Abstract:
We present an initial study into the representation of tree-adjoining grammar formalism for parsing Manipuri language. Being a low resource and computationally less researched language, it is difficult to achieve a natural language parser for Manipuri. Treebanks, which are the main requirement for inducing data-driven parsers, are not available for Manipuri. In this paper, we present an extensive analysis of the Manipuri language structure and formulate a lexicalized tree-adjoining grammar. A generalized structure of Manipuri phrases, clauses and the structure of basic and derived sentences have been presented. The sentence types covered in our analysis are that of simple, compound and complex sentences. Using the tree-adjoining grammar we have formulated, one can implement a Manipuri parser whose results can be of immense help in creating a Treebank for Manipuri.

Abstract:
The key purpose of this paper is to investigate the phonological aspect of syllable structure in Bishnupriya Manipuri. The language is spoken in the North-East Indian states of Assam, Tripura, Manipur, and Meghalaya, as well as in the neighbouring country Bangladesh. It is a member of the Eastern form of Indo-Aryan language family. According to India’s 2011 census report, the total population of Bishnupriya speakers is 79,646. The research area focuses on Bishnupriya speakers in the state of Assam. When it comes to nomenclature, the language is surrounded by a lot of controversy. Some people refer to it as Bishnupuriya, while others refer to it as Bishnupriya Manipuri or just Bishnupriya. The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recently published a list of endangered languages, and Bishnupriya is listed as vulnerable on that list. The language doesn’t have a script of its own, so it uses the Bengali script. Bishnupriya's syllabic structure is V, VV, VC, VCV, VVC, CVC, CV, CVV, and so on. The different types of Bishnupriya syllables are: (i) Mono-Syllabic, (ii) DiSyllabic, (iii) Tri-Syllabic, (iv) Tetra-Syllabic, (v) Penta-Syllabic and (vi) HexaSyllabic.

Abstract:
The suffixation of verbs plays an important role in the formation of a meaningful sentence in Manipuri language. All the verbs in Manipuri are bound roots. So, there is always a suffix at the verb in Manipuri sentences. In English language, the tense of a sentence is determined from the verb but in Manipuri language, the tense of a sentence is determined from the suffix(es) associated with the verb. English to Manipuri Machine Translation (EMMT) is a rule-based automatic translation system. In EMMT, the suffixation rules of Manipuri verbs are essential for the derivation of an appropriate suffix(es) of the translated verb in Manipuri from the input English sentence. In this MT, suffixation rules are proposed to use in the post-processing module as a new approach. This paper presents the process of EMMT, different suffixation rules of Manipuri verbs and implementation in EMMT according to the types of tense in English.

Morphological analysis is the basic foundation in Natural Language Processing applications including Syntax Parsing, Machine Translation (MT), Information Retrieval (IR) and Automatic Indexing. Morphological Analysis can provide valuable information for computer based linguistics task such as Lemmatization and studies of internal structure of the words or the feature values of the word. Computational Morphology is the application of morphological rules in the field of Computational Linguistics, and it is the emerging area in AI, which studies the structure of words, which are formed by combining smaller units of linguistics information, called morphemes: the building blocks of words. It provides about Semantic and Syntactic role in a sentence. It can analyze the Manipuri word forms and produces grammatical information, which is associated with the lexicon. Morphological Analyzer for Manipuri language has been tested on 4500 Manipuri lexicons in Shakti Standard Format (SSF) using Meitei Mayek Unicode as source; thereby an accuracy of 84% has been obtained on a manual check.

Language is the way of communication and used in different aspects of life. In every country there is a national language which is the state language used in offices and different organizations. Bengali is the state and widely spoken language of Bangladesh however language varies from community to community, race to race, society to society This study shows that there are many indigenous languages in Bangladesh which may be endangered in future specially in the Sylhet area of Bangladesh. The Manipuri language which is not used officially in Bangladesh may be one such language. It has its own alphabets and is spoken in the community. The language has however not been hampered due to COVID 19 and in fact has become more popular during the lockdown. Due to the increase in the popularity of social media (face book group, Cheik Kheik) the Manipuri language in Sylhet, still maintains their ethnic culture and use their language in the home domain.

