Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to study any effects of managerial strategies on prevention of ketosis metabolic disorder in transition period in Shahroud commercial dairy farms. For this purpose, a questionnaire was prepared in order to obtain required information about the performance of these managerial strategies, performance costs, involvement situation with disorders relying upon clinical signs and treatment and health records, producing and economic situation, and fertility rate and its costs. The considered managerial guidelines include body condition score management or type evaluation in transition period, increase in dry matter intake close to parturition, using propylene glycol, using niacin, and high-quality feeding (the importance of feed quality) in transition period. Finally and upon arrangement of data, it was possible to study any effects of mentioned managerial strategies on related variants through multiple linear regressions. Furthermore, in order to study any relation among variables, we considered Pearson correlation coefficients as well. Finally, it was revealed that any application of managerial strategies for prevention from Ketosis in transition period has a significant effect in betterment of managerial and economic parameters.

Abstract:
Economic downturn can either create opportunities or difficult threats for small and medium sized enterprises. Managerial perceptions act as environmental interpretations and influence the strategies that are implemented during recessions and other difficult situations. In any scenario, they affect organizational performance. This paper investigates the interactions between managerial cognition of an economic recession, the response strategy chosen and the consequences for firm performance amongst foreign SMEs operating in Romania across 12 industries. We consider both managerial and organisational antecedents for organisational performance.

Abstract:
Purpose Most literature on ambidexterity has focused on large firms and on the influence of internal issues in this strategy, that is, organizational structures, top management integration, or internal knowledge management processes (Lutbatkin et al., 2006; Chang et al., 2011; Lee and Huang, 2012). The purpose of this paper is to assess small- to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)’ ambidexterity strategies during economic recession periods in comparison with those of large firms and identify the managerial external capabilities which are associated with the development of SMEs’ ambidexterity. Design/methodology/approach A multinomial logit model and a probit model are proposed and tested using data collected from 2,150 Spanish firms during the period of 2009-2013. Findings The data analysis reveals that SMEs develop more ambidextrous innovation strategies in recession periods than larger firms do. Moreover, two managerial external capabilities have been identified as drivers of SMEs’ ambidextrous behavior in crisis periods: first, the capability of top management to anticipate scenarios; and second, the capacity to acquire adequate external resources through co-operation. Practical implications The results show that SME managers wanting to develop ambidextrous strategies in recession periods have to forecast scenarios in terms of innovation difficulties and strengthen their resources through co-operation. Implementation of public policy is encouraged to support these capabilities, thus enhancing SME sustainability in uncertain contexts. Originality/value Prior studies have paid little attention to the role of external capabilities. Although their role was revealed as a relevant dimension in the study of SME ambidexterity in adverse contexts by Cao et al. (2010), it remained underexplored. This paper aims to fill this gap.

Abstract:
PurposeIn economic crisis, where tensions create anxiety and test the emotions of the firms' shareholders, communication from top management is very crucial as it provides the reflection of the managers' interpretation of the firms' situation and potential strategies. The goal of this paper is to investigate the relationships between sentiment, as an aspect of emotions extracted from the letters to shareholders, managerial discretion and the firms' subsequent performance and performance trajectory during crisis.Design/methodology/approachA sentiment analysis was conducted to extract the sentiment from the letters to shareholders, which were collected from firms in two countries with different levels of managerial discretion (US vs. Japan). Hypotheses were developed and tested using a series of regression analysis.FindingsThe primary findings indicate that (1) managerial sentiment identified in letters to shareholders can potentially be related to the firm's subsequent performance in the economic crisis, and (2) managerial discretion moderates the relationship between managerial sentiment and subsequent firm performance.Practical implicationsWhen the managerial discretion is high, firms' shareholders can use the sentiment in top management communications to gauge whether the firms' situation would be improving in the near future.Originality/valueThis study expands the current research on sentiment analysis and firm performance to the context of economic crisis by suggesting that managerial sentiment can be substantially provoked as firms are facing with stressful economic conditions. The study also highlights the moderating role of managerial discretion on the firms' subsequent performance.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTIn this article we provide a comprehensive framework to explain, in China and in Western countries, how three antecedents – regulations, stakeholder norms, and managerial mindsets – differently affect proactive environmental strategies (PES) and subsequently influence firm performance. A meta-analysis of 68 studies involving 71 samples supports our hypotheses. In Western countries, top managerial mindsets have the strongest effect and regulations have the weakest effect on PES. In China, regulations, stakeholder norms, and managerial mindsets have similar effects on PES. For Western firms, the PES has stronger effects on environmental performance than on economic performance and the effect on environmental performance is stronger than that in Chinese firms. For firms in China, the PES has equally positively affects on environmental and economic performance, but the effect on economic performance is stronger than that of Western firms. Implications for future research are discussed.

