Full textThis volume is the edition and the commentary of about 300 documents discovered amongst the archives of mart kings (Syria, XVIIIe s. B. C. ). Written in Akkadian, an old-babylonian dialect, they give the opportunity of scrutinizing, besides kings wealth, many unsuspected aspects of diplomatic exchanges between major contemporaneous royal courts. They give access to an archaeological documentation which was lost due to the heavy looting of great middle-eastern centers in antiquity. Last of all, knowledge of masterpieces circulation allows a better understanding of artistic trends genesis in middle- east, at the begining of the iind millennium b. C. This research is not only a historical one. It includes extensive lexical studies, aiming to establish luxury vessels glossary : denominations of artefacts, constitutive parts of the objects, descriptions of ornaments, etc. It pretends to constitute a significant contribution to the dictionnaire de babylonien de Paris elaborated after publishing of mari documentation by the Parisian scholarly team who devotes his efforts to them

Full textMoon and Mars have been the important targets for deep space missions. The studies in this thesis include two parts. The first part is concerning Chang’e-1 Interference Imaging Spectrometer (IIM) data preprocessing and global lunar FeO inversion. In order to better preprocess the IIM data, a new method using spectral angle and Euclidean distance for removing bad pixels has been proposed. A new in-flight calibration has been conducted. And cross calibration of IIM data by using the telescopic data is improved. The processed IIM data have also been used to inverse lunar FeO abundance. The IIM-derived FeO is comparable to Clementine FeO results, and can be an alternative dataset for Moon studies. The second part is concerning parameterizing rocket dust storms and daytime slope winds in LMD (Laboratoire de Météorologie Dynamique) Mars GCM (Global Climate Model) to reproduce the detached dust layers (DDLs) observed by Mars Climate Sounder (MCS) on Mars. The simulations by the GCM including rocket dust storm parameterization show that, during the Martian dusty seasons, the rocket dust storms are the key factors to explain the observed DDLs. The formation and evolution of GCM simulated DDLs are in agreement with those of MCS observation. Meanwhile, the simulation also suggests that the large variation of the DDLs’ altitudes in dusty season are contributed by the deep convection induced by rocket dust storms. The simulations by the GCM including daytime slope winds parameterization show that with the help of daytime slope winds, the GCM can reproduce the detached dust layers in Martian clear seasons, which cannot be simulated by the rocket dust storm process

Full textMeasuring the neutron and gamma ray fluxes produced by the interaction of galactic cosmic rays with planetary surfaces allow constraining the chemical composition of the upper tens of centimeters of material. Two different angles are proposed to study neutron and gamma spectroscopy: data processing and data interpretation. The present work is in line with two experiments, the Mars Odyssey Neutron Spectrometer and the Selene Gamma Ray Spectrometer. A review of the processing operations applied to the MONS dataset is proposed. The resulting dataset is used to determine the depth of the hydrogen deposits below the Martian surface. In water depleted regions, neutron data allow constraining the concentration in elements likely to interact with neutrons. The confrontation of these results to those issued from the Gamma Ray Spectrometer onboard Mars Odyssey provides interesting insight on the geologic context of the Central Elysium Planitia region. These martian questions are followed by the study of the Selene gamma ray data. Although only preliminary processing has been done to date, qualitative lunar maps of major elements (Fe, Ca, Si, Ti, Mg, K, Th, U) have already been realized

Full textThis thesis describes the geological histories of six planetary bodies with low internal activity: three terrestrial planets (Moon Mercury, and the south hemisphere of Mars) and three icy satellites (Ganymede, Callisto, and Rhea). The data were collected from the pictures of american spacecrafts and were furthermore used to propose qualitative or quantitative models explaining the data. Thus, it was possible to propose a scenario concerning the histories of these six planetary bodies, and to appreciate the real influence of each geological process which affects the planetary surface and interior. The tectonic induced by internal motions and convections occurred only on Mars. The widely present volcanism due to interior melting has existed on the Moon, Mars (silicated volcanism), Ganymede and Rhea (NH3/H20 volcanism). On the contrary, Mercury and Callisto only exhibit little volcanism due to local events (Calorie and Valhalla). The radius or shape variations due to thermal or orbital perturbations induced widespread planetary grids on these six bodies. The large impact craters considerably influenced the local and global tectonics, when they were deeper than the lithospheric thickness (Mars, Ganymede, Callisto), or when their size was important in regard of planetary radius (Mercury, Moon).

