Abstract:
A human is a social being, who wants to achieve relations with other people. The most common form of close emotional relationships in adulthood is marriage. A married relationship can be implied in various ways and, although marriage lasts as a constant form of emotional attachment, contemporary marriage is in crisis. Actual social circumstances place various challenges before married life. In this work we have focused on some aspects which we recognized as potential factors of marriage destabilization. These include various empirical researches both in Serbia and abroad: the role of age in marriage, cohabitation, importance of primary family, children, economic stress, mechanisms of coping with stress, affective attachments between partners, solving conflicts, communication competence, distribution of house chores. Those are the factors that experts face in counseling and therapy works, solving marriage crisis. We see the quality of a married relationship as a multidimensional phenomena consisting of marriage satisfaction, marriage stability, marriage cohesion, marriage compliance. In this paper, we tried to show the complexity of marriage relationships in a nutshell and present the current research directions in this area of psychology.

Abstract:
Various studies have shown that the origin of many marital conflicts is in inadequacy of sexual relations. The main objective of this study is to determine the relationship between sexual esteem and sexual conscious with sexual satisfaction. 200 married students fulfilled theMultidimensional Sexuality Questionnaire (MSQ) and sexual satisfaction of Larson. The average correlation coefficients between sexual esteem and sexual conscious with sexual satisfaction were obtained (respectively to 0.47 and 0.48). The results of multivariate regression showed that the components of sexual esteem and sexual conscious have determined about 29.6% of variance in sexual satisfaction. It seems that evaluation of sexual issues is required for marital treatments and the variables should be considered seriously in therapeutic interventions.

Abstract:
<p>Commitment to both spouse and the institution of marriage appears to be important to the success of a marriage. The aim of the present study is to examine the role of relational maintenance behavior and attachment styles in predicting marital commitment. The statistical population has been consisted of all the couples who had middle school children in Tehran city; so, 372 married people (233 women and 139 men) have been selected by multiple cluster sampling. The Relational maintenance behavior measure (RMSM), Adult attachment questionnaire (AAQ) and personal commitment subscale have been considered as the data collection tools. The results have shown that there is a significant positive relationship between assurance subscale, openness, conflict management, share task, positivity, advice and secure attachment style and marital commitment, and there is a significant negative relationship between avoidant and ambivalent attachment styles and marital commitment. Also multiple regression analysis has shown that the four subscales of relational maintenance behavior (assurance, openness, conflict management and positivity) and attachment styles (secure, avoidant and ambivalent) can predict the marital commitment (p &lt;0.05). According to these findings, it can be concluded that relational maintenance behaviors and attachment styles affect the marital commitment and commitment to marital relationship among couples can be increased by training relationship maintenance behaviors and providing necessary trainings related to attachment styles for parents.</p>

Abstract:
The study focused on elements discussed during pre-marital counselling and how those elements mediate on the sustainability of marriages in Greater Accra Region. Concurrent triangulation mixed method design was chosen for the study. For the quantitative phase 100 marriage people were randomly selected from 10 churches. At the qualitative phase 4 head pastors were conveniently selected from the 10 churches. Mean and standard deviation was used to analysed the questionnaire for the quantitative phase while the semi-structured interview scheduled was thematically analysed to explain issues as they emerged in the study. The study showed conflict resolution, communication, adjusting to individual difference, sex and romance, family lifecycles in marriage and separation from past-memories and families were some elements discussed during pre-marital counselling to help sustain the marriages. Again, respondents were of the view that pre-marital counselling is vital for the sustainability of marriages and should be made compulsory for new couples. Lastly, it was revealed the philosophy of pre-marital counselling is not only being aware of potential land mines in their relationship, but to equip married people to learn the skills necessary to successfully deal with challenges throughout their marriage which help in the sustainability. Therefore, it was recommended that the churches should employ professional counsellors who understand the principle of marriage counselling to perform the act of counselling and follow-up service should be done to check if the elements discussed during pre-marital counselling are being put into practice.

