Abstract:
The growing capacity of artificial intelligence (AI) has been compared to how electricity transformed our world and industries a hundred years ago. AI is changing the rules, roles and tools of marketing, as marketing is one of the most prosperous areas to implement AI in. Accordingly, the role of marketing manager is expected to transform to a large extent. This calls for further research, since the area appears underexplored in relation to its weight of importance. Thus, the main purpose of this thesis is to contribute to the literature in marketing and management by exploring the ongoing transformation of the role of marketing managers. In order to fulfill this purpose, the following research question was formulated: How is the role of marketing managers in B2C-firms affected by increased levels of AI-capacity? In order to answer this question, a qualitative multiple-case study was conducted through semi-structured interviews with three marketing managers with experience of AI-usage in their field, as well as three experts at the intersection of AI and marketing. This triangulation was conducted to attain a nuanced and complementary view of the investigated area. The findings of this study suggest that increased levels of AI-capacity affect the role of marketing managers in B2C-firms both externally and internally. First, the increased usage of AI-technologies allows for better financial accountability of marketing managers, thus marketing managers can avert a greater influence in top management. Increased AI-capacity further implicates marketing in the way that marketing becomes more relevant, as well as opening new possibilities to build stronger relationships with customers. Further implicating the role of marketing managers are the evolving AI-assistants, in which the findings of this study suggest that they will increasingly become a crucial distribution channel and consequently, brands will increase in importance. This stands in contrast to previous research, which suggests as the AI-assistant solely base their decision on facts; focus should be shifted towards optimizing value propositions towards the AI-assistants, instead of the consumer. The findings of this study suggest that optimization towards the AI-assistants will indeed be crucial. But as more firms do so, the competitive advantage will be reduced to a hygiene factor, since all actors optimize in the same way, as was the case when search engine optimization grew and saturated. Thus, brand building will once again become a highly important decision-criterion among consumers. Further, as customer data collection is a major component in the usage of AI-technologies in marketing, the findings of this study suggest marketing managers will increasingly work with establishing transparent policies that benefit the customers. Moreover, increased usage of AItechnologies further demands marketing managers to be sufficiently knowledgeable in technology. As the responding experts believe AI-technologies are unlikely to replicate human EQ, intuition and creativity for a foreseeable future, marketing managers will still be vital to firms. This because the responding marketing managers reported these capabilities to be highly crucial in their role.

Abstract:
Monitoring the distribution, abundance and demography of species is vital to ensure that conservation efforts are appropriate and effective. Monitoring enables evaluation of responses to natural or human disturbance, highlights the need for management interventions and enables these interventions to be assessed and refined. The methods used largely depend on the specific aim of monitoring and behaviour of the target species, as well as the time and spatial scale that monitoring is required to cover. The European pine marten (Martes martes) is one of few remaining mammalian predators native to the UK. Since persecution in the early 19th century resulted in their near extinction, pine martens have recovered part of their former range in Scotland. Their recent recovery and an overlap in territory with vulnerable prey species such as the capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus) make the collection of accurate baseline data and subsequent monitoring of population trends vital for conservation efforts. Faecal counts have traditionally been used to provide a relative measure of population density for pine marten. In most cases, absolute measures of population density require individual identification. Non-invasive genotyping can provide this information but the quality of DNA from these samples is often poor. Here, the process is refined for pine marten faeces (scats) and hair samples. DNA degradation increased significantly for scats exposed to rainfall, with the rate of DNA amplification success reduced by 38% over a 16 day period. Success rates for hair samples were higher when more hair follicles were included in the analysis. Population densities were estimated for three forests in Scotland using a robust combination of non-invasive genotyping of hair samples and spatially explicit capture recapture modelling. Population density estimates of 0.07 (95% CI 0.03 - 0.16) to 0.38 km-2 (95% CI 0.11 - 1.07) were obtained which are within the range of previous estimates for forests elsewhere in Scotland. The first attempt to quantify the relationship between traditional scat counts and home range size was then conducted; a significant negative correlation exists but only when population density is relatively low. Previous studies suggest that pine martens in Western Europe are less forest dependent than those in Eastern Europe. Results from this thesis support this, with populations at the highest density found at sites with intermediate forest cover. This tolerance of lower forest cover is also apparent in the diet. Despite a preference for Myodes voles in populations in Eastern Europe, those in Western Europe show a strong preference for Microtus voles as well as a higher level of frugivory. We assess the autumn diet of four populations in Scotland assess the effect of forest cover and sex on the diet. There was no evidence of differential consumption of Microtus voles or birds between the sexes. Our analysis shows that frugivory is influenced by forest fragmentation, with a 5-fold increase in the occurrence of fruit (from 2% to 10%) as forest cover increased from 4% to 47%. Diversionary feeding has been suggested as a management technique to reduce the depredation of capercaillie by pine martens. This thesis presents the first attempt to quantify the success and cost-efficacy of diversionary feeding for a range of problems (crop damage, threatened safety, livestock depredation) across 30 experimental trials. The strategy proved more effective when targeted towards food-limited populations, and when aiming to alleviate habitat damage or risks to human safety rather than depredation. A novel decision-making framework was developed to aid managers with the initial planning of the strategy and its subsequent implementation within an adaptive format. Further to this, the feasibility of using diversionary feeding with a view to reduce the depredation of capercaillie by pine martens was assessed. Questionnaire responses were collected from people who have provided food for pine martens throughout Scotland. A positive reaction to food was observed, with 58% of respondents reporting that initial visits occurred within one week of placement and 46% reporting that subsequent visits were received daily. These results suggest that diversionary feeding may be a viable option for pine marten management, although testing of its impact on capercaillie productivity would be required.