Abstract:
Linguistically, Tripura is a case of one dominant language and several minority languages. This study aims to identify the minority languages endemic to Tripura, with the objective of preserving and protecting the identified languages. The present study is based on the secondary data collected from the Census of India, 2011 and Ethnologue, 2024. The descriptive research method has been used to analyse the data. The study reveals that eight minority languages are enlisted by the Directorate of Kokborok and Other Minority Languages in Tripura. The eight languages are Kokborok, Manipuri, Bishnupriya Manipuri, Kuki-Mizo, Garo, Halam, Chakma and Mogh. Out of the eight minority languages enlisted by the said directorate of Tripura, Kokborok is the only language endemic to Tripura, and other minority languages have their language core areas outside the state. The core area of Kokborok is situated in Tripura, and the periphery areas are spread in the adjacent Indian states of Mizoram and Assam and Chittagong hill tracts of Bangladesh. However, the Kokborok language is a vulnerable minority language in its core area. The language speakers account for only 25.9 per cent of the total speakers in Tripura. Even after gaining official status on January 19, 1979, the Kokborok language is not widely used in educational institutions, official circulars, press, television, courts, and financial or social institutions, weakening language vitality. Therefore, considering the endemic character of the Kokborok language, meaning that the Kokborok language holds unique traits and adaptations to environmental conditions in the region, its minority status and low language vitality, the Kokborok language needs to be preserved and protected.

ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Eintragen oder nicht: Versuch einer Untersuchung des Sprachkonflikts in Manipur Der Beitrag versucht, der häufig von Sprachbewegungen und anderen Initiativen vorgetragenen Forderung nach Eintragung der manipurischen Sprache in die Achte Sprachenliste der indischen Verfassung sowohl unter synchronischem als auch unter diachronischem Blickwinkel nachzugehen, ohne jedoch in eine Detailanalyse theoretischer Konsequenzen einzutreten. Um die Frage in der rechten Perspektive zu betrachten, wird versucht, sie in einem mehrdimensionalen Kontext zu sehen. Zu diesem Zweck werden die Sprachensituation in Indien, der Prozeß der Neuordnung der indischen Unionsstaaten nach Sprachgesichtspunkten und die ethnische, religiöse und demografische Zusammensetzung Manipurs erörtert. Daneben werden auch die Sprachenprobleme, mit denen die Gesellschaft in Manipur zu kämpfen hat, sowie bestimmte Faktoren, durch die die Dringlichkeit der Forderung nach Eintragung des Manipurischen gedämpft wird, ausführlicher besprochen. Similar languages with massive parallel corpora are readily implemented by large-scale systems using either Statistical Machine Translation (SMT) or Neural Machine Translation (NMT). Translations involving low-resource language pairs with linguistic divergence have always been a challenge. We consider one such pair, English-Manipuri, which shows linguistic divergence and belongs to the low resource category. For such language pairs, SMT gets better acclamation than NMT. However, SMT’s more prominent phrase- based model uses groupings of surface word forms treated as phrases for translation. Therefore, without any linguistic knowledge, it fails to learn a proper mapping between the source and target language symbols. Our model adopts a factored model of SMT (FSMT3*) with a part-of-speech (POS) tag as a factor to incorporate linguistic information about the languages followed by hand-coded reordering. The reordering of source sentences makes them similar to the target language allowing better mapping between source and target symbols. The reordering also converts long-distance reordering problems to monotone reordering that SMT models can better handle, thereby reducing the load during decoding time. Additionally, we discover that adding a POS feature data enhances the system’s precision. Experimental results using automatic evaluation metrics show that our model improved over phrase-based and other factored models using the lexicalised Moses reordering options. Our FSMT3* model shows an increase in the automatic scores of translation result over the factored model with lexicalised phrase reordering (FSMT2) by an amount of 11.05% (Bilingual Evaluation Understudy), 5.46% (F1), 9.35% (Precision), and 2.56% (Recall), respectively.

There are four basic colour terms in Meiteilon or Manipuri. There are also secondary colour terms, which are derived from objects. The associated objects are used with the term ‘mǝcu’, which means colour in Meiteilon. For instance, hǝŋamapalmǝcu is the colour term for yellow where hǝŋamapal means the mustard flower. Thus the yellow colour term is derived from the yellow colour of the mustard flower and is used with mǝcu to give an equivalent term for yellow in English. This paper seeks to explore the colour terms in Meiteilon in their possible forms and terms related to their states and their cultural salience, if any, with a holistic approach. As a pilot survey, the use of Manipuri colour terms in the speeches of 8 children (five 8-year-olds and three 5-yearolds, who lived in a particular locality of Imphal) was observed in their home environment. These children seem to know the colour terms in English well compared to the Manipuri colour terms. The initial observations hint at the diminished use of native terms compared to the use of English equivalents, which is not an ideal situation for the retention of native language at large. It is still to be checked if similar situations are prevalent in other home environments, and if such cases are on the rise then consequences could be far reaching in terms of indigenous languages losing out to English.

