Modern network-based flight test systems utilize large numbers of devices including high-speed network switches, data acquisition devices, recorders, and telemetry interfaces, all of which must be managed in a coordinated fashion. The move to network-based testing provides the ability to build a standards-based System Management interface which can status and control a diverse set of devices. The benefits include the ability to easily tailor System Management tools to support many different styles of user interactions and to quickly integrate new types of devices. While the new capabilities presented by System Management are exciting, the very openness of the system presents challenges to ensure that future growth will be seamlessly supported. This paper will discuss issues encountered while implementing flight test System Management tools for a network-based telemetry system.

<p> The purpose of this project is to study and analyze the Server Management System (SMS) which is a significant and dominating factor in most modern networks and servers that are developed today. Modern day servers and the optimized utilities they offer may have major drawbacks, which can lead to network failure if left unmanaged. They require essential aspects like managing and monitoring. Apart from being able to fullfil high end services, maintenance is still a key. SMS is significant because modern day networks require constant supervision and monitoring. It can be very crucial to a small business or enterprise environment to monitor their servers on a regular basis ensuring that this communication loss does not occur. SMS monitor application servers alert a user for failing components and notify the respective administrator. Monitoring specification for user&rsquo;s application servers are provided by the user. SMS pings the user&rsquo;s server and also provides an interface for the user to check the status of servers, irrespective of whether they are active or not. While updating the status of individual application servers, if the SMS sees that the status is inactive, a component of the system will try to restart the server and generate another component to analyze and notify the user about the cause for the failure of the individual application server via mail or messages. In this case, SMS helps the user to monitor their application server and save communication loss by rebooting application servers. Available tools for monitoring application servers cannot be customized according to user requirement. For example, they are not able to check server the status every second, cannot reboot the server, and cannot optimize resources on the server. The SMS uses Event Based Architecture (EBA) which makes it optimized. Implementation of EBA provides customization in SMS. The SMS involves many components that constantly monitor the system. Each component plays a major role in the SMS architecture and provides a real-time monitoring solution for application servers. </p>

RESTful web services are one way of providing interoperability between computer systems on the internet. REST-compliant web services allow requesting systems to access and manipulate textual representations of web resources using a uniform and predefined set of stateless operations. These services, which are online APIs, can be accessed from various applications and the results can be used to offer specific functionality to users. This project consists of an Android app, a Server application and a Client application. The Server application exposes a REST API (Web Services developed using REpresentational State Transfer (REST) protocol) using, which the consuming client applications can make use of various functionalities as services across the network. The Android app would be installed in the smart phone present in each vehicle of the fleet, this app would send live location data to the database using the REST API. The manager uses the client application to track the vehicles in real time, the manager can also choose to track a particular vehicle. The API could also be used to integrate the services with other systems. This project serves to a wide variety of users, from small local businesses owning tens or hundreds of vehicle to parents who would like to track the location of their children in real time. This project aims to help the managers/owners better control and track the vehicles. Also, the exposed API could be used by other developers to customize or extend this application. This project is easy to install, use and hence friendly for users with even minimal computer skills.

This project updated the California State University, San Bernardino's Office of Technology Transfer and Commercialization's Solicitation Management System (SMS) software, used to facilitate the processing of grant proposal solicitations. The SMS software update improved the interface so that it is more user-friendly, increased the processing speed, and added additional functions necessary to comply with new requirements. The software was rewritten using the Spring and Hibernate frameworks.

<p>In this thesis have an implementation of a maintenance program called Computerized Maintenance Management System that has been developed together with the personal from SKF. The work has been conducted for 10 weeks at Sapa Thermal Heat Transfer (Shanghai) Ltd on the maintenance department. Sapa manufacture, sell and deliver to the automobile market. The goal has been to understand and learn how to use the new computer system CMMS. It shall help Sapa to save on doing unnecessary maintenance and make it easier to order spare part, scheduled maintenance and to see the problems and the solution the problems in the CMMS database. My report is limited to parts of the CMMS. The edge guides critical points that are the position transducer and the vertical roller bearing. I describe the failures that can occur and recommend some solutions to the problems. With the creation of different concepts, explanations are given to guide you to the right solution. I give a short introduction to the current maintenance in Sapa and how to update the database through the creating of a user manual directed to Sapa. Interviews have been conducted at Sapa maintenance department with SKF and API Pro personal. The biggest helping tool has been from the CMMS there I have been able to read about current problems with the edge guide. Fact has also been taken from the Internet and material provided by Sapa The report shows a few recommendations and helping tools for how to continue the update in the CMMS for the new hot mill. Optimize the maintenance to the smallest component with the goal of saving money and production time. The reason is that CMMS shall contribute to manage the maintenance so much that the machine should have availability above 90 percent.</p>

