Abstract:
Abstract It is proved that for an IC abundant semigroup (a primitive abundant semigroup; a primitively semisimple semigroup) S and a field K, if K 0[S] is right (left) self-injective, then S is a finite regular semigroup. This extends and enriches the related results of Okniński on self-injective algebras of regular semigroups, and affirmatively answers Okniński’s problem: does that a semigroup algebra K[S] is a right (respectively, left) self-injective imply that S is finite? (Semigroup Algebras, Marcel Dekker, 1990), for IC abundant semigroups (primitively semisimple semigroups; primitive abundant semigroups). Moreover, we determine the structure of K 0[S] being right (left) self-injective when K 0[S] has a unity. As their applications, we determine some sufficient and necessary conditions for the algebra of an IC abundant semigroup (a primitively semisimple semigroup; a primitive abundant semigroup) over a field to be semisimple.

Full text
Abstract:
Vitamin-K is a demanding multi-functional health product in the market and belongs to a class of isoprenoid molecules that comprises methylnaphthoquinone (MK) unit attached to an isoprene side chain. They are fat soluble and differ in the extent of side chain & obtained in the nature as vitamin K1 (phylloquinone), menaquinone/vitamin K2, and other lipoquinones. Owing to their owned polyprenyl side chain, they are hydrophobic/lipophilic in nature. Generally, the synthesis of vitamin K and its variants suffers with isomerization (for example 11 isomers were identified for cis/trans MK-7). Naturally, in bio-systems vitamin K produces through shikimic acid pathway and terpene biosynthetic pathway for the synthesis of menaquinone part & prenyl side chain parts respectively. Menadione or its auxiliaries are commonly being used as substrates to the synthesis of vitamin K variants through the involvement of condensation reactions, Friedel-Craft alkylation’s, Claisen rearrangement, Diels-Alder reactions and others. Importantly, organometallic reagents, such as Grignard, Gilman, organotelluride and other reagents could be the promising and consistent choice of substrate to the synthesis of various vitamin K’s. Vitamin K is well known for blood coagulation. As an antihaemorrhagic vitamin, it’s also being the current interest for the treatment of bone and vascular diseases. In addition, vitamin k is indispensable for the activation of vitamin K dependent (VKD) proteins and that are present almost in all tissues and responsible for hemostasis, bone mineralization, arterial calcification, apoptosis, phagocytosis, growth control, chemotaxis, and signal transduction. This chapter summarizes various synthetic approaches of vitamin K & derivatives and their biological functions.

Abstract:
K. Kanagasabapathy, Rekha A. Bhangaonkar, and Shruti Pandey address the issue whether the rate and quantum channels were complementary to each other over the period April 2001 to December 2017. Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) monetary policy framework is characterized by use of multiple instruments combining adjustments in policy rate with a complex use of liquidity management operations, despite changes in the functioning of the monetary policy. They study easing and tightening phases of the policy cycle and bring out stylized facts on several relationships highlighting the impact of policy rate changes and liquidity conditions on short and medium term market interest rates and output and prices. An empirical analysis confirmed the linkage between the repo rate and the market related rates. On the quantum side, a bi-causal relationship is observed between repo and liquidity. Money and financial transmission market transmission is better established than that to the real sector. Shruti Pandey and K. Kanagasabapathy have worked on the revised version for the new edition.

Full text
Abstract:
In this paper, the linear stability analysis (LSA) is utilized to investigate the stability of time-averaged cylinder wake past a circular cylinder at Re = 200 and its receptivity to inlet flow pulsation. An in-house finite volume method is used to solve the full N-S equations as well as the linearised set for small perturbations around the time-averaged flow. The solution of the latter set provides information about the stability of the wake. It is found that the most unstable eigenmode has a small negative real part and an imaginary part that closely marches the Strouhal number of vortex shedding. This finding agrees with the results of other investigators. Inlet flow pulsation appears as a forcing term in the linearised equation set. Both cross-stream and streamwise velocity components in the separating shear layers are strongly affected by pulsation. The effect of pulsation is spatially localised in the near wake. Increasing the pulsation frequency reduces the spatial extent within which pulsation plays an important role.