Un des objectifs majeurs de l'Ecologie est de comprendre les mécanismes qui facilitent la coexistence des espèces. L'hypothèse de la complémentarité des niches prédit qu'afin de coexister, deux espèces sympatriques doivent différer dans les conditions nécessaires à leur survie pour une des trois principales dimensions écologiques, la dimension spatiale, la dimension temporelle et la dimension alimentaire. Les mécanismes qui permettent la syntopie chez les mammifères terrestres sont complexes et variés et, parmi les méso-carnivores, la sélection d'habitat différentielle est un phénomène très répandu permettant la coexistence. La martre Européenne (Martes martes) et la fouine (Martes foina) sont les deux espèces carnivores sympatriques les plus similaires en termes de phylogénie, morphologie, régime alimentaire et rythme d'activité. Dans une région rurale française (la Bresse) où les deux espèces sont présentes en sympatrie, nous avons montré une sélection de l'habitat différentielle qui pourrait expliquer leur coexistence. En utilisant des suivis télémétriques, nous avons montré que les deux espèces diffèrent dans leur patron d'utilisation des gîtes de repos diurnes (nombre de gîtes, surface couverte par les gîtes, principal habitat utilisé pour le gîte). De plus, à partir d'un nombre important d'individus génotypés, nous avons montré que les différences dans l'utilisation de l'habitat n'ont que de faibles conséquences sur les éléments du paysage qui influent sur les flux de gènes. En effet, alors que nous avons montré un impact négatif de la pression de piégeage plus important pour la fouine que pour la martre, la connectivité pour les deux espèces est principalement assurée par le couvert végétal alors que les routes, le bâti humain et le milieu ouvert la réduisent partiellement. Ces résultats, collectivement avec une comparaison morphométrique et une approche en dynamique de population, fournissent des éléments de réponse quant à ce patron de coexistence et ses conséquences sur ces deux espèces sympatriques
One of the major goals of ecology is to understand the mechanisms which promote species coexistence. The niche-complementarity hypothesis predicts that two sympatric species must differ in their requirements for one of the three main ecological dimensions, i.e. habitat use, diet and activity time, to coexist. Mechanisms that allow for synthopy in terrestrial mammals are complex and varied and, among mesocarnivores, differential habitat selection is a widespread evidenced phenomenon facilitating coexistence. Plus, this differential habitat selection must have consequences on the landscape elements influencing gene flow. It is thus important to gather information on species life history traits in terms of habitat use and selection and in terms of demographic and genetic responses to environmental perturbations. The European pine marten (Martes martes) and the stone marten (Martes foina) are the most similar sympatric carnivores in Europe taking into account phylogenetic relationships, morphology, foraging behaviour, and activity pattern. In a French rural region (Bresse, eastern France) where both species are present in sympatry, we evidenced differential habitat use which could theoretically explain their sympatry. Using telemetry data set, we shown that both species differed in their resting site patterns (number of resting sites, area over which they are distributed, main habitat type used for resting). Additionally, using large data set of genotyped individuals, we found that these habitat use differences have slight consequences on the landscape elements influence on gene flow. Indeed, while we shown a differential negative impact of the trapping pressure on the spatial genetic variation, connectivity in both species is mainly provided by vegetation cover while roads human buildings and open area partially impede it. These results, collectively with morphometric comparison and population dynamics approaches, provided better insights on the pattern and the consequences of the coexistence of the two sympatric species