Abstract:
The research is devoted to the search for the technologies to support managerial decisions in the transport industry economic systems. The problems of the complex economic systems modelling have been identified. Cognitive modelling is considered as a tool of supporting intelligent decision making in economic systems. The modelling is based on methods of pattern recognition theory. The results of the scientific research are presented with structural-analytical models of decision support systems. Such models represent the knowledge processing to formulate recommendations for making managerial decisions. Knowledge based on the experience of managing a production situation should be stored in the knowledge base of the information decision making support system. Cognitive modeling will make it possible to study the problems that arise in unstable, weakly structured dynamic economic systems, taking into account changes of the external environment and the object of management itself, systematizing and verifying the expert's perception of the management object and its external environment, forecasting the values of economic system factors and generating optimal management strategies.

Abstract:
The article deals with the topical issue of forming managerial accounting theoretical bases. Managerial accounting is considered as a part of a company’s sustainable development harmonizing its economic, environmental and social activities. Therefore, the research is aimed at offering the informational basis and metrics for assessment and selection of the managerial accounting strategy as a part of a company’s sustainable development. The research object is a process of sustainable development management. A cost approach underpins the new theory explaining the essence of a company’s sustainable development and providing financial indicators for it. This allowed proving for the first time the Project-Based-Costing that in contrast to other types of costing focuses on economic, environmental and social projects as calculation objects and on working hours of project teams’ managers as a basis of overhead cost distribution incurred due to additional administrative and marketing activities. The obtained result is worth using, owning to the fact, that this instrument allows gathering financial information required for a company’s sustainable development management. Indicating initial types of costs resulted in the indication of ratio (Distance to Sustainable Development) supposing a company’s sustainable development assessment and managerial strategies in the case of its being negative. In practice, the ratio assessing a company’s sustainable development might serve for current monitoring operations from the perspectives of provision of harmonized economic, environmental and social activities as well as a range of offered strategies – for studying proved management in order to achieve a given level of a company’s sustainable development.

Abstract:
Managerial risk taking is a critical aspect of strategic management. To improve competitive advantage and performance, managers need to take risks, often in an uncertain environment. Formal economic assumptions of risk taking suggest that if the expected values for two strategies are similar but one is a greater gamble (uncertain), managers will choose the strategy with a more certain outcome. Based on these assumptions, agency theory assumes that top managers should be compensated or monitored to achieve better outcomes. We review the theory and research on agency theory and managerial risk taking along with theories that challenge this basic assumption about risk taking: the behavioral theory of the firm, prospect theory, the behavioral agency model and the related socioemotional wealth perspective, and upper echelons theory. We contribute to the literature by reviewing and suggesting research opportunities within and across these theories to develop a comprehensive research agenda on managerial risk taking.

Abstract:
Abstract Culture is a concept with different meanings, which is in close contact with the business world as well. Its influence on managerial activities within current organizations cannot be questioned, especially in the existing political, economic and social context. Nowadays, one of the specific ways of formulating and implementing strategies at the level of companies is related to the change of organizational culture. This paper aims to highlight, from a managerial perspective, the way in which the existing strategies at the organizational level are influenced by different cultural contexts. Sometimes strategy can be considered as a variable determined and constrained by the culture in which it is defined. It is not limited to the reflection and expression of culture but rather influences and changes it.