Abstract:
This paper is a continuation of a recent ASME Conference paper entitled “Design of a Python-Based Plug-in for Benchmarking Probabilistic Fracture Mechanics Computer Codes with Failure Event Data” (PVP2009-77974). In that paper, which was co-authored by Fong, deWit, Marcal, Filliben, Heckert, and Gosselin, we designed a probability-uncertainty plug-in to automate the estimation of leakage probability with uncertainty bounds due to variability in a large number of factors. The estimation algorithm was based on a two-level full or fractional factorial design of experiments such that the total number of simulations will be small as compared to a Monte-Carlo method. This feature is attractive if the simulations were based on finite element analysis with a large number of nodes and elements. In this paper, we go one step further to derive a risk-uncertainty formula by computing separately the probability-uncertainty and the consequence-uncertainty of a given failure event, and then using the classical theory of error propagation to compute the risk-uncertainty within the domain of validity of that theory. The estimation of the consequence-uncertainty is accomplished by using a public-domain software package entitled “Cost-Effectiveness Tool for Capital Asset Protection, version 4.0, 2008” (http://www.bfrl.nist.gov/oae/ or NIST Report NISTIR-7524), and is more fully described in a companion paper entitled “An Economics-based Intelligence (EI) Tool for Pressure Vessels & Piping (PVP) Failure Consequence Estimation,” (PVP2010-25226, Session MF-23.4 of this conference). A numerical example of an application of the risk-uncertainty formula using a 16-year historical database of probability and consequence of main steam and hot reheat piping systems is presented. Implication of this risk-uncertainty estimation tool to the design of a risk-informed in-service inspection program is discussed.

Abstract:
The Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME) published the construction standard for superconducting magnet structures for nuclear fusion facilities in December, 2008. The main target of the standard is tokamak-type fusion energy facilities, especially ITER, or the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor. The standard consists of seven articles and twelve mandatory and non-mandatory appendices to the articles; i.e., (1) Scope, roles and responsibilities, (2) Materials, (3) Structural design, (4) Fabrication and installation, (5) Non-destructive examination, (6) Pressure and leak testing, and (7) Terms used in general requirement. Following the publication of the standard, the procurement of toroidal coil coils has started since March, 2009 and it is revealed that the revision of the standard is necessary in many respects: e.g., (1) English translation of the standard is necessary for international procurement activities, (2) more wires other than prescribed in the standard are needed, etc. The present paper describes current fusion standards activities in JSME and other related fusion activities in Japan.

Abstract:
PERFORM 60 (prediction of the effects of radiation for reactor pressure vessel and in-core materials using multi-scale modelling - 60 years foreseen plant lifetime) is a 48-month project of the 7th Framework of the European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM) being carried out under the auspices of the Directorate General Research, Technology and Development (DG.RTD) of the European Commission. Launched in March 2009, and building on the achievements of PERFECT, a EURATOM 6th Framework project, PERFORM 60 has as its main objective the development of multi-scale modelling tools integrated onto a common software platform, aimed at predicting for PWRs (i) the effects of irradiation on RPV materials (low alloy bainitic steels), and (ii) the combined effects of irradiation and corrosion on internals (austenitic stainless steels). Accordingly, PERFORM 60 is based on two main technical sub-projects (i) RPV and (ii) Internals. An Integration sub-project serves to facilitate software development. A Users’ Group supports the main technical sub-projects and allows representatives of constructors, utilities, regulators and research organizations from Europe and further afield to receive the information and training needed to make their own appraisal as to the validity of the developed tools. A significant effort is also being made to train young researchers in the field of physical modelling of materials degradation due to neutron irradiation. The paper describes the general background to PERFORM 60 and provides an overview of the RPV sub-project (SP-1) in terms of its organisation, objectives and technical work programme.

