Piecewise constant curvature manifolds are discrete analogues of Riemannian manifolds in which edge lengths play the role of the metric tensor. These triangulated manifolds are specified by two types of data: 1. Each edge in the triangulation is assigned a real-valued length. 2. For each simplex in the triangulation, there exists an isometric embedding of that simplex into one of three background geometries (Euclidean, hyperbolic, or spherical). In particular, this isometry respects the edge length data. By making the edge lengths functions of scalars, called conformal parameters, that are ass

Abstract:
The two-point in situ method is a technique for measuring the room constant of a semi-reverberant room and the sound power of a source in that room simultaneously using two measurement positions. Using a reference directivity source, where the directivity factor along any given axis of the source has been measured, one is able to use the Hopkins-Stryker equation to measure both the room constant and the sound power level of another source rather simply. Using both numerical and experimental data, it was found that by using generalized energy density (GED) as a measurement quantity, the resul

Modelling the wake effect generated by wind turbines is an essential part for calcu- lating a wind farm’s expected energy production. Operating wind turbines disturb the flow of the wind, which results in decreased production of downwind turbines. The N. O. Jensen model is an industry standard wake model that assumes a linear expansion of the downstream wake. The only adjustable parameter in the model is the wake decay constant (WDC), which has traditionally been derived semi em- pirically from terrain surface roughness. However, the WDC defines the expansion rate of the generated wake, and th

Abstract:
Current methods for measuring energy flow rate in a pipe use a variety of invasive sensors, including temperature sensors, turbine flow meters, and vortex shedding devices. These systems are costly to buy and install. A new approach that uses non-invasive sensors that are easy to install and less expensive has been developed. A thermal interrogation method using heat flux and temperature measurements is used. A transient thermal model, lumped capacitance method LCM, before and during activation of an external heater provides estimates of the fluid heat transfer coefficient h and fluid temperat

Habituellement, lessuspensions de matériaux carbonés so

Abstract:
The optimum configuration of rotor-to-generator size for wind turbines is dependent upon the wind resource and is the configuration that produces the most electrical energy at a fixed capital cost. This optimization study held the combined cost of the rotor plus generator constant, but varied the respective sizes of the rotor and generator within this constraint. Total annual electrical energy was computed for each configuration at a series of wind resources each defined by a different Weibull probability distribution. In each case the configuration that produced the most electrical energy
