Full textThis thesis deals with the issue of political participation, which continues to be at the core of the debates on the functioning and ends of democratic institutions in the emerging democracies as well as in the consolidated ones. Focussing specifically on elections and political participation in Niger and leaning on the case of the city of Maradi, it analyses the scope and extent of the masses participation in the political activities and evaluates its impact on the power relations, the circulation of the elites and the decision making process. The study delivers therefore ananalytical description of the electoral competitions, presents their results in the light of deterministic and strategic models ; observes the evolution of the political forces within the city of Maradi as well as their interactions with the national level ; and examines, relying on field investigations and especially the discussions undertaken and the exploitation of questionnaires administred, what voting means to the populations under study and how they perceive elections, political participation and the on going democratization process in general

Full textNiger is a country with an agro-pastoral vocation. In this context, the 1st part of this work proposed to study the dynamic of the dairy sector in the region of Maradi. Our analyzes showed that, despite the heterogeneity of the herds, the dairy sector was organized around cattle herds. Goat and camel milks were poorly valued. Individual processing units that used cow’s milk to make artisanal products mostly provided dairy products. The urban distribution of these products was mainly at the neighborhood shops and traditional markets. The consumption of dairy products in Maradi was influenced by the age of the consumers, their marital status and their purchasing power. Despite a good appreciation of the dairy products supply in the region, our study highlighted consumer interest in new dairy products, including wagashi cheese. The 2nd part of our work was thus devoted to the study of the milk coagulation by the extract of Calotropis procera, a key step in the manufacture of wagashi cheesWe have shown in this section that the type of milk, the temperature and the dose of coagulant influenced the coagulant activity of the leaves extract of Calotropis procera while the variation of the pH and the addition of calcium ions had no effect. The proteolysis study by RP-HPLC coupled with MS / MS showed that this coagulation was due to a nonspecific hydrolysis of casein ¿ A. The homogenization of manufacturing milks, by creating interactions between fat and milk proteins, had improved manufacturing yields. The curds thus obtained were harder, more brittle and less sticky than those pr

Full textThe purpose of this work is to show the influence of Islam on the Niger educational system (Case Study: Maradi city). Due to the fact that Niger is one of the poorest countries in the world, this makes it difficult for the country to afford for a good educational system. The country is quite obliged to take into consideration Islamic Education to complete its population’s education, which is not easy to do because of some major difficulties to be faced in such a case (lack of investigations, descriptive studies, poverty of research, negligence). In fact, for the few past years, a tendency to modernize coranic schools is noticeable. Also, a rise of integrism in the civil society with the help of some foreign countries and their influence, which creates clashes between formal and informal education; religious science and profane science which seeks to solve problems through intelligent and Rational means to avoid intolerance, integrism, obscurantism or fundamentalism. We also studied the Islamic education in Niger historically and pedagogically at different levels, from the family to Coranic School up to the Medersa and even at the higher level. We asked ourselves the following questions. What are the reasons for such a rise of integrism in a laic country? Why do people refer so much to religion to justify any phenomenon, be it religious, political, natural or economic in the society? How do authorities do to face it? What are the reasons of such a phenomenon? What should authorities do to face it? What can the advantage in a globalization and modernisation context socially, Politically, Economically in the contemporary Niger? What are the impacts of religious education on a non homogenous population in terms of religious? And then, how should we improve this Kind of education to help in the Socio-Economic development of Niger in general and that of Maradi in particular?

Full textThe "zonal" model of development applying to Sahel, organise the space in distinct territories, isolated from each other, occupied by population with their own exclusive way of life ; the state, as the main character of the "rural area development" in Sahel, is based on that model. District or region management for the plan to which the technician (project and N. G. O. ) often refer, put forward the study of physical potentialities of the areas from which they establish strict agro-ecological deferenciation that is the base for the organisation od development pproject. However, Sahel is a space that is not viable without exchanges and movement of population ; "solidarity and complementarity between the different areas organise theirselves better on a network of meridian relations much more than in a latitudinal opposition" That is what Retaillé calls the sahelian model of development ; that is the model he has described in 1982, basing his studies on the koutous area and Zinder district in the centre-east Niger. This is the model we wanted to check and validate in the Maradi area, central Niger

Full textPsychological difficulties are sometimes difficult to assess during a medical consultation by a non-specialist (psychologist, psychiatrist). This is especially the case when it comes to young children, in humanitarian intervention contexts, entailing an insufficient answer to the needs of mental health care. The lack of cross culturally validated tools that meet the requirement of such intervention, fast and simple to identify the needs combined with a lack of professional involve difficulties even impossibility of implementing appropriate care. In this study, we implemented a cross cultural validation of a screening tool for psychological difficulties in humanitarian context for children aged 3 to 6 years old, the PSYCa 3-6 (Psychological Screening tool for Young Children aged 3 to 6 years old). This tool was originally created and developed during a humanitarian intervention; its content has been refined and modified along its use. The main validation took place in Niger, and two additional validations have been implemented in Colombia and Kenya. In total, 888 children aged 3 to 6 years were recruited between October 2009 and February 2012. Qualitative research has been also implemented to collect information regarding the local perception of psychological difficulties, prior to the validation. Quantitative research has focused on the psychometric and clinical properties of the tool. The three versions, Hausa, Spanish and Swahili showed adequate psychometric and clinical qualities including a good concurrent validity, scores being correlated with the gold standard. Qualitative research was used to refine and to strengthen the results. To our knowledge, this is the first validation of a screening tool for preschool children including a cross cultural component for use in several humanitarian contexts. Such tools, cross culturally validated in several contexts, are a key component to promote access to mental health care for children, often not on the list of priorities during the interventions
