Abstract:
AbstractThe genus Argiope Audouin, 1826 (Araneae: Araneidae) is revised for Africa, including neighboring islands and Arabia. Thirteen species are recognized as distinct. Eight of these are redescribed: A. aurocincta Pocock, 1898, A. australis (Walckenaer, 1805), A. bruennichii (Scopoli, 1772), A. coquerelii (Vinson, 1863), A. flavipalpis (Lucas, 1858), A. lobata (Pallas, 1772), A. sector (ForskÅl, 1775), A. trifasciata (ForskÅl, 1775); five species: A. anomalopalpis (generic placement uncertain!), A. comorica, A. tapinolobata, A. levii, and A. ranomafanensis are described as new. During meiosis, homologous chromosomes undergo synapsis and recombination. We identify TEX15 as a novel protein that is required for chromosomal synapsis and meiotic recombination. Loss of TEX15 function in mice causes early meiotic arrest in males but not in females. Specifically, TEX15-deficient spermatocytes exhibit a failure in chromosomal synapsis. In mutant spermatocytes, DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) are formed, but localization of the recombination proteins RAD51 and DMC1 to meiotic chromosomes is severely impaired. Based on these data, we propose that TEX15 regulates the loading of

Brucella canis infection is a neglected zoonotic disease and its seroprevalence in dogs and at-risk humans has not been previously studied in several countries including Jordan. The main aim of this study was to determine the seroprevalence and identify risk factors of B. canis infection in police, breeding and stray dogs and in at-risk humans in Jordan. A total of 169 sera samples from apparently healthy dogs and 185 samples from apparently healthy people (85 from dog handlers and 100 from the general population) were tested in the study. The present study evaluated the demographics and knowledge of the dog owners regarding the importance of dog spaying/neutering and animal welfare in Afyonkarahisar Province. Therefore, the original questionnaires were prepared to evaluate the knowledge of dog owners/caretakers about dog reproduction, spaying of dogs, and stray animal welfare. The mean age of participants was 33, and 51.8% of responders were female and 48.2% were male. Most of the dogs (83.7%) were not spayed/neutered and spaying/neutering age was ≥ 2 years. A P-element insertion flanked by 13 restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) marker sites was used to examine male recombination and gene conversion at an autosomal site. The great majority of crossovers on chromosome arm 2R occurred within the 4-kb region containing the P element and RFLP sites. Of the 128 recombinants analyzed, approximately two-thirds carried duplications or deletions flanking the P element. These rearrangements are described in more detail in the accompanying report. Several studies indicate that acute exercise induces DNA damage, whereas regular exercise increases DNA repair kinetics. Although the molecular mechanisms are not completely understood, the induction of endogenous reactive oxygen species (ROS) during acute exhaustive exercise due to metabolic processes might be responsible for the observed DNA damage, while an adaptive increase in antioxidant capacity due to regular physical activity seems to play an important protective role. However, the protective effect of physical activity on exogenously induced DNA damage in human immune cells has been p

Malo detaljnija analiza, međutim, pokazuje nam da su to dve strane iste medalje, lice i naličje jedne vrednosti. X (inactive)-specific transcript (XIST) has been known as long noncoding RNA, which regulates X-chromosome inactivation in female mammals to provide dosage equivalence between male and females. To determine the coding region of XIST in pigs, we examined candidate XIST coding region using BLAST, PCR, and sequencing techniques. DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) are considered the most severe type of DNA lesions, because such lesions, if unrepaired, lead to a loss of genome integrity. Soon after induction of DSBs, chromatin surrounding the damage is modified by phosphorylation of the histone variant H2AX, generating so-called γH2AX, which is a hallmark of DSBs (Takahashi et al. 2005 Cancer Lett. 229, 171–179). γH2AX appears to be a signal for the recruitment of proteins constituting the DNA repair machinery. Depending on the type of damage and the cell cycle stage of the affected cell, DSBs are repaired either by nonhom

Importantly, it is a component in Holliday junction homologous recombination (HR) where it interacts with other proteins to repair double strand breaks (DSB). With respect to male behaviour, explanations of marriage fall into two major schools of thought. One holds that marriage facilitates a sexual division of labour and paternal investment, both important to the rearing of offspring that are born helpless and remain dependent for remarkably long periods (provisioning model).