Abstract:
Humanity’s history, with its biological, psychological, social, cultural, economic and political dimensions, belongs to the coexistence of man and woman, to the relationships between them and their children. In time, family has become one of the oldest community forms, which ensures the evolution and continuity of the human species. Family influences the most the human being. Many studies made by researchers in this field, have proved the importance of the family for people, emphasizing that family is a real laboratory for the development of a person. In contemporary society, family suffered a lot of important transformations, like female empowerment for example, which, in turn, has determined many other changes in the family life. Due to these changes, the marital couple is currently more interested in satisfying its own interests and minimizes the tasks that society assigns to the family. A sample of 30 married couples, residing in Constanta County, has been assessed with Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale, Locke-Wallace Marital Adjustment Scale, Kansas Marital Conflict Scale and Influence of the Material Situation on the Couple Questionnaire. The main objective of the research was to identify the relationship between these factors and the duration of the marital couple. We identified significant correlation between: (1) the couple’s duration and marital satisfaction; (2) the marital satisfaction and marital adjustment; (3) the level of the financial status and marital quarrels. Results are discussed in terms of marital counseling, the increase of marital satisfaction and the development of assistance for families in need.

Abstract:
Over the past seven years, an armed conflict has taken place in the eastern part of Ukraine, leading to significant human losses and involving an increased emotional and physical strain on participants (both military and civilian), post-traumatic stress, which has a devastating effect on the mental and somatic sphere of the individual, changes its spiritual values. Measurement of the autonomic nervous system (excitability, irritability, apathy, lethargy; reduced efficiency; insomnia; hyperesthesia, a feeling of "a lump in the throat") was performed in servicemen who were treated at the Poltava Regional Clinical Hospital for War Veterans during 2019-2020. Predictors were social factors (employment and marital status) and the gender of patients. The influence of predictors on the development of disorders of the autonomic nervous system was determined by the method of the odds ratio. As a result of statistical calculations, risk factors for clinical manifestations of disorders of the autonomic nervous system were identified, that unemployment, on the one hand, increases the risk of apathy and reduces efficiency, but on the other - the unemployed have better sleep; in married people, such manifestation as a feeling of "a lump in a throat" is more often observed. Analyzing the influence of sex, it was found that men are more likely to feel aroused, and women are less likely to feel "a lump in the throat".

Abstract:
This paper contains a discussion of predisposition or contradiction in laws and regulations governing the crime of adultery with the implementation of abortion. Adultery and abortion are criminal acts that are victimless in nature or crimes with mutual agreement and without victims. In positive Indonesian law, adultery is only considered a criminal act when one or both of the perpetrators are married people or in our society it is known as an affair or gathering. kebo. This is very contrary to Islamic law and laws that live in society or customary law as stated in the Pancasila. As a result, a pregnancy outside of wedlock or an unwanted pregnancy may result from this adulterous relationship. When a pregnancy outside of marriage occurs, the psychological condition of both parties is disturbed and eventually not a few decide to take the path of abortion, especially teenagers, even though at the risk of losing their life. Even though by law abortion is allowed, but even then it must be subject to rules, conditions and supervision. strictly carried out by competent parties as designated by law. The formulation of the article on adultery in Indonesian legislation is still unclear, especially for the act of adultery committed by two men and women who are neither married to any party. However, sexual behavior is risky or between other pre-marital sexual behavior according to Article 11 of Government Regulation no. 61 of 2014 concerning Reproductive Health to prevent and protect adolescents from these acts because it is clear that they have a bad impact both physically and psychologically. This is where there is a conflict between Indonesia's positive law, namely between Article 284 of the Criminal Code and Article 11 of Government Regulation no. 61 of 2014 concerning Reproductive Health. Meanwhile, the adultery article as mentioned above has been clearly stated in Article 240 of the Draft Criminal Code, but so it has not been ratified for certain reasons. Among the efforts to prevent the crime of adultery and abortion is the enforcement of the substance, structure and culture of law in Indonesia.