This paper proposes to investigate the theory of Gricean (1975, 1989) Figure of Speech within the framework of conversational implicatures in the dialogues of a very popular Manipuri Radio play. The Gricean figure of speech exploits or flouts the first maxim i.e. known as maxims of quality. In these maxims exploitation, he subsumes metaphor, irony, hyperbole and meiosis into implicatures as particularized implicatures to convey non-literal meaning. At the same time, in the figure of speech, he reconciled the implied meanings through his maxims and sub-maxims.It reveals divergence of meanings in language use, particularly in the study of dialogues in the play. When he reconciled the maxims of quality in various figures of speech, he flouted the maxims of truthfulness.

Abstract:
Unity in diversity is one of the most distinctive features of Indian civilization. From Jammu & Kashmir to Kanyakumari, every region portrays different customs, cultural traditions, and mother tongues. India is a country of multiple languages and ancient scripts. According to the 2011 census report, 1950 mother tongues were spoken/in use in India. Under Article 344 of the Indian Constitution, only 15 languages ​​were initially recognized as the official language. The 21st Constitution Amendment gave Sindhi the official language status. Based on the 71st Constitution Amendment, the Nepali, Konkani, and Manipuri languages were also included in the above list. Later, by the 92nd Constitution Amendment Act, 2003, four new languages ​​Bodo, Dogri, Maithili, and Santhali, were included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. Thus, now 22 languages ​​have been given the status of official language in the Indian Constitution. The total number of people speaking these 22 languages ​​in India is 90%. Apart from these 22 languages, English is also the official language and is also the official language of Mizoram, Nagaland, and Meghalaya. In all, 60 languages ​​are being taught in schools in India. There was an excellent response to the call for papers for Special Issue on Language Documentation and Archiving of DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technology (DJLIT). A total of about 13 Papers were received for the special issue. Based on the review and relevancy of the particular theme, seven papers have been selected for publication in the special issue on Language Documentation and Archiving.

North-East is a hub of many ethnic languages. This region constitutes with eight major districts; like-Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya and Sikkim. Tutsa is a minor tribe of Arunachal Pradesh. The Tutsa was migrated from the place ‘RangkhanSanchik’ of the South-East Asia through ‘Hakmen-Haksan’ way to Arunachal Pradesh. The Tutsa community is mainly inhabited in Tirap district and southern part of Changlang district and a few people are co-exists in Tinsukia district of Assam. The Tutsa language belongs to the Naga group of Sino-Tibetan language family. According to the Report of UNESCO, the Tutsa language is in endangered level and it included in the EGIDS Level 6B. The language has no written literature; songs, folk tales, stories are found in a colloquial form. They use Roman Script. Due to the influence of other languages it causes lack of sincerity for the use of their languages in a united form. Now-a-days the new generation is attracted for using English, Hindi and Assamese language. No study is found till now in a scientific way about the language. So, in this prospect the topic Nominal Inflection of the Tutsa Language has been selected for study. It will help to preserve the language and also help in making of dictionary, Grammar and language guide book.

Abstract This contribution introduces Suansu, an endangered Tibeto-Burman language spoken in Manipur, northeastern India. Suansu is virtually undescribed in the linguistic literature, and no previous attestations are known to date. This field report provides a first sketch of Suansu sociolinguistic profile, phonology and phonotactics, as well as basic information on Suansu nominal and verbal morphology. A preliminary comparative look at the languages spoken in the area suggests that Suansu does not align neatly with the set of traits commonly attested in the region, confirming the high linguistic diversity of the area and setting up the stage for further research.

Abstract This paper presents a sketch of the vowels and tones in the Poula language as spoken in the Naamai (Koide) village of Manipur. Acoustic studies on the vowels and tones are conducted in this work, and it is concluded that Poula has a six vowel inventory like many of the languages in the vicinity; however the distribution of vowels in Poula is quite peculiar, with the absence of high back vowels and presence of two high front vowels. In case of tones, this study reports four tones in Poula, namely, High-falling, Rising-falling, Mid and Low. The paper concludes with a short discussion on tones in Poula underived words.

