The genus Nothopleurus Lacordaire is reviewed and generic limits redefined. Two species are transferred from Nothopleurus to Olethrius Lacordaire and the following new combinations are proposed: Olethrius cariosicollis (Fairmaire), Olethrius macrothorax (Montrouzier). Nothopleurus arabicus (Buquet) is transferred from Nothopleurus and returned to its original genus as Mallodon arabicum. Mallodon castaneum (Casey) is revalidated in Nothopleurus. The status of the two specimens of Prioninae seen on Merian’s plate 24 (1705) is discussed, and considered as being Mallodon spinibarbis (Linnaeus, 1758). Prionus similis Schönherr (1817) is revalidated and placed in incertae sedis in Prioninae. Abstract:

A new genus of Macrotomini (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae, Prioninae). <em>Allomallodon</em> <strong>gen. n.</strong> is erected to accommodate <em>Mallodon hermaphroditum</em> Thomson, 1867, and <em>M. popelairei</em> Lameere, 1902. The assignment of this new genus to Macrotomini, and the validity of Mallodontini are discussed. As result, Mallodontini is considered a synonym of Macrotomini. A key to species of the new genus is included as well.

Four specimens of Mallodon spinibarbis (Linnaeus, 1758) (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) was collected in a tamarind tree (Tamarindus indica L.), in Sorocaba, São Paulo, Brazil, and one of them carried under its elytra four Lustrochernes sp. (Pseudoscorpiones: Chernetidae). Among 26 species of this pseudoscorpions' genus in the world, seven are reported in Brazil, and their occurrence is mentioned only in a few states.
