Abstract:
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was a staunch advocate for nature cure. He promoted the use of earth, air, sunlight, water and diet not only to treat medical problems but also as an integral feature of a programme for comprehensive public health reform. As such, Gandhi conceptualised healthcare as an encompassing, biomoral project designed to produce Swaraj in the broadest sense of the term. Nature cure was, in other words, fundamental to sarvodaya as a form of praxis. This essay focusses on Gandhi’s establishment of Nisargopchar, a nature cure ashram in the Uruli Kanchan village, and the conceptua

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is still a serious problem for global health; however, new antibiotic research is lagging behind AMR. There are dangers associated with bacterial biofilms in hospitals, restaurants, and water treatment plants. Several medicinal herbs are utilized ethnomedically in India to cure infectious diseases. However, apart from the conventional inhibitory effects on cell development, little is known about the possible anti-biofilm action of medicinal herbs, which may help in the prevention of bacterial infection. Here, we investigated the in vitro anti-biofilm activity of

These attacks were so severe that from May 1846 to March 1847 she left her husband and their three young children in Cincinnati for Dr. Wesselhoeft’s Hydropathic Institute, a fashionable water-cure establishment in Brattleboro, Vermont, recommended to her by her sister Catharine Beecher.1 The illness from which Stowe suffered in the 1840s may have, in part, dictated her choice of the subject matter for Uncle Tom’s Cabin (