<p>The use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education has increased manifold in the present times. The role and use of ICT as a tool for English Language Teaching (ELT) is increasingly explored by educators as they assist in creating collaborative and independent learning environment. ICT plays a pertinent role in enhancing motivation, creativity and critical thinking of the learners. In the study, the attitudes of the students and teachers of the secondary schools of Manipur, a state in northeast India towards using ICT in teaching and learning English language are investigated. The paper aims to make the teachers and learners aware of the use of ICT in English as a Second Language (ESL) classroom. Through the questionnaires administered to both teachers and learners, the importance and challenges in the pedagogy of ELT using ICT is identified and discussed. The findings of the survey indicate that most of the teachers and learners held positive approach towards integrating ICT in teaching and learning English language.</p><p> </p>

Abstract:
The theatre practice of Heisnam Kanhailal and his cocreator of performance, Heisnam Sabitri is less of words, speeches and dialogues than found in conventional proscenium theatre. Both Kanhailal and Sabitri believe that theatre has a language of its own and that language is not necessarily a language of verbal communication. In their theatre, action is expressed more through body movements, physical gestures and sounds than through spoken words as they believe that non-verbal silent communication of a theatrical action or feeling is more powerful than the spoken ones. This unusual mode of theatrical narrative has helped Kanhailal to form a rhetoric of resistance against various forms of socio-political injustice that Manipur has historically gone through. The articulation of theatrical communication in his plays occurs happens more through silence, gestures, and sounds than through conventional verbal communications. He was creating in Manipur what his contemporary Pinter was creating in England, much at the same time, much in the same line, much with the same motif although with much difference in their context and artistic execution.

Abstract East Tusom is a Tibeto-Burman language of Manipur, India, belonging to the Tangkhulic group. While it shares some innovations with the other Tangkhulic languages, it differs markedly from “Standard Tangkhul” (which is based on the speech of Ukhrul town). Past documentation is limited to a small set of hastily transcribed forms in a comparative reconstruction of Tangkhulic rhymes (Mortensen & Miller 2013; Mortensen 2012). This paper presents the first substantial sketch of an aspect of the language: its (descriptive) phonetics and phonology. The data are based on recordings of an extensive wordlist (730 items) and one short text, all from one fluent native speaker in her mid-twenties. We present the phonetic inventory of East Tusom and a phonemicization, with exhaustive examples. We also present an overview of the major phonological patterns and generalizations in the language. Of special interest are a “placeless nasal” that is realized as nasalization on the preceding vowel unless it is followed by a consonant, and numerous plosive-fricative clusters (where the fricative is roughly homorganic with the following vowel) that have developed from historical aspirated plosives. A complete wordlist, organized by gloss and semantic field, is provided as appendices.

Cultural identity resonates with the categories of 'personal' and 'social' identity vis-à-vis the ideas of politics and culture. The emergence and evolution of the idea of social identity in any society's political, social, and cultural context are determined by imperialism. This imperialism may come in various forms in the vicinity, even overthrowing one language and culture over dominance. It is evident in the context of Indian history, partly and evidently. However, beyond the proximity of nationhood, few important insights, eras and events that took place in North-East India are so far neglected, especially in Manipur. Concerning this, we explored the role of imperialism in resolving a parcel of conflict on the cultural identity, language as one of the tools, and religion as the basis for cultural divides. In this review, we observed that language had shaped the foundation of historic and cultural identity in Manipur. Secondly, the tussle in religious practices, which, in turn, becomes a political tool for cultural identity and divides. Thirdly, the rise in the ethnic discontentment of various ethnicities and minorities settling in the State is due to the above two reasons.

