Abstract:
"La thèse édite la version géorgienne des légendes hagiographiques de femmes ermites déguisées en moines ou de pécheresses converties. Les textes sont établis critiquement sur la base des deux recueils les plus anciens: celui de la Bibliothèque Bodléienne d'Oxford copié vers 1040 au monastère géorgien de Sainte-Croix à Jérusalem et le manuscrit A 95 de Tbilissi copié à Parxal en Tao-Klardjétie à la fin du Xe siècle. Chacun de ces témoins est confronté à l'ensemble de la tradition manuscrite. La traduction française vise à donner une image aussi précise que possible de toutes les particularités des versions géorgiennes. Une seconde partie de la thèse consiste en une étude textologique. Le géorgien est confronté aux rédactions grecques connues et aux autres versions orientales, notamment syriaques, arabes ou coptes. Il se révèle ainsi que l'original sur lequel elles ont été traduites représente un état plus ancien de la tradition manuscrite grecque que celui qui nous est parvenu. Le récit est généralement plus court et plus nerveux. Certains récits comme "La Vie de la prostituée d'Alexandrie" sont attestés en géorgien et en syriaque alors que l'original grec est perdu. Plus encore, le géorgien contient des calques de l'arabe. Les Vies étudiées sont les suivantes: Vie et pénitence de Thaïs L'Égyptienne, Vie de sainte Pélagie d'Antioche, Vie de sainte Marie l'Égyptienne (2 rédactions), Vie de saint Abraham et de sa nièce Marie, Vie d'une vierge qui était la fille d'un prince constantinopolitain, Vie de sainte Marine, Vie de la prostituée d'Alexandrie et Vie d'Anastasie la Patrice. Des tableaux synoptiques montrent les parallèles, nombreux entre ces textes. Un index complet (géorgien, grec) a été établi"
This thesis consists in an edition of hagiographical legends concerning women dressed up as male anchorites, or penitent prostitutes. The critical texts have been based on the most ancient manuscripts: one of them is currently kept in the Bodleian Library in Oxford. It was written in 1030 in the Georgian Monastery of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem. The other one is the manuscript A95 of Tbilisi, which was written in Parxal (Tao Klardzeti) by the end of the Xth century. Both of these collections have been carefully compared with all of the extant Georgian copies. The French translation aims at giving an accurate picture of all the particularities of the Georgian versions. A second part of the dissertation consists in a textological study. The Georgian has been compared with the extant Greek redactions, as well as with other essential redactions, mainly Syriac and Arabic. It appears that the Greek original from which the Georgian has been translated mirrors a more ancient stage of the Greek tradition than the extant manuscripts. Certain stories such as "The Life of the Alexandrian Prostitute" have been preserved in Georgian and Syriac, whereas the Greek original is no longer extant Moreover, the Georgian bears evidence of an Arabic substrate. The edited works are the hollowing: Life and Penance of the Thais the Egyptian; Life of saint Pelagia of Antioch; Life of saint Mary the Egyptian; Life of saint Abraham and his niece Mary; Life of a Virgin who was the daughter of the Constantinopolitan prince; Life of saint Marina; Life of the prostitute of Alexandria; Life of Anastasia, the Patrician. Synoptical tables display numerous parallels between the texts. The work is completed by a full Georgian-Greek index of the texts