To guarantee the immediate and instant delivery of money transaction, it is essential to have a system that manages clients, agents and managers in one place. The objective of this project has been to study and develop an online remittance management system for a small business, that contains features to manage admins, agents, senders and beneficiarieswith different access level. The project user interface designed using bootstrap library and implemented on a popular PHP framework, Laravel. While the purpose of the project is to develop the system “Money Transfer Management System”, the evaluation process carried out based on user's privacy and security, functionality and usability test. The method used to solve the problem is the study and investigation of an initial set of requirement to identify the problem, application solution approach to divide the project into sub tasks, and application evaluation process to test and propose the result. On the other of technical side, object oriented programing technique in PHP, MySQL relational database, HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript libraries used to solve the problem. The user of the system is able to create transactions with a unique reference id, pay out, cancel, edit and mange users data. The result of the study showed that, the system is secure against any injection or mass assignment attack.

The growth of network and distributed technologies in flight test instrumentation (FTI) has provided the benefits of flexibility, scalability, and compatibility with prevalent computing capabilities. However, to achieve these capabilities, the complexity of each piece of FTI and the overall system has increased dramatically. Even with systems composed of equipment from a single vendor, it is important to have management systems that provide the flexibility to adapt quickly to various system configurations and present unified information to the flight test users. The growth of network technologies and then standardized approaches such as iNET standards becoming accepted IRIG 106 standards is leading to the growth of multi-vendor systems. These multi-vendor systems further increase the need for rapidly reconfigurable management systems. This paper describes a constraints engine we have developed to enable flexible system management systems and reflects on how these techniques have been used successfully in the iNET System Manager.

With Chiptech’s current growth rate and size it has become necessary to develop a Quality Management System to enable repeatability, meet customer demands, and protect Chiptech from staff turnover. ISO 9001 was identified as a base for development, with the imperative that the system identified and developed must deliver value for Chiptech. Several frameworks were investigated, along with journal articles and discussions with industry members in order to determine the aspects that would deliver value, and determine the key success factors. Two factors were identified as critical: employee involvement, and the utilisation of metrics – both of which were leveraged for the project results and recommendations. The systems developed have already proved they offer benefits, however, in order to maintain performance Chiptech must a) keep evaluating the measured results, b) ensure that quality forms an integral part of the organisational culture and, c) continue the systematic approach of continual improvement.

As System Management provides the capability for dynamic allocation of resources, it is critical to support the level of network flexibility envisioned by the integrated Network-Enhanced Telemetry (iNET) project. This paper investigates the practical performance of managing the Telemetry Network System (TmNS) using the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). It discusses the impacts and benefits of System Management as the size of the TmNS scales from small to large and as distributed and centralized management styles are applied. To support dynamic network states, it is necessary to be able to both collect the current status of the network and command (or modify the configuration of) the network. The management data needs to travel both ways over the telemetry link (in limited bandwidth) without interfering with critical data streams. It is important that the TmNS's status is collected in a timely manner so that the engineers are aware of any equipment failures or other problems; it is also imperative that System Management does not adversely affect the real-time delivery of data. This paper discusses measurements of SNMP traffic under various loading conditions. Statistics considered will include the performance of SNMP commands, queries, and events under various test article and telemetry network loads and the bandwidth consumed by SNMP commands, queries, and events under various conditions (e.g., pre-configuration, normal operation, and device error).

Noutras palavras, pretende-se fazer a associação entre a ideia geral daquilo que é um projecto e do que é um evento, com o objectivo de se criar um sistema de gestão e planeamento de eventos genéricos com funcionalidades de gestão de projecto integradas, tendo por base um cliente real. Actualmente os sistemas open source não contemplam este tipo de características e não fazem a associação entre evento e projecto, deixando de parte toda a parte de gestão intermédia para se focarem apenas no evento final. Mesmo se nos estivermos a referir aos sistemas comerciais o panorama não é muito diferente.

