Abstract:
Mary Magdalene is a significant figure in the Christian world, largely due to her unique relationship with Christ. As a woman and a reformed prostitute, the Magdalene is an unlikely friend to the son of God. However, despite her low social status and sinful past, Mary is featured in all four Gospels and is present at several crucial moments in Christ’s life and death: she anoints his feet as a sign of humbleness, witnesses his crucifixion and is the first to see his resurrection, after which she leaves society to lead a contemplative life in the desert. As patron saint of repentant sinners and the contemplative life, Mary Magdalene was an aspirational figure in late medieval piety, and the subject of many religious paintings and statues. There were Magdalene cults in Europe from as early as the sixth century, with interest at its peak in the eleventh to thirteenth centuries (Jansen, 18-48). Consequently, accounts of Mary’s life took on an almost mythical quality, with apocryphal texts such as Jacobus de Voraigne’s influential The Golden Legend drawing together the stories of several biblical women. This is evident in the Digby manuscript Magdalene play written around 1490-1530, which conflates Mary as the apostle of the Apostles, with Mary sister of Martha and the woman who has devils exorcised from her by Christ. As well as using scriptural references, the Digby Magdalene also draws heavily on Jacobus to create a narrative of the Magdalene’s entire life.

Abstract:
In his painting of Martha and Mary Magdalene, Caravaggio depicted the two sisters of Lazarus as engaged in a serious conversation. On the one hand Martha is rebuking Mary Magdalene. On the other hand, Mary is responding in that she turns a mirror towards her older sister. The aim of this article is to elucidate how this reciprocal conversation reflects post-Trent propaganda. Martha represents a group of believers that remained within the Catholic Church but did not embrace the changes implemented by the leaders of the Catholic Reformation. Mary Magdalene represents the reformed church that acknowledged, accepted, and implemented the decisions of the Council of Trent. The difference between the two sisters is not in their faith. They differ in their reaction. For Martha, faith was blind. For Mary Magdalene faith is an outcome of the deeds of Christ. Martha believed in Christ and continued to act according to tradition. Magdalene’s reaction is related to gaining knowledge and change, which is what the Catholic Reformation is all about.

Abstract:
In this article I analyze how Americans draw upon the authority of both ancient, so-called “hidden” texts and the authority of scholarly discourse, even overtly fictional scholarly discourse, in their imaginings of the “re-discovered” figure of Mary Magdalene. Reading recent treatments of Mary Magdalene provides me with an entrance onto three topics: how Americans see and use the past, how Americans understand knowledge itself, and how Americans construct “religion” and “spirituality.” I do so through close studies of contemporary websites of communities that focus on Mary Magdalene, as well as examinations of relevant books, historical novels, reader reviews, and comic books. Focusing on Mary Magdalene alongside tropes of wisdom also uncovers the gendered dynamics at play in constructions of antiquity, knowledge, and religious accessibility.

Abstract:
Artykuł jest krytyczną analizą publikacji „Noli me tangere”. Mary Magdalene: One Person, Many Images, powstałą w 2006 r. w ramach interdyscyplinarnego programu badawczego „Mary Magdalene and the Touching of Jesus: An Intra- and Interdisciplinary Investigation of the Interpretation of John 20:17 in Exegesis, Iconography and Pastoral Care”, wspieranego przez Flamandzki Fundusz Badań Naukowych we współpracy z The Centre for Women’s Studies Theology, na Wydziale Teologicznym Katolickiego Uniwersytetu w belgijskim Leuven. Reimund Bieringer (egzegeza Pism Nowego Testamentu), Karlijn Demasure (teologia praktyczna, duszpasterstwo rodzin) oraz Hannelore Devoldere (teologia pastoralna), Barbara Baert (ikonologia sztuki chrześcijańskiej).

Abstract:
The essay is an exploration of how the character Mary Magdalene is portrayed in a selection of four bible films, so called hagiopics. The purpose of this essay is to compare the films with each other and to study if the portraying of her distinguishes in a comparison. Is there variations of her character in the four films and if that´s the case, how has it been expressed.  The films in this study extend over a period of almost 80 years (1927-2004). Do the films differ in a historical comparison by how they portrait her? This is a film analytic, qualitative, comparing study in the science of religion. The results show that the portraying of Mary Magdalene differs in some ways in a comparison but the overall picture of her remains the same. She is portrayed either as a prostitute or a former prostitute who asks Jesus for forgiveness and finds salvation. The results shows that the way she has been portrayed in the popular culture have given her a roll that doesn´t exist in the Gospels. It seems as if it has become normative to portray her in a one dimensional way in the popular culture. The results show that the picture of her as a former prostitute in hagiopics seems to have become consolidated.