Abstract:
Online review platforms have become very popular in recent years, generating massive numbers of online reviews and thus enticing numerous enterprises to respond to reviews. Although the economic impact (e.g., sales impact) of managerial responses is well recognized, it is unclear whether such an impact is moderated by competitive intensity and market position. This study examines the moderating effects of competitive intensity and market position in the relationship between managerial responses and sales. Using a panel dataset from one of the largest restaurant review platforms in China, this research found that the influence of the volume of managerial responses to positive word-of-mouth (WOM) on sales declined with increasing competitive intensity and decreasing market position. Moreover, we found the volume and degree of personalization of managerial responses to negative WOM to be more important for enterprises with a low market position versus those with a high market position. Our results provide insights into the effectiveness of managerial responses in different environments. We also offer managerial implications to service providers on response strategies.

Abstract:
The debates about organizational responses to economic crisis have focussed on the need for strategic and structural realignment. Work organization is rarely considered as an integral element of competitive strategy. Current shifts in the contours of previously stable mass markets and product and process innovation demand equally profound organizational change to maintain competitiveness. In this context maintaining or regaining competitive advantage is critically dependent upon striking an optimal balance between maximizing the productivity and versatility of work organization. We examine the impetus, dynamics and impact of pervasive change processes in three contrasting organizations, Pilkingtons, Rank Xerox and Ford U.K. While Pilkingtons relied entirely upon existing managerial expertise, the latter two companies were distinctive in that they drew vital conceptual elements of their change agendas from their organizational links with, respectively, a Japanese and American company. From these case studies we conclude that significant business turnarounds were achieved by these companies because strategic choice, work organization, company culture and organizational realignment were conceived of and operationalized as complementary elements of their competitive strategy.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine managerial styles of Russian managers in the context of institutional and economic environment of contemporary Russia. Design/methodology/approach – The study is based on a sample of 482 line and middle managers covering eight geographic regions, 14 industries and 80 organizations in Russia. Findings – Employing factor and cluster analyses the paper identifies four distinct managerial styles: paternalistic, exploitative, performance oriented and passive. In addition, the paper analyzes a number of contingent characteristics of these typological Russian managers such as their age, career development, regional, industrial and organizational presence. Originality/value – The analysis enriches the understanding of managerial style idiosyncrasy, heterogeneity and evolution in Russia. The identified plurality of managerial styles, differentially related to a number of contingency variables, indicates that it pays off for western companies to avoid using stereotypical ideas when dealing with their Russian counterparts and employ conscious strategies when recruiting managers to their Russian operations instead.

Abstract:
Relevance. Ensuring the long-term competitiveness and efficiency of mining enterprises requires increasing the pace of development: the introduction of new technologies, the improvement of labor methods, the implementation of institutional transformations. However, the implementation of the innovation strategy does not occur systematically, at an insufficient pace, with an excess of resource costs and a systematic failure to achieve planned results, due mainly to subjective factors based on contradictions between economic goals and the social policy of the enterprise. Purpose of the study: the formation of standard strategies for the socio-economic development of a mining enterprise, depending on the dynamics of the external and internal environment. Research methods. In the course of the study, the methods of structural-functional analysis, abstract-logical modeling, socio-economic forecasting, production experiment and systems approach were used.. Results. On the basis of the study of the processes of transformation of the mining industry, the general problems hindering the innovative development of enterprises are highlighted. The main reason for such problems is managerial inconsistencies between technical and economic capabilities and motivational mechanisms. Based on the study of the transformation processes of mining enterprises, four standard strategies of socio-economic development have been developed that ensure the transition to sustainable development based on a balanced distribution of limited resources between social and economic goals. Conclusions. The fundamental strategies of socio-economic development are determined by overlapping development cycles of the external and internal environment: concentration, adaptation, evolutionary and innovation. The correct choice of strategy allows making rational management decisions: in crisis conditions - to reduce economic losses, to preserve the assets of the enterprise and the operability of the technological subsystem; in favorable conditions - to realize the potential of the enterprise based on the growth of efficiency and sustainability of its work

Abstract:
Although transnational corruption in Failing States is evidence of bad governance, its reconstruction as a gross violation of human rights – especially economic and social rights – is fairly recent. The present study argues that violation of economic and social rights through transnational corruption is linked to State failure, which in turn has transnational spill-over repercussions that threaten the common interests of international peace and security. The international community has extraterritorial human rights obligations to devise appropriate responses to current destruction of the economic foundations of Failing States and stop the economic crimes perpetrated by corrupt regimes against their own people. This paper argues that domestic anti-corruption institutions are inadequate to contain this problem and this inadequacy necessarily requires coordinated international or regional action. Such international action may include managerial strategies to reengineer and manage political culture change in Failing States, and legal strategies to confront the impunity of Failing States, individual perpetrators and their associates.