Abstract:
The diet, habitat use and social organization of pine martens in Scotland was investigated by comparing data from marten populations at high and low density. Correction factors, determined from feeding trials with captive martens, were used to convert frequency of occurrence data, to estimates of the relative weight intake for each prey item in the scat. Spatial orientation and habitat utilization were determined from the radio tracking of 24 martens, 12 from each study area. In total 36 animals were caught, many of which were recaptured on a regular basis. All animals were aged by cross-sectioning of an extracted incisor and sexual activity in males was determined by measurements of blood hormones and abdominal scent gland activity. The density of martens in each area was assessed using an injection of radio isotope to label the scats of captured animals. The results showed that in both study areas the principal prey of martens were cervid carrion and field voles Microtus agrestis and that the preferred prey was field vole. The new method of interpreting the diet from prey remains in the scats suggests that the importance of invertebrates and fruit may have been over estimated by previous authors. A new method to analyse differential use of vegetation types form low resolution radio-fixes (fixes being assigned to grid cells likely to contain more than one vegetation type) is proposed. The results showed that martens selected vegetation types based on the cover each provided and that territories were established relative to a constant amount of woodland per individual: 126 + /- 40 Ha. Despite the high density of the preferred prey Microtus in open vegetation types, open vegetation was avoided within territories as well as in territory selection. It is suggested that selection for vegetation types, at this level, is driven by predator avoidance but that selection between different wooded vegetation types is determined by prey availability and to a lesser extent suitable den sites.

Abstract:
Although the American marten (Martes americana) generally is recognized as an obligate late-seral species, the factors dictating this association are poorly understood. Martens were studied in Newfoundland, Yellowstone National Park, and in a captive setting. As expected, use of habitat types was not proportional to availability P < 0.001). Defoliated and late-seral conifer stands were used more than expected, while all other types indicated expected or less than expected use. Habitat selection by martens was detectable at spatial scales greater than 80 m (P < 0.001). Newfoundland martens were radio-collared and monitored for diet activity during the winters of 1990 and 1991. A regression of the percent active fixes on temperature had a negative slope (P = -4.45, P= 0.084, n = 12), indicating that martens did not minimize their exposure to low temperatures. A log-linear model suggested that the presence or absence of light was the only factor associated with marten activity patterns (P < 0.001). Martens in Western Newfoundland and a population in Yellowstone National Park were tested for their response to predation risk using bait stations in various habitat types. Visitation rates of martens at bait-boxes were not different between study sites (P = 0 .190). However, martens visitation by habitat was different (P = 0.001). Martens use of bait-boxes was similar in old-growth and defoliated habitats, suggesting that foliar cover may not have a strong influence on the risk of predation for martens during winter. Martens did use bait-boxes in defoliated stands to a greater extent than those in open habitats (P < 0.001), suggesting that they perceived stem structure as decreasing predation risk. In captive experiments, martens selected areas with both overhead cover and woody stem structure (P = 0.012). I detected no difference between the use of areas with only overhead cover and those having only stem structure (P = 0.671). However, martens decreased foraging activity in response to a predatory cue (P = 0.004). The inability of martens to use food resources in areas lacking cover during the summer suggests a perception of increased threat associated with these areas.

Abstract:
It is common practice to re‐release wildlife back into the wild, even though there is little data on the effectiveness of this practice with respect to animal welfare or cost effectiveness. The aim of my study was to examine the post‐release behaviour of captive‐reared orphaned stone martens (Martes foina) and the impact of conspecifics' presence on this behaviour. Radio‐telemetry was used to collect behavioural and survival data; a questionnaire survey within the local community and live‐trapping were used to determine the presence of other martens and to investigate public attitudes towards martens. Specific aims were to determine: (1) the post‐release survival of martens; (2) the potential for human‐marten conflict; (3) the martens' pattern of post‐release ranging behaviour; and (4) the impact of conspecifics' presence on this behaviour. On the basis of previous studies, I expected abnormal behaviour immediately after release, together with a reasonable rate of short‐term survival; but there was no previous evidence relating to mid‐ or long‐term survival. A total of twelve martens were released, of which eight were followed successfully for at least 4 months. There was considerable individual variation in post‐release behaviour. Survival rate was high (0.66), indicating that young martens were able to establish sustainable home ranges. Released martens did not seem to cause significant human‐wildlife conflict and only one of the released animals settled in a village. Live‐trapping and the questionnaire survey indicated that martens were already established in the area and I suggest that this was why more of the young captive‐reared martens did not settle in villages. Public attitudes towards martens were generally positive. I conclude that in the medium‐term, release of captive‐reared martens is acceptable as regards animal welfare and cost‐effectiveness. However, further work is needed to examine long‐term survival and post‐release behaviour.

