Baranoglu, Selen. "An Analysis Of Mary Shelley." Master's thesis, METU, 2008. http://etd.lib.metu.edu.tr/upload/12610151/index.pdf.

Abstract:
This thesis carries out an analysis of Mary Shelley&rsquo
s Frankenstein and Robert Louis Stevenson&rsquo
s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by focusing on the Lacanian concepts of desire, alienation and sexuality. It achieves this by providing brief background information about Lacanian psychoanalytic literary criticism and the relations of this criticism with the concepts of desire, alienation and sexuality. Through the analysis of the main characters in the mentioned novels, this study asserts that these concepts are structured with the effect of the Lacanian symbolic order and the language. In other words, in this study, it is argued that the formation of the human personality takes place in the unconscious, where desire, alienation and sexuality are formed. In both of these Gothic novels, the personalities of the characters are structured in relation to their life experience in the symbolic order.

Abstract:
This thesis investigates sacrifice in experimental narratives of the early twentieth century by May Sinclair, Mary Butts, and H. D. (Hilda Doolittle). I argue that sacrifice is used as a narrative strategy for negotiating the relationship between self and other, not only on a thematic level, but also in terms of narrative strategy. These shifts are not only indicative of the tendency to experiment with unexpected narrative strategies in early twentieth century fiction, but also reveal a concern with the individual self in relation to a community of other selves that intersects several wider issues in the historical/cultural context of the works studied: the First World War, first-wave feminism, psychoanalysis, and anthropological research. As first-, second-, and third-person modes of narration are interspersed, the boundaries between narrative selves are continually dissolved and reinstated. The continuous negotiation of the boundaries of the narrative voice means that these narratives promote both the death and the resurrection of the subjective self through the use of sacrifice as a narrative strategy.

Abstract:
The primary concern in this thesis has been to examine the moral status of the embryo and whether it is morally justifiable to use embryos as research material. This has been the topic of a fervent debate in the area of bioethics for the last decade. Proponents of embryonic stem cell research proclaim the paramount importance of such research and they argue for the use of embryos in research, on the ground that they are not persons and hence, they do not have a moral worth. The opponents of embryonic stem cell research, on the other hand, insist that embryos are persons and have full moral value as a result of their humanity, therefore embryos should never be used as mere means. I believe the moral status of human embryos needs not be an 'all-or-nothing' issue. Although, embryos lack most, if not all, the characteristics of personhood, they still have something that can award to them a basic level of moral worth that is integral to their humanity. This thesis argues for the intrinsic moral value of human embryos in virtue of their intrinsic nature. First, I look at the advances of biomedical research and all the possible future benefits of stem cell research. Then, in order to reveal the intrinsic nature of human embryos and consequently human beings, an anthropological theory that takes into account the complexity of human life is required. In search for such an anthropological account a critical appraisal of the thought of John Harris, Mary Warnock and H. Tristram Engelhardt is undertaken. In contrasting the thought of Harris and Warnock, difficulties arising from their understanding of human nature have been seen to be problematic, mainly their inability to distinguish between the terms 'full moral value' and 'intrinsic moral value'. In contrast, Engelhardt being a Christian theologian, proclaims the holistic anthropological theory that is to be found in the Christian traditions. However, he argues that such an anthropological theory is not tenable outside the Christian edifice. I show that contrary to Engelhardt's view, holism can be justified not only theologically but philosophically and scientifically. I suggest that holism better captures the fundamental nature of human beings and hence, can lead us to a more accurate assessment of the moral status of the human embryo. I conclude that the deliberate creation and destruction of human embryos is morally wrong, especially when other alternatives for the continuation of this type of research are widely available.

Pereira, Ismael Bernardo. "Connections between the gothic and science fiction in Frankenstein, Strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and the island of Dr. Moreau." reponame:Biblioteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações da UFRGS, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/10183/179441.