Violence had started in Manipur from 3rd May. Violence started in Manipur on May 3 between the Meitei (valley-dominated community) and the Kuki tribe (hill-dominated community). In fact, the Meitei community in Manipur is demanding that they should be given the status of Scheduled Tribe in the state like the Kukis. Tension escalated in Manipur when the Kuki community started protesting against the demand for granting official tribal status to the Meitei community. The Kukis argued that this would further strengthen their influence on the government and society, allowing them to purchase land or settle in predominantly Kuki areas. The Kukis say the war on drugs waged by the Meitei-led government is an excuse to uproot their community. The changing political scenario of Manipur due to ethnic violence remains a matter of concern for the government. Ancestral writing of the Zos is one of the intrusion through which the readers discern oral stories and folklores of the said tribal locale. The availability of the equivalent is in two structures; oral literature and the cutting edge composed written literature. The objective of this paper is to draw out writings of the Zos of Manipur with archival evidences and documentations. This paper determines to unlace the writings of the Zos by contributing to the field of social sciences and humanities. India being considered as one of the biggest ancestral locales all over the world, needs to invariably add new knowledge to the field of Tribal Literature. Indigenous literature of the Zos is being regarded as a losing ground because of the western cultural influence and a survey was conducted among the residents and non-residents of Manipur to prove the same. Thus, the paper aims to deal with glimpses of Zo folklores and its infallible choice to raise conscious awareness of cultural immediacy through Indigenous Existentialism approach. There are six surviving manuscripts under the category of Subika namely Subika, Subika Achouba, Subika Laishaba, Subika Choudit, Subika Cheithil, and Thengrakhel Subika. For this paper the manuscript “Subika Laishaba'' has been discussed. Illustration of Subika Laishaba is the manuscript painting among the earliest surviving visual arts forms of Manipur. Though the advent of Subika Laishaba paintings has lately acquired from various individual collections, the painting possesses an interesting area of studying its visual elements and cultural values of Meitei community. The painting of Subika Laisaba is a composition of cultural motifs made by pre-existing features and other influences stimulated from their cultural worldviews. Such cultural ethics of scriber makes them to create a unique style seen as indication of establishing a thought of school in which cultural and regional features are highlighted. Subika Laishaba manuscripts represent the direct and authentic continuation of the tradition of Meitei cultural life projected through visual images. Though there is no particular founder mentioned in the royal chronicle/history known as Cheitharol Kumbaba, there may be a possibility that the art form may have existed when the writing tradition was introduced in the state. This paper is an attempt to study its purposes and visual language portrayed in the Subika Laishaba manuscripts to understand its school in the realm of visual art. This study of visual language may be able to work without judgment and self-criticism.

Literature based language teaching which involves the use of a variety of literary works like prose, poems, folktales, legends and myths has been considered a common approach to enhance language learning process. A folktale is a traditional story that has been passed orally before the advent of the writing systems. Folktales also help pass values and beliefs, traditions and culture across generations. In general, folktales include distinguishing structural and linguistic features. This paper seeks to explore the folk narratives and argues that there are certain pedagogical benefits in using folktales to understand culture and for teaching English as a second language (ESL). It further examines how folktales can be employed in ESL classrooms to augment the learners’ language skills, communicative skills, vocabulary and cultural knowledge. In the study, different folktales of Manipur and Meghalaya, two states in the north eastern part of India, are explored to enhance the learner’s language learning process and cultural awareness. Abstract The paper presents an overview of negative expression in Liangmai, an under-described Tibeto-Burman language, primarily spoken in the Northeast Indian states of Manipur and Nagaland. There are two ways of negative formation in the language: (i) by suffixing negative markers to the main verb, and (ii) by the use of negative particles. The main negative suffixes in Liangmai are -mak, mainly used with realis constructions; -lak, used mainly with irrealis constructions; and -tu/-du with imperative, giving a prohibitive meaning. Negative particles used in the language include ha, which is a negative existential and raó, used to express ‘undesirability’. Additionally, a negative interjection hái is used frequently in the language as a negative answer to a question or to contradict a statement perceived to be incorrect. Negative polarity items are form by suffixing -dí to nominal stems and numerals. The present paper offers a descriptive account of negation in Liangmai, providing an overview of various constructions, namely, declarative, interrogative, imperative, relative and hortative, with negative polarity in the language.

This paper is a case study of the Tangkhul community, one of the major Naga tribes living in Manipur's Ukhrul district. It emphasizes how English education as a whole sheds light on communities that were "animistic," "barbaric," and "savage." The discussion progresses from the beginning, when English language and literature were introduced to the community by a Scottish missionary named William Pettigrew in 1896, to its current state. The missionary was spreading the gospel, but he had to cultivate the English language and literature in the process, which led to enlightenment. Looking at the current situation, one can realize the refinement that has spread among the Tangkhuls, and that will continue through the English language and literature directly or indirectly.