Atlikus Lietuvoje gyvenančių kiaunių gausos ir sumedžiojimo analizę nustatyta, kad pastarąjį dešimtmetį Lietuvoje kasmet vidutiniškai sumedžiojama apie 500 kiaunių. Tendencija didėjanti. Iki šiol nežinoma kiek kiaunių sumedžiojama pagal atskiras jų rūšis. Naudojant du skirtingus amžiaus nustatymo metodus, abiejų kiaunių rūšių (M. martes ir M. foina) pirmamečių individų nustatyta daugiau nei suaugusių. Pirmamečių miškinės kiaunės patelių buvo nustatyta 12,5 % daugiau nei pirmamečių patinų. Nustatyta, kad abiejų kiaunių rūšių patinai buvo stambesni už pateles, tačiau jų lytinis dimorfizmas nėra stipriai išreikštas. Abiejų kiaunių rūšių patinai statistiškai patikimai skyrėsi tik pagal kūno masės ir krūtinės apimties duomenis (p< 0,1). Ištyrus Lietuvos kiaunių užsikrėtimą trichinelioze, konstatuota, kad 8,3 proc. kiaunių nustatyta Trichinella sp., o 1 g raumenų vidutiniškai rasta 1 šio parazito lerva.
After the assessment of martens abundance and hunting analysis stated that in past ten years in Lithuania the hunted martens are 500. The hunting tendency and numbers are growing. At this moment is unknown number about hunting different species individually (M. martes & M. foina). In this population first year specimens was dominating against adults. First year Pine marten female in population was 12,5 % more than first year males. Both species martens males were larger than females, but the sexual dimorphism wasn’t strong . Both species males had two different statistically positive features – body weight and chest size (p< 0,1). Investigated Lithuanian martens from trichinelosis was determined that 8,3 % martens has Trichinella spp. and in 1g. Muscle in average was found 1 this parasite larvae.

Esta tese tem como objeto de análise o personagem Franz Biberkopf em relação com seu entorno: a cidade de Berlim. Biberkopf é o protagonista do romance Berlin Alexanderplatz (1929), de Alfred Döblin, e da adaptação homônima para a televisão alemã, escrita e dirigida por Rainer Werner Fassbinder e que foi ao ar na Alemanha pela primeira vez em 1980. Ambas as obras constituem o corpus desta pesquisa. O principal objetivo é analisar a inadequação desse personagem ao seu ambiente histórico-social. Biberkopf é um ex-presidiário que, no enredo dessas obras, tenta reencontrar seu espaço na cidade de Berlim entre os anos de 1928 e 1929 após ter cumprido quatro anos de detenção. Ele vive na cidade como um sujeito desajustado, e sua inadequação à sociedade berlinense é investigada aqui como o fenômeno da Entfremdung (alienação), com base, principalmente, na fenomenologia do Fremd, de Bernhard Waldenfels, e a crítica da alienação, de Rahel Jaeggi. A base teórica deste trabalho, portanto, é interdisciplinar, abrangendo as matrizes da literatura (teoria literária), do cinema/TV (teoria do cinema) e da filosofia.
This thesis aims at analyzing the character Franz Biberkopf regarding his surroundings: the city of Berlin. Biberkopf is the protagonist of the novel Berlin Alexanderplatz (1929), by Alfred Döblin, and the same name adaptation for the German television, written and directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, and which was aired in Germany for the first time in 1980. Both works are the corpus of this research. The main focus is to analyze the characters inadequacy in his social-historical environment. Biberkopf is an ex-convict who, in the plot of these works, tries to regain his space in Berlin between the years of 1928 and 1929, after four years of detention. He lives as a misfit person in the city, and his inadequacy to Berlin society 6 is investigated here as the Entfremdung (alienation) phenomenon, based mainly on phenomenology of the alien, by Bernhard Waldenfels, and on critique of alienation, by Rahel Jaeggi. Therefore, the theoretical basis of this work is interdisciplinary, covering the fields of literature (literary theory), cinema/TV (cinema theory) and philosophy.

L'etude des communications olfactives chez la martre (martes martes l. ) a ete entreprise dans le but de tester l'hypothese selon laquelle, pour les especes solitaires, le marquage olfactif peut etre considere comme un mode de communication autodirigee dont la fonction principale serait la familiarisatin avec l'environnement. L'analyse des variations du marquage olfactif en fonction de modificatins de l'environnement physique et social d'animaux maintenus en milieu artificiel a permis de montrer que ce type de communication est soumis aux effets de la nouveaute, de la relation sociale et du rut. Cependant, la reaction identique et constante des animaux aux differents types de perturbatins de leur milieu qui se traduit toujours par une elevation significative des frequences du marquage olfactif, conforte l'hypothese precedente. Meme si les contraintes sociales modifient l'activite du marquage des animaux (les frequences chutent lors des interactions sociales et sont dependantes du statut social de chaque individu), il semble que la familiarite avec un environnement soit preponderante devant des imperatifs et que ces modifications soient en fait des adaptations soient en fait des adaptations d'un mode de communication effectue dans un but de familiarisation. Chez la martre, le marquage n'est pas directement correle a l'agression alors que ce type de relation existe chez de nombreuses especes de carnivores territoriaux et plus particulierement chez les especes gregaires. La question d'une evolution des modes de communication et de leurs significations, des especes solitaires aux especes gregaires, est discutee a partir d'exemples tires d'especes de la famille des mustelides a laquelle appartient la martre

Tato práce se zabývá dílem režisérky Lucrecie Martelové, představitelky současného argentinského filmu. Její celovečerní filmy analyzuje z hlediska narativního, auralního, vizuálního a tematického. Martelová tvrdí, že při výstavbě svých filmů užívá principu “vrstvení” narativního a emocionálního obsahu a práce zkoumá, co toto tvrzení skutečně znamená. Pomocí těchto elementů charakterizuje jedinečné autorské kvality Martelové. Zvláštní důraz je kladen na gramatiku filmového jazyka, zvuk a obraz, kterých filmařka užívá ke sdělení relevantních informací o dějové linii a k vytvoření smysluplných metafor. Tato práce přispívá k relativně malému množství anglicky psané literatury o Lucrecii Martelové.

