Abstract:
Manganese is considered as an essential element for man and other animals. Although it is one of the trace elements least toxic to mammals, man-made pollution related to the steel industries and exposure to the mining of manganese ore represent potential hazards to organisms in these areas. One of the target organ systems of manganese is the central nervous system (Beliles, 1975). Intake of its metal dust can lead to chronic manganese poisoning resembling Parkinson’s disease (Ferraz, et.al., 1988). Symptoms of this disease have been observed in human after prolonged chronic exposure to manganes

Abstract:
Manganese poisoning is a toxic condition due to excessive exposure to manganese which can present with neurological or psychiatric symptoms. Here is a case report of a 51 years old male with occupational history, brought to the Emergency Room with two days history of acute onset behavioural disturbances. There was a history of taking Siddha medications for the last 4 months for polyarthralgia with minimal improvement. A diagnosis of organic psychotic disorder due to Manganese intoxication was made. MRI Brain plain and contrast were normal. The heavy metal screen was suggestive of high Manganes

Abstract:
The interactions between different components of solid oxide cells (SOCs) are critical issues for achieving the tens of thousands of hourâ s goal for long-term performance stability and lifetime. The interactions between the ceramic electrolyte, porous ceramic air electrode, and metallic interconnect materials â including solid state interfacial reactions and vaporization/deposition of some volatile elements â have been investigated in the simulated SOC operating environment. The interactions demonstrate the material degradation mechanisms of the cell components and the effects of differe

Abstract:
Metallic interconnects in intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFC) stacks form Cr2O3 scales on their surface. Such oxide scales can be further oxidized to Cr6+ containing gaseous species that migrate and deposit at the cathode triple phase boundaries, causing significant degradation in the performance of the SOFCs. This phenomenon is termed as ‘Cr-poisoning’. A solution to this problem is the application of coatings on the interconnects that act as a diffusion barrier to Cr migration. Two different Cu/Mn spinel compositions, Cu1.3Mn1.7O4 and CuMn1.8O4, were studied as coatin

Abstract:
Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) have gained renewed interest due to their high energy-conversion efficiency, new discovery of fossil fuel sources, and low greenhouse gas emission. However, performance degradation during long-term operation is one of the greatest challenges to overcome for commercialization of SOFCs. At intermediate temperatures, chromium (Cr) vapor species that form over chromia-forming alloy interconnect, can transport and deposit in the cathode, and poison the cathode performance. Although extensive studies have been conducted on the Cr-poisoning phenomena, the mechanism of c
