Abstract:

A textbook is still considered as main educational material for the dissemination of French cultural knowledge. This study therefore attempts to study the cultural aspect in the French for Foreign Language (FFL) textbook. The study is conducted using the qualitative descriptive method. The objects of this study are texts taken from a FFL textbook which are scattered in each chapter with different themes. The data are collected by classifying five dimensions of culture such as products, practices, perspectives, community, and people and are then analyzed using Moran's framework theory (2001). The results show that this manual was able to fill the categories of cultural aspects for its learners. This study should therefore contribute to the development of research on the textbooks’ evaluation. Keywords: Cultural Analysis, Culture, FFL, Textbook

Abstract:

Abstract:

ABSTRACT. While it is legitimate that each language-culture as a system has its defender who are careful to preserve it by gaining more space compared to other systems, the class of French as a foreign language, in the Algerian context, presents itself as one of the meeting places of languages and cultures, exchanges but also tensions, wanted by politicians as a place of defense and preservation. Knowing that the Algerian educational institution is concerned with the formation of personality, which is the first component of the overall profile, learners in the first name in charge first of all of the identity values deployed through the notion of Algerianism; Thus preserving the culture of the learners is preserving the algerianity of the latter. However, what and how can it contribute to the preservation of national identity interests through the teaching of a foreign language, the FLE? The results of the analysis of the French textbook of the third ASE showed that the educational institution proposes a teaching-learning of the FLE reduced of its cultural substance whereas the didacticians insist that one can not teach- Learn a language without her culture. Abstract:
Since foreign language textbooks are commercial, social and cultural products, their designs are influenced inevitably by textbook authors, consumers—teachers and students, the geopolitical environment especially and other factors. Therefore, foreign language textbooks are not only language teaching tools but also a kind of culture medium. Influenced by the Chinese authors’ identity and background, the French foreign language textbooks written by Chinese not only convey the foreign culture but also are involved in the local culture, which is shown in the textbook French edited by Ma Xiaohong. This set of textbook composed of four tomes is widely used and has an important influence in Chinese colleges and universities for the teaching of elementary and intermediate French. Based on the theories of anthropology of education, intercultural and evaluation, the present study focuses on the role of the foreign and native culture in the textbook, wondering how to negotiate the power relations between them in the textbook discourse. Focusing on the key concepts such as culture/civilization, representations, identity, otherness, (cross-) culture mediation, attitudes, etc., the paper analyzes the cultural and social connotations of the textbook in macro view as well as does the discourse analysis in micro view by using the appraisal theory in the functional linguistics in order to reveal the characteristics of the image construction of “We” (China) and “others”(France) in the textbook and the strategies for balancing these two competing entities. The paper also offers appropriate proposals to harmonize the relationship between foreign culture and native culture, especially in the culture mediation and the cultivation of the intercultural competence of learners, in the design of a foreign language textbook

Abstract:
This search will describe how images in the eight FLE [French as a Foreign Language] textbooks published in France are used, are culturally representative, and are of interest from semiological and pedagogical points of views. These images can be an efficient way to teach the French language and culture to foreign learners. Codes and signs can contain rich messages that will help communication on linguistic, cultural, and intercultural levels. The research for this paper has led to the following ascertainment—most of these images do not respond to the CEFR guidelines for updating foreign language-culture textbooks. Though the texts have evolved, the images have remained the same. They still serve only a secondary pedagogical role—to illustrate and provide information. Most of the time, they are superficial or show only clichés of France. There are exceptions, however. Some images portray contemporary French society. The first section of this paper will present the evolution of teaching methods in the field of FLE, the role of cultural representations within that teaching, the science of semiology and its elements, and the effect and messages that images can produce. The second section will concentrate on the analysis of the images—identifying them as pedagogical tools and discussing their cultural and pedagogical content. Each analysis will include a table of statistics

