The objective of the study was to extract lutein, an active component of marigold flower (Tagetes erecta) by means of supercritical carbon dioxide (sc-C02). Extractions on freeze-dried marigold petals were performed with a laboratory scale supercritical fluid extractor (LECO TFEIM2000) of highly advanced design and performance. Iron/manganese toxicity disorder in marigold (Tagetes erecta L.) has been related to high concentrations of Mn and low concentrations of Ca and Mg in the affected leaves. Preplant addition of micronutrients in the media combined with constant feed program and low medium pH create favorable conditions for the development of Mn toxicity in greenhouse crops. Ultraviolet colouration of flowers varies both among and within species. The significance of these patterns and differences among them was usually associated with a visual per- ception of pollinators.