Abstract:
This thesis establishes a dialogue among three books from 19th century British literature: the novel Frankenstein (1818), by M. W. Shelley; the novella Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886), by Robert Louis Stevenson; and the novel The Island of Dr. Moreau (1896), by H. G. Wells. This comparison is made based on the specific Gothic and Science fiction conventions present in the books. The main theoretical support for the definition of genres employed here comes from Tzvetan Todorov. The author argues that genres are inevitable as horizons of interpretation, entities in constant change which tend to create new genres from pre-existent ones, in a chain of influences. This thesis considers this supposition to determine how Gothic and Science fiction make themselves present in the works analyzed, in a way that Gothic traits, being adapted through time, give way to similar but yet innovative conventions, which subsequently would be considered a new literary genre. Primarily, considerations concerning the concept of genres through history are made, all of which show how this study was kept constant. Hereafter, certain conventions regarding both genres are defined, as well as the manner they dialogue amongst themselves. The second part of the thesis is dedicated to the analysis of Frankenstein and Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and establishes the predominance of Gothic conventions – especially the ones related to the inner conflict of the characters, such as the "double" –, while considering the emergence of scientific themes, such as the creator/creature relationship and scientific ambition. The last section verifies how the first cycle of H. G. Wells' Science fiction in a broad sense, and The Island of Dr. Moreau in a strict sense, reemploy conventions of both genres, serving to consolidate the latter. Therefore, it is concluded that there was an evolution which enabled the emergence of a new genre, considering the historical contexts and the books analyzed. This consideration justifies genres as wide-ranging, non-restrictive entities, which may be present in various works simultaneously and broaden their horizon of interpretation.

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to study the adaptation process of the TV-show Game of Thrones. This paper focuses mainly on how David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and HBO adapted the TV-show from George R.R. Martins book series A Song of Ice and Fire and what, in the adaptation and in the reception of the TV-show, made it such a global cultural phenomenon. The analysis has been done by analysing interviews and studying behind-the-scenes material that has been available through articles and bonus material provided by the web and on the DVD and Blu-Ray features of the show. Mary H. Snyders Analyzing Literature-to-Film Adaptations provides a ground tool of analysing adaptations where particularly her “A Marriage of Media” theory has significantly helped the study. The paper analyses fantasy as a genre, the book series that the TV-show is based on, and the adaptation process itself and the different components that make up for the TV-show called Game of Thrones. After the adaptation analysis there is a study on how the internet has helped distributing both the show’s popularity and the show itself through the use of illegal downloading. The result is that the adaption is a successful “Marriage between media”, to use Snyders words, where the internet can be seen as product of that metaphorical marriage. The confidence and trust that both the author of the books and the show runners of the TV-series has placed in each other is the binding fundament that made the adaption as successful as it is. HBO as a cable network company also play a significant part where the financial support to the show’s production and the non-existent censorship regarding the adult content otherwise wouldn’t have been provided for, had the show been produced and/or aired by any other network company for example. The previous successes of other fantasy adaptations such as The Lord of the Rings and the Harry Potter-series could also be seen as necessary initiators regarding the industry’s newfound openness towards large scale fantasy projects.

Atkinson, Jason S. "Prophecy in Mari, Neo-Assyrian and Hebrew sources : a comparative study." Thesis, University of Edinburgh, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/1842/33118.

Full text
Abstract:
It is widely acknowledged that the phenomenon of prophecy was not restricted only to ancient Israel, but is well attested throughout the ancient Near East, not least but in the textual material retrieved from the Mesopotamian capitals of Mari and Nineveh. A number of recent studies have utilized these sources to discuss the literary history and rhetorical content of Hebrew prophecy. The following thesis differs from these by undertaking to examine and compare the institution of prophecy as it occurs in the Mari, Neo-Assyrian, and Hebrew sources. -Prophecy‖ is considered to be a mode of non-inductive divination, separate from dreams, that, ideally, is denoted by the active intermediation of allegedly divine messages to a human audience. Thus, texts that record the direct speech of a deity and are communicated to an audience by a human intermediary-without recourse to dreams or technical divination-may potentially reflect prophecy in the Mari and Neo-Assyrian sources. Along with a selection of preexilic Hebrew oracular sources, the image of prophecy in all three corpora is independently examined along seven lines: Prompting Prophecy, Prophets, Prophetic Deities, Venues, Means of Delivery, Content of Oracles, and the Responses to Prophecy. Observations gleaned from this analysis are then compared and contrasted with one another to derive a more nuanced understanding of the phenomenon of prophecy in each source. Among other conclusions, it is observed that it is insufficient to simply silhouette Hebrew prophecy against its Mesopotamian counterparts, as if the images of prophecy in Mari and Neo-Assyrian sources themselves represent indistinguishable phenomena. Indeed, despite considerable overlap, they are not completely consistent. This result, it is argued, places in context some of the more glaring discrepancies between these sources and the image of prophecy in the Hebrew sources.

