Full textThe Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin lagoon in Guadeloupe (French West Indies), enclosed inshore by mangroves and seaward by a coral barrier reef, is colonized by turtlegrass beds (Thalassia) wich is associated with a rich juvenile ichtyofauna. The ichtyological community structure living in these seagrass beds has been studied in relation to environmental descriptors. Multivariate analysis (clustering, ordination, chronological clustering) has been carried out in order to define spatial, temporal and bioassociative community structures. The relation between ichtyofauna and environmental factors (habitat descriptors, physical and chemical characteristics, plankton) has been studied by (1) a stepwise discriminant analysis in order to explain spatial community structure, (2) multiple linear regressions to explain ichtyological richness and abundance. The most discriminant environmental factors found in this study are (1) nutritive descriptors (plankton, nitrates) and (2) habitat descriptors (blade length, turbidity)

Full textThis dissertation presents an examination of the devotion to Mary in the Brazilian culture, by analyzing aspects of epithets that prevail on songs of praise. This study is based on the criteria of interpretative analysis aimed at contributing to the understanding of Marian hymns of the present, as not many researches on her epithets can be found in scientific literature. The analysis is done through the classification of the types of epithets identified. From this investigation, it is possible to realize that the concept of a liberating Mary is greatly exposed in the hymns created along the time, as a great amount of poems of a liberating sense were verified. Mary is quoted as a real protector of the people in the songs analyzed, and the authors of these songs of praise refer to a saint who is closer to current problems faced by society. The epithets make clear that difficulties that the humble people face at the present are obviously remembered and mostly focused in the Marian texts with the aid of the epithets presented.

Full textIn this PhD thesis, we suggest a method which globally models every kind of movement with linear combinations of orthogonal polynomials. In order to do that, we project each vector field, which represents the studied motion, onto an orthogonal basis of Legendre's polynomials. So, we achieve a polynomial expression of this movement. A low-order modelling permits to give a physical interpretation to the dominant motion of the image sequence. This feature is interesting for applications like visual surveillance, indexing or behaviour study. We prove that our method can also model complex motions like fluid flows. The polynomial representation, the low-time computing and the high compression rate have a significant pratical importance to analyse this kind of data

Full textThe modification of carbon substrates by chemical functions significantly affects the surface properties of the material. These changes can be carried out by different methods: oxidation of the support, or grafting of molecules by reduction of a synthon. This last method seems more attractive because it helps to maintain the integrity of the support. The realization of grafted layers on carbon surface is carried out by reduction of diazonium or iodonium ions. This reduction results in the formation of radicals, which react with carbon surface to form a covalent bond. This method allows grafting a large variety of molecules; by selecting appropriate terminal groups it is possible to change different characteristics of the active layer of PEMFC electrodes, such as the hydrophobic / hydrophilic properties, platinum / support interactions and ionic conductivity. In this context, thiophenol grafted layers were realized to strengthen the anchorage of platinum nanoparticles on carbon support, limiting the migration of nanoparticles in course of sintering process. Carbon functionalized with benzenesulfonic acid groups and trifluoromethylbenzene groups were used to adjust the wettability of active layers, in order to improve water management in fuel cells. Grafted layers of alkynyl groups with ionic end functions could also be performed to confer ionic conductivity (protons or hydroxyls) to the catalyst support, in order to improve the use of catalyst in fuel cell electrodes