The work provides theoretical base of project management. It describes the current approach to project management as a combination of multiple processes. The process of risk management is described with special care. It also discuss some of the different approaches to risk management. \\ The work suggests new way of handling risk management, that combines risk management and data mining. Data mining approach is also used to mine quantitative risk values. This approach was successfully implemented and tested. Tests showed that this approach is very useful for omitted risk identification. Unfortunately it is also not recommendable for mining quantitative risk values.

The Rockfall Management System developed for Tennessee DOT (TennRMS)integrates a customized rockfall risk rating system, web-based GIS application, and rockfall database to provide a robust single interface for interacting with rock slope information. The system should prove to be a valuable tool for the proactive management of rock slopes. The most important use of the system will be to identify and prioritizing rock slopes with the greatest potential for rockfall in order to provide decision makers with all the necessary information they need to plan remediation efforts. Over time, TennRMS can be used to track costs and effectiveness of different remediation methods used on problem rock slopes. Three papers have been developed for publication in peer reviewed journals. The papers describe the work done in support of developing Tennessee's Rockfall Management System (TennRMS) and its components. The system can be described by its conceptual framework and actual implemented components. Asset management incorporating risk & decision analysis and knowledge management makes up the conceptual framework. The system components include a field data collection system using PDA's, a rockfall database and a web-based GIS interface. The papers articulate the development and implementation of the various components and to provide a detailed review of rockfall management systems as implemented over the past 15 years.<br>Ph. D.

Professors who manage large classes are unrealistically expected to grade each student fairly and accurately. Even with all of the technological advancements that have occurred in the past thirty years, very little progress has been made in classroom management, and as a result, professors are not equipped with enough tools to successfully manage large class sizes. Because radio frequency identification (RFID) technology is making its way into student issued identification cards, there is an opportunity to use it as a tool to aid professors in the classroom. The focus of this paper is to discover the most effective system that can be implemented as a classroom management instrument. Through multi criteria analysis, several different infrastructures are examined and compared to determine the best alternative. The result of an effective system leads to a reduction in time spent taking attendance, an increase in student performance, an increase in the fairness and accuracy of recording classroom participation, and an enhanced professor-student relationship.

Diplomová práce shrnuje nejdůležitější informace o letectví, jako například základní používané termíny, popis letových fází apod. V této práci je popsán flight management system, jeho funkce a schopnosti vytvořit cenově příznivý a současně absolutně spolehlivý letový plán. V další části práce je nastíněna důležitost předpovědi počasí pro bezpečnou a současně cenově příznivou leteckou dopravu. Tato práce je vytvořena v programu Matlab a všechny bloky jsou naprogramovány jako m-funkce. Důležité části kódu jsou z důvodu názornosti zobrazeny jako vývojové diagramy. Praktická část práce je rozdělena do několika podkapitol, kde každá podkapitola popisuje jeden blok z blokového schématu pro výpočet nejistoty odhadované doby příletu. Současně je zde vysvětlena funkce ostatních bloků pro plánování letu, předpověď počasí, kombinování větrů a výpočet odhadnuté doby příletu a její nejistoty.

