However, with the recent introduction of low-emissivity (low-E) coatings and low/conductivity gas filling to respectively reduce radiative and conductive/convective heat transfer between glazing layers, some manufacturers are beginning to offer windows with R-values (resistance

This thesis discusses the visibility of glass in contemporary art. By "visibility," I mean the potential perceptual and epistemological character of the material that can undermine its understanding exclusively in terms of transparency. Glass may seem to lack visual interest because of its transparency; our focus apparently lies on the other side of a glass pane. Glass mediates between here and there, between the subject and the object, and between seeing and being seen, without calling attention to its mediation. The more invisible this mediating function of glass becomes, the less visible it

For this reason existing and long established practices in drawing, developed in relation to other materials, may not be as effective in realising or exploring those qualities which are particular to glass, whether ae

BIPV technology in Austria has historically developed with the support of different public financial incentives, national and European. The history of BIPV is som

Abstract:
The objective of the PRCI MATR-3-11 Composite Repair Load Transfer Study was to evaluate the effect of internal pipe pressure during installation of composite reinforcement systems. Historically, there has been little work evaluating the effect of internal pressure during installation, even though almost all composite installations on transmission pipelines are performed with internal pressure present in the pipe. The focus of this work was specifically limited to reinforcement of pipelines containing simulated corrosion anomalies. Five composite repair technologies from four composite manufac

The project focuses on developing glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composite pipes including a range of joining systems. A few of the many advantages of GFRP composite pipes are their non-corrosiveness, magnetic transparency, and high strength-to-weight ratio. As a part of this project, GFRP pipes and joints were designed, manufactured, and evaluated under static loads. Emphasis was placed in the evaluation of stress-rupture (burst pressure) of GFRP composite pipes that could withstand internal pressures as high as 5000 psi. The report also includes the design and testing of high-pressure

This report is a literature review of several non-metallic material systems often used as alter-natives to steel pipelines. The pipeline systems reviewed are high density polyethylene (HDPE), fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP), flexible composite and thermoplastic liners. This report is not intended to be a detailed guide or design manual on the use of the referenced materials for pipeline applications, rather an overall evaluation on the current state of these systems. Significant industry literature and documentation already exists on the design, manufacturing, installation, and operation o

Despite continuous improvements in the process over the years, the quality of AM parts remains a major concern for manufacturers. Today, researchers are starting to move from discrete geometry-dependent build parameters to continuously variable or dynamically changing parameters that are geometry- and scan-path aware. This a

This publication based on a master thesis explores the challenges of the automotive industry regarding the European chemical regulations REACH and CLP, as well as potential improvements of the current compliance activities and the related incentives and barriers. It answers the research question: "To what extent should the compliance activities of actors in the automotive supply chain be extended in order to meet the requirements of European chemicals regulation; and where would it help to strengthen incentives in enforcement and the legal framework?“. Inhomogeneous shading on the PV generator leads to disproportionately high losses. As the potential of PV generation on roofs or façades is to be increasingly utilised in the coming decades, these cases will occur more frequently. The aim here is to provide an overview of the challenges and state-of-the-art technical solutions for partial shading. Current developments in PV engineering show that maximum performance lies in the combination between optimised module placement, the use of modules that are tolerant of shading and optimised power electronics.