Pasquon, Kelly.

Abstract:
Mars surface has been considered like a currently inactive planet for a long time. Nevertheless, numerous active phenomena have been observed during the last few years such as: gullies, dust devils, dark and bright flows. Most of them are also unexplained and their formation processes are unclear under present Mars conditions. The aim of this PhD is to study some gullies to try to understand their formation processes on Mars at the present time. For this, martian spacecraft data were analyzed and experimental studies were performed. Thanks to HiRISE (High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment) images and HiRISE DTM (Digital Terrain Models), a morphological study was carried out. This study has been completed by a spectroscopic study of the surface thanks to CRISM (Compact Reconnaissance Imaging Spectrometer for Mars) data. Experiments were also performed with a mix of liquid and sand to try to understand the pressure impact on martians flows. Morphological and spectroscopic studies on the southern hemisphere of Mars lead us to conclude that: i) Gullies are seasonal. They have different morphologies, sizes, timing of activities, orientations, and slopes. ii) Gullies are young. They appear and disappear on present-day. Some of them are active since 100 years. iii) CO₂ frost seems to be a good candidate for gullies creation but a participation of liquid water can’t be excluded in some cases. iv) Insolation variations and material accumulations in the upper part of the flow influence the gullies activity. v) Sinuosities can be created by another fluid than liquid water today on Mars. Experiments performed during this PhD demonstrate that: i) Water flow in granular surface and sub-surface triggers higher morphological impact under Martian pressure (~ 7mbar) and Earth pressure (~ 1000 mbar). ii) Exotic sediment transport can be observed at low pressure (~ 7mbar): “levitation” (with gas) and saltation. The morphology and dynamics are influenced by 3 main parameters: the sediment thickness, the temperature variations between the surface and the flow and the amount of flow material. Several seasonal phenomena were analyzed with different approaches. This allowed us to observe and interpret present-day flows and exotic processes. More data and new experiments at low pressure (in particular with CO₂) will help us to better constrain and better understand the formation conditions of current seasonal activities on the Mars surface

Terrelonge, Dion. "Why do so many white working class boys underachieve? : an exploration of underpinning factors and beliefs." Thesis, University of Essex, 2015. http://repository.essex.ac.uk/15476/.

Full text
Abstract:
The media and current literature portray white working class boys as educational failures with restricted life chances. To date, no mixed methods research has been conducted to explore these commonly held views. This study serves as a starting point, taking what we know about achievement and exploring this from the perspective of WWCBs. A two-phase sequential mixed methods exploratory design was used with purposive sampling. All participants were in key stage 3, recorded as white British, in receipt of free school meals and attending a comprehensive secondary school. Participants were categorised as low or high/average attaining, based on their current attainment levels. In phase 1, the School Attitude Assessment Survey-Revised (McCoach, 2002) was used to measure participants’ attitudes on five factors known to be associated with achievement. This data was then analysed using an independent samples T-test. Phase 2 included low attaining pupils only and, using semi-structured interviews, explored the boy’s views and beliefs about schooling. In phase 1, the low and high/average groups did not significantly differ in their academic self-perceptions, attitudes towards school, attitudes towards teachers, goal valuation or self-regulation and motivation. Phase 2 used thematic analysis to explore the interview data of six year 9 boys and identified four over-arching themes: feeling valued in the learning relationship, academic self-perceptions, choosing one’s own path and misalignment. The quantitative phase results indicated that the academic attainment of the participating white working class boys (WWCBs) was not significantly mediated by factors measured by the SAAS-R, and commonly believed to affect achievement. The findings from the qualitative phase supported these findings and generated alternative factors that highlighted the importance of considering the reciprocal nature of education and the effect of relationships on learning. The data suggests a unilateral within child view may not be sufficient in understanding why working class boys underachieve.

Moores, John, Robert Brown, Dante Lauretta, and Peter Smith. "Experimental and theoretical simulation of sublimating dusty water ice with implications for D/H ratios of water ice on Comets and Mars." BioMed Central, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/610231.