Esta dissertação procura analisar a temática proletária nas letras brasileiras, propondo o seguinte recorte cronológico e temático: do socialismo e anarquismo da Belle Époque, ao comunismo do entre-guerras. Para tanto, os três capítulos da dissertação exploram desde as primeiras leituras da doutrina marxista no Brasil, passando pela literatura anarquista, até a produção dos romances proletários. O trabalho registra as referências de Machado de Assis e Euclides da Cunha a Marx. Conta também a trajetória anarquista de Lima Barreto e seu apoio à Revolução Russa de 1917, além de discutir a relação dos intelectuais com o comunismo desde o ano de 1922 até a década de 30. Finalmente, destaca o romance proletário através de três obras: O Gororoba (1931), de Lauro Palhano, Cacau (1933), de Jorge Amado, Parque Industrial (1933), de Patrícia Galvão. Objetivou-se, dessa maneira, resgatar, entre nós, a temática proletária, esquecida à margem pelo cânone.
This dissertation aims to analyse the proletarian theme in the Brazilian literature, suggesting the following chronological cut: from the socialism and anrchism of the belle époque to the communism of the period between the First and Second Wars. To do so, the three chapters of the dissertation explit since the first readings of Marxist doctrine in Brazil, passing through anarchist literature until the production of proletarian literature. The work registers the references from Machado de Assis and Euclides da Cunha until Marx. It also tells the anarchist trajectory of Lima Barreto and his support to the Russian Revolution of 1917.The work discusses the relationship of the intellectuals with Communism since the year of 1922 until the 30's. Finally, the proletarian novel is emphasised through three works: O Gororoba (1931) by Lauro Palhano, Cacau (1933) by Jorge Amado, Parque Industrial (1933) by Patrícia Galvão. It was the goal rescue the proletarian thematic among us, since it was forgoteen by the canon.

During the past decade, Lucrecia Martel has emerged as the most respected filmmaker from South America. This thesis is motivated by my conviction that Martel's films are worthy of serious engagement and critical scrutiny. It is also motivated by my curiosity about the seemingly inexhaustible pleasure and edification I derive from them. Martel describes her filmmaking as "cine de autor" (auteur cinema). Indeed, her films evidence a personal involvement in every aspect of filmmaking. This thesis will define and explore the characteristics and conditions of her authorship. This thesis constitutes an expression of the enduring usefulness of auteurist criticism. In this case, this critical approach is entirely appropriate and likely to yield the deepest insights into the films. The introduction to my thesis provides pertinent biographical information and the necessary socio-cultural context to set the stage for an intellectual immersion into her three features to date: The Swamp (2001), The Holy Girl (2004) and The Headless Woman (2008). I propose that these films constitute a trilogy that distills Martel's experience of growing up in the remote province of Salta and critiques the social and cultural forces at play in provincial Latin American life. However, no matter how specific the sense of place the films convey and how grounded they are in subjective experience, they illuminate universal aspects of being a person in the world and contain progressive prescriptions for living from which anyone can benefit. My research into the literature on the films of Lucrecia Martel failed to find any serious and thorough appraisal of Lucrecia Martelâ??s films as a trilogy. While my analysis benefits from familiarity with the available literature, the operative critical approach privileges my direct experience with the audiovisual material provided by the films. Each film will be subjected to a close reading illustrated with images from it. These readings focus sharply on certain sequences I deem crucial to the conveyance of characterization, meaning and ideology. These readings aim to think with the films rather than think against or about them. They explore the themes and issues that arise within the narratives of the films as well as the formal means by which they do.

This report is the result of several interviews of employees within the field of pedagogy. The background behind this report is my period as a trainee in one of the daily activities in Malmo. In daily activities the employers gets training, education and guidance in Marte meo, which is funded by public finances. The method, which this study focuses upon is called Marte meo. It is a method of communicating and developing the means for the participants to evolve their skills in communicating and increase self esteem. In my time as a trainee I noticed that there was no follow up and no feedback to the educators. Nobody knew if the method was, in any way practiced. This study confirms that it in fact is practiced, but in several different ways, which leads to the conclusion that the qualities in the method is many and different from each other . The focus of this report lies completely on the employers in the daily activities. They have been given the opportunity to freely describe in detail how Marte meo is practiced, the pro's and con's of Marte meo and in which way the relations with the participants effect the professional pedagogy.