Jones, Rachel. "Mary Magdalene as counter-heroine : late Middle English hagiography and social order." Thesis, Cardiff University, 2014. http://orca.cf.ac.uk/58135/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis, which examines episodes from Middle English Magdalene hagiography, argues that Magdalene is represented there as a counter-heroine. It concentrates on the vita in Mirk’s Festial (ca. 1380s); the 1438 Gilte Legende; and Bokenham’s Legendys of Hooly Wummen (completed by 1447). The study contends that Magdalene challenges a variety of hegemonic and patriarchal structures, though her unruliness is typically suppressed by the hagiographers. Chapter one provides context and outlines key terms which run throughout the thesis:subversion, containment and consolidation. The first part foregrounds the thesis’s argument and methodology; the second part introduces the Mary Magdalene cultural narrative; the third situates the thesis in terms of work in related fields. The second chapter interrogates the earliest chronological unit in Magdalene’s medieval biography: the account of her sin and repentance. It argues that Magdalene’s penance represents a moment of containment in the legend. The chapter suggests that the texts, when read as a group, depict Magdalene as choosing to surrender her social, sexual and economic freedoms. At a moment marked by anxieties about changing social roles, the hagiographies endorse a conservative model of social order. Chapter three examines the episodes depicting the Resurrection and Magdalene’s preaching activities in Marseilles. This chapter argues that although Peter’s spiritual authority is emphasized in the post-Resurrection narrative, the subversive potential found in earlier representations of Magdalene’s first witness is never fully erased. It argues, further, that representations of Magdalene preaching allow for readings which align the texts with more heterodox discourses about, for instance, women priests. Chapter four focuses on the scenes describing Magdalene’s years in the wilderness and nightly visitations to a wealthy prince and princess. Whereas chapters two and three argue that the protagonist challenges hegemonic structures in the fields of sexual politics and theology, this chapter argues that the avaricious prince scene presents Magdalene in her littleknown role as a figure of social criticism. The conclusion reiterates the central argument: that medieval hagiography represents Magdalene as an unruly female figure, but that her counter-heroism is frequently contained by structures of her narrative.

Asbo, Kayleen Elizabeth. "Passion and paradox| The myths of Mary Magdalene in music, art and culture." Thesis, Pacifica Graduate Institute, 2015. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=3734016.

Abstract:

Throughout the centuries, Mary Magdalene has occupied a unique position within the religious history of the West as the woman who has carried the collective Shadow of Christianity. In every epoch, Mary Magdalene stands at the crossroads of cultural tension and psychological paradox, holding countless images, projections and societal concerns, inspiring millions of acts of devotion and masterworks of art and music.

This dissertation explores the mythology of Mary Magdalene from her earliest appearances as the faithful witness, disciple and apostle in the New Testament and apocryphal gospels through her later legends as a prostitute, contemplative hermit, princess and priestess, with particular attention paid to artistic and musical portrayals. I suggest that the emerging composite portrait of the 21st century is a healing image of wholeness that integrates all four aspects of the female psyche articulated by Toni Wolff (the Hetaira, Mother, Medial and Amazon) and that Mary Magdalene points the way to a reclamation of the sacred feminine and a reinvigoration of spiritual life.

Magdalene as an icon and mirror of cultural transformation is evident in recent contemporary classical music works, particularly in Mark Adamo's opera The Gospel of Mary Magdalene. My experiences as resident mythologist for the San Francisco Opera during the world premiere of this work form the basis for my observations of the enormous transformational impact of images and stories of Mary Magdalene drawn from the apocryphal gospels and Gnostic tradition. Magdalene as woman who embodies anthropos, or full humanity, has become a catalyzing bridge for individual personal development and communities of diverse scholars and seekers.

This dissertation culminates with a multimedia dramatic production inspired by Medieval mystery plays. The Passion of Mary Magdalene interweaves Taize chants, instrumental music of Estonian composer Arvo Part, traditional Christian hymns and my original compositions with a text drawn from both the Canonical Gospel and the Gospel of Mary and includes images taken from pilgrimages to Mary Magdalene sites in France.