Full text
Abstract:
Sublimation experiments have been carried out to determine the effect of the mineral dust content of porous ices on the isotopic composition of the sublimate gas over medium (days to weeks) timescales. Whenever mineral dust of any kind was present, the D/H ratio of the sublimated gas was seen to decrease with time from the bulk ratio. Fractionations of up to 2.5 were observed for dust mixing ratios of 9 wt% and higher of JSC MARS-1 regolith simulant 1-10 mum crushed and sieved fraction. These favored the presence of the light isotope, H2O, in the gas phase. The more dust was added to the mixture, the more pronounced was this effect. Theoretical modeling of gas migration within the porous samples and adsorption on the excavated dust grains was undertaken to explain the results. Adsorption onto the dust grains is able to explain the low D/H ratios in the sublimate gas if adsorption favors retention of HDO over H2O. This leads to significant isotopic enrichment of HDO on the dust over time and depletion in the amount of HDO escaping the system as sublimate gas. This effect is significant for planetary bodies on which water moves mainly through the gas phase and a significant surface reservoir of dust may be found, such as on Comets and Mars. For each of these, inferences about the bulk water D/H ratio as inferred from gas phase measurements needs to be reassessed in light of the volatile cycling history of each body.PACS CODES:98.80.Ft Isotopes, abundances and evolution (astronomy)], 64.70.Hz Sublimation], 68.43.-h Adsorption at solid surfaces]

The Caatinga is the predominant vegetation type in semi-arid region of Brazil, where many inhabitants depend on hunting and gathering for survival, obtaining resources for: food and feed, folk medicine, timber production, etc. It‟s the dry ecosystem with highest population density in the world. The early stages of development are the most critical during the life cycle of a flowering plant and they‟re primordial to its establishment in environments exposed to water stress. Information about adjustments to the growth of the species, correlated with their studies of distribution in Serid? oriental potiguar, are an important ecological and economic standpoint, because they provide subsidies for the development of cultivation techniques, to programs of sustainable use and recovery of degraded areas. This thesis aimed to study the initial growth and foliar morphology in plants like Enterolobium contortisiliquum (Vell.) Morong. (tamboril) and Erythrina velutina Mart. ex Benth (mulungu), species of occurrence in the Caatinga, under water stress. After sowing and emergency, the seedlings were exposed to three water regimes: 450 (control), 225 (moderate stress) and 112.5 (severe stress) mm of water slide for 40 days. Seeding occurred in bags of 5 kg and after the establishment of seedlings thinning was carried out leaving a plantlet per bag. At the beginning the waterings occurred daily with distilled water, passing to be on alternate days after thinning. Twenty and forty days after the thinning seedlings collections were held to be done analysis of growth and biomass partition. When compared to the control group, the treatments with water stress showed reduction in the growth of the aerial part, growth of the greater root, number of leaves and leaflets, dry leaf area and total phytomass in both species, but in general, this effect was most marked for E. velutina. Regarding the partition of biomass, there were few changes throughout the experiment. Morphological changes in the leaves as a function of stress were not significant, however, there was a trend, in both species, to produce narrower leaves, that facilitate heat loss to the environment. It has not been possible to establish a positive relationship between inhibition of growth and distribution of species, whereas E. velutina is a species of most common occurrence in Serid? oriental potiguar. In this way, other aspects should be taken into account when studying the adaptation of species the dry environments, such as salinity, presence of heavy metals, wind speed, etc

Martin, Christine. "Vernichtetes Geld und vernichtendes Geld Das Geldmotiv in den zwei zeitgen??ssischen Romanen "Die Nacht der H??ndler" von Gert Heidenreich und "MOI" von Heiko Michael Hartmann." Thesis, University of Waterloo, 2004. http://hdl.handle.net/10012/736.