Abstract:
Strategizing is a dynamically developing trend of contemporary research and an autonomous branch of economic knowledge in the professional sphere. The methodological basis of the research in this field is the study of Vladimir L. Kvint and his scientific school of strategizing. The theory and practice of strategizing are the focal point of the representatives of this scientific school. Development of a strategy starts with analyzing forecasts and examining the inner and the outer environment of the object of strategizing. The peculiar feature of strategizing methodology is applying of the OTSW-analysis method. Strategizing methodology involves strategic systematization, categorization and classification of national and regional objects of strategizing. Strategizing of new regions and objects requires research in national and regional strategies, scientific and innovative, economic and financial, environmental strategies of economic sectors (sectoral, educational, cultural), corporate strategies. The rapidly developing branch of economic studies requires new approaches to teaching theory and practice of strategizing to schoolchildren, bachelor students, master students and postgraduates as well as to young researchers. Development of theory and methodology of strategizing establishes new effective approaches to managerial decision-making, transforms classical methods of economic analysis. Methodology of strategizing has proved to be extremely successful and useful in many countries when applied for developing and modernizing national, regional and corporate strategies.

The complexity, the variety and the permanent dynamism of today’s world (including economic domain) involve a continue flexibility and folding of the enterprise mission to these changing realities. The diagnosis of a firm’s activitiy represents the starting point in designing, funding and implementation of strategic-tactical solutions, in order to improve the general activity and the viability and economic-financial and managerial effectiveness of the firm (company, organization). In the present analysis we are focused exactly on the duality or the binomial strategy-tactics, because if the strategy means the hard of the activity, viability and sustainability of an entity and, even, of a country, tactics are viewed as the soft moves, instruments and manoeuvres, in order to help strategy to overpass each stage in order to reach the desired goal or goals (ends). The tactics have to be aligned to and compatible with the chosen and approved strategies. The case of practise is from higher education domain, with the completition strategy-tactics within an university entity. As in each case of business activity, the final goal is to win, to gain profit and to sale safety on the waves of globalization and changing world.

This study analyzes the response of the British Electricians' Union to economic adversity, and to new managerial strategies, as embodied in the union's novel agreements in three Japanese-owned British electronics firms. These agreements provide that the union is the sole bargaining representative in each firm; most British plants, by contrast, have multiple-union representation. Most of the new-style agreements also contain a no-strike clause, final-offer arbitration of interest disputes, and measures to increase labor flexibility, reduce the diversity in conditions among plant, office, and managerial employees, and enhance employee participation in major company decisions. The author views these agreements as evidence that fundamental changes in collective bargaining relationships are taking place.

The development and growth of Taiwan's industries, especially the semiconductor and electronics industries, has been emphasizing overwhelmingly on cost-leadership innovation and strategy. Although such capital-intensive, volume-driven and cost-down strategies have been successfully measured by industrial and economic growth, the amounts of value created and captured in global value chain and innovation networks are insignificant. We apply the framework of creation and capture of value to analyze the industrial value creation strategy in newly industrialized countries for the last four decades. We examine their past industrial policy and business strategy, and argue that the transformation of policy and strategy must gear toward creating and capturing higher value in the global innovation network. Several managerial and policy implications are also discussed.

In particular, because of the complexity of managerial inputs, understanding the effects of decreases in levels of one or several inputs presents a difficult experimental problem. Moderate reductionism is proposed as an appropriate hierarchical analysis, which first characterizes system level behavior and then explains it in terms of system components and their interactions. An example is given using reduced nitrogen fertilizer inputs; higher nitrogen use efficiency at lower levels of input is explained by increased nutrient recycling between soil and plant subsystems. Transition from conventional to reduced-input management involves changes in both economic and ecological properties of agroecosystems. Biological, chemical and physical changes, including increased species diversity, tighter nutrient recycling, and longer-term perennial effects, may parallel ecological succession. Hypothetical trends for several such changes are discussed.