Abstract:
The church of Santa María Magdalena of Matapozuelos (Valladolid) from the sixteenth century, made of Mudejar masonry brickwork combines late Gothic with Renaissance elements, is a Cultural Interest Asset. Its prominent tower is the object of this project. It was proposed the tower is restored to its original monumental value and condition, giving it a new life. The most significant change has been the installation of a fixed staircase extending the existing one to access the bell tower and upper levels, allowing controlled access for visitors and creating a more open and bright interior space, giving it a more functional sense, without losing the permeability of the bell tower. The research begins with the previous studies: historical, archaeological, petrological, photogrammetric and architectural, justifying the action theoretically. This led to the use of traditional methods and materials from the surrounding area in order to preserve the vernacular heritage: the tejar brickwork, the wood in the floorboards and woodwork (specifically elm wood), the vault cladding and the lime rendering of the walls, are highlighted. The problems were identified by classifying them according to their degree of complexity and a project diagnosis was made that served to take the necessary measures for their restoration. Three levels of intervention are established according to their volume of affection, three action groups are proposed according to the nature of the objective to fulfil, and three actions are qualified according to the contribution to the building to be preserved: repair, replacement or addition. This time of methodological study makes us achieve an exhaustive knowledge and a sensory closeness to the building, which makes us "feel it inside": History in architecture is important when it becomes blood. Abstract:
Abstract This paper describes the planning and execution of an integrated Plug and Abandonment (P&A) operation on a well located in the middle of the remote Magdalena River in Colombia. This project was executed using a combination of specialized technologies from multiple service lines, including well control services, Hydraulic Workover (HWO), wireline, cementing, fluids services, and completion tools. An engineering study and river support barges were also a requirement, along with the design, build, and installation of specialist equipment, such as a support structure for the high fluctuations in water levels. The planning and execution of this particular abandonment made this a unique operation, believed to be the first of its kind in the world. This project was performed in a very complex environment where river conditions and water depths allowed only a limited operational window. Since the well had been shut in for 40 years and was located in the middle of the Magdalena River, well integrity was another key concern. Other challenges included designing and implementing a customized structure suitable for supporting HWO operations in a shallow-water environment, developing a complex readiness process that included civil works (structure design and construction), a social approach, local content development, and environmental permits and licenses. Despite the many environmental and well integrity challenges, comprehensive planning and preparation activities were key in successfully executing this under-river P&A project. All phases (including well intervention, mobilization, and demobilization) were accomplished with no recorded HSE or service quality issues. All the activities were executed without impacting the river, fauna, and the environment. This project was also delivered 6% ahead of schedule, 35 days in total and in full compliance with contract requirements and local regulations. This highly complex project represents an achievement for the well operator and service company as it is believed to be the first of its kind in Colombia and worldwide. This success story is a reference for future abandonment operations under similar conditions expected to be required in the Magdalena River in Colombia.