O objeto deste texto é o ruído em sua relação com a música. Minha ideia é investigar, nem sempre num percurso linear, o papel que ele desempenha na música, especialmente no período que vai do início do século XX aos dias de hoje. Essa investigação não está voltada para um levantamento técnico, nem historicista do tema. Minha preocupação está mais voltada a uma camada mais profunda em que transparecem algumas conexões entre o que chamamos de pensamento musical e a própria cultura que engendra esse pensamento. O ruído é um elemento essencial para o entendimento de certos aspectos da Modernidade, especialmente no que diz respeito à produção musical (e porque não dizer, à produção das artes em geral) no período. O que pretendo mostrar é que muitas das contradições e tensões que alimentam a música moderna podem ser entendidas como movimentos em direção à aceitação ou rejeição do ruído. A ideia central deste texto é a de que existe um processo dialético recorrente na relação entre música e ruído. Como algo incômodo, marginal, o ruído tende a ser evitado, pois sempre traz o risco de desagregação de um sistema. Minha intenção é investigar a passagem do ruído, enquanto elemento desorganizador, para som quando incorporado na música. Essa relação se direciona a uma compreensão da maneira como o ruído, no século XX, tornou-se um elemento desestabilizador, instaurando uma tensão dialética entre sua rejeição e sua aceitação enquanto elemento musical.
The object of this research is the noise and its relationship with music. My idea is to investigate, not always through linear path, the role it plays in music, especially in the period from early twentieth century to now. This investigation is not focused on a technical survey, nor on an historicist approach to the theme. My concern is more focused on a deeper layer in which one can find some connections between what we call \"musical\" and the very culture that generates it. Noise is an essential element for the understanding of certain aspects of modernity, especially in respect of music production (and why not to say, of art production in general) in that period. What I want to show is that many of the contradictions and tensions that feed modern music can be understood as a movement toward acceptance or rejection of noise. The central idea of this text is that there is a recurring dialectical process in the relationship between music and noise. As a disturbance, as a marginal element, noise tends to be avoided, because it always brings the risk of desegregating a system. My intention is to investigate the passage from noise as a disruptive element to music. This relationship is directed to an understanding of how noise has become a destabilizing element, establishing a dialectic tension between its rejection and acceptance as a musical element.

Esta dissertação enquadra-se em um processo de busca de soluções para a geração do leiaute de circuitos integrados que permitam aumentar a qualidade da previsibilidade do comportamento de um circuito após a sua implementação. Isso é importante face ao crescimento dos problemas referentes aos efeitos elétricos adversos que surgem em nanocircuitos, tais como eletromigração, efeito antena, contatos mal formados e outros, assim como o aumento da variabilidade do processo de fabricação em tecnologias submicrônicas. O foco deste trabalho de pesquisa é a busca de soluções regulares através do uso de matrizes de portas lógicas. A experimentação efetuada realiza a geração de uma matriz de portas NAND que viabiliza a implementação de equações lógicas mapeadas para redes de portas NAND e inversores, admitindo-se a parametrização do fanout máximo. Foi desenvolvida uma ferramenta de CAD, o MARTELO, que permite efetuar a geração automática de matrizes de portas lógicas, sendo que a versão inicial está voltada para a geração de matrizes com portas NAND em tecnologia CMOS. Os experimentos efetuados revelam que esta técnica é promissora, sendo apresentados alguns dos resultados obtidos.

The "Den Mother" marten habitat quality models were created to provide insight into American marten habitat selection behavior and to promote the recovery of the Newfoundland marten (Martes americana atrata) population. Although these objectives are typical of most wildlife habitat modeling projects, the marten's idiosyncratic habitat ecology and apparently intractable conflicts associated with timber harvesting motivated a unique, process-oriented approach to appraising landscapes. The Den Mother models used optimal decision-making principles to synthesize critical resources (den sites and foraging opportunities) and constraints (adverse thermal situations and exposure to predations) into a single hierarchical framework. The resulting spatially explicit, combinatorial optimization models depend on a complex array of interacting assumptions. However, in mechanistic models, explicit assumptions provide the means by which insights are gained. For example, manipulating prey population parameters provided a clear demonstration of how resource conditions confound the relationship between landscape configuration and marten fitness, thereby challenging conventional definitions of habitat based on vegetation alone. Likewise, the models' sensitivity to spatial circumstances argued against the concept of an "optimal landscape," a traditional objective for wildlife habitat analyses. Although the model analyses did not refute the conventional wisdom that marten are strongly associated with (and may depend on) large contiguous blocks of senescing and defoliated forests, they did suggest that the marten is an opening-sensitive, rather than coresensitive, species. The models also suggested new avenues for research addressing marten den site selection, predator avoidance behavior, foraging efficiency, and space use strategies, as well as new techniques for assessing the trade-offs that govern marten habitat selection behavior. Finally, the models also suggested new guidelines for promoting marten recovery in an adaptive management context, including recommendations for placing artificial resting structures; creating favorable landscape mosaics; managing ephemeral resources such as transition old-growth forests, defoliation, and coarse woody debris; and developing alternative, competing management scenarios that address both forest and prey conditions simultaneously.