This articles tries to analyze the corruption strategy that was becoming institutionalized during the Liberal Democracy (1950-1957) and Guided Democracy (1957-1965) period and how the state dealt with these challenges through managerial strategies. Corruption here is seen as a discourse that are often used by new state elite entrant to discredit old elites, especially those with connection to the financial or economic policy makers. The position of foreigners here are central because they provide opportunities for asset transfer or the creation of new assets. By looking at the financial transition from Liberal Democracy to Guided Democracy, the forms of transfer or asset production through corruption or collusion could be discerned.

Abstract:
Generation Y or millennial generation was born in the 1980s to 2000s and therefore students of Pembangunan Jaya 2 Sidoarjo Senior High School belong to this millennial generation. At school, these millennial students only practice making finished goods without any training on entrepreneurship, which includes managerial skills, entrepreneurial management, and technopreneurship. The skills they have been learning so far have only been production-oriented, rather than entrepreneurial management-oriented. Therefore, the aim of this activity was to provide sustainable entrepreneurial skills (managerial and technopreneurship) to students of Pembangunan Jaya 2 Sidoarjo Senior High School. The method of activity included both theory and practice regarding managerial skills in entrepreneurial management, which covers (1) planning, (2) organizing, (3) implementing, (4) controlling, (5) evaluating, (6) motivating and technopreneurship skills as a synergy process from a strong ability in the mastery of technology as well as a comprehensive understanding of the concept of entrepreneurship. The results of the activity show that managerial skills and understanding of technopreneurship in the process and formation of new businesses that involve technology as a basis can create appropriate strategies and innovations in pursuing entrepreneurship. In the long term, it is expected that managerial skills and understanding of technopreneurship will become one of the factors for national economic development.

Abstract:
The study empirically tested the relationship between managerial competencies and competitive advantage in pharmaceutical blockbusters. According to the literature, blockbuster models and competitive strategies are significant determinants in organisational performance in the pharmaceutical industry context. However, the focus of this study is to determine whether efforts to combine managerial competence and the blockbuster model will reorient pharmaceutical companies to better competitive advantage by creating blockbuster drugs for the companies. This competitive advantage will position pharmaceutical companies in the face of increasing labour turnover, daunting economic challenges and perceived customer benefits that characterise this industry. A quantitative research design was adopted for this study, and primary data were obtained through a structured questionnaire administered to 22 managers of two major pharmaceutical firms in Lagos, Nigeria. The data obtained revealed a strong positive relationship between managerial competencies, blockbuster models and competitive advantage and three out of four hypotheses were accepted. The hypotheses were tested through Pearson’s product-moment correlation and regression product of determination. Descriptive statistical tools, ANOVA and multiple linear regressions were used to assess perceptions of managerial competencies and blockbuster models on SPSS (version 23.0). Cronbach’s alpha was extracted as a reliability coefficient for the data analysis (α = 0.851). Several implications for management and policy are also discussed in light of the findings of this study. It was concluded that a deep knowledge of managerial competencies and blockbuster models are highly needed in the selected pharmaceutical companies to gain business expansion, maintain low average costs and achieve significant market share while improving on their level of service delivery and capacity to support groups or teams through training, coaching and sharing specialist knowledge. This study recommends developing strategies and deploying blockbuster models across all industries for a distinctive advantage of ineffective organisational performance and greater productivity.

Abstract:
In the context of the global economic crisis associated with the pandemic, the gender gap index has increased, indicating increasing gender inequalities and, consequently, gender assimilation in society. Despite the fact that in Russia the total number of educated, qualified, healthy, working women is significantly higher than that of men, women face unequal wage distribution and feel the income gap, rarely reach managerial positions, are not represented at high managerial levels, and are excluded from political life. The aim of the study was to identify and examine the specifics of gendered career-building strategies by Russian women as a way of narrowing the gender gap. The following methodological approaches were used to consider gender inequalities in the organizational context: Gender in organization, Gendered organization, Doing & Undoing Gender Strategies. Key results: confirming the existence of gender strategies as a way to bridge the gender gap within an organization; identifying and describing how Russian women apply gender strategies in their career development. The “Doing Gender” strategy was used more frequently than the “Undoing Gender” strategy. However, the scope of Undoing Gender was much wider and more variable. Those women who used a combination of gender strategies (“Doing & Undoing Gender”) rated themselves as “strong players”, emphasized high subjective satisfaction with their lives (having a family and children), and noted a successful career path, unlike those who used only one of the strategies. A combination of gender strategies can help to promote women’s careers in the best possible way and bridge the gender gap in the organization.