Abstract:
Language classes are made up of individuals involved in social and cultural layouts. Their identity is expressed and built in teaching learning sessions : this study questions the place occupied by gender into this paradigm. Gender is a concept which allows one to think sexuation, organization of gender categories and the effects of social gendered relations. This concept meets language textbooks for allophone adults : textbooks are conjonction points between the sociocultural context of targeted language and the participants of teaching-learning ; it conveys representations. How is the textbooks' discourse a result of gender politics, thus creating binary sex categories (men/women, masculine/feminine) and organizing these categories in a hierarchy (men>women, masculine>feminine)? An ensemble of quantified and qualitative analysis highlights gender in three FFL textbooks published in France (2012-2013) through characters performance and metalinguistic strategies. Interviews with authors and publishing houses show commercial, cultural and political parameters that are taken into account to determine a gender model. This study's conclusion aims at promoting didactical practices to build a non-sexist, non-cissexist and non-heterosexist teaching. This thesis tends to integrate gender concepts into didactics of languages and FFL, to enhance sociodidactics and think teaching-learnin~from a power's dynamics and idealogical tensions' point of view

Abstract:
After the reform of the Algerian education system in 2003, primary schools were provided with new textbooks but without any supporting documents. It is around the problem of the use of these tools alone in French as a foreign language classes that we decided to conduct our research, which consisted in examining whether teachers, faced with the renewal of the didactic discourse, were able to advantageously use their 3rd y p textbook within the framework of a curriculum approach. Based on the hypotheses that the reasoned pedagogical guide would benefit teacher training in the act of teaching, we considered it useful to base ourselves on two experiments. The first was to understand how teachers use their textbooks without a teacher's guide. The second was to understand the use of the same textbook, but with the help of a pedagogical guide that we had designed, and made available to the teachers selected for our research. . This was then in line with the logic of the comparative approach which, on the basis of the quadruplet of the game and the triplet of genesis, allowed us to validate our hypothesis that the pedagogical guide in an Algerian school context remains an essential tool for a better exploitation of the textbook for the benefit of French as a foreign language learning. However, we suggested that this auxiliary tool should be designed and strengthened more in line with the TACD in particular

Abstract:
This dissertation highlights the didactics of languages-cultures. It is based on a constitutive problem of our socio-historical moment: living together with an Other a lot closer to Oneself, and recognizing this Other as an Equal. This research work is not but an approach in a specific time and place: it is located in Brazil; it has as a backcloth a society very diversified in all senses, and it has as a scope the process of teaching-learning French as a Foreign Language related to college students in a public university in Minas Gerais state. Among the various vectors that the learner deploys in order to build representations of foreign countries and other cultures, we have chosen to verify the role of the textbooks used in the classroom as basic material to acquire knowledge of the foreign language and recognition of the francophone culture. The research questions we have posed in this regard were the following: - Do the textbooks of French as a Foreign Language go in the direction of building multicultural competence? - Does the French reality exposed in the contents of these textbooks depict France as a country open to other cultures? - Since the space represented is, most of the time, just the Hexagon, what about the francophone countries, where the language is used for historical, cultural or economic reasons? We propose an analysis of the role the actors play in the process of teaching-learning a foreign language. We thus present the textbooks highlighted for this work, notably regarding the cultural contents they encompass, divided into two categories: the diversity of spaces and places, and the social diversity. To render this study feasible, we have conducted surveys using questionnaires, so that we could reveal the content of the representations of the learners using the chosen textbooks

Abstract:
This research intends to make a double study of Greek textbooks for French as a foreign language: on the one hand it examines the history of these textbooks in Greece and on the other hand it records and analyses their cultural dimension. This flashback allows us to distinguish more clearly the books’ guidelines, to deduce their constancy, the common elements of the different eras as well as to compare and contrast this data. The textbooks are divided into two categories, the 19th century textbooks and those dating mostly at the first decade of the 21st century, more specifically those published between 1998 and 2008.We would like to point out by studying the birth of the French language teaching in Greece that there is an unbreakable connection between the introduction of French as a taught subject in the curriculum of the Greek public schools and the historical events of that time period. This study allows us to find the origins of disciplinarization of the French language teaching in Greece. The examination of the contemporary textbooks, which is based on the analysis of a selection of more than twenty textbooks used in primary and secondary Greek schools, focuses firstly on the role of image as culture conveyor in the textbooks and secondly on the way we could make the teaching cultural act clearer through the study of dialogues. It refers also to the question of the value of the dialogues we come across often in the textbooks as authentic or fabricated productions as well as to the metalanguage used by them. The recording of the cultural aspects in the textbooks of our selection allows us to develop a chart which analyses and evaluates those which are used in teaching French as a foreign language. This chart serves in comparing and contrasting the textbooks concerning the accuracy of specific points and in demonstrating the rubrics dedicated to cultural elements