The stone marten (MarIes foina) is common throughout continental Europe where it often occurs in urban environments. Conflicts between humans and martens arise when the animals den under the roofs of inhabited buildings or damage car engine components. The aims ofmy study were (a) to provide a general description of the ecology and behaviour ofurban stone martens and (b) to formulate management recommendations based on these data. I radio tracked 13 stone martens in two toWIis in southern Luxembourg. Individuals were followed at night to provide information about ranging and territorial behaviour, and fixes were taken during the day to provide information about den sites. I also radio tracked five translocated martens in order to assess the usefulness oftranslocation as a management tool. .The socio-spatial organisation of urban martens was based on clear intrasexual territoriality. Territories were generally smaller than those previously recorded in rural areas and activities were almost entirely restricted to urban habitat. Urban martens were completely nocturnal ,and their activity rhythms were adapted to achieve temporal avoidance ofhumans and traffic. Martens deIUled almost exclusively in buildings. Most deIUling was in uninhabited buildings during summer, autUfIU1 and spring but there was a marked shift towards inhabited buildings in winter. There was also a clear seasonal pattern in martens' use of roads and cars. This, together with observations of scent marking ofcars, suggests that car damage is linked to the species' territorial behaviour. I review possible explanations for my results and conclude that in most respects martens are typical 'urban adapters'. I suggest various recommendations for human-marten conflict management in light of-my findings

Abstract:

Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka var, när och hur Marte meometoden används i samspelsbehandling. Resultatet bygger dels på enkät ställd till medlemmar i Marte meoföreningen, dels på intervjuer med fyra Marte meoterapeuter. Enkäten visade att Marte meo används på olika platser i landet, inom olika verksamheter och av många yrkeskategorier, främst socionomer och pedagoger. Metoden kombineras med andra metoder och interventioner, oftast samtal. Marte meobehandlingen anpassas efter det enskilda barnets behov och interventionerna modifieras efter barnets utvecklingsnivå. Metodens fördelar anges av de intervjuade vara att den är konkret och har fokus på barnet. Möjligheten att tillämpa ”the three r´s” enligt Sameroffs modell för Marte meobehandling diskuteras. Målet i behandlingen är att öka förälderns lyhördhet för barnets signaler. Positivt behandlingsresultat genom Marte meobehandlingen beskrivs utifrån intersubjektiva processer. Bildens betydelse i förändringsarbetet lyfts fram som bidragande till att nå djupare nivåer. Angelägen fortsatt forskning är att se hur olika faktorer runt barnet påverkar samspelet och hur samspelet inverkar på mentaliseringsförmågan. Fördjupade undersökningar om hur det triadiska samspelet ser ut skulle kunna bidra till kunskapsutveckling. Utprovade mätmetoder, exempelvis för att värdera samspelets kvalitet, underlättar forskning.

In this work it is discussed the improvement in the modal test for obtaining the Frequency Response Function (FRF) in low natural frequency structures by using as exciter an instrumented hammer. There are two conflicting needs in this kind of test: on the one hand, the low natural frequencies of the structure, which are usually associated with low damping, demand long acquisition time so that good resolution in the spectrum may exist. On the other hand, the sampling rate must be increased to correctly catch the short duration signal of the hammer. This leads to an elevated number of points in the signal to be acquired, and there may eventually be limitation on such number of points when using spectrum analyzers in the acquisition and obtaining of the FRFs. Thus, in this work, the selective decimation technique explored for the improvement of the test. The work includes the construction of a prototype with two degrees of freedom (S2GL) to serve as case study for the tests enabling the theoretical and experimental Frequency Response Functions (FRF) to be compared, as well as adjusting the parameters of the model. The MATLAB programming language was used for obtaining the FRFs. The efficiency of the improvement applied was verified through the frequency spectra, in which it was observed significant resemblance between the non-decimated FRF with the acquisition having a high number of points, and the decimated FRF with smaller number of points and selected so that it could preserve the correct detection of the hammer signal.
Neste trabalho discute-se o aprimoramento do teste modal para obtenção da Função Resposta em Freqüência (FRF) em estruturas de baixas freqüências naturais utilizando como excitador um martelo instrumentado. Há duas necessidades conflitantes neste tipo de teste: de um lado, as baixas freqüências naturais da estrutura, usualmente associadas com baixo amortecimento, requerem um tempo longo de aquisição para haver boa resolução no espectro. Por outro lado, a taxa de amostragem deve ser elevada para captar corretamente o sinal de curta duração do martelo. Isto leva a um número elevado de pontos no sinal a ser adquirido, havendo eventualmente limitação de tal número de pontos ao se utilizar analisadores de espectro na aquisição e obtenção das FRFs. Neste sentido, neste trabalho foi explorada a técnica de decimação seletiva para aprimoramento do teste. O trabalho inclui a construção de um protótipo com dois Graus de Liberdade (S2GL) para servir como objeto de estudo para os testes deste aprimoramento, permitindo assim, comparar as Funções Resposta em Freqüências (FRF) teóricas e experimentais, bem como ajustar os parâmetros do modelo. Utilizou-se da linguagem de programação MATLAB® para a obtenção das FRFs. A eficiência do aprimoramento empregado foi verificada através dos espectros de freqüência, onde observou-se uma significativa similaridade entre a FRF não decimada com a aquisição possuindo um número elevado de pontos e a FRF decimada com menor número de pontos e selecionada de modo a preservar a correta detecção do sinal do martelo.