Abstract:
In modern democracies, nonprofit organizations and social enterprises have a relevant political role that may be threatened by the entry into the market of services. This risk increases in time of economic crisis, when the competition grows stronger and the economic needs become more urgent. Starting from this assumption, the article analyzes the relationship between the managerial strategies and the political role of the Italian third sector, focusing on the implications of the management models put in place in order to “survive” the 2008 economic crisis. Two ideal-typical strategies will be outlined, labelled respectively “entrepreneurial turn” and “hyper-embeddedness”, which seem to have effects both in terms of the manner in which the political role is realized, and in terms of the degree of politicization of the organizations. Since such strategies can both increase or decrease nonprofits’ political ambitions, it is not possible to give an interpretation in terms of a tout court distancing from politics. However, it will be argued that a trait common to all the trajectories is the withdrawal from what Mouffe defines “the political”, referring specifically to the dimension of conflict and antagonism.

Abstract:
This essay explicates, develops, and assesses the basic argument in Rudra Sil's Managing “Modernity”: Work, Community, and Authority in Late-Industrializing Japan and Russia. Sil presents “a flexible, integrative theoretical framework” and an interdisciplinary, comparative historical narrative. He hypothesizes that a “syncretist” strategy, when founded on durable legacies and when filtered through “congruent” intrafirm relationships, is much more likely than “modernist,” “revolutionary,” and “traditionalist” strategies to strengthen “managerial authority” and economic performance in large industrial enterprises. Four case studies (pre- and postwar Japan and Russia) attest to the benefits of “synthetic institutionalism” as a theory-building strategy and of syncretic incrementalism as an institution-building strategy. Sil's book focuses on the sources of managerial authority and the patterns of shop-floor behavior, not on system dynamics and interinstitutional interactions. Nonetheless, Managing “Modernity” is a major work for multiple authences and for multiple reasons.

Abstract:
This paper investigates the impact of fiscal and Monetary Policies on Unemployment Problem in Nigeria and covers the periods 1980 to 2013. To achieve this, fiscal policy was captured here by government expenditures and revenues respectively while monetary policy was proxied by broad Money Supply (M2), Interest and Exchange rates respectively. The methodology adopted was econometric analysis employing OLS techniques and unit roots of the series were examined using the Augmented Dickey-Fuller after which the co-integration tests was conducted using the Engle Granger approach. Error correction models were estimated to take care of the short run dynamics. It was found that while government expenditure had a positive relationship with unemployment problem in Nigeria, the result of government revenue was negative and insignificant on unemployment problem. For monetary policy, it was found that money supply and exchange rate had positive and significant impact while interest rate has only a positive relationship on unemployment problem in Nigeria. This meets the a priori expectation. The study also revealed that increases in interest and exchange rates escalate unemployment by increasing cost of production which discourages the private sector from employing large workforce. On the other hand, national productivity measured by real GDP had a negative and significant impact on unemployment rate in Nigeria. This paper recommends that for an effective combat to unemployment problem in Nigeria, there should be a systematic diversion of strategies, thus more emphasis should be laid on aggressively pursuing entrepreneurial development and increased productivity. Again government should aggressively focus on investment, employment generation and economic growth that has mechanism to trickle does to the masses.

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between management accounting practices and strategy development in SMEs. SMEs are among the main actors of economic development and growth. To determine the right strategies in a variable and competitive market, the qualitative and quantitative knowledge produced by the accounting system is needed. The management accounting system can influence managerial decisions, change strategies, and affect the performance of the firm through its extensive practices. Using the multivariate statistical analyses, the results of the applied studies for SMEs show that the management accounting system’s planning and control, cost management, and performance measurement and evaluation functions significantly affect which strategy the firms will implement. According to the research, the management accounting practices used by SMEs are related to the company strategies they have taken, and these actions have been reached as an effect on the strategies of the companies.