Abstract:
This work fits into the broader study of languages and cultural didactics. This is the result of one Action-Research project of 6 years having taken place in several school contexts in Spain. Our main aim is to answer to the following questions: What place is offered to culture and literature by foreign languages teaching and learning methodologies for today? How could these skills be transmitted according to Spanish methods to teaching French as a foreign language? First of all the notion of culture will be considered as well as some of the several problems caused by it in the field of FFL in Spain.Secondly, we will analyse some of the reasons which make Personal literature a very rich source to teach culture in all its dimensions and in parallel with mother culture thought a corpus of M. Proust, R.Queneau, G. Perec and A. Ernaux. To finish, a few ideas so as to work around some texts of these authors will be given

AbstractThe Uruguayan Civil War (1839–1851), in which Brazil, France, Britain and the Argentine Confederation were involved, became an international conflict with humanitarian claims in favour of the besieged population of Montevideo with its prominent French community. General Juan Manuel de Rosas, governor of Buenos Aires with dictatorial powers, was allied against Montevideo, where many of his unitarian enemies had fled and where his regime was under attack through inflammatory newspapers and pamphlets. This chapter will examine the emotional strategies deployed by anti-Rosist dissidents in order to provoke a stronger involvement by France and Britain in support of Montevideo and the unitarians.

Abstract:
AbstractInterconnecting building information on multiple scales and lifecycle stages enables designers to improve their decision-making and tackle ecological, societal, and economical challenges. However, this information is often generated in different software tools, saved in different file formats, using a stakeholder’s own domain language, and is stored in decentral storage locations. This paper presents a tool that integrates data from different stakeholders into a single viewpoint. The tool – LBDviz – combines a browser-based IFC viewer and semantic web technologies to combine geometry with other data that falls outside the scope of the IFC schema. The tool is tested in multiple case studies. These case studies range from requirement checking during the design phase, generating design feedback during the operational phase, and maintaining building performance in a sustainable and economically viable manner. The results of these studies can be reused in future designs, stimulating a more circular design process. The method used in LBDviz enables the interconnection of data within and without the architectural design domain and reduces data interoperability challenges in many lifecycle phases of a construction project.

AbstractIn order to prevent and contain environmental pollution, protect consumers’ rights and interests and other public interests, China is now establishing a public interest litigation system step by step. Compared with the private interest litigation, the public interest to be protected by the public interest litigation is an aggregation of private interests. However, the public interest litigation does not exclude the private interest litigation. While the public interest litigation is going on, the parties concerned may also file a private interest litigation and take a “free ride” in such aspects as evidence on the public interest litigation. In China, it is mainly the various types of social organizations registered with the civil affairs department that have the right to initiate a public interest litigation. Besides, the procuratorates may also initiate a civil public interest litigation in addition to their function of initiating a public prosecution against a crime. Compared with the private interest litigation, the public interest litigation has some special features in terms of the litigation procedures. In addition, the Chinese law also requires the court to intervene in the litigation with a more proactive manner and give certain help and tips to the plaintiff if necessary, with an aim to maximize the protection of public interests.