Abstract:
Abstract Background Esophageal cancer is the sixth most common cause of cancer deaths globally, and causes the deaths of over 400,000 people worldwide annually. For the patients with M1 diseases, the population has been growing over the past 20 years. Chemotherapy is the standard treatment for them, however, the survival is not satisfactory, with 5-year relative survival less than 5%. Very limited patients were able to survive more than two years. Our study aimed to evaluate the clinicopathologic characteristics of the long-time survivals and construct a clinical nomogram using the Surveilance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Methods Information of patients diagnosed with M1 stage esophageal cancer from 2010–2014 was retrieved from SEER database. Patients with unknown TNM stage or unknown metastatic sites were not included. Demographic and clinicopathologic characteristics were compared between LTS (long time survivals: patients who have survived for no less than 2 years) and STS (shorter time survivals: patients who have survived for less than 2 years). Cox regression analysis was performed to evaluate prognostic factors. A nomogram comprising demographic and clinicopathologic factors was established to predict 1-year survival and 2-year survival for patients with M1 diseases. Results A total of 3133 patients from the SEER database were included for analysis. The demographic and clinicopathologic variables of the LTS and the STS groups were summarized and compared. Compared with the STS, married people and patients with Grade I-II differentiated diseases were significantly more likely to be LTS. Also, LTS were associated with less bone metastasis and more surgery. Seven point three percent married patients have survived more than two years, however, only 4.5% single or divoiced or widow patients were LTS. Among the 3313 patients, 123 patients recieved surgery, and as high as 28.5% patients were LTS. The OS nomogram (Figure 1) was based on the eleven variables: gender, age, marital status, T stage, histology, grade, bone metastasis, brain metastasis, liver metastasis, lung metastasis, and surgery. Figure 1 Nomogram predicting 1-year and 2-year OS for M1 stage esophageal cancer Conclusion We developed a nomogram predicting 1- and 2-year overall survival for M1 stage esophageal cancer. The prognostic model may improve clinicians’ abilities to predict individualized survival and to make treatment recommendations Disclosure All authors have declared no conflicts of interest.

Abstract:
This study examined five seminal television series — I Love Lucy, The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Jeffersons, The Cosby Show, and Home Improvement — for episodes of conflict. Those episodes of conflict were then analyzed through thematic analysis. Using Baxter's (1988) relational dialectical tensions as a theoretical framework, the internal tensions present in romantic relationships (i.e., autonomy v. connection, novelty v. predictability, and openness v. closedness) served as themes to organize the data. After identifying the dialectical tensions present in each of the series, the shows were then compared to determine if a shift had occurred in each of the dialectics over time.

Rautenbach, John Victor. "Developing the marital life course perspective as a conceptual framework for describing and understanding marital life events and marital transitions." Thesis, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10948/2991.

Full text
Abstract:
This research seeks to explore the development of the Marital Life Course Perspective as a conceptual framework for describing and understanding marital life events and marital transitions. The study’s orientation is guided by the Life Course Perspective (Glen Elder Jr.) as a theoretical framework and draws on Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (Jonathan Smith) and Concept Analysis (Walker & Avant) as methodological approaches. One hundred and thirty (130) academic works that use the term marital life course in their texts constituted a literature-dataset for a Concept Analysis (Walker & Avant, 1988; 2011) that tracked the theoretical development of the Marital Life Course Perspective since 1980 (George, 1980, p. 80). The residents of retirement centres and old age homes in East London and Buffalo City (all older than 65 years of age) were invited to share a retrospective history of their relationship experiences, about their multiple marital life events and the marital transitions that shaped their marital life course. The 16 women who participated in the in-depth interviews had all been previously married more than once and were currently single due to divorce or the death of their husbands. This empirical data was analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) as a guide (Smith, Flowers, & Larkin, 2009). After the analysis and synthesis of both datasets the following proposed operational definition of the Marital Life Course Perspective was constructed: The Marital Life Course Perspective is a conceptual framework for describing and understanding marital life events and marital transitions. As a subset of the Life Course Perspective, the Marital Life Course Perspective seeks to understand all stages of the marital experience within their wider social and cultural contexts, which are shaped by the historical dimension of a cohort’s specific time and geographic location. Marital life events include, but are not limited to, marital status changes. An individual may experience multiple marriage life events throughout their life, each with associated role transitions that vary according to their temporality and the individuals whose lives are linked to the marital experience. Well-being and transition outcomes across the marital life course may be promoted or impeded by an interplay of risk and protective factors, and agency-related capacity or resilience.

