Abstract:
This article attempts to offer a critique of cultural critic D. R. Nagaraj’s theoretical approach to the analysis of contemporary Dalit literature. According to Nagaraj, contemporary Dalit literature is a literature of decultured Dalits which articulates rights and entitlements in liberal polity. Rejecting claims of a separate aesthetics for Dalit literature, he locates Dalit literary contributions in the broad sphere of Indian culture and argues for a new aesthetics for Indian culture. His aim is to recover from the Indian tradition the civilizational contribution of Dalit writers, such as folk and oral cultural forms. This framework undermines the theoretical innovation and aesthetic significance of contemporary Dalit literature. Proposing Dalit literature as a form of contemporary politics in the sphere of modern Indian literary culture, Marathi Dalit critic and writer Baburao Bagul presents Dalit literature as a modern, written, and Ambedkarite tradition that reconfigured modernity, invented new modes of writing, and imagined Dalit as a generic identity, lived experience, and perspective in modern Indian literary history. Dalit literature is human and democratic, Bagul argues, as it draws on the humanist legacy of Buddha, Christ, Phule, Ambedkar, and also the Western Enlightenment. A reading of some Dalit texts, following the discussion of Bagul, illustrates the limitations of Nagaraj’s approach.

Abstract:
Vijay Tendulkar (1928-2008) is considered a prominent Indian playwright, movie and television writer, literary essayist and social commentator primarily in Marathi in the twentieth century. The playwright acquaints the readers or the audience with the Indian socio-cultural milieu through the journey of characters in Silence! The Court is in Session. This paper aims at analyzing the perceptions of the people towards women in a male-dominated, patriarchal society. The paper will analyze that whether social sanctity, morality, ethics, values are applied to both genders i.e. man and women with the same lenses or favours any of them. If there are dual standards for measuring the character of an individual based on gender, how can one hope for justice? This paper will give an expression to the silenced, the hushed up, the repressed, the suppressed and the oppressed voices, liberating the women while interrogating the male-chauvinistic world.

Abstract:
Dalit literature has been a major cultural artefact in the struggles against caste-based oppression and discrimination. It negotiates a collective identity for Dalits as well as introduces the variability in the negotiations for the same. The present paper focuses on the nuances of one such negotiation- the making of a Hindi Dalit writer. At the theoretical backdrop of cultural psychology, utilizing the conceptual machinery of Zittoun, the paper analyzes the autobiographical narrative of Om Prakash Valmiki. It identifies the ruptures and the transitional processes in Valmiki’s life. These processes of transitions include identity redefinition, knowledge and skills; and meaning making. These processes were facilitated by varied resources like social, cognitive and symbolic. The relocation to the city led to the change in his frame of activity. Afterwards, at each stage of his life, his social circle got broadened, his cognitive skills got enhanced and symbolic resources were used at progressively higher level of reflexivity. The major social resources were found to be the people with whom he came in contact after relocating to the city. The cognitive resources were found to be Hindi mainstream literature, Marathi Dalit literature and theatrical devices. The symbolic resources were the works of Phule, Ambedkar and Marx. Accessibility and utilization of all these resources eased the reconfiguration of the semiotic prism reifying his identity as a Hindi Dalit writer, thereby, enabling him transform the caste-based experiences on the plane of fiction challenging the power hierarchy embedded in social reality.

Abstract:
Tafsir Muqaran is the interpretation of the Qur'an that compares the interpretation of some verses. Lafadz muqarran comes from the Arabic word: (المقارنة) which means comparison. • The al-muqarran interpretation method that the writer intended here is as known to al-Farmawi as a method of interpretation of the Qur'an by introducing verses of the Qur'an 'written by a number of muqirirs, wherein a mufasir compiled a number of verses of the Qur'an, then writes and examines the interpretation of a number of verses about the verse through their tafsir books. Are they interprets from the generation of salaf or khalaf, whether they are interpreted bi al-matsur, or tafsir bi ra'yi. • • In this case the writer will compare between Ibn Katsir's interpretation and al-Maraghi about Q.S. al-Isra ': 1. From the tafsir method of al-muqarran here the writer wishes to examine and try to make a comparison of the direction and tendency between tafsir ibn katir and maraghi and try to analyze what is their background, so their tendency can be clearly seen whether it is only inclined with the aspects of i'rab and balaghah, stories and events that are irrational without aqli and naqli arguments, or a tendency to one of the schools or they are affected by ideas of natural science or other scientific theories.

