In the context of global energy shortage and climate change, developing local biogas plants coupled with agricultural systems can become an important strategy for cleaner rural energy and sustainable agriculture. In this research, a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method was applied to compare the climate impact of two essentially different systems: 1) Scenario I: an agricultural system based on the cultivation of 11 hectares of energy tobacco primarily for seed production; 2) Scenario II: a hypothetical Scenario Investigating the climate impact concerned with a crop variety – a higher yielding va

The inorganic carbon pump relies on the formation of calcium carbonate which releases CO2 into the surface ocean and traps alkalinity in solid form which sinks to deeper ocean layers and sediments. The net effect is of acidifying surface oceans and encouraging release of CO2 to the atmosphere. The present thesis focuses on marine teleost (bo

Abstract:
America’s victory in World War II came from a number of successes such as production of war materiel, technological advances, and national mobilization on levels not seen before or since. America went into the war behind the Axis Powers both militarily and economically. The Great Depression had a devastating effect on merchant ship building in the United States during the 1930’s. In response, the U.S. Congress passed the Merchant Marine Act of 1936, which created the U.S. Maritime Commission whose mission was to modernize and build ships for the looming world war. Originally slated to build fi

Abstract:
There is an increasing need for renewable energy sources to replace fossils fuels which accumulate harmful byproducts in the environment. Biodiesel emits less gaseous pollutants than diesel. There are various sources for biodiesel but they are unable to meet the existing demands for fuel. Microalgae are a promising source for biodiesel because of its relatively faster growth rate, availability, and lipid content. Microalgae (JC and BT) growing in local water bodies were collected, selected on section media containing antibiotics, and used for characterizations. Experiments were conducted to st