In India, the National Rural Health Mission envisaged of having committees with civil society representation at all publicly financed hospitals known as Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS), with mandate to enhance governance in hospitals. There are limited evidences about functioning of these committees in many states, especially in North Eastern (NE) states. This paper analyses the perspective of RKS members and relate to changing community- health system structure for improved governance. The study was conducted in three states Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura of NE Region of India. Using stratified sampling design, 14 RKS/facilities were selected from Manipur, 15 from Meghalaya and 11 from Tripura. Two key informants (mainly, president/secretary of RKS) were interviewed using a semi-structured pre-tested questionnaire in local language. The major areas of RKS operationalization identified include; constitution, finance management and activities related to health systems strengthening. RKS was constituted during 2006-07 with governing body following issuance of government of India guidelines. The funds (grants and User Fee) were utilized for purchase of furniture, bio-medical waste management etc. The governing body meetings focused mainly on ensuring services; in Tripura 72% of RKS had regular meetings and have shown improvement in functioning of facilities.Formation of RKS model paved way to a new beginning for strengthening health system with involvement of local leaders, civil society to improve governance. The functioning is derived by availability of resources, capacity of committee members and the bureaucratic process. El artículo parte de la importancia que la comunicación no verbal tiene sobre la interpretación, en concreto se estudian los efectos que la entonación monótona pueda tener sobre la recuperación de la información en la interpretación simultánea. El análisis se basa en un estudio experimental realizado por la autora. Como material se utilizaron tres vídeos en los que se manipuló la entonación de la interpretación y que contenían tanto la exposición o ponencia original como las interpretaciones superpuestas. Los sujetos, 42 profesores de las Facultades de Derecho y Ciencias Políticas y Sociología de la Universidad de Granada, así como 15 intérpretes profesionales, fueron repartidos en tres subgrupos. Todos los sujetos vieron y contestaron a sendos cuestionarios sobre los vídeos. Los resultados confirman los efectos negativos de la entonación monótona sobre la recuperación de la información.

Algunas guías recomiendan que la locución en la audiodescripción sea neutra (por ejemplo, AENOR, 2005). Sin embargo, hay pocas investigaciones que aborden qué es una voz neutra desde un punto de vista prosódico. Este artículo presenta los resultados de una prueba de percepción en español en la que se manipula el tono de voz de un hablante con el objetivo de observar si deja de percibirse esa voz como neutra, tal como se había considerado en estudios previos. En el experimento, en el que participan 26 personas con conocimientos de audiodescripción y 29 sin conocimientos, también se pregunta a los participantes cómo definirían una “voz neutra”. Ninguno de los participantes presentaba discapacidad visual. Los resultados muestran que las definiciones de voz neutra pueden clasificarse en 10 categorías. También indican que las voces graves se consideran más neutras que las agudas, si bien los participantes siguen identificando como voz neutra la voz original en la que no se ha modificado el tono.

An ancestral group, with a native religion, views its religion from a strictly confined group’s identity perspective. This narrowly confined identity narrative of their origin, rooted in their relationship with their proto-ancestor’s creator, contributes towards their belief systems that naturally precludes all other groups and thus results in a cautiously guarded religion of their ancestral group. The social identity process of religion shields it from evolving into a more universal belief system that cuts across cultures and languages. Nevertheless, the social identity process of the religion of an ancestral group is certainly a phenomenon that allows one to better comprehend the various intricate dynamics within an ancestral group and their inter-group dynamics. The article is contextualised within an ancestral group known as Hamai who come under Zeliangrong, an organisation formed for the socio-economic and political objectives of a section of the Hamai people of Manipur, Nagaland and Assam.

Al analizar cómo Estébanez Calderón manipula y moderniza dicha tradición en medio de la misión romántica de definir un sujeto nacional, la burla aparece como un rasgo significativo y problemático del carácter español. Si bien puede ser una forma no fatal, incluso alegre, de resolver conflictos, también puede ser fuente de la corrupción en política. Por tanto, la burla es un doble recurso literario que Estébanez Calderón domina y renueva, y cuya persistencia en el tiempo permite análisis y comparaciones diacrónicos que pueden añadir nueva vida a textos canónicos olvidados.

El presente artículo aborda la literatura infantil de Silvina Ocampo, concretamente algunos de los cuentos que integran La naranja maravillosa (1977). En este volumen, la autora manipula algunos relatos publicados previamente en sus contarios destinados al público general para adecuarlos al público infantil. Este trabajo examina las modificaciones que se llevan a cabo en las distintas versiones con la finalidad de dirigirse a diferentes lectores implícitos. De acuerdo a la Teoría de los Polisistemas y, sobre todo, a las investigaciones de Zohar Shavit, Silvina Ocampo integra los cuentos en dos sistemas literarios, con las implicaciones derivadas de este hecho. Finalmente, los cuentos poseen un carácter ambivalente y ocupan una posición difusa en el sistema tanto por la manipulación de los relatos como por la concepción de la infancia que subyace a su narrativa.

