Abstract:
The aim of this research was to study the suitability of a manometric respirometric test (OECD 301F) for the determination of biological oxygen demand (BOD) in domestic wastewater. This was done by comparing four different BOD tests (a manometric respirometric test, oxygen sensor determination, iodometric titration, and UV absorption measurement) and by evaluating the BOD7value after a short-term measurement applying the manometric respirometric test. Measurements were done in three dif-ferent laboratories. The respirometric test was performed well on municipal sewage, and the precision of results was good. There were minor deviations between BOD7values as determined by the different methods, but the deviations were not essentially big enough to have a practical impact. Evaluation of the BOD7value after two or three days' incubation by the respirometric method was shown to work well; average deviations between measured and evaluated values after three days' incubation were 5–18%. Hence, the manometric respirometric test proved to be a rapid and suitable tool for process control purposes.

Abstract:
Industrial additives eventually used for different purposes (antifoaming, cleaning, bactericides, antiscale, etc) are discharged to the wastewater treatment plant. The anaerobic toxicity of these commercial products is not provided by suppliers. A new manometric method is developed and tested to evaluate anaerobic toxicity or inhibition using four different commercial products. Antifoaming Cleron 6 (50–200 ppm), bactericide Divosan-forte (0.05–1.0% v/v), bleach (0.1–1.0% v/v) and cleaning agent Topax 66 (0.10–1.0% v/v). According to the different methods proposed in the literature, from the methane production rate, it is possible to calculate both methanogenic activity evolution and final substrate removal and quantify the potential inhibitory effect of commercial additives. The experimental method is simple and reliable.

Abstract:
A description is given of the method of remote detection of the existence or absence of leaks in functioning heat supply systems, developed on the basis of a two-alternative hypothesis. It is proposed to apply a method for determining the location and volume of leaks based on the use of energy equivalent. It is proposed to check the presence of a leak between static assessments of the state of heat supply systems according to the data of remote manometric survey, with the help of which a simultaneous interrogation of pressure sensors in the power nodes of the system under consideration is performed. In case of abrupt changes in the estimated parameters of the system, it is concluded that there is a leak. The results of a computational experiment are presented, compared with the results of calculating the parameters in the system based on the results of manometric survey.