Abstract:
Feminist movements and Dalit feminist movement in India are mainly based on the experience of Repression and gender discrimination. Patriarchy, gender disparity and sexual violence are the basic reasons for these movements and they also find place prominently in the writings of Dalit women as they have come forward to write their experiences from women's point of view around 1980s. Baby Kamble, Urmila Pawar in Marathi, Geeta Nagabhushan in Kannada, P. Shivakami, Bama in Tamil have got national level consideration. Dalit women were raped; insulted and abused by the upper caste people. They are insecure in the society as they have been exploited on the various levels. This feeling of insecurity of the Dalit women is the central theme of their writings. These women writers have come forward to express their ideas, their experiences in social violence as well as in domestic violence and thus they protest their traditional existence with anger and anguish. Geeta Nagabhushan’s dalit novels, Barna’s Sangati (2005), P. Shivakani's Grip of Change (2006) are initial important writings of dalit feminism; Datit feminism writing is different from the conventional way of Feminist writing. Their experiences, expression, method of narration are extremely different from the upper caste women writers. It is found that every woman in the world has been degraded to second grade citizenship. The Dalit women in India suffer more due to their Dalit identity.

This study is descriptive explaining the development of the new General and Administration technique in relation with allocation of expenses into several Production Sharing Cost (PSC). From the observation done by the researcher it was shown that the general and administration technique Project Admin (Drilling and Exploration Departments) from Support Admin (Non-Drilling and Exploration Departments) as required by SKKMIGAS. Moreover, SKKMIGAS also required the time to be allocated usin man-hours. This has also been achieved by the new Marathon procedure. Marathon even made further innovations, by designating only several Departments need to be time-writers. The non time-writers will be allocated according to the result of the time-writers. this is useful in order to provide better information regarding the work for each concession. Therefore, the new method has fulfilled SKKMIGAS requirements and is also in line with the ring-fence policy

Abstract:
In recent years, the sociolinguistic theory of code-switching and code-mixing has been a source of great interest among scholars worldwide. The phenomenon is common in such multilingual societies as India. Most known cases of code-switching are, however, restricted to the spoken form, in which English is liberally interspersed with such regional languages as Hindi, Marathi, and Telugu. What has not yet significantly caught the attention of scholars is the notion of such switching and mixing in print. This practice is however particularly prevalent among writers in popular magazines, who resort to written code-switching for a variety of reasons. The present paper endeavours to examine the causes of the popularity of this style of writing in the light of some accepted theories of multilingualism.

Full text
Abstract:
The book The Subhedar’s Son: A Narrative of Brahmin-Christian Conversion from Nineteenth-Century Maharashtra is based on an annotated translation of the Marathi book Subhedārāchā Putra written in 1895 by Rev. Dinkar Shankar Sawarkar. This book explores the experience of Christian conversion among Brahmins from the earliest Anglican missions of the Bombay Presidency (Church Missionary Society) established in the nineteenth century. Investigating how Brahmin converts counterbalanced social and family ostracism and accusations of procolonialism by retaining upper-caste and Marathi identity, this book demonstrates how retaining multiple identities facilitated Christian participation in the early nationalist and reformist intellectual movements of Maharashtra. Further, Brahmin Christians contributed to the burgeoning vernacular literary market as authentic rationalists and modernists, who countered atheism and challenged Hindu social-religious reform as inadequate. Not only did early vernacular Christian literature contribute to the precipitation of knowledge on ‘religion’ in colonial Maharashtra, as sets of dichotomized ideas and identities, but converts also transcended these dichotomized binaries by staging ‘conversion’ as a discursive activity straddling emergent religious, ethnic, and caste differences. Discussing whether nineteenth-century Marathi upper-caste converts constituted an ethnic community, the book explores how interstitial identity between multiple and ascribed ethnicities in colonial Maharashtra produced Brahmin Christians as a political minority whose demographic strength dwindled with the independence of India. Their presence today, elicited only within the history of vernacular literature from nineteenth-century Maharashtra, reveals how converts sought to integrate themselves with both Marathi and Christian society by rearticulating Christian devotion within Indic frameworks of Bhakti.

Abstract:
Having won acclaim with his receiving India’s highest literary honour, the Sahitya Academy Award, he set his sights on encouraging Dalit writers and thinkers to express themselves in their own words, helping them find their own authentic voices, without regard to the vast literature that was essentially canonical and brahminical in origin. He hoped that this would help heal the wounds that the Untouchables felt deeply as a result of the deprivations that they had experienced for generations. At the same time, he also pointed to the varied and opposing interpretations of stories and parables from the great Indian epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata. His distillation of the vast span of Vedic and Vedantic literature offered depth and meaning extending from the ancient Sanskrit to the contemporary nascent Dalit literature. Marathi Dalit literature blossomed during this time and saw extraordinary growth. He expanded his analysis and thinking into other creative realms including the aesthetics of art, poetry, and drama.