El objetivo de la investigación fue determinar la incidencia de la Ley de la Persona Adulto Mayor en la recaudación predial en la municipalidad de Nuevo Chimbote. De acuerdo al tipo de investigación fue correlacional, el diseño de la investigación fue descriptiva puesto que no se manipulo variables, solo se analiza. La muestra fue la información sobre los exonerados en la recaudación del impuesto predial. Las técnicas utilizadas fueron la entrevista y el análisis documental; los instrumentos de recolección fueron la guía de entrevista y la guía de análisis documental y para ver la incidencia se utilizó la fórmula R-Pearson. En los períodos 2017 y 2018, 04 y 308 adultos mayores respectivamente accedieron al beneficio según resoluciones generales; la recaudación antes tuvo un creciente ordinario del 23.78%, pero la recaudación después de la ley tuvo un creciente del 4.79% no de vía ordinaria sino debido al acceso al beneficio del adulto mayor Se llegó a la conclusión que existe incidencia de la Ley de la Persona Adulto Mayor en la recaudación predial del periodo.

AbstractLamkang is a Trans-Himalayan language spoken in the Chandel District of Manipur, India by under 10,000 ethnically Naga people. Due to a complex person indexation system in Lamkang clauses, multiple prefixes with the shape C- are attached to a verb stem creating lexemes with the shape CCCCVC. To make such forms pronounceable, speakers insert super-short vowel-like segments between the C- prefixes. Combining acoustic analysis with speakers’ intuitions about syllable structure, we examine the nature of these segments, arguing that an accurate phonetic description of Lamkang vowels must include these super-short vowels, as well as long and short vowels, which are phonemically distinct. We call these super-short vowels excrescent, following the terminology discussed in Hall (2011. Vowel epenthesis. In Marc van Oostendorp, Colin J. Ewen, Elizabeth V. Hume & Keren Rice (eds.), The blackwell companion to phonology, 1576–1596. Oxford: Blackwell. doi: 10.1002/9781444335262.wbctp0067: 1584). The excrescent vowel is a type of epenthetic vowel, sometimes also called “intrusive”, and is typified by its short duration and centralized quality distinct from lexical vowels. It is unstressed and has the phonetic effect of helping to transition between consonants. We show that the excrescent vowels in Lamkang have formant structures that barely resemble the characteristic formant profiles of the short and long vowels. While excrescent vowels are not contrastive, they are phonologically relevant because they have just enough sonority to form nuclei of CiVCii syllables where Cii is often ambisyllabic with the following syllable. The Lamkang data show that while any language-specific phonotactic constraints must reference the syllable, what constitutes a syllable must include the possibility of excrescent vowels as nuclei.

Relacionado con la tendencia contemporánea de la novela gráfica autobiográfica, cierto tipo de cómics puede ser incluido en la categoría de “autoficción”. Sin embargo, la forma en la que el creador manipula su “self” gráfico y la distancia irónica que se introduce lleva a pensar que nos enfrentamos no sólo con una “autoficción” sino con una “autoficción cómica” en la que le humor constituye un mecanismo narrativo muy importante. Los textos fragmentados que se estructuran de acuerdo con la poética del “gag” pueden considerarse en cierto modo un punto de fuga al modelo traumático canonizado por Art Spiegelman y su Maus. Paco Roca, Lewis Trondheim, Manu Larcenet son espléndidos ejemplo de esta práctica que se nutre de múltiples formatos como son las páginas de la prensa o los diarios.