Abstract:
Research indicates that determinants such as commitment, communication and attachment facilitate long-term marriages. The present study seeks to understand these and other possible determinants that facilitate enduring relationships. Furthermore, the research focuses exclusively on the determinants that males believe facilitate long-term relationships. Bader and Pearson's transposition of Mahler's Model of Separation Individuation onto adult relationships was used as a theoretical point of departure. Bader and Pearson posit that couples evolve through stages which resemble Mahler's Model of Childhood Development. A qualitative approach using semistructured interviews aided in creating a non-threatening environment whilst collecting data. Purposive non-random sampling was used to identify participants and thereafter participants were obtained via snowball sampling. Tesch's thematic analysis was used to analyse results. The research findings highlight the understanding of what determinants males deem essential to facilitate long-term relationships.

Abstract:
Available data indicate that marital rape impacts the health and safety of women in much the same way as rape by a stranger. This chapter argues in favour of recognizing marital rape as a crime in India, by rebutting the forcefully held misconceptions that continue to be put forth as justifications for exempting marital rape as a criminal offence. The institution of marriage as a sanction for sex completely disregards the consent of the wife. This has the effect of condoning acts in the nature of domestic violence and must be recognized as a form of gender discrimination that negates the dignity, personal autonomy, and bodily integrity of married women. Analysis of existing legal provisions on spousal sexual violence under the PWDVA have been analysed to assess the scope of legal remedies available for marital rape.

Abstract:
This chapter considers the main arguments raised by conservatives against same-sex marriage and gay rights more generally. Defenders of same-sex marriage acknowledge the fact that marriage is in many ways a conservative institution. Libertarians, liberationists, and some liberals doubt that marriage is fair given the diversity of people's conceptions of meaning and value in life. Many adopt an unnecessarily critical posture toward civil marriage. This chapter offers a sympathetic account of marriage that recognizes the importance for many people of marital commitment while also honoring, and indeed helping to secure, the equal liberty and fairness prized by liberals. It shows that the debate over gay rights has been shaped by the repeated articulation of a demand for public reasons and evidence to justify the shape of the law touching on gay rights and marriage. The demand for reasons was laid down by the dissenters in Bowers v. Hardwick (1987).

Abstract:
This chapter examines the nature of pre-marital agreements (PMAs), advantages and disadvantages of PMAs, and the enforceability of them in proceedings for financial orders, and the potential developments in the enforceability of PMAs. It states that a PMA can sometimes be called an ante-nuptial agreement or pre-nuptial agreement and that it is essentially a contact made between two people before they get married. Various case-laws dealing with the issue of PMAs are presented. The negotiation and drafting of a PMA are outlined following case-law which provided guidance on this, but confirming that even if these steps are taken, it does not guarantee that a PMA will be followed by the courts.

Abstract:
The marriage institution with its complexity is not exempted from conflict. In the world where emphasis is on conflict resolution, the Efik people speak of marital conflict prevention more than conflict resolution and management. Marital conflict if not prevented or resolved can become inimical to both present and future generation apart from its fire engulfing the entire community. Though female circumcision (which is associated with Nkuho) has been abolished, it is the opinion of this chapter that the educational spirit behind this institution is still a veritable too in preventing marital conflict. The chapter made use of ethno-methodological approach with content analysis to aver that in preventing marital conflict among Efik people, Nkuho institution can be a veritable tool of conflict prevention and peace building. This work has shown that Nkuho institution has something positive to offer to the modern world, especially as it concerns marital conflict prevention.

