Hodnett, Kathleen, and Heng-Hsing Hsieh. "Capital Market Theories: Market Efficiency Versus Investor Prospects." International Business & Economics Research Journal (IBER) 11, no. 8 (August 1, 2012): 849. http://dx.doi.org/10.19030/iber.v11i8.7163.

Abstract:
This paper reviews the development of capital market theories based on the assumption of capital market efficiency, which includes the efficient market hypothesis (EMH), modern portfolio theory (MPT), the capital asset pricing model (CAPM), the implications of MPT in asset allocation decisions, criticisms regarding the market portfolio and the development of the arbitrage pricing theory (APT). An alternative school of thought proposes that investors are irrational and that their trading behaviors are driven by psychological biases such as greed and fear. Prospect theory and the role of behavioral finance that describe investment decisions in imperfect capital markets are presented to contrast the Utopian assumption of perfect market efficiency. The paper concludes with the argument of Hirshleifer (2001) that heuristics are shared by investors and asset prices may not reflect their long-term intrinsic values as indicated by efficient capital market theories.

Todd, Alan. "Prospects for Accelerator Technology." Reviews of Accelerator Science and Technology 04, no. 01 (January 2011): 235–55. http://dx.doi.org/10.1142/s1793626811000604.

Full text
Abstract:
Accelerator technology today is a greater than US$5 billion per annum business. Development of higher-performance technology with improved reliability that delivers reduced system size and life cycle cost is expected to significantly increase the total accelerator technology market and open up new application sales. Potential future directions are identified and pitfalls in new market penetration are considered. Both of the present big market segments, medical radiation therapy units and semiconductor ion implanters, are approaching the "maturity" phase of their product cycles, where incremental development rather than paradigm shifts is the norm, but they should continue to dominate commercial sales for some time. It is anticipated that large discovery-science accelerators will continue to provide a specialty market beset by the unpredictable cycles resulting from the scale of the projects themselves, coupled with external political and economic drivers. Although fraught with differing market entry difficulties, the security and environmental markets, together with new, as yet unrealized, industrial material processing applications, are expected to provide the bulk of future commercial accelerator technology growth.

Abstract:
The development of the organic market in the world requires conducting a research on the problems that accompany this process. Such studies are becoming more popular and apply not only to organic products market at the global level, but also at the local level. In order to identify global problems, the state and trends of the organic products markets in the USA, Germany, France, Britain as the biggest national markets were analyzed on the basis of the data characterizing the state of organic products market in Ukraine and in the world, provided by the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FIBL) and the International Federation of Organic Agricultural Movements (IFOAM). The research of the state and trends of the Ukrainian organic market and agricultural production development was conducted, and using the SWOT analysis methodology and the principles laid out in the PEST analysis, its strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats were identified. Within each element, social, environmental, economic and financial constituents have been grouped, providing a possibility to understand which factor is determining in terms of sustainable development. It enabled to make a conclusion that the Ukrainian market remains small in size, entailing significant risks, first of all, for producers, as its further development requires a significant all-round support from the state both from the financial point of view and from the point of view of active promotion of sustainable development ideas and education of the population on the importance of consuming quality products, taking care about their health and, as a result, contributing to the improvement of the environment.