In civil proceedings medical cases are considered, that is cases in the field of medical care, the peculiarities of proceedings in this category of cases are determined and general disputes arising from civil cases in practice are determined. Regulatory gaps have been clarified, proposals for improving the legislation of Ukraine have been developed and also practical algorithms that can be useful for ensuring human rights in the field of health care are highlighted. After conducting a study of the outlined issues, a number of conclu sions have been formed that may be useful for law enforcement and law application, when considering medical cases in civil proceedings and also for law making in the process of preparing a new edition of the Civil Procedure Code of Ukraine. The study has established that most of the problems that arise in practice are caused not so much by legislative shortcomings as by spectral legal understanding, and therefore, different approaches in the exercise of rights and application of the provisions of the legislation of Ukraine. The study has formed the following regulatory proposals to the Civil Procedure Code of Ukraine: 1) to amend Article 228 (1) of the Code of Civil Procedure of Ukraine to read as follows: «The court, having heard the opening remarks of the participants in the case, if necessary, their additional explanations, finds out the circumstances to which the participants in the case refer, as the basis of its claims and objections, and examines, in the manner prescribed in the preparatory meeting in the case, the evidence by which they are substantiated»; 2) change the name of the legal structure from “opinion of an expert in the field of law”, which is enshrined in paragraph 7 of chapter 5 of section 1 of the Code of Civil Procedure of Ukraine to advisory opinion of a specialist. The following practical advices on law implementation and enforcement in medical cases has been prepared:1) when conducting an examination in criminal proceedings, the expert’s conclusion will be evidence in civil proceedings in a medical case because it contains information about the subject of evidence in a medical case;2) the statement of the Article 82 (6) of the Code of Civil Procedure of Ukraine is uncontested and imperative, therefore, in all cases, the decision to close the proceedings and exemption of a person from criminal liability is the basis for exemption from proof in the question of whether these actions took place (inaction) and whether they are committed by that person;3) the Civil Code of Ukraine guarantees the right to compensation for damage caused by unlawful behavior in relation to both a family member and a close relative;4) family members and close relatives are entitled to compensation for non-pecuniary damage if the death of a relative is not in direct causal connection with the actions of medical workers, but the actions of doctors were illegal, during the life of the patient, illegal behavior was committed against him;5) father and mother will be entitled to compensation for non-pecuniary damage in case of intranatal and antenatal death of the fetus, when establishing the composition of the civil offense;6) in the absence of an autopsy or forensic autopsy, the case has a civil law perspective, therefore, family members or close relatives have the right to file a claim for compensation for moral damage if there is evidence of illegality of the actions of doctors.

Abstract:
One of the pulverized coal fired thermal power plants in India intended to find the root cause of frequent boiler tube failures in three 210 MW units. Operation & Maintenance history and feedback from plant O&M team revealed that economizer tube failure was a frequent cause of forced outage. The plant under study used CFS (continuous fin surface) economizer with staggered tube arrangement in the 210 MW units. CFS staggered tube economizers originally appealed to many plant designers because the tortuous path created for the flue gas, enhanced heat absorption and the fins could capture heat and transfer it to the tubing. This made the CFS economizer less costly and easy for installation in a relatively small space. There is increasing use of lower quality high ash coals over the past few decades. Due to this fact an advantage of the CFS economizer design became a disadvantage. The narrow spacing in the tubes proved more susceptible to plugging and fly ash erosion. Literature study and the root cause analysis suggested that CFS staggered arrangement of economizer could be one of the prominent reason of failure of economizer tube bundle due to fly ash erosion. Flue gas flow simulation also highlighted that there is increase in velocity of flue gases across the economizer. A bare tube in-line configuration in place of existing CFS economizer was an alternative. To recommend an alternate economizer as solution, the merits of an in-line bare tube economizer were studied. Bare tubes arranged in-line are most conservative in hostile environments with high ash content, are least likely to plug, and have the lowest gas-side resistance per unit of heat transfer. A bare tube in-line economizer that can replace the existing finned tube economizer in the available space while meeting the existing design & performance parameters is recommended. An attempt was made to model & analyze the new economizer using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools in order to get firsthand experience and validate the results obtained using manual calculations. With limited computational resources and not so fine meshing, the performed CFD model analysis showed the expected trend but did not completely match the results.

Abstract:
In general, there are two methods to pass on design information in a petrochemical plant design: the manual data key-in method and the file data transfer method. The manual data key-in method is a basic method to pass on data; but this method is time consuming to assign data in one by one fashion. The file data transfer method is a mapping file data from one program to another program under certain specific function and criteria. This paper starts with how to use a file data transfer method to create a stress analysis model, and then proposes an approach to transfer the stress analysis result to a structural analysis program by using the Pipe Loadings Transfer Program. In a piping design using 3D plant design software for modeling, the piping design information can be directly transferred to the stress input file by using point vectors to create a stress analysis model. The concepts of a pipe support vector and a beam vector were introduced to transfer the pipe loadings from stress analysis results to a structural analysis program. The advantages of using a file data transfer method are simple, fast, and accurate.