Abstract:
The present work deals with the motif of money in contemporary German literature, taking as examples the two novels Die Nacht der H??ndler (1995) by Gert Heidenreich and MOI by Heiko Michael Hartmann (1997). This motif is investigated through an analysis based mainly on four monetary theories: Karl Marx's Das Kapital, Georg Simmel's Philosophie des Geldes, Niklas Luhmann's Die Wirtschaft der Gesellschaft and Jochen H??risch's Kopf oder Zahl. Die Poesie des Geldes. Additionally, theorists such as Jean Baudrillard and Marshall McLuhan will be included in the work. Both relatively recent narratives choose to depict money as subject to dysfunction, and by this means show the dependence of western society on the monetary system. Following Jochen H??risch's argument, this thesis shows that money is the leading medium of modern times: without it, the entire social system would collapse. Through its failure to function as expected, it becomes obvious that money (an artificial human invention) turns against its creator, since money is not only responsible for how people perceive reality but is also the determining factor for human conduct in western society. In depicting this dysfunction, both novels deal with money in its most prominent recent forms - in Heidenreich's novel, virtual money; in Hartmann's, the Euro. These new money form has a big impact on society, as the novels show. As Die Nacht der H??ndler demonstrates, money is nowadays the reality-generating medium, which has become congruent with the real reality (as far as it is generally perceivable). Money obscures reality; because it duplicates the world and yet remains an abstract medium, this doubling causes people to become estranged from the world, its objects and also themselves. This process culminates in the development of virtual money, which reduces everything to a binary code of zeroes and ones. The growing virtualization of other media further amplifies people's alienation. Because money is the ruling medium in our society, humanity is in the grasp of the "Midas touch," as described by Marshall McLuhan. Money encodes everything, even human conduct. According to Georg Simmel, in a monetarily-ruled society lack of character, recklessness and greediness increase, since this is what money requires. In a rationalized society one can only be successful who acts in selfish interests. The MOI-disease passed on by infected currency in Hartmann's novel is an ego-disease, because humans have become increasingly self-centered since the invention of money. Together with the new media, money causes the diminishment and brutalization of human relations, whereby the individual becomes more and more an object of money-ruled processes, as Hartmann in particular shows. Money thus destroys the subject. This thesis also shows, on the basis of the two novels, how money in modern times has come to replace the older medium of religion, as Jochen H??risch has argued. Money creates an alliance with the new electronic media, thus strengthening its reality-generating abilities. It is no longer religion that is responsible for giving meaning to our lives, but rather this new alliance. Both novels demand a return to cultural roots: Heidenreich does so by opposing the counting (Zahlen/Z??hlen) in modern society with the old medium of narration (Erz??hlen). Hartmann, on the other hand, comes to the conclusion that real knowledge can only be reached by religion and philosophy, since they show the way to one's own real self.

Asteraceae is one of the most common families of cerrado herbs and subshrubs. Plants in this family vary widely in structure in response to environmental conditions. The present study aimed to characterize the morphoanatomy and histochemistry of aerial and underground organs of Chrysolaena simplex (Less.) Dematt and Lessingianthus buddleiifolius (Mart. ex DC.) H. Rob., assess the occurrence of certain classes of secondary metabolites through phytochemical analyses, and study the effects of seasonality on morpho-anatomical and physiological traits. The study was carried out in an area of campo rupestre in the Reserva Biológica Prof. José Ângelo Rizzo of Universidade Federal de Goiás, inside Parque Estadual da Serra Dourada (PESD). Adult individuals of C. simplex and L. buddleiifolius were collected in the dry and rainy seasons. Samples were analyzed using standard techniques of plant anatomy and scanning electron microscopy. Fresh material was used for histochemical tests. The phytochemical analysis used standard reactions to detect classes of secondary metabolites. C. simplex e L. buddleiifolius had similar anatomical traits, such as amphistomatic leaves, monostratified epidermis, thin cuticle, glandular and non-glandular trichomes, anisocytic stomata, dorsiventral mesophyll, collateral vascular bundles and hydathodes. Histochemical tests identified the presence of lipophilic substances and phenolic compounds in the studied species. Phytochemical screening of leaf and stem samples detected the presence of steroids, triterpenoids, flavonoids, and coumarins in both species. In contrast, saponins were only found in L. buddleiifolius. Seasonality affected the morpho-anatomy of the species studied, revealing their great phenotypic plasticity. The underground system of C. simplex was a rhizophore, while the system of L. buddleiifolius was a xylopodium. Secretory ducts were found in the adventitious roots of C. simplex, whereas the roots of L. buddleiifolius had secretory endodermis. Both species had lipophilic substances and inulin crystals. Crystals were observed in the entire rhizophore of C. simplex, but exclusively in the roots of L. buddleiifolius. The phytochemical analysis of the underground systems revealed the presence of flavonoids, saponins and coumarins, but steroids and triterpenoids were only detected in C. simplex.

Bester, Hermine. "Developing a repeat sales property price index for residential properties in South Africa / H. Bester." Thesis, North-West University, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/10394/4565.

