Abstract:
In 2003, English for Teaching of Mathematics and Science policy was implemented in Malaysia, requiring teachers to teach these subjects in English through primary to tertiary education. However, this policy was abolished in 2011, leaving schools to decide for themselves the medium of instruction (MOI) for these subjects during the soft-landing period. By 2022, all primary and secondary education is expected to complete the reversion of MOI to Malay. However, this is not applicable to both pre-university and tertiary education where students will continue to learn Mathematics and Science in Eng

In Malaysia, ethnic and cultural tension and conflicts have escalated in the past 5 years bringing undesirable impacts on the nation’s economy and, most importantly, on inter-ethnic relationships. In line with the government’s 1Malaysia effort to produce a more integrated society, this study proposes the need to construct a shared Malaysian identity, starting from the classroom, which is facilitated by teachers through the use of Malaysian short stories. This proposition, amidst the differences in cultural, religious and beliefs systems, aims to close the ethnic and cultural divide and cultiva

This case study explored the revision strategies of four Malaysian native speakers of English when they composed aloud while writing an argumentative essay. Think aloud verbal protocols were analysed using the grounded theory approach in conjunction with written texts. The findings suggest that contextual factors influenced classroom practices. Abstract:
In 2011, a curricular reform of primary education in Malaysia known as the Standard Curriculum for Primary Schools (SCPS) was implemented for all taught subjects including English. The aim of the English language curriculum reform was to place great emphasis on the development of student communicative competence through interactive, learner-centred teaching approaches.