Abstract:
In order to achieve accreditation for their services, pathology departments must meet international recognised standards and comply with national guidelines, issued by accrediting bodies such as Clinical Pathology Accreditation (United Kingdom Accreditation Service), the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency and the Human Tissue Authority in United Kingdom. Objectives: An evaluation of existing Quality Management System (QMS) and implementation of a quality standard and a centralised electronic document management software (Q-pulse) in a pathology department of a district hospital. Method: A service evaluation utilising an adapted version of the Context, Input, Process, and Product model, (with the addition of the implementation stage). This consisted of context evaluation (an evaluation of the department’s decentralised QMS), input evaluation (an assessment of the various types of electronic document management system (EDMS), implementation (the implementation of a centralised QMS and EDMS), progress evaluation (monitoring, documentation and assessment of the progress of the QMS) and finally impact evaluation (measuring the impact of the newly implemented system). Data collection included quality audits, non-participant observation and qualitative interviews. The implementation strategies involved technical support training and feedbacks. Results: The implementation of a continuous QMS and EDMS within the department, using the adapted CIPP model, increased the involvement of all staff in quality matters. It enabled the department to improve quality control processes, procedures and performance. Staff and quality teams now meet regularly and multidisciplinary workings groups have been put in place to continual improve the quality matters. The level of compliance and awareness to standards and guidelines has increased through education and training of staff in within the QMS, and there is an increase in top level management involvement in quality activities within the department. As a result of this evidence of compliance, the department’s Quality management system, was accorded, an unconditional accreditation, by the accrediting bodies. (Clinical Pathology Accreditation (United Kingdom Accreditation Service), the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency). Conclusion: The quality management system is functioning in all the departments. All staff involved in the evaluation processes, judged it to be useful for them and the department. Further research is required to establish the longevity of the implemented products and other modules within Q-Pulse.

The purpose of this study is to analyze Volvo CE´s current innovation management strategy and compare it with the European Committee for Standardization´s (CENT/TS) standardized innovation management system. The study can be helpful for the organization to understand the gap between their current management system and the recommendations found in the CEN/TS innovation management system. A qualitative research methodology with a deductive approach combined with action research has been used to answer and fulfill the research question and purpose of this study. Our theoretical framework will introduce the five areas presented in CEN/TS IMS (2013) and describe their content more detailed with help from theoretical frameworks related to these areas. We will also consider other theorist's perspectives and compare their thoughts, description and models with what is been described in the CEN/TS regarding these five areas.Empiricism: Interviews with three of Volvo CE´s innovation coaches has been made to gain an understanding about the current status of the company´s innovation management strategies related to the requirements the five areas mentioned within CEN/TS IMS. In the Analysis section, a gap analysis has been made between Volvo CE´s current innovation management strategies and the requirements of the CEN/TS IMS for each area covered by this study. Overall, we think that Volvo CE have a good potential to develop a fully functional IMS in accordance with the requirements of CEN/TS 16555-1 into their organization with their current innovation management model as a starting point to build upon, and by following the references and recommendations provided by this study, the company has great chances in succeed with this mission

Abstract:
Systems are developed to fulfill certain requirements. Several system design configurations usually can fulfill the technical requirements, but at different equivalent life-cycle costs. The problem is how to manipulate and evaluate different system configurations so that the required system effectiveness can be achieved at a minimum equivalent cost. It is also important to have a good definition of all the major consequences of each design configuration. For each alternative configuration considered, it is useful to know the number of units to deploy, the inventory and other logistic requirements, as well as the sensitivity of the system to changes in input variable values. An intelligent relational database management system is defined to solve the problem described. Table structures are defined to maintain the required data elements and algorithms are constructed to manipulate the data to provide the necessary information. The methodology is as follows: Customer requirements are analyzed in functional terms. Feasible design alternatives are considered and defined as system design configurations. The reliability characteristics of each system configuration are determined, initially from a system-level allocation, and later determined from test and evaluation data. A maintenance analysis is conducted to determine the inventory requirements (using reliability data) and the other logistic requirements for each design configuration. A vector of effectiveness measures can be developed for each customer, depending on objectives, constraints, and risks. These effectiveness measures, consisting of a combination of performance and cost measures, are used to aid in objectively deciding which alternative is preferred. Relationships are defined between the user requirements, the reliability and maintainability of the system, the number of units deployed, the inventory level, and other logistic characteristics of the system. A heuristic procedure is developed to interactively manipulate these parameters to obtain a good solution to the problem with technical performance and cost measures as criteria. Although it is not guaranteed that the optimal solution will be found, a feasible solution close to the optimal will be found. Eventually the user will have, at any time, the ability to change the value of any parameter modeled. The impact on the total system will subsequently be made visible.<br>Master of Science

