Abstract:
An efficient microwave-assisted synthesis of(±)-mandelic acid-d5was developed. The racemic mixture was resolved by diastereomeric salt formation using 1-phenylethylamine enantiomers as resolving agents. At each step, the resolution process was checked by determining mandelic acid-d5enantiomer ee values directly on fractional crystallized diastereomeric salts by chiral capillary electrophoresis analysis. Highly enriched (−)- and (+)-mandelic acid-d5(95% and 90% ee, resp.) were obtained and their absolute configurations—RandS, respectively—were determined by correlation of the (−)-mandelic acid-

Representatives of the Pseudomonas mandelii species are able to exist and multiply in places where the temperature is constantly low. The optimum growth temperature for P. mandelii is 25–30°C, although this bacterium can grow at 4°C but not at 37°C. Therefore, P. mandelii is an excellent example of psychrotolerant bacterium which like psychrophilic bacteria is characterized by a number of structural and functional adaptations that facilitate survival at low temperatures. To understand these microorganisms’ role in Antarctica the characterization of its biopolymers is vital. One of these biopol

Abstract As a kind of odorous substance, 2-methylisoborneol (2-MIB) is difficult to be degraded naturally. Some isolated strains of bacteria can degrade 2-MIB effectively. In this study, a strain of bacteria which can remove 2-MIB from drinking water efficiently was obtained from activated carbon in a filter, and was identified to be Pseudomonas mandelii based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis. Pseudomonas mandelii was not sensitive to the initial concentration of 2-MIB, and could tolerate a rather high concentration of 2-MIB. Although the gold standard for assessing outcomes, photographic documentation is limited by subjective interpretation. Tools for measuring physical skin properties allow for an objective assessment of changes in skin quality. The authors sought to objectively study the viscoelastic changes to the skin following treatment with topical mandelic acid, using the Cutometer MPA 580.