The development of free, creative, improvised, anti-totalitarian speech, social and psycholinguistic factors have all contributed to the transformation of language consciousness and the realization of the game potential of speech, the analysis of which led to the formation of creative linguistics. The language game is realized due to the actualization of manipulations with units of all levels of the language system. Different categories of onyms are also involved in the language game, this fact is motivated by the special pragmatic nature of their meaning. The study of creative speech repre-sents an innovative approach to the description of the language which, although it has its traditional, partially developed methodology, is characterized by the uniqueness of expression in the system of anthroponyms. We state the emergence of creative onomastics as an independent linguistic direction, the unit of which is the anthroponym-createme. The language game with anthroponyms is clearly manifested in the discourse of the modern media. The purpose of this research is to represent the ways in which anthroponymic createmes function in modern Ukrainian and Russian journalistic discourse. Examples of manipulating the name of Russian President Vladimir Putin and modelling his media image are described. This anthroponym-createme became the stimulus for the creation of original connotations, semantic and word-forming derivation, pragmatic meanings, demonstrating the vector of its functional load. It has been proved that active methods of modelling alanguage game involving anthroponyms are (1)metaphorization and metonymization, (2)euphemism, (3)dysphe-mization, (4)crealized derivation, including graphic, (5)paraphrasing, (6)paronomasia, (7)actu-alization of several associative features, (8)realization of the phenomenon of precedent (manipu-lation of mythonyms, biblicals, folklore and other types of onyms), (9)collision of antonymous or (10)homonymous meanings. There is acombination of the above mechanisms of the creation of linguocreatemes: complex combinations of several methods in different variations. Generated occa-sional meanings create adiverse palette of speech tones (ironic, low, contemptuous, humorous, sar-castic, etc.), stipulating arange of emotions and feelings, representing axiological meanings with varying degrees of expression.

During the early thirteenth century, a story began to appear within texts associated with the Chan 禪 Buddhist movement, which portrays an encounter between the eminent transcendent Lü Dongbin 呂洞賓 and the Chan monk Huanglong Huiji 黃龍誨機 that results in Lü abandoning his alchemical techniques of self-cultivation and taking up the practice of Chan. This article traces the development of this tale across a number of Buddhist sources of the late imperial period, and also examines the ways in which later Buddhist and Daoist authors understood the story and utilized it in advancing their own polemical claims. Au début du treizième siècle apparaît dans les textes du bouddhisme Chan un récit qui met en scène une rencontre entre le célèbre immortel Lü Dongbin et le moine Chan Huanglong Huiji. Au terme de cette rencontre, Lü abandonne ses pratiques alchimiques de perfectionnement de soi et adopte celle de la méditation Chan. Le présent article retrace le développement de ce thème narratif au travers des sources bouddhiques de la fin de l’époque impériale, et examine la manière dont des auteurs bouddhistes et taoïstes ont compris le récit et l’ont manipulé en fonction de leurs propres objectifs polémiques.

Abstract Pronominal modes of address are an instance of the kind of structural incompatibility between languages which presents a considerable challenge to the translator. Indeed, they have been described as an "impossibility of translation" (Lyons). The structural contrast between English and most other European languages with regard to this feature has significant implications for literary translations, since address behaviour encodes social relations and thus functions as an important signal of unfolding interpersonal dynamics in texts. This article explores the implications of divergent address systems in the translation of dramatic discourse, using examples from French-English and English-German translation to illustrate the problems involved. In the first case, the absence of differentiated second-person pronouns in modern English means that other signals have to be found to encode the social dynamics of the text. In Sartre's subtle exploration of shifting human relations in Huis Clos/In Camera we witness a constant switching between the "tu" and "vous" forms of address as the characters seek to establish their roles. Translation into English inevitably results in a loss of explicitness and the introduction of alternative indices of interpersonal relations. In translation from English into German, on the other hand, as an analysis of Pinter's The Caretaker/Der Hausmeister demonstrates, selection between the "du" and "Sie"-forms becomes necessary, and a further level of differentiation is added to those available in the original. Here, pronominal choice presupposes a careful analysis of the dynamics of the text, and results in an explicitation of the attitudinal nuances of the original. In both cases, the process of translation implies a re-encoding based on the translator's individual conception of the source texts. The issue under discussion thus emerges as an archetypal feature of literary translation, showing how the latter manipulates texts by opening up some interpretive possibilities and closing down others. Résumé Les pronoms appellatifs sont un exemple du type de l'incompatibilité structurelle entre les langues qui représente un défi considérable pour le traducteur. En fait, ces pronoms ont été décrits comme une "impossibilité de traduction" (Lyons). Le contraste structurelle entre l'anglais et la plupart des autres langues européennes vis-à-vis de cet aspect a des implications significatives pour la traduction littéraire, car la façon de s'adresser encode des relations sociales et fonctionne donc comme un signal important d'ouverture des dynamiques interpersonnelles dans les textes. Cet article explore les implications des systèmes divergents d'appellation dans la traduction du discours dramatique, en utilisant des exemples de traduction français-anglais et anglais-allemand pour illustrer les problèmes. Dans le premier cas, l'absence de pronoms de la seconde personne différenciés dans l'anglais moderne signifie que d'autres signaux doivent être trouvés pour encoder la dynamique sociale du texte.