Two computer simulation models were developed to address harvest system - stand assignment and wood flow variability problems in the southeast United States. The Harvest System Assignment (HSA) model is used to evaluate the impact of a particular stand assignment on harvest system effectiveness and is designed to assist with harvest system assignment decisions. Four general harvesting systems: manual, mechanized, shovel and cut-to-length can be modeled to harvest timber, from standing trees to processed logs loaded on to trucks. Model testing showed that as terrain, tract and system characteristics changed, the effectiveness of each of the four systems varied. The most effective system can be determined for any combination of terrain, tract and system characteristics. The model output shows production potential as well as cost per unit, and identifies the causes and magnitude of inefficiency. The Machine Allocation (MA) model is used to evaluate the potential of a given machine combination and is designed as a research tool to investigate the cause and impact of machine interactions. This model has a defined system structure and can incorporate up to five machines for each of three phases in the harvesting operation: felling, skidding and processing. Particular system configurations can be evaluated and possible improvements to machine combination determined. The HSA model is a widely applicable tool that will be available for industry in the southeastern United States. It has utility for training of personnel and for operational use. The MA model is a detailed tool that will be used in a research capacity to advance harvesting system management.<br>Master of Science

This thesis explores and evaluates a decision support system (DDS) for the management of desalination brine. The rapid uptake of desalination technologies to meet freshwater demands has led to producing a significant quantity of brine, which is a highly saline solution. Currently, the most popular brine management method in Western Australia (WA) is disposal by surface water discharge (into the ocean), deep-well injection or evaporation ponds. Brine disposal isn’t a long-term sustainable option due to the environmental impacts it can cause, such as salinisation. Brine treatment methods that reduce the liquid volume of brine partially or completely brine is still under development or aren’t currently economically viable. The DDS uses two multi-criteria analysis techniques, interval analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) under hybrid information. The use of interval AHP gives decision-makers a reliable method of assigning appropriate weightings to the chosen criteria, using the relative importance between each criterion. The DDS uses TOPSIS to allow for different information types (crisp numbers, interval numbers, fuzzy triangular numbers representing linguistic terms) within the DDS. To showcase the DDS, a case study using 4 emerging brine treatment technologies, membrane distillation (MD), forward osmosis (FO), osmotically-assisted reverse osmosis (OARO) and eutectic freeze crystallisation (EFC) was developed. The results suggest that the most to least appropriate technology are MD. FO, EFC and OARO. Sensitivity analyses using a Monte Carlo simulation determined the influence of varying different criteria weightings on the TOPSIS process. MD was the most dominant appropriate technology with little confusion between FO, which was consistently ranked 2nd. Sensitivity analysis of the entire DDS requires further validation of the interval AHP.

Rail Control Solutions (RCS) is one division of Bombardier Transportation, aimed at optimising flow of trains. OPTIFLO is a new solution package within RCS, providing services and solutions to address challenges in modern railway infrastructures worldwide. Infrastructure Management (IM) Service is a significant sub-module under OPTIFLO, performing monitoring and diagnostic functionalities for each impacted system or component in railway signalling systems to continuously improve safety, reliability and availability. Requirement management is a significant stage while dealing with engineering problems. In this master thesis project, three modules in railway signalling scope are focused, including system level Infrastructure Management, sub-system level Maintenance and Diagnostic Centre (MDC) and sub-system level Remote Sensor Unit (RSU). For each part, requirement managements have been implemented, referring to CENELEC standards where necessary. The work starts with the draft Requirement Specification for IM and then identify the requirements related to diagnostics and performance in each sub-system. Both links between the requirements in different modules and links between the requirements and their test cases are built from the requirement management tool DOORS to realize verification and validation following the system engineering process. This diploma work is concerned with planning and analysing modules of Student-School Relationship Management system (referred to as S-SRM) at universities in the Czech Republic. The goal of this diploma work is to basically devise and afterwards to verify the modules of the S-SRM system from the point of view of their contents and peripherally also its functionality. The part of the goal, that is concerned with the design, is accomplished by the description of the individual modules of the S-SRM system. One part of the goal dealing with the verification of these modules is fulfilled by the means of a research in the group of future users of the S-SRM system (students). This research is realised via the questionnaire on the Internet, and by the means of the comparison of the chosen parts of proposed modules of the S-SRM system with the goals gained in the previous requirements analysis (which means the questionnaire on the Internet). The diploma work is divided into six parts. The first part states the topic. The second part is concerned with the CRM systems (Customer Relationship Management) which are the basis for S-SRM systems. This part is followed by the third section that describes the individual modules of the S-SRM systems, and it also shows the options for its enlargement. The fourth part is dedicated to the questionnaire survey and determination of hypothesis. The analysis of the data gained in the survey is stated in the fifth section that are hypothesis evaluated. In the last, the sixth part, there are inferred the conclusions emerging from the previous parts. The theory of the suggested parts of the modules of the S-SRM system and the practice, the results gained in the previous analysis of the requirements, are compared in this last section. There are two main assets of this diploma work. One of the main assets is the proposal of the modules of the S-SRM itself from the point of view of its content and peripherally its functionality. The second main asset is the realisation of the questionnaire survey and the analysis of the gained data that show the preferences of one group of the users of the S-SRM system, namely the students.