The mathematical model of a territorial community management based on a multi-sectoral model of a national economy and Kaizen strategy has been built. According to the modelling a united territorial community is a "closed system". This allows to determine the internal functioning potential to assess the possibilities of self-financing and break-even point. In the multi-sectoral model for a territorial community, we assume that the elements of this complex system are the basic factors of production, namely, land, labour, capital, entrepreneurial skills and information. It has been found out that effective management of territorial community’s internal potential allows to assess its internal economic security rate based on autonomy and self-sufficiency. It has been proved that Kaizen strategies cause effective organization, control and managerial influence on a complex system like a territorial community in the context of its dynamic development.

Abstract:
Recent years have witnessed a profound evolution of ports, induced by a wide range of factors, such as: (a) technological developments in shipping, cargo-handling and storage equipment, and information and communication systems; (b) changing patterns of international trade; (c) a broadening complexity of global supply chains; and (d) a changing governance models of the port as a consequence of the process of privatization in Europe. The growing size and complexity of port functions have inspired an ever more interesting and useful scientific debates on the social, economic and environmental effects of these transformations, and, more specifically, on the relationship between the port and the city. The paper addresses, to this end, an emerging managerial perspective in the decision making process of Port Authority: the network. This perspective allows to understand the nature of relationship networks shaping the competitive and cooperative dynamics of the port and to identify the boundaries for an active role of the Port Authority in defining the sustainable development of port within its own territory.

Innovation activities of private firms are crucial for sustainable economic growth in every society. Therefore, the majority of firms around the world spend large amounts of capital (money, time, and human resources) in searching for novel innovative opportunities in the marketplace. In our study, we sought to understand how the openness of firms’ external search strategies (external search breadth and external search depth) affects firms’ innovation capabilities as measured by awareness, decision-making, interpretation, and implementation capability. Furthermore, using survey data collected from 112 Chinese manufacturing firms over a six-month period, this study conducted an empirical analysis about the association between firms’ innovation capabilities on the type of innovation (exploratory innovation vs. exploitative innovation). This study also provides important managerial insights for manufacturing companies.

Abstract:
Introduction. Achieving economic growth and high competitiveness of the enterprise in the market requires flexible development of tools to respond adequately to changes in the environment. The projected complication of the competitive business environment requires management to review existing management strategies and generate innovative ideas to identify new business priorities and formulate new models of managerial engagement. Methods. The analysis is based on systemic, structural, functional and synergistic approaches. Universal methods of formal logic and scientific abstraction, basic principles of research of innovation, investology, institutionalism, system-functional analysis of organizational construction of administrative interaction are used. Results. The direction of economic systems in the post-industrialization phase actualizes the need to move to innovative management principles to achieve competitive strategies. Established hierarchical models of management are not able to provide the necessary level of competitiveness of enterprises, which requires updating of management interaction schemes. The virtualized model takes into account the dynamism of the environment, provides high speed of transformations, initiates sufficient flexibility of technological and administrative-management infrastructures of the enterprise. The use of previously untapped benefits of information technology has led to the partial replacement of traditional management structures with more flexible ones. The need to save resources in times of systemic crisis leads to greater use of the outsourcing model, which forms a qualitatively new vision of virtualized business development. The flexibility of management interaction contributes to the leadership of the company when launching an innovative product on the market. Building a management system based on the principles of modeling complex business processes using horizontally directed information flows allows to build integrated competitive strategies of innovative production, involving managers of all levels in the management processes. Discussion. Further research should be directed to the development of methodological foundations for reformatting the systems of managerial interaction, depending on the peculiarities of the functioning of domestic business, working out methods of calculating the effectiveness of updated organizational structures of management, issues of institutional support for innovative enterprises. Keywords: economic system, competitiveness, management virtualization, information flows, management interaction, business process.