: The procedure of reading and processing data from measuring devices or sensors is often difficult due to the need for manual recalculation of the obtained data on the computer. In this work, the consumption of compressed air was read from the "AirBox" measuring device. When transferring the read data to the computer, they are converted into a CSV file format. Up to now, the processing of that data on the computer involves manual recalculation of the consumption by the user using the entered expressions for the consumption of compressed air. In order to avoid manual calculation of compressed air consumption, a user application was developed which, based on the received CSV file, determines consumption and provides graphical and textual accompanying explanations. At the end, the validation of the work results was carried out. Possible errors and the time required for calculation are reduced.

Abstract:
Product disassembly is critical to remanufacturing, reuse, and recycling activities, which are essential reverse flows in circular economy systems. While disassembly optimization and analysis methods are well developed, many of these methods rely on basic disassembly information, i.e. a precedence matrix. Obtaining this basic disassembly information is a non-trivial task that has, in the past, required extensive manual analysis of a product assembly. This process can be significantly improved by developing methods capable of automatically extracting disassembly data from CAD/CAM assemblies. If this can be achieved accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner, numerous disassembly optimization methods will become readily available to product designers. In pursuit of this aim, the objective of this research is to automatically extract part contact information from assembly models and determine disassembly operation feasibility. The described method uses CAD assembly STEP data as input, extracts disassembly relevant information such as, component surface contour type, Cartesian points, and normal direction of the surface, and determines the feasibility of disassembly of each component which is represented as a precedence matrix. Disassembly feasibility is evaluated using the contact function. A case assembly was tested and the precedence matrix was successfully determined for part contact disassembly constraints. Results of the research indicate that the method is capable of extracting disassembly data from CAD STEP assemblies but has critical limitations that must be overcome to be influential during design.

Abstract:
Additive Manufacturing (AM) based Printed Electronics (PE) is an emerging technique where electronic components and interconnects are printed directly on substrates using a layered technique. The direct printing of the electronic components allows large scale and ultra-thin components to be printed on a wide variety of substrates including glass, silicon and plastic. These attributes make AM based Printed Electronics an invaluable manufacturing technique in the area of electronic sensors and sensor networks where thin, flexible and rugged form factors are very important. However, currently this technology is a labor intensive and manual process with the machine operator using his experience and judgment to slice the CAD file of the part to create 2D layers at different levels. This manual process increases the overall production time as well as the cost of the product and also results in inconsistent quality of parts. A major challenge faced by existing AM based Printed Electronics users for automating this process is the lack of a standard input file format that can be used by different PE machines for producing the components in layers. To leverage the capabilities of both AM and PE processes, a new file format based on the Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG) technique is proposed in this research paper. This file format data will not only include CAD data in the form of CSG primitives and Boolean representation but will also include manufacturing information related to the AM based PE process. The manufacturing information embedded within this new format will include data about the location of the different electronic components such as interconnects, resistors, capacitors, inductors, transistors, memory and substrate, and the materials required for the different components part. Different circuit board components will be represented as primitives or a combination of primitives obtained using CSG technique. In addition to the new file format, a slicing algorithm will also be developed which can be used to create the layers automatically using user inputs. The proposed file format and the slicing algorithm will be explained with the help of a case study.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper investigates sequential Thermoforming and Flash Light Sintering (FLS) of conductive silver nanowire interconnects printed on planar polymer sheets. The resulting interconnect-polymer assemblies are pre-shaped to a desired 3D geometry and can be robustly attached to the surface. This approach avoids interconnect delamination in manual conformation of planar flexible electronics, eliminates heating of the 3D object in direct conformal printing, and enables easy circuit replacement. The effect of the forming strain and FLS fluence on the resistance of the interconnect are studied. The interconnect resistance increases after thermoforming but is reduced significantly by subsequent FLS. The resistance depends nonlinearly on the forming strain, interconnect thickness, and FLS fluence. With the optimal parameters found here this process achieves interconnect resistance of < 10 Ω/cm within 90.8 seconds at 100% maximum strain over a 1 square-inch forming area. Abstract:
We propose Torrente, a distributed file-sharing solution with economic incentives. Its implementation is built as an extension of BitTorrent protocol, in such a manner that user access to file-sharing swarms is controlled by peers that verify micropayments receipts in a blockchain-based ledger. In addition, by using payment commitments, Torrente facilitates off-chain transactions for faster content sharing. The solution is created as a tool to enhance Amazon Biobank application security, but can be used isolated in cases such as file sharing with monetary incentives.