Emergency hospitals will be at their best if the ambulance reaches the site in Golden hour where life of injured persons can be saved. Ambulance uses the road network to reach the accident site. Today there are many GIS based systems being developed for routing of ambulance using GPS and other real-time technologies. These systems are useful and play a major role in solving the routing problem. But now roads are so congested that it difficult for the Ambulance drivers to travel and reach the accident.</p><p>In this thesis present study area is studied and problems faced by emergency service providers on road network are identified. In this thesis GIS/GPS/GSM based prototype system has been developed for routing of ambulance on road network of Hyderabad city (AMS). This prototype is designed such that it finds the accident location on the road network and locates the nearest ambulance to incident site using the real-time technologies (GPS/GSM). AMS creates the fastest route from nearest ambulance to accident site, and from there to nearest hospital. Congestion on roads during peak hours is considered, and the fastest route on both major and minor roads is created.</p><p>In this thesis AMS user interface has been developed using VBA, ArcGIS (network analyst). This Ambulance management system has been developed using software engineering model rapid prototyping model and has been evaluated by GIS users</p>

Energy is a critical resource in all types of computing systems from servers, where energy costs dominate data centre expenses and carbon footprints, to embedded systems, where the system's battery life limits the device's functionality. In their efforts to reduce the energy use of these system's hardware manufacturers have implemented features which allow a reduced energy consumption under software control. This thesis shows that managing these settings is a more complex problem than previously considered. Where much (but not all) of the previous academic research investigates unrealistic scenarios, this thesis presents a solution to managing the power on varying hardware. Instead of making unrealistic assumptions, we extract a model from empirical data and characterise that model. Our models estimate the effect of different power management settings on the behaviour of the hardware platform, taking into account the workload, platform and environmental characteristics, but without any kind of a-priori knowledge of the specific workloads being run. These models encapsulate a system's knowledge of the platform. We also developed a \emph{generalised energy-delay} policy which allows us to quickly express the instantaneous importance of both performance and energy to the system. It allows us to select a power management strategy from a number of options. This thesis shows, by evaluation on a number of platforms, that our implementation, Koala, can accurately meet energy and performance goals. In some cases, our system saves 26\% of the system-level energy required for a task, while losing only 1\% performance. This is nearly 46\% of the dynamic energy. Taking advantage of all energy-saving opportunities requires detailed platform, workload and environmental information. Given this knowledge, we reach the exciting conclusion that near optimal power management is possible on real operating systems, with real platforms and real workloads.

Therefore how to efficiently store, retrieve and modify protein data is becoming a challenging issue that most biological scientists have to face and solve. Traditional data models such as relational database lack of support for complex data types, which is a big issue for protein data application. Hence many scientists switch to the object-oriented databases since object-oriented nature of life science data perfectly matches the architecture of object-oriented databases, but there are still a lot of problems that need to be solved in order to apply OODB methodologies to manage protein data. One major problem is that the general-purpose OODBs do not have any built-in data types for biological research and built-in biological domain-specific functional operations. In this dissertation, we present an application system with built-in data types and built-in biological domain-specific functional operations that extends the Object-Oriented Database (OODB) system by adding domain-specific additional layers Protein-QL, Protein Algebra Architecture and Protein-OODB above OODB to manage protein structure data. This system is composed of three parts: 1) Client API to provide easy usage for different users. 2) Middleware including Protein-QL, Protein Algebra Architecture and Protein-OODB is designed to implement protein domain specific query language and optimize the complex queries, also it capsulates the details of the implementation such that users can easily understand and master Protein-QL. 3) Data Storage is used to store our protein data. This system is for protein domain, but it can be easily extended into other biological domains to build a bio-OODBMS. In this system, protein, primary, secondary, and tertiary structures are defined as internal data types to simplify the queries in Protein-QL such that the domain scientists can easily master the query language and formulate data requests, and EyeDB is used as the underlying OODB to communicate with Protein-OODB. In addition, protein data is usually stored as PDB format and PDB format is old, ambiguous, and inadequate, therefore, PDB data curation will be discussed in detail in the dissertation.

