Streptomycetes represent a rich source of potentially useful therapeutics. However, in a laboratory environment, a large proportion of their secondary metabolite gene clusters remain silent, and thus their full metabolic potential is not realised. One way to unlock these so-called "cryptic" clusters may be to manipulate specific regulatory proteins. But, the vast majority of these regulators are uncharacterized, making it difficult to do this in a rational way. Feminist literary critics have long focused on the female gender role in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. This essay turns instead to the role of fatherhood in Frankenstein. Through the 1930s, an American woman suffering a broken engagement had the opportunity to sue her erstwhile suitor for breach of promise to marry. Relying on cultural and legal materials, my dissertation uses this now-obsolete cause of action as a lens through which to examine both shifting norms of gender and class during the period from 1890 to 1940 and the means by which Americans expected legal mechanisms to simultaneously shape and respond to socio-cultural changes.

L'autorité parentale n'est pas seulement de droits, elle est aussi de devoirs. A la suite de la séparation des parents, le juge aux ffaires familiales est compétent pour statuer sur l'exercice de cette autorité, lorsqu'un conflit parental persiste entre les parents. Le rôle que nous lui connaissons et qui consiste à régler le conflit parental dans le procès mérite d'être traité. Il permet en effet, de signaler que le juge des enfants est cet autre juge qui a vocation à intervenir, dans l'intérêt de l'enfant. La compétence de ce juge vient bousculer l'organisation judiciaire établie par le JAF.