Abstract:
Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) has been used for many years to consolidate porosity in cast metal shapes to improve mechanical properties. When applied to fine metal powders, it is possible to produce Near Net Shape (NNS) items and more complex geometry components that are fully dense and offer an attractive set of properties at reduced cost. NNS items manufactured from powder deliver cost savings by reducing initial material usage and subsequent machining costs. Powder production and HIP processing are automated methods, which provide protection against forging route obsolescence. Setup costs are lower and batch sizes smaller, which makes the process particularly well suited to small numbers of high integrity components. HIPped powder microstructures are isotropic and equiaxed, with uniformly fine grain sizes not normally achieved in heavy section components, which facilitates ultrasonic NDE examination. Improved features to facilitate NDE are readily incorporated into the HIP assembly. Inclusion contents are lower and of more benign geometry, easing fracture assessment. Use of the technology has grown, particularly in the offshore oil industry where it is already established in high integrity applications, particularly in place of welded joints. Take-up in the more conservative nuclear industry has been slow. The quality of HIPped powder items can provide through life cost savings since there is greater assurance of structural integrity compared to welded or wrought components. In a broad programme of testing, Rolls-Royce has established that HIPped powder 316L/304L components, in items up to several tons in weight, have equivalent or slightly better strength, toughness and corrosion resistance than conventional forgings. Rolls-Royce now has a robust methodology in place to develop safety cases and is extending the number of applications in pressure boundary components on current and future classes of equipment. A strength-in-depth argument has been endorsed by external approval organisations and is supporting current submarine build programmes. Other applications in the growing civil nuclear market are now under consideration. A plan for developing an ASME Code Case for Powder HIP is being considered. This paper presents an update on the implementation process.

Sawa, Toshiyuki, Mitsutoshi Ishimura, and Atsushi Karami. "A Bolt-Nut Loosening Mechanism in Bolted Connections Under Repeated Transverse Loadings (Effect of Inclined Bearing Surfaces on the Loosening)." In ASME 2010 Pressure Vessels and Piping Division/K-PVP Conference. ASMEDC, 2010. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/pvp2010-25324.

Abstract:
Loosening accidents sometimes occur under several types of loadings such as winds, vibrations, earthquakes, impact loads and thermal changes. Recently, some studies have been conducted on the screw thread loosening in bolted joints under repeated transverse loadings. It is well known that bolted joints are easily loosened when repeated transverse loadings are applied. While, in assembling bolted joints, the contact surfaces between a bolt head/nut and a clamped part are inclined geometrically. However, a lot of researches have dealt with the bolted joints in which the bearing surfaces are perfectly contacted without the inclined surfaces. Thus, it is necessary to examine the incline of the bearing surfaces on the loosening in bolted joint. A lot of parts for preventing the loosening have been proposed and sold at market. Among these parts, the authors have demonstrated that eccentric nuts are especially expected to be the solution for preventing the loosening of the joints under repeated transverse loadings. However, a few studies have been carried out on the loosening and loosening mechanism in bolted joints with inclined bearing surface and the effective solution for preventing loosening of bolted joint with the inclined bearing surfaces under the repeated transverse loadings. Thus, it is necessary to examine the effect of the incline at the bearing surfaces on the loosening and to evaluate the solutions for preventing loosening of the bolted joints with the inclined bearing surfaces. In this study, the effect of the incline at the bearing surfaces on the loosening is examined using FEM calculations. In the FEM calculations, the incline angle at the bearing surfaces is changed as 0, 2 and 3 degree, respectively. The experiments to measure the loosening in bolted joints were carried out using Junker’s testing machine to validities of the FEM calculations for revealing the effect of the loosening in the joints with the inclined bearing surfaces. In addition, nut parts for preventing the loosening in bolted connections with the inclined bearing surface under repeated transverse loadings are examined using the FEM calculations. As the result, it is seen that the loosening increases as the angle of incline increases. In addition, it is observed that bolted joints in which almost nut parts for preventing loosening are applied are loosened easily while the eccentric nut does not loosened. Discussion is made on the loosening mechanism in bolted joints under repeated transverse loadings.
