Abstract:
The main aim of this study is to investigate the ability of four local entomopathogenic isolates Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) and Metarhizium anisopliae (Met.) to control the mosquito larvae in the lab. The results revealed that the isolate (MARD48) B .bassiana reduced the survival rate of the mosquito larvae to (80%) followed by the isolate M. anisopliae (MARD10) to (90%) in the first two days of treatment, and 60 and 66% respectively in the third day. The results also showed that the isolate B. bassiana (MARD48) killed 50% of the population (LC50) with the concentration 1×104 conidia/ml compared to 1×107 conidia/ml for the isolates B. bassiana (MARD14) and M. anisopliae (MARD10), and 1×108 conidia/ml for the isolate B .bassiana (MARD76). The shortest lethal time was at concentration 1×107 conidia/ml within 3.3 day for the isolate B. bassiana (MARD48); while, it was 2.3 day for the isolate M. anisopliae (MARD10) of the concentration of 6 1×1011 spores / ml . According to the results, the isolate B. bassiana (MARD48) revealed the lowest concentration killed 50% (LC50) of the population and shortest time.

Abstract:
In this PhD thesis, we suggest a method which globally models every kind of movement with linear combinations of orthogonal polynomials. In order to do that, we project each vector field, which represents the studied motion, onto an orthogonal basis of Legendre's polynomials. So, we achieve a polynomial expression of this movement. A low-order modelling permits to give a physical interpretation to the dominant motion of the image sequence. This feature is interesting for applications like visual surveillance, indexing or behaviour study. We prove that our method can also model complex motions like fluid flows. The polynomial representation, the low-time computing and the high compression rate have a significant pratical importance to analyse this kind of data

Abstract:
The modification of carbon substrates by chemical functions significantly affects the surface properties of the material. These changes can be carried out by different methods: oxidation of the support, or grafting of molecules by reduction of a synthon. This last method seems more attractive because it helps to maintain the integrity of the support. The realization of grafted layers on carbon surface is carried out by reduction of diazonium or iodonium ions. This reduction results in the formation of radicals, which react with carbon surface to form a covalent bond. This method allows grafting a large variety of molecules; by selecting appropriate terminal groups it is possible to change different characteristics of the active layer of PEMFC electrodes, such as the hydrophobic / hydrophilic properties, platinum / support interactions and ionic conductivity. In this context, thiophenol grafted layers were realized to strengthen the anchorage of platinum nanoparticles on carbon support, limiting the migration of nanoparticles in course of sintering process. Carbon functionalized with benzenesulfonic acid groups and trifluoromethylbenzene groups were used to adjust the wettability of active layers, in order to improve water management in fuel cells. Grafted layers of alkynyl groups with ionic end functions could also be performed to confer ionic conductivity (protons or hydroxyls) to the catalyst support, in order to improve the use of catalyst in fuel cell electrodes

The billfish are oceanic pelagic species often caught by the tuna fleet and with great interest of sport fishing. This group of fish has specific legislation prohibiting the marketing and export of two species, Kajuikia albida e Makaira nigricans, in Brazil. DNA barcode is a universal system of molecular identification based on a sequence of mitochondrial DNA cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) of about 650 base pairs, serving as an identifying genomic mark in each species. This system has been used successfully to identify mischaracterized samples illegally marketed, like sample materials from sharks and other endangered species of organisms. The Barcode DNA technique was used to identify billfish marketed in the second largest fishing warehouse in Latin America, the CEAGESP-SP and the international airport of São Paulo, Brazil. 302 samples of billfish were collected during three inspection actions carried out by IBAMA, the executing agency of the national environmental policy. After DNA sequencing procedures it was possible to identify 72 samples (91.14%) by CEAGESP at the level of species, being 21 (29.17%) identified as Xiphias gladius, 44 (61.1%) as Istiophorus platypterus and 7 (8.33%) as Kajikia albida, this latter species determined as a market prohibited in Brazil and considered vulnerable in the list of endangered species of the IUCN and in the official list of species of endangered Fauna - Fish and Aquatic Invertebrates. At the International Airport of Guarulhos it was possible to identify 223 samples (100%), all identified as Xiphias gladius as declared by the exporter and indicated by its NCM (Mercosur Common Nomenclature). Molecular analysis has proven to be an excellent tool to identify billfish in Brazil in different centers such as Guarulhos International Airport and CEAGESP, SP. The identification of the white marlin being illegally traded in CEAGESP demonstrates the ineffectiveness of the current monitoring techniques used and emphasize the need for adopting better public policies for the conservation of the species.

This paper will detail the making of The Marked, exploring from concept to completion, with special focus on creating a dystopian, science fiction, film with an element of fantasy. I will begin by examining my inspirations. Next, I will explore preproduction, examining screenwriting, casting, location scouting, production, and preparation. Part three will look at production, focusing on directing, production design, cinematography, and on-set operations. Part four will examine post production, including, editing, color correction, sound design, and music. Each element of production will be evaluated to determine if they helped successfully create a believable, dystopian, fantasy story for the viewer. I will also be examining whether the themes I originally sought to explore come across in the film.

Haberland, Nicole, Erica Chong, and Hillary J. Bracken. Married adolescents: An overview. Population Council, 2004. http://dx.doi.org/10.31899/pgy22.1005.

Abstract:
The nascent work reviewed in this compendium indicates that married girls experience significant social isolation and limited autonomy. Across the studies examined, on indicators of mobility, exposure to media, and social networks, married girls are consistently disadvantaged compared to their unmarried peers. Similarly, across studies, on most of the domains explored here (mobility, decision-making, control over economic resources, and possibly gender-based violence), married girls tend to be less empowered and more isolated than slightly older married females. There may also be health issues associated with marriage during adolescence. Married girls are frequently at a disadvantage in terms of reproductive health information—particularly regarding STIs and HIV. First-time mothers, many of whom are adolescents, by virtue of their parity may have distinct maternal health needs and risks. Finally, early marriage potentially plays a role in exposing girls and young women to severe reproductive health risks, including HIV. Many of these elevated health risks may be largely, though not exclusively, derivative of their social vulnerability.

Bruce, Judith, and Shelley Clark. Including married adolescents in adolescent reproductive health and HIV/AIDS policy. Population Council, 2004. http://dx.doi.org/10.31899/pgy22.1002.

Full text
Abstract:
The majority of sexually active girls aged 15–19 in developing countries are married, and married adolescent girls tend to have higher rates of HIV infection than their sexually active, unmarried peers. Married adolescent girls represent a sizable fraction of adolescents at risk and experience some of the highest rates of HIV prevalence of any group. Nonetheless, married adolescents have been marginal in adolescent HIV/AIDS policies and programs and have not been the central subjects for programs aimed at adult married women. This paper offers a partial explanation for why married adolescents have so often been overlooked, the reasons why marriage might bring elevated risk of HIV, initial analytic tools to assist policymakers in determining how to accord appropriate levels of priority to the marriage process, five brief case studies, and a menu of potential policy interventions and actions to make married adolescents an integral part of reproductive health and HIV-prevention initiatives.