Significantly, and contrary to the usual interpretation of banditry in the scholarly literature, the evidence from Guangdong demonstrates that banditry was not merely an occupation of younger men but also of older, more mature adults, many of whom were married with families. Most convicted bandits and brotherhood members came from China’s laboring poor, those individuals who were highly mobile, lived on the fringe of respectable society, and earned only a subsistence living. The fact that such a large number of bandits and brotherhood members were mature working family men suggests that they turned to crime in times of desperation or as a necessary supplement to honest work. Unemployment and chronic underemployment, the author maintains, forced many among the working poor to commit crime; stealing became an important, though normally only occasional, part of their livelihoods and life cycles.

Abstract:
This chapter discusses the law on discrimination due to the protected characteristics of gender reassignment, marital status and civil partnership, and pregnancy and maternity. The Sex Discrimination Act as originally drafted only prohibited discrimination on grounds of sex and marital status. However, civil partners are now treated in the same way as married people. Transgender people, who live as someone of the opposite gender, are protected from discrimination. They can also change their birth certificates so that their new gender is reflected there. Pregnant women have a right not to be discriminated against, and this is a free-standing right. People are entitled not to be discriminated against because of their sexual orientation. The prohibition against sex discrimination covers heterosexuals as well as homosexual people.

Abstract:
This chapter focuses on the diversity of people living life-changing doubt and their still-religious spouses. It highlights the distinctive experiences and implications for men and women in double life marriages. It talks about double lifers that elaborated and navigated a changing morality influenced by liberal values, often in conflict with the ultra-Orthodox morality of their still-religious spouse and children. The chapter looks into the tension between revelation and secret keeping for people living double lives that meant choosing between self-fulfilment and comfortable familiarity, as well as between individual truth and protection of their family. It also reviews how double lifers secretly began violating the religious laws and obligations under the very noses of their still-religious spouses all the while appearing as ultra-Orthodox men and women to friends, family, and their communities.

Abstract:
This chapter explores marriage in the social and legal context. It looks at who marries, and what marriage seems to mean to them. Marriage is a crucial social institution, and many people bemoan the state of American marriage: opponents of same-sex marriage, supporters of the patriarchal family, anti-divorce moralists, advocates for children, and so on. Marriage may be weaker than before, it may have changed greatly; but it is still fundamental to society and to the lives of people in America. And its consequences reverberate throughout society and the law. Thus the chapter discusses what marriage means in law: the rights and obligations of married couples, including economic rights. It also looks at the darker side of marriage—domestic violence and marital rape.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the legal issues faced by transgender people in divorce and child custody cases. Despite trans people’s increased visibility, and gains in legal rights and protections, many people—including judges—continue to harbor misconceptions about transgender people. Attorneys representing transgender clients must anticipate the possibility of judicial bias and take proactive steps to address it. Attorneys must be prepared for the unique legal issues that arise when a spouse transitions during an existing marriage. Even under modern “no-fault” divorce regimes, attorneys must be prepared to rebut the claim that coming out as transgender constitutes misconduct or justifies awarding the other spouse more marital property or spousal support. In custody cases, attorneys must anticipate and rebut misinformation and negative judicial attitudes toward transgender parents. Finally, even after Obergefell v. Hodges (2015), attorneys representing transgender clients who married before Obergefell must be prepared to explain why that decision is retroactive.

Abstract:
This paper reports on a social survey that was conducted in 2001 in Central Queensland, Australia, in order to identify the disadvantaged groups in relation to accessing the Internet from home. The research found that people in younger age groups, with higher education levels, being married , having children at home, owning a house/flat, with the higher income level, or being employed, had higher levels of Internet access from home respectively, compared to their counterparts. Regression analysis found that variation of any factors of education levels, marital status, children at home, income level and employment status may affect the decision to access the Internet from home. It also found that unemployment and low education levels were two major factors detrimentally affecting home Internet access and that seniors (>55 years of age) were disadvantaged because of lack of awareness and capability to use the Internet.
