Abstract:
The tasks given to management are becoming more demanding every day, requiring new knowledge and skills. Drucker's famous management by objectives has survived, but its essence is changing and adapting to new knowledge determined by the needs of management. In this context, the research question is how to activate management by objectives and how best to reach management by motivation and ultimately to achieve the managerial goal. In line with the problem, this research focuses on the controlling approach when building the steps that are necessary to achieve the results. At the same time, controlling, as a key function of management, together with planning, shapes the goals that the other two functions of leadership and directing lead towards organizing, thus completing the operation of the management functions. Deyhle developed the combination of controlling and planning, which includes target decision-making, into a management by ... system, which leads step by step to the goal. The methodological approach to this research and the explanation of the entire system, called the WEG system, includes various methods, among which the desk research method, which combines Drucker's and Deyhle's approach to management, stands out. The WEG system as a goal-oriented system, at least for Croatian management, is a new knowledge that is presented in this research in an easily applicable form. Through the presentation of the steps of the WEG system, planning together with directing and organizing lead from management by objectives to a result that represents the goals of management, which is also the expected result of this research.

Abstract:
Purpose This study examined the actual productive hours of employees from the service sector in Ghana. Design/methodology/approach This study adopted an exploratory cross-sectional survey design. The purposive and convenience sampling techniques were used to identify the service organizations and recruited 520 employees in Accra for the study. Specifically, these respondents were workers from banks, insurance companies, auditing firms and oil and gas companies. The data were analyzed using frequencies and other descriptive statistics. Findings Results showed poor time management among the study organizations. It was reported that although most workers report to work as early as 6:30 a.m., they wait until 8:30 a.m. to commence the day’s work schedule. In addition, they start thinking of break at least 15 min before actual break time which decreases productivity. In addition, employees reported spending at least 30 min on break. They also added that, they start clearing the desks about 15 min before actual closing time and leave the office at exactly 5:00 p.m. Practical Implications This study shows that the physical presence of workers does not necessarily mean they are working. The study proposes an alternative way to increase productivity rather than relying on physical presence of the workers. Originality/value This study is among the few that empirically sought to explore the actual time that workers use in a day at work. Thus, it measured actual productive hours at of service employees in Ghana.

Stredwick, John. "Performance pay : objectives, operation and outcomes." Thesis, University of Bedfordshire, 2003. http://hdl.handle.net/10547/322884.

Abstract:
Performance pay has been identified as a key element of modem human resource strategy but published field research has been limited. This thesis investigated the objectives, methods of operation and outcomes of several performance pay schemes through the creation and testing of several hypotheses. Evidence was gathered through a longitudinal study in one organisation augmented by case studies in two further organisations. The findings showed that organisations demonstrated a mix ofoperational and cultural objectives for introducing performance pay while the desired outcomes were to promote cultural change, internal equity and increased motivation. However, the findings from the longitudinal survey showed that the desired outcomes were not met, as viewed by the employees. Motivation was not increased, nor did the scheme help to change culture while pay satisfaction remained at a low level, although the employee response to the scheme showed a limited improvement after operating for one year. Positive employee viewpoints were highly correlated to the level of communication and satisfaction with pay. In terms of the influence of employee characteristics, women and non-union members were significantly more positive than men and union members. A cluster analysis showed that negative views were more strongly held than positive views which statistically influenced the outcomes and employees with such negative views had a 'bundle' of characteristics, namely middle grade males with long service and union membership. This research has made a number of contributions. It has added to the limited number of UK field studies and its longitudinal nature provides unique fmdings. It has provided data on the launch and initial period of operation ofa perfonnance pay scheme, as perceived by the employees. It has shown further evidence of strategic use of performance pay schemes with a newly constructed model. The findings have important implications for management, especially in relation to the identification of key supporter groups and opponents to the scheme and the issues that employees regard as key to the success of the scheme.

Abstract:
Information is a significant asset to organizations, and a data breach from a cyberattack harms reputations and may result in a massive financial loss. Many senior managers lack the competencies to implement an enterprise risk management system and align organizational resources such as people, processes, and technology to prevent cyberattacks on enterprise assets. The purpose of this Delphi study was to explore how the managerial competencies for information security and risk management senior managers help in managing security objectives and practices to mitigate security risks. The National Institute of Standards and Technology framework served as the foundation for this study. The sample was made up of 12 information security practitioners, information security experts, and managers responsible for the enterprise information security management. Participants were from Fortune 500 companies in the United States. Selection was based on their level of experience and knowledge of the topic being studied. Data were collected using a 3 round Delphi study of 12 experts in information security and risk management. Statistical analysis was performed on the collected data during a 3 round Delphi study. The mean, standard deviation, majority agreement, and ranges were used to determine the final concensus for this research study. Findings of this study included the need for managerial support, risk management strategies, and developling the managerial and technical talent to mitigate and respond to cyberattacks. Findings may result in a positive social change by providing information that helps managers to reduce the number of data breaches from cyberattacks, which benefits companies, employees, and customers.

Liu, Wei-Chung. "Development of a strategically driven production facilities management (PFM) framework." Thesis, Cranfield University, 2000. http://dspace.lib.cranfield.ac.uk/handle/1826/3647.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis presents the results of a programme of research into the development and evaluation of a strategically driven Production Facilities Management (PFM) framework. PFM is the activity of managing production facilities to fully realise the corporate strategic objectives of a manufacturing organisation. Companies with strategies tend to be more successful than companies without them. The concept of manufacturing strategy is an approach to enhance the consistency between the manufacturing function and the direction of the organisation. Consequentially, PFM is the means to ensure these strategic requirements can be fully realised from the facilities management viewpoint. Through the literature review, it was seen that there is a lack of a link between manufacturing strategy and the management of production facilities. From questionnaire surveys and interviews at companies in the manufacturing sector, it was found that the issue of linking facilities management with corporate strategy has been ignored. Therefore, this programme of research not only investigates the context and contents in formulating an appropriate manufacturing strategy in a manufacturing environment but also reviews the most popular methods in relation to maintenance management and performance assessment of the facilities. This programme describes the development of a strategically driven, step-by-step approach that helps a company to capture the strategic requirements of the manufacturing function, measure the performance of existing production facilities and supports the decision-making analysis tasks. The primary contribution of the work presented in this thesis was the development of an implementation framework and an associated implementation workbook which comprise a set of stages and implementation sections that a user can use to carry out the process of capturing the strategic requirements and realise them with support from an appropriate PFM framework and a systematic, step-by-step implementation process.