Dick, Warren, Yona Chen, and Maurice Watson. Improving nutrient availability in alkaline coal combustion by-products amended with composted animal manures. United States Department of Agriculture, 2002. http://dx.doi.org/10.32747/2002.7587240.bard.

Abstract:
Hypothesis and Objectives: We hypothesized that coal combustion products (CCPs), including those created during scrubbing of sulfur dioxide from flue gases, can be used alone or mixed with composted animal manures as effective growth media for plants. Our specific objectives were, therefore, to (1) measure the chemical, physical and hydraulic properties of source materials and prepared mixes, (2) determine the optimum design mix of CCPs and composted animal manures for growth of plants, (3) evaluate the leachate water quality and plant uptake of selected elements from prepared mixes, (4) quantify the interaction between composted animal manures and B concentrations in the mixes, (5) study the availability of P to plants growing in the mixes, and (6) determine the microbial community and siderophores involved in the solubilization of Fe and its transfer to plants. Background: In recent years a major expansion of electricity production by coal combustion has taken place in Israel, the United States and the rest of the world. As a result, a large amount of CCPs are created that include bottom ash, fly ash, flue gas desulfurization (FGD) gypsum and other combustion products. In Israel 100,000 tons of fly ash (10% of total CCPs) are produced each year and in the US a total of 123 million tons of CCPs are produced each year with 71 million tons of fly ash, 18 million tons of bottom ash and 12 million tons of FGD gypsum. Many new scrubbers are being installed and will come on-line in the next 2 to 10 years and this will greatly expand the amount of FGD gypsum. One of the main substrates used in Israel for growth media is volcanic ash (scoria; tuff). The resemblance of bottom coal ash to tuff led us to the assumption that it is possible to substitute tuff with bottom ash. Similarly, bottom ash and FGD gypsum were considered excellent materials for creating growth mixes for agricultural and nursery production uses. In the experiments conducted, bottom ash was studied in Israel and bottom ash, fly ash and FGD gypsum was studied in the US. Major Achievements: In the US, mixes were tested that combine bottom ash, organic amendments (i.e. composts) and FGD gypsum and the best mixes supported growth of tomato, wheat and marigolds that were equal to or better than two commercial mixes used as a positive control. Plants grown on bottom ash in Israel also performed very well and microelements and radionuclides analyses conducted on plants grown on bottom coal ash proved it is safe to ingest the edible organs of these plants. According to these findings, approval to use bottom coal ash for growing vegetables and fruits was issued by the Israeli Ministry of Health. Implications: Bottom coal ash is a suitable substitute for volcanic ash (scoria; tuff) obtained from the Golan Heights as a growth medium in Israel. Recycling of bottom coal ash is more environmentally sustainable than mining a nonrenewable resource. The use of mixes containing CCPs was shown feasible for growing plants in the United States and is now being evaluated at a commercial nursery where red sunset maple trees are being grown in a pot-in-pot production system. In addition, because of the large amount of FGD gypsum that will become available, its use for production of agronomic crops is being expanded due to success of this study.

Abstract:
A systemic approach to identifying road locations that exhibit safety problems was provided by the Safety Needs Identification Program (SNIP and SNIP2) developed by the Purdue University Center for Road Safety (CRS). The new version SNIP Light has been developed to provide other uses with planning level traffic safety analysis capability for a wider range of uses including Metropolitan Planning Agencies (MPOs) who want the tool for planning cost-effective safety programs in their metropolitan areas. The SNIP Light reduces the demand of computing and data storage resources and replaces the SQL server database system an integrated module coded in-house which is considerably faster than the original component. Furthermore, certain proficiency required to install and use the old version is no longer needed thanks to the intuitive single-window interface and executing file operations in the background without the user’s involvement. Some operations, such as optimizing funding of safety projects, are removed to simplify the tool.