Abstract:
Topicality. The relevance of this scientific problem lies in the study of the evolution of the development of logistics as an economic category in order to determine the trends of its development, factors affecting this development, historical changes, as a basis for predicting and forecasting the further development of this direction of organization of market and logistics environment. Thus, known wisdom suggests that if we acknowledge the past, we cannot predict the future. That is, without this we cannot plan economic relations and influence their development. Aim and tasks. The purpose of the article is to determine: stages of logistics development, within which certain economic processes occurring in commodity markets are combined; defines the functions and logistics elements that make up the commodity markets; further prospects for the development of market logistics. Research results. The development of logistics is influenced by changes in the economic and practical sphere and the transformation of market relations, in particular, such transformational changes that influenced the logistics development can be characterized as follows: overproduction as a result of the development of the industrial economy; specialization under the pressure of cost savings in logistics processes; globalization as a process of development of the world economy and pressure of developed countries on others; a technological factor that has been developing at an accelerated pace in recent years and is becoming more influential). Four stages of development of logistics in historical dimension are defined (stage 1 is characterized by fragmentation of production processes, which influences the gradual transition of the economy from producer to buyer market; stage 2 extends the marketing concept, which focuses on strengthening the strategy of inventory formation; stage 3 is characterized by integration of logistics functions production and distribution entities of the market, which allows to achieve minimization of logistics costs; stage 4 characterizes the development of logistics by optimizing the time and space criteria, at this stage there are global logistics networks), which are formed on the basis of changes in market relations, as well as depending on the development of technological and technical factors characteristic of this or that stage. It is determined that the formation of these stages is influenced by the degree of development of economic market instruments, such as: marketing, integration, strategic planning, foresight forecasting. Conclusion. As a result of the study, the authors tried to predict the further development of logistics as a scientific field, taking into account the following factors: deepening conflict of interest between corporations and governments of different countries, which, under the influence of deglobalization, leads to the transformation of logistics of markets into simpler forms - supply chains with increased parameters of supply; transformation of consumer markets under the influence of the evolution of social needs, in which the individualization of public demand is beginning to dominate and the technology of individual supply through Internet networks is changing accordingly; the use of foresight forecasting as a progressive form of identifying and meeting public needs through the improvement of logistics services.

Abstract:
This paper highlights the origin and development of the Australian stock market. The country has three major stock exchanges, namely: the Australian Securities Exchange Group, the National Stock Exchange of Australia, and the Asia-Pacific Stock Exchange. These stock exchanges were born out of a string of stock exchanges that merged over time. Stock-market reforms have been implemented since the period of deregulation, during the 1980s; and the Exchanges responded largely positively to these reforms. As a result of the reforms, the Australian stock market has developed in terms of the number of listed companies, the market capitalisation, the total value of stocks traded, and the turnover ratio. Although the stock market in Australia has developed remarkably over the years, and was spared by the global financial crisis of the late 2000s, it still faces some challenges. These include the increased economic uncertainty overseas, the downtrend in global financial markets, and the restrained consumer confidence in Australia.

Abstract:
The problems of organizing the functioning of the land market in Ukraine remain unregulated. Gradually, they have moved from the economic plane to the political one, thereby exacerbating social tensions in the society. The current state of land relations requires immediate reforms in terms of granting the right to almost 7 million citizens to dispose of their property. Therefore, the issue of completion of land reform and the introduction of agricultural land market is a responsible step for the state and provides for the development of a set of measures based on the forecast of socio-economic consequences for the whole society. This step may be related to the transfer of land to private ownership, formation of a multi-sectoral economy on the basis of ensuring equal development of various forms of management, ensuring conditions for the efficient and rational use of land. The authors emphasize that the draft laws on land turnover submitted for discussion do not specify the issue of transparency of the possible introduction of a free land market and contradict each other. They do not take into account the international experience of developed countries.

Abstract:
Digital technologies are used in almost all types of modern activities. As a result, new professions and whole segments emerge on the labor market, structurally forming a certain transnational network. The article attempts to consider the processes of origin and prospects for the further development of the international electronic freelance market, taking into account the social aspects of this phenomenon. The paper uses methods of source analysis and notes the difficulties of statistical observation of processes occurring in real time. On the basis of a specially developed index and sociological survey data, the parameters of the international freelancing market are presented. This allows us to assess the positive trends in the expansion of the virtual employment process, as well as possible risks and problems. The study concludes that at present virtual labor relations, due to their professionalization and institutionalization, are becoming a real employment tool for various categories of workers, and also perform a set of social functions. The most important and promising consequence of the increased use of freelance labor from rural areas is a possible reversal in the trend of increasing urbanization, when the majority of the population is forced to look for work in large cities. The development of the virtual labor market in the future can help overcome barriers to the economic development of subsidized regions. However, real practice shows that due to the lack of labor standards and rights regulating this type of labor relations, especially in the regions of Asia and Africa, workers become heavily dependent on market fluctuations, limiting their access to health care and other social benefits. The search for the optimal model of social protection for freelancers is complicated by the fact that the administration of real incomes employed in this area becomes difficult. According to the author, the problems of providing freelancers with the full range of government guarantees are associated with the solution of many financial problems, which must be overcome by the full legalization of virtual employment.