Reservoir systems are subject to several uncertainties that are the result of imperfect knowledge about system behavior and inputs. A major source of uncertainty arises from the inability to predict future inflows. Fortunately, it is often possible to generate probabilistic forecasts of inflow volumes in the form of probability density functions or ensembles. These inflow forecasts can be coupled with stochastic management models to determine reservoir release policies and provide stakeholders with meaningful information of upcoming system responses such as reservoir levels, releases, flood damage risks, hydropower production, water supply withdrawals, water quality conditions, navigation opportunities, and environmental flows, among others. This information on anticipated system responses is also expressed in the form of forecasts that must reliably represent the actual system behavior when it eventually occurs. The first part of this study presents an assessment methodology that can be used to determine the consistency of ensemble forecasts through the use of relative frequency histograms and minimum spanning trees (MST). This methodology is then used to assess a management model's ability to produce reliable ensemble forecasts. It was found that neglecting to account for hydrologic state variables and improperly modeling the finite management horizon decrease ensemble consistency. Several extensions to the existing management model are also developed and evaluated. The second portion of this study involves the management of the uncertainties in reservoir systems. Traditional management models only find management policies that optimize the expected values of system benefits or costs, thereby not allowing operators and stakeholders to explicitly explore issues related to uncertainty and risk management. A technique that can be used to derive management policies that produce desired probabilistic distributions of reservoir system outputs reflecting stakeholder preferences is developed. This technique can be embedded in a user-interactive framework that can be employed to evaluate the trade-offs and build consensus in multi-objective and multi-stakeholder systems. The methods developed in this dissertation are illustrated in case studies of real reservoir systems, including a seven-reservoir, multi-objective system in California's Central Valley.

The SKMS, by following five fundamentals (<i>model, enaction, autopoiesis, atomicity</i> and <i>multidisciplinarity</i>), takes information and sends it through four macro-processes: <i>Diagnosis, Prognosis, Solution,</i> and <i>Knowledge</i>, in order to transform information into knowledge. Furthermore, the SKMS allows building the fingerprints (i.e., the Decisional DNA) of an organization by implementing a model for transforming information into knowledge. Moreover, the SKMS can collect experience in any field as a non-domain-dependent technology for decision-making. It supports knowledge creation and independent decisions in the way expected by decision-makers and organizations. Additionally, different technologies applied in the Platform offer dissimilar perspectives producing this holistic hybrid SKMS. Technologies such as expert systems, simulation and statistical tools, knowledge-based systems, and multiple AI technologies are integrated into the SKMS allowing the combination of different perspectives for acquiring the required explicit experiential knowledge. Once the experience is acquired, technologies such as data mining and rule-based systems allow analysis and knowledge discovery within the stored knowledge while permitting extending even more holistic perspectives of the Platform. In addition, the SKMS can be integrated into a community of practice regarded the e-decisional community, where decisional experiential knowledge can be shared and distributed among different technologies. This attribute is achieved by implementing an Ontology for experiential knowledge. Finally, the Platform liberates decision makers from some simple tasks, allowing them to concentrate on other more complicated matters related to strategic dimensions of organizations, while storing decisional experience in the form of Decisional DNA.

It would be beneficial to apply GIS service to traditional bus systems. In this thesis, a bus service system is proposed for rescuing broken down buses efficiently. The service systems uses Hun-garian and Monte-Carlo Tree Search algorithm to arrange the lowest cost dispatching when out-of-control occurred to a bus, where the bus detector would send the geo-graphic data and the causalities of bus malfunction to server. In addition to the dis-patching service also provides passenger traveling information, including points of interesting and shopping discounts in this system. Users can use service without spe-cific hardware or software because this system has been built on web.
