In 1976, the end of the Cultural Revolution quickly resulted in disillusionment among Hong Kong's Maoists, with organisational disintegration following soon after. However, most scholarship has overlooked the multiple factors resulting in the rise and fall of Maoist activism in Hong Kong. In order to investigate this conjuncture, this article centrally explores the early formation and internal structure of the Maoist community in Hong Kong, as well as the external factors of the political changes it experienced, such as the crucial moments of the 5 April Tiananmen protest, the fall of the Gang

The Soviet-Chinese contradictions and the subsequent split in the International Communist Movement in the early 1960s led to the emergence of new original leftist movements in Latin America, and in Mexico in particular. Maoism found fertile ground on the left flank of the Mexican political scene, primarily among the non-conformist, anti-bureaucratic part of the Communist Party, revolutionary-minded students and intellectuals, who were looking for effective methods of struggle against the authoritarian, one-party system in the country, and who saw in Maoism an instrument of revolutionary change

The issue of the Marxist character of “Mao Zedong Thought” has never really been resolved. The present work is a comparative analysis of the classical Marxism of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels and the ideology of Mao Zedong. The argument is made that whatever Marxism there was in Maoism was the “creatively developed Marxism” of V. I. Lenin–which allowed for socialist revolution in retrograde economic circumstances–something that had been specifically rejected by Marx and Engels. That led to the theoretical idiosyncrasies that characterized Maoism throughout its history, and ultimately resulted

This holds true for design problems which are MaOPs by nature due to the inherent complexity and multifaceted nature of real-life applications. In the last decades, many strategies have attempted to overcome MaOPs such as removing objectives based on their impact on the optimization. However, from a design perspective, removing objectives could lead to an under optimal, unfeasible or unreliable design