A cabeça lateralmente expandida é a principal sinapomorfia da família Sphyrnidae, a qual compreende todos os tubarões-martelo. Apesar de haver trabalhos abordando esta família, sua anatomia interna tem sido negligenciada como fonte de caracteres para serem utilizados na taxonomia e filogenia dos Sphyrnidae, em especial acerca de seu cefalofólio. Além disso, outros caracteres permanecem pouco estudados na família, tais como os referentes à anatomia dentária, dentículos dérmicos e sistema de poros sensoriais do cefalofólio. As relações filogenéticas entre os Sphyrnidae, e desta família entre os demais Carcharhiniformes, ainda é controversa como sua taxonomia. As poucas hipóteses filogenéticas conhecidas, baseadas em morfologia, não foram testadas sob critérios sistemáticos. Já as poucas hipóteses moleculares existentes foram testadas mas são ainda mais controversas. O presente estudo apresenta uma revisão anatômica e taxonômica dos Sphyrnidae, construindo uma matriz de caracteres mais robusta para testar as relações filogenéticas entre os Sphyrnidae, contando com 3 gêneros relacionados no grupo externo: Carcharhinus, Rhizoprionodon e Negaprion. Os resultados posicionam S. tiburo na base da família, e E. blochii e S. tudes compondo um dos clados mais derivados. Espécies de maior porte e cefalofólio mais expandido compõem um clado formado por S. mokarran + (S. lewini + S. zygaena), ao passo que as de menor porte e com cefalofolio mais arredondado formam um grupo polifilético. Rhizoprionodon acutus aparece como monofilético à família Sphyrnidae quando incluído fora do grupo externo. As árvores de consenso (Strictus, Semi-strictus, Majority-rule e Adams) apresentam os mesmos resultados. Os caracteres cranianos, sensoriais e de dentículo dérmico são os que mais suportaram os diversos clados. Após a revisão taxonômica da família, a filogenia com base em morfologia apresentou-se mais consistente e clara, embora controversa aos dados moleculares.
The laterally expanded head is the main synapomorphy of the family Sphyrnidae, which comprises all the hammerhead sharks. In spite of the existence of some works on this family, the internal anatomy have been neglected as a soured of characters to be used in the taxonomy and phylogeny of this family, especially about the cephalofoil. Additionally, other characters remains poorly studied in Sphyrnidae, such as the complete teeth anatomy, dermal denticles and sensorial system of pores in the cephalofoil. It is advocated here that the study of such sources of features would give new characters to construct a more robust matrix to be used in the phylogeny of this family. The interrelationships within the Sphyrnidae, as well as of this family among the other Carcharhiniformes is still controversial as their taxonomy. The few phylogenetical hypothesis based on morphology were never tested before, besides accepted by many authors. In the other hand, the few hypothesis based on molecular data were tested but are even more controversial. The present study presents a anatomic and taxonomic review of the family Sphyrnidae, constructing a more robust matrix that were tested to verify the interrelationships within the family Sphyrnidae, using, for the first time, 3 related genera: Carcharhinus, Rhizoprionodon and Negaprion. The results show that S. tiburo is the most basal living sphyrnid, and E. blochii and S. tudes comprise one of the most derived clade. The large species with the most expanded cephalofoil comprise a monophyletic clade S. mokarran + (S. lewini + S. zygaena), while the small sized species with a more rounded cephalofoil are a polifiletic group. Rhizoprionodon acutus appeared as monophyletic to Sphyrnidae when included ouside the outgroup. The consensus trees (Strictus, Semi-strictus, Majority-rule and Adams showed the same relashionships. The cranial characters supported many clades, followed by sensorial and dermal denticle features. After the taxonomic review of the family, the phylogeny presented to be consistent, besides still controversial to molecular data.
