Abstract:
Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) is a curative option for specific non-malignant disorders in childhood, including hemoglobinopathies and primary immune deficiencies. Despite promising results in the recent years, many issues regarding timing of HSCT, donor selection, conditioning regimen and post-transplant care are currently open. Here, a cohort of 11 patients with Sickle Cell Disease transplanted after a Treosulfan-based conditioning regimen is described showing that this approach is suitable also when alternative donors are employed. Abstract Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are the zinc-dependent endopeptidases which belong to a large family of proteases. MMPs are responsible for degradation and remodeling of extracellular matrix proteins during growth, organogenesis and tissue turnover. Besides their role in physiological processes, MMPs also influence various pathological processes, i.e., inflammatory diseases and cancers, in which MMPs may ultimately lead to unwanted tissue destruction. One of the most widely studied MMPs is MMP-8. MMP-8 was previously thought to be expressed only by neutrophils. Presently, it is evide

Childhood immunization has been one of the most important public health measures in the 20th century. In the United States, 95% of avoidable childhood diseases have been prevented through vaccinations. However, there have been growing concerns around the safety of vaccines, and this increased uncertainty has led to decreases in vaccination participation and increases in cases of preventable diseases. As such, is it important to understand why parents are not vaccinating their children. A qualitative approach was utilized to conduct this study. Flyers to recruit participants were distributed by
