towards the wield of ideology on electronic media and as a medium of expression for new forms of art making

Abstract:
Law Number 1 of 2011 in Article 98 paragraph (3) concerning Housing and Settlements, it is explained that the regional government has the authority to conduct arrangements and determine the location of slum housings and urban slums. This is what underlies the Regional Government of Siak Regency to have a role in identifying various local wisdoms in its region. The existence of the local wisdom of the indigenous people of Siak can be viewed from the legal aspect of structuring the location of housing and slums as mandated by legislation and implemented in the Letter Regent Decree Number 523/HK/KPTS/2014 concerning Determination of Slum and Slum Housing Locations in Siak Regency and Regent Decree Number 302/HK/KPTS/2017 concerning Slum and Slum Residential Housing Locations in Siak Regency. The result is the existence of the local wisdom of Indigenous people of Kampung Buatan II, Koto Ghasib Subdistrict did not work optimally, because it had not maximized the role of the Riau Malay Customary Institution in Siak Regency. However, the noble values of local wisdom in Malay indigenous communities in structuring the location of housing and slums are known from their ancestors expressed in a proverb or customary expression in preserving nature around us to create a clean, healthy life by understanding the meaning of development, understanding the ins and outs of religion and culture and the social norms of the people, so that development is truly beneficial for all levels of society.