Abstract:
In South Africa various financial institutions and independent vendors have developed residential property valuation models to estimate the current value of historically traded properties. A natural extension to these models has been to develop historical property price indices. In this dissertation, three of the four approaches to developing property price indices will be examined. Through back–testing and other statistical methods, the most accurate and robust approach will be determined. The four major approaches available are the mean valuation per suburb, the median valuation per suburb, the repeat sales approach and hedonic regression. The mean valuation per suburb approach can be biased because of outliers in property prices. However, outliers in property prices will not influence the median valuation per suburb approach, but in cases where property values in a suburb have a skewed distribution, the valuation amount could be distorted. Neither of the above mentioned shortcomings influences the repeat sales or the hedonic regression approach. To follow the hedonic regression approach, the characteristics of the property need to be known. In South Africa, however, the available property data lacks detailed characteristics of traded properties. This dissertation will therefore focus on the first three methods. The repeat sales approach measures the growth in property prices by applying a generalized linear model to properties that have traded more than once. This approach is only possible if there is a representative amount of repeat sales able to fit a model. The focus of this project will be on the repeat sales approach, but all three the approaches discussed will be analysed to prove that the repeat sales approach is the most accurate in developing a property price index for properties in South Africa.

Were synthesized ferrites of NiZn on systems Ni0,5Zn0,5Fe2O4, the precursors citrate method. The decomposition of the precursors was studied by thermogravimetric analysis and spectroscopy in the infrared region, the temperature of 350?C/3h. The evolution of the phases formed after calcinations at 350?C/3h, 600, 1000 and 1100?C/2h was accompanied by X-ray diffraction using the Rietveld refinement method for better identification os structures formed. Was observed for samples calcined at different temperatures increased crystallinity with increasing calcination temperature, being observed for the samples calcined at 900 and 1100 ? C/2h was the precipitation of a secondary phase, the phase hematite. The ferrocarbonila of industrial origin was analyzed by X-ray diffraction and Rietveld for the identification of its structure. The carbonyl iron was added NiZn ferrite calcined at 350?C/3h, 600, 900, 1000 and 1100?C/2h to the formation of hybrid mixtures. They were then analyzed by Xray diffraction and Rietveld. The NiZn ferrite and ferrocarbonila as well as the hybrid mixtures were subjected to analysis of scanning electron microscopy, magnetic measurements and reflectivity. The magnetic measurements indicated that the ferrite, the ferrocarbonila, as well as hybrid mixtures showed characteristics of soft magnetic material. The addition of ferrocarbonila in all compositions showed an increase in the results of magnetic measurements and reflectivity. Best result was observed in the increase of the magnetization for the hybrid mixture of Ferrocarbonila / ferrite of NiZn calcined at 600?C/2h. The mixture Ferrocarbonila / ferrite calcined 1000?C/2h presented better absorption of electromagnetic radiation in the microwave
Brazilian law imposes restrictions on the use of Permanent Preservation Areas (APP) for agriculture, is necessary to find economically viable alternatives and appropriate environmental legislation. Several family farms are at risk of becoming unviable, the constraints faced by virtue of its location next to rivers, areas of steep slopes or to their own water sources. In the Far-west region of Santa Catarina, various properties which are located at considerable APPs include spaces. Farmers face difficulties in getting the properties become economically viable to produce plots that are left over from the preservation of the PPAs. The objective of this study was to analyze the economic feasibility of growing fruit native APP or degraded areas. Determining the cost of production of the following native fruit species occurring in the region: Jabuticaba (Myrciaria cauliflora (Mart.) O. Berg), Pitanga (Eugenia uniflora L.), cherry (Eugenia involucrata DC.) Araticum and (Annona neosalicifolia H. Rainer). It was considered that the cost seeds and seedlings represent the total production cost for the analysis. We also analyzed the profitability of this type of cultivation compared to APP and profitability from two fruit (peach and orange) and an annual crop (soybean). It was found that these native fruit production is more feasible from seed, mainly due to the price of seedlings is high. The profitability of native fruit is bigger than the orange plantations, and smaller than the peach. The comparison with the soybean crop in the same area, considering the regional technology used showed greater viability in the native fruit.
O. Berg), Pitanga (Eugenia uniflora L.), Cereja (Eugenia involucrata DC.) e Araticum (Annona neosalicifolia H. Rainer).