Full textIn 2009, the Evangeliar was published in Luxembourgish for the first time, containing the most-read Gospels of the Roman-Catholic liturgical tradition. In the introductory part, this thesis describes the historical, ecclesiastical, national, as well as linguistic background within which the faithful practised their religion from 1815 to the present day. Following on from there, it elucidates the influence of the Roman-Catholic church, as an institution, on contemporary biblical and liturgical translations, including the Evangeliar. This influence can originate from within the practice of Magisterium, scriptural tradition, or liturgical usage. In the second chapter, the translation of Mark 1, 1-45 is revised verse for verse in order to discuss the method as well as the criteria used in its development, with the aim of revealing traps of various kinds: linguistic, exegetical, theological, maybe even cultural, and furthermore to sound out the limitations of a translation into Luxembourgish of the Gospels. The conclusion, in which the various inquiry elements converge, also contains several elements conducive to further research on the translation of μετανοέω and of μετάνοια in general and in the Evangeliar in particular

Full textThis thesis studies the evolution of Marx's analysis of the internationalisation of capital in relation to pre-capitalistic social formations, drawing upon the new historical critical edition of Marx and Engels’ writings, with the aim of laying the foundation for establishing the relevance of their work to critical understanding of today’s processes of capitalist globalisation. The first two chapters follow the development of the analysis of the world market and globalisation from mercantilism to classical political economy and Hegel. The third chapter identifies the elements of discontinuity and continuity in Marx’s critique during the 1840s, while the fourth presents the content of Marx’s London Notebooks, showing that these represent a qualitative advance in his analysis of globalisation, in which he overcomes his previous vision of the passivity of non-European peoples. The fifth chapter presents the elaboration of these studies in the manuscripts and works in the second half of the 1850s and in the 1861-63 manuscripts, focussing in particular on his advance beyond the concept of capital in general and the six-book plan which corresponded to it. As a result, Capital Volume 1 integrated themes Marx originally intended for the projected volumes on state, foreign market and world market. The deepening of his understanding of the laws of capitalist uneven and combined development allowed him to articulate a vision of world revolution which overcame some of the “Eurocentric” elements still present in the 1840s

Full textThe understanding of the Solar System formation and its evolution is deeply connected to the knowledge on the planet interior structures. In situ studies with seismometers are therefore crucial to probe the internal structure (distribution and thickness of layers) and composition of the telluric planets. Indeed, SEIS (Seismic Experiment for Interior Structure) will land on Mars in 2018 (NASA InSight mission). Both types of sensors of the SEIS instrument, the VBB (Very Broad Band) and SP (Short Period), are mounted on the LVL (a mechanical levelling system) for which the purpose is twofold: ensure a level placement of the sensors on the Martian ground under yet unknown local conditions and provide the mechanical coupling of the seismometers to the ground. In this thesis, we developed a simplified analytical model of the LVL structure in order to reproduce its mechanical behaviour by predicting its resonances and transfer function. This model will allow to estimate the LVL effect on the VBB and SP data recorded on Mars. It is first implemented numerically and its validation is then guaranteed thanks to the observation of a lot of similarities between our results and those of the laboratory experiments with the LVL flight model. These comparisons prove the model fidelity with reality. After some simulations, we noticed a clear influence of the mechanical coupling between the LVL feet and the ground in the resonances found. For this reason, an inversion study has been realized in order to study if this model could allow to estimate the ground properties of the InSight site. Another work consists in modeling the 3 VBB sensors and the 3 SP sensors on the LVL and to observe the response of the global SEIS instrument in translation and rotation. Indeed, some rotation effects at short period can disturb the seismic measurements. This study can also allows to estimate the performances of SEIS, especially in rotation that can be one important information to recover the phase velocity of the surface seismic waves, highly dependent of the ground composition. This can be realized on Mars with an active seismic experiment thanks to the other main instrument of InSight mission: HP3. Today, new projects are also considered for a seismic return on the Moon. Indeed, the Apollo seismometers had a good resolution in ground displacement but were however unable to detect the Lunar ground seismic noise, named "meteoritic hum". This noise is possibly due to the continuous fall of micro-meteorites and its amplitude has been estimated to be about 1/100 of the resolution of the Apollo sensors at a certain frequency. Core seismic phases, although detected through stacking, have not also been individually recorded. A new generation of broadband seismometers, 100 to 1000 times more sensitive than the Apollo ones are therefore requested in order to reach the lunar seismic noise floor. This sensitivity will allow to take benefit of all the seismic waves generated by the Moon seismic activity. The core of such seismometer will be the proof mass displacement sensors, with extreme improvement in performances, linearity and noise level. During this thesis, we developed an optical readout prototype, based on the use of gravitational waves detectorsÕ technology which is the reference in term of interferometric measurements at low frequency and very low noise levels. This prototype is based on the "Pound-Drever-Hall" laser frequency stabilization technique. The objective is to improve the sensitivity by 2 orders of magnitude compared to the current seismometers performances
