Full textThis dissertation provides an analysis of the political entanglement of African ritual performances, by discussing the historical transformations of mapiko, a masquerading tradition of Northern Mozambique. From late colonialism to post-socialism, the public performance of mapiko is an arena in which complex forms of social critique are produced, and identities negociated and enacted. Based on oral history, extended ethnographic fieldwork, audiovisual recording, archive research, and on a corpus of about a thousand songs connected to the different genres of the masquerade, the dissertation constitutes a contribution to scholarship on ritual, aesthics and state power in Africa. It also provides a critique of notions, inspired by colonial museography, of indexing traditional/rural African expressive culture as timeless and impersonal, by ethnographicaaly detailing the complex interplay between inherited forms and individual agency in the invention of new genres and masks

Abstract: Mapiko is a cultural expression of Maconde¿s people original from Cabo Delgado¿s province on the north of Mozambique. Mapiko is the traditional cultural expression and the mask used on it. This expression brings together music, dance and scene. Surrounded by mystery and secrecy; to the sound of drums and traditional song, the masquerade holds his dance. The expression has its base on the imaginary of Maconde¿s people who appropriates the spiritual world, creating the belief of the existence of a logical link between the masquerade dancer and his beliefs. Trough art, Mapiko makes possible the representation of different ways of being in the spiritual life. It uses the power of its stories and its everyday aspects conveying in each dance its beliefs. The present work addresses the aspects of Mapiko such as its origins, tradition, songs, drumming, masks and particularities in the dance performed by the masquerade. The research also reflects on issues about the secrets, mystery and limits of the academic research about the theme. The dissertation begins with the description of the fieldwork in 2014 in Mozambique and explores its discoveries and difficulties. The work propose the reader to dive into Mapiko¿s universe, along with its mysteries, colours, aromas, images and flavours of Maconde¿s people. A DVD accompanies the dissertation which contains a documentary about Mapiko and the learning process experienced by the actress-researcher in Mozambique

Abstract: In this work, we say and show, by a "de-structured" way, that is, a non-linear path by Academy standards, that school is a farce! We drink from the source of Deleuze (1988), who presents the word learn as verb, that is, as the action in which the individual takes the knowledge for himself. Cartographies and narrative maps were used to approximate the process of thinking and learning in School Mathematics. Elaborated from the immersion of six months within a state school in the inland of São Paulo, we could observe a second year high school class where some students use YouTube and WhatsApp to ask questions about Mathematics. Another point that we raised was what practices and tactics the teacher used within the classroom. Another practice found at the school was the absence of students on Fridays. We also noted that it was "natural" to have a classroom map and the use of a uniform. We could observe that it was not only math that students learned in this class. They learned "rules", "regulations", "classifications" and "subjectivation". We present practices of insurrections to the instituted power. To describe the movements described above we conducted interviews with eight students and data from our field diary

Full textDuring the last years a great effort has taken place to create a common IT-strategy within the Swedish national police board. This to establish a foundation for decision making concerning strategy principles was formed on the activity. The principles describes how the technical architecture is going to be developed and shapes the major rule and direction that’s makes the decision possible. To investigate and use products that is used already within the organisation shall primary take in consideration. Also is the usage of established industrial standards important to create cooperation and exchange between application and platforms. The choose of programming language Java and the service oriented architecture is a direct cause of the IT-strategy and was adopted to make the organisation to be platforms independent
The purpose with this master thesis has been to draw up specifications of the demands for a developing tool for geographic information system (GIS) that are in line with the IT-strategy and in collaboration with affected personal on the Swedish national police board. A comparison study has been the procedure to examine the choice of GIS solution for similar organisations and it has been guiding in the work with specification of demands. In the first phase only the demands on Java have been significant on closed and open source software that has been investigated. Next the chosen developing tools has been verified against the specification of demands and resulted in a recommendation. Although the Swedish national police board doesn’t have an official policy for open source products the proposal of the software GeoTools is going to be feasible after up coming investigation about open source software is finished. Concerning the proposal for closed software has ended up in alternative solutions depending on short or long term solutions. MapXtreme Java and Oracle Spatial consider being equivalent alternitivs for a long term solution while MapObjects Java considers being appropriate choice for a short term solution.

Full textMapiko is a dance that is practiced in northern Mozambique. This dance is usually associated with the rites of passage from youth to adulthood. Over time Mapiko has undergone several mutations according to the social, cultural and economic changes in the community. The adaptation described in this paper came out of many years of theatrical practice and research into the traditional values of Mozambique. The aim was o produce a theatre experience which has cultural elements that could be recognized by Mozambicans and which would link them to modern, contemporary and perhaps post-modern theatre techniques. the resulting play made use of elements of Mapiko dance, playback theatre and the text "We killed Mangy-Dog" written by Luis Bernardo Honwana.
This work proposes as its main goal, the study of social and cultural anthropological characteristics of the most striking Malone race. It was intended to know and understand the reasons for the existence of certain rituals such as dental mutilation, female and male initiation, the Mapiko, body scarification, tattoos and other identity characteristics and draw analogies with other ethnic groups of Bantu linguistic matrix and different geographical areas. The theme development was supported by the triangulation of the following data: interviews with academic experts, local elders, direct observation of the author and the literature review of relevant documents in the anthropology, history, social and political sciences. This work was born because, the author wanted to deepen their knowledge on the Makonde people and in particular on the practice of dental mutilation, as an expression of identity of the Makonde people. The Makonde are a people proud of themselves, their roots, traditions and culture. Some of their rituals no longer have the strength and rigor of the past, however, continue to be an opportunity for socialization and a way to teach young people to preserve and recreate the art of their ancestors. Today, dental mutilation is a practice abandoned. However, the Makonde have managed to maintain their identity. To do so, has greatly contributed the sculptural art and the power of dance Mapiko.