Abstract:
Chapter 3 fast forwards to the post-war years and the period of reconstruction, which featured rapid economic growth in both Italy and Japan. The chapter considers the writings of Fosco Maraini, Goffredo Parise, Alberto Moravia and Italo Calvino through the ideological framework of continuity and change that was widely debated in Japan at the time of its rapid modernization. The chapter main argument is that the perceived Japanese model of societal evolution, based on a relation of continuity with the country’s past and tradition, played a central role in the writing of Italians traveling to Japan in this period by virtue of generating a contrast with the Italian model of evolution, which was predicated upon rupture and displacement. The conclusion of the chapter advances the hypothesis of a neo-exotic wave of interest toward Japan, predicated upon post-Marxist intellectuals’ quest for areas of the world that (unlike Europe) had not yet fallen under the ideological and cultural dominion of the Cold War’s bipolar order.

Abstract:
Authoring popular books presents both pros and cons for researchers. It will increase your visibility as an authority in your field, making it easier for you to get the attention of important lay audiences and even your colleagues, but it requires the discipline to spend years researching, writing, and going through the long publishing process. To be successful, a book must be based on a marketable idea that features having something new to say, telling an engaging story, and having a broader point. For researchers, collaborating with a professional writer has both advantages and pitfalls. Writing a book requires the literary equivalent of training for a marathon. It will also require attracting an agent or publisher, which involves writing a query letter and proposal. Authoring a book also means committing to publicizing it.

Abstract:
The Republic of Niger is a landlocked country found in West Africa. It is bordered by Libya, Chad, Nigeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Algeria. Its location places it in a turbulent region rife with political and religious violence, separatist and armed movements, intercommunal violence, and state collapse. Niger is over 1 million square kilometres (km) making it the largest country in West Africa and sixth largest in Africa. Its population in 2017 was estimated to be 21.5 million. Over 80 per cent of the land area lies in the Sahara Desert. Most people, around three-quarters of the population, live in the southern part of the country (around 12 per cent of the land area) where agriculture is possible. The capital and largest city, Niamey, has over 1 million inhabitants. Other important cities are: Agadez, Arlit, Tillabéry, Dosso, Tahoua, Maradi, Zinder, and Diffa. The population is, however, mainly rural with only 18 per cent of the population living in urban areas. The currency used is the West African franc (CFA). The official language is French and there are ten national languages. Before the courts, French is the admissible written language. Sentences are rendered in French.

Abstract:
After DDT, EDF’s next pesticide targets were aldrin and dieldrin, both made by Shell Chemical Company. We had sought to block a dieldrin application in Michigan in late 1967, shortly after EDF was founded. That action was partly successful, delaying the application for many months and resulting in the application of less dieldrin. EDF was often accused of being against all pesticides, but that was never true. We were against DDT and several other persistent chlorinated hydrocarbons. Those pesticides were uniquely hazardous because they lasted for many years, traveled freely in the environment, and were ingested by animals and humans everywhere. They were very damaging to wildlife and—as we discovered along the way—they posed cancer hazards to humans. We were also against a purely chemical approach to pest control because integrated control techniques were more effective in controlling pests and contaminated the environment with less chemicals. We had a short list of pesticides that we identified as “bad actors”—all of which were persistent chlorinated hydrocarbons—and we eventually succeeded in getting all of them banned, although this took several years and an immense effort by our attorneys and scientists. On October 16, 1970, EDF filed a legal petition with HEW requesting the establishment of zero-tolerance levels for aldrin and dieldrin in human foods. The petition was written by attorney Edward Berlin and included a comprehensive review affidavit by me with numerous scientific references (Wurster, 1971). A few weeks later, pesticide regulation was transferred from HEW to the new EPA, and from then onward the action was pursued through EPA. I was not present during the hearing that followed. Instead Dr. Ian C. T. Nisbet, then the director of science for the Massachusetts Audubon Society, provided scientific support and attended the hearing. He wrote the next two sections (on aldrin and dieldrin and on heptachlor and chlordane), in which he describes what followed. On March 18, 1971, EPA issued notices of cancellation for all registrations of aldrin and dieldrin (A/D), but the marathon hearings did not begin until July 1973.