Abstract:
The devastating conditions of the Great Depression forced manufacturers to rethink their approach to workplace control, economic policy, and production practices. Although we know a great deal about how industries responded to the depression, we know very little about the changes implemented by firms. This is unfortunate as firms in the same industry face quite different problems, possess dissimilar work cultures, construct an array of production formats, and have access to a range of financial resources. Based on a literature that documents the variety of strategies devised by industries and firms, this paper shows how four Canadian textile firms—two cotton and two hosiery and knitting—reacted to the economic crisis of the Great Depression. In the face of a different array of conditions, each firm devised different restructuring strategies. The large cotton corporations responded by combining mechanization, product line change, and a new division of labor. The smaller, more competitive hosiery and knitting firms, on the other hand, imposed either a harsh regime of scientific management or conservative, piecemeal changes. In the midst of restructuring the workplace, manufacturers reasserted their prerogatives of managerial authority, selectively took advantage of the opportunities opened up by economic crisis, and created a new regime of industrial-state regulations.

Abstract:
The purpose of the study is to identify ways of inversion of professional knowledge and competencies of an architect on the example of managerial ones. The research problem is caused by the need to include professional education in the implementation of programs for the socio-economic development of the country and regions, to increase the competitiveness of graduates and to develop technologies for introducing innovations in education. The research hypothesizes that it is necessary to provide conditions for communication of the academic society of higher architectural schools with representatives of the external environment – administrative structures, industrial, design and other organizations, as well as representatives of civil society. A comparative analysis of the organizational and administrative components of the process of professional architectural education revealed four types of strategies for its development and four different approaches to the management of architectural schools: achieving leadership in all areas, promoting the dissemination of knowledge in society, raising the level of culture in society, pragmatic idea of providing access to the market of design services by obtaining a professional license. The comparison criteria were the goals, motivation, methods, principles, content, evaluation and learning outcomes laid down in the development strategies. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the approach to the study of the processes of inversion of professional knowledge and competencies acquired during architectural education, a look at the organizations of architectural education that are in demand by modern practice, the use of intra-professional, interdisciplinary and public communications for this purpose. As a result of the study, four approaches to the inversion of professional knowledge and competencies in architecture were identified, differing in administrative and managerial components of the educational process. Common to all approaches is the involvement of representatives of the external society, who are carriers of new knowledge and experience for expert evaluation of the components of professional education, selection of research directions, evaluation of the results of scientific and educational activities of students, development and implementation of strategies for the development of the university and architectural faculties.

Abstract:
Literature on eco-parks and eco-clusters has emphasized the opportunities for the coupling of local economic development and sustainability, going beyond firms’ green strategies to include also supply chains and local networks of firms. Studies have described the conditions and policies for the development of new sustainable economic activities in specific areas based on the industrial ecology approach. In contrast, little attention has been given to analysing how existing industrial districts are facing the chances of the new competitive pressures related to sustainability. The paper investigates the drivers and the evolutionary paths of industrial districts towards environmental sustainability. The empirical analysis is based on qualitative case studies of two Italian industrial districts specializing in the production of leather (Arzignano) and tiles (Sassuolo). Managerial and policy implications are provided.

Abstract:
An industrial system has positive and negative strategies to adapt to environmental regulations, which can be defined as natural disposability and managerial disposability. Meanwhile, the operational process of an industrial system can be divided into regular production activities and pollutant control activities. Within this, industrial system’s technical efficiency (TE) can be decomposed into economic efficiency (ECE) and environmental efficiency (ENE). On the basis of natural disposability and managerial disposability, this paper proposes static and dynamic data envelopment analysis (DEA) models to evaluate the efficiencies of industrial systems. Based on the proposed approach, TE, ECE, ENE, and Malmqusit productivity index (MPI) values were obtained simultaneously. The MPI values were further separated into the effects of static efficiency change and technical change. The proposed method was applied to assess the technical efficiencies of Chinese regional industrial systems between 2011 and 2015. Key findings are that (1) the low ENE is the main source of technical inefficiency; (2) the average static TE and ENE under natural disposability are both lower than those under managerial disposability; (3) the static efficiency change and technical change of TE are similar to those of ENE; and (4) the technical change has a significant impact on the changes in TE.