Abstract:
Abstract The development of unconventional reservoir explorations at the Middle Magdalena Valley Basin (MMVB) from Colombia has allowed to determine the natural radionuclides concentration and doses and its interaction with all matrices related with the hydraulic fracturing technic, associated with the local conditions (weather, industrial processes around, and soil). The main objective of this project is to evaluate the behavior of natural radionuclides in the unconventional reservoir environment at MMVB considering all conditions around, comparing the results with other cases related, generating a start point to the radioactive characterization of the area. The study area selected for this project was Kalé, the first research project for hydraulic fracturing in Colombia, locating in Puerto Wilches – Santander at the MMVB, a region recognized for the palm crops. In this case, were selected 81 sampling points for doses (natural background) around Kalé's area using portable detectors and 44 sampling points for activity concentrations using ICP-MS and gamma spectrometry, measuring natural radionuclides such as: U-238, Th-232, Ra-226, Ra-228, K-40 and Pb-210. The results obtained were compared with other cases related around the world in unconventional reservoirs from USA, Argentina and China, and additionally in relation to palm crops. The results of effective doses obtained in the Kalé's area were in a range from 0.07 to 0.39 mSv/y, well below the limit value established by the International Commission for Radioactive Protection (ICRP) of 1 mSv/y, demonstrating a very low risk of radioactive affection. On the other hand, the activity concentrations of natural radionuclides were variables according to radioisotope; for natural decay of U-238 from 18 to 80 Bq/kg, in secular equilibrium with Ra-226; for Th-232 from 22 to 103 Bq/kg, in secular equilibrium with Ra-228, whereas that K-40 showed a range from 162 to 611 Bq/kg and Pb-210 from 37 to 140 Bq/kg. The comparison with other cases around the world demonstrated that Kalé's area is very influenced for the weather, industrial processes around and specially for palm crops, in this way, the behavior of natural radionuclides at MMVB may be closely related not only to the geological conditions, but also with external processes in the area. The results of this project representing an important data to strengthen the baseline of necessary information need to the evaluation of radiometric risks in extractive processes in oil & gas in Colombia, to avoid health and environmental affections.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Background: The leading cause of mortality in children under five years of age is acute lower respiratory tract infections, especially bronchiolitis and pneumonia. Vitamin A supplement has been studied as a potential intervention to decrease severity and prevent acute lower respiratory tract infections from subsequent episodes. This study aimed to determine the relationship between vitamin A deficiency and pneumonia incidence of children under five years of age in West Java. Subjects and Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted using the secondary data from Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey, 2017 in West Java. A sample of 594 toddlers under 5 years of age was obtained for this study. The dependent variable was pneumonia. The independent variable was vitamin A intake. The data were collected using questionnaires. The data were analyzed by chi-square. Results: As many as 38.6% children under five years of age did not get vitamin A supplement. 26.8% of children suffered pneumonia. Inadequate vitamin A intake increased the risk of pneumonia in children under five years of age (OR= 1.011, 95% CI 0.690 to 1.481; p= 1.000). Conclusion: Inadequate vitamin A intake increases the risk of pneumonia in children under five years of age, but it is not statistically significant. Keywords: vitamin A deficiency, pneumonia, prevention, under five years of age, children Correspondence: Magdalena Gultom. Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract One of the most active challenges in the production life cycle is the ability to predict failure to avoid loss of production and increase deferred production. This simple question affects many areas of operation such as maintenance, supply, production, and planning. The digital transformation enables us to disrupt the conventional mode of operation and create space for such solutions. This project aims to improve operational decision making for the logistics of maintenance planning in critical wells with ESP lifting systems of an oil field in Colombia's Upper Magdalena Valley basin. This enhancement is provided by combining Machine Learning techniques for the prediction of downhole pump failures by various agents. This project's scope is predictive failures with Analytics insight. The periodicity of failures and the impact of each of these, measured in terms of deferred production, define the criticality of the wells. The project was developed by conducting an analysis of the state of the art in this type of prediction both within and outside the industry. Following this, historical data is collected, the data to be analyzed is selected and prepared (including sample data balancing), and the data is treated with Python. Following that, the objective is defined based on the criticality of the potential failures, and machine learning algorithms are used to determine the variables with the greatest predictive potential, and then a classification algorithm is run to predict with enough time to support decision making (hours before the event). The outcome of these processes is validated, first with information from the training data and then with hidden data. This paper discusses the advantages of predicting failures in ESP pumps with performance greater than 60%. This is accomplished in two steps, the first of which is determining which variables contribute the most to the prediction of background failures. This analysis produced insights for field decision-making, assisting those who monitor more than 50 variables. The second step took the selected variables and delivered to maintenance planners an algorithm capable of predicting pump failures with high accuracy in enough time to perform preventive maintenance, reducing production deferrals of high-potential wells. This project helps to increase the use of these techniques in Latin America, as well as the development of future research in the field of predictive and prescriptive analytics and the expansion of periods that lead to better tactical decision making. This solution can be extended to other fields with similar failure characteristics, allowing it to contribute to production optimization in a short period.

Abstract:
The Geological Survey of Canada conducted a broad regional study of the Magdalen Basin in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, as part of the Marine Conservation Targets initiative. MCT is a national initiative to protect more of Canada's offshore areas, and resource assessment and related regional mapping are part of the review process. This study assembled a large seismic and geologic database that allowed new regional mapping of several key horizons in this basin. Digital seismic data was donated by industry, and reprocessing undertaken both in-house and with contractors. Wells were correlated and tops from literature were used to indentify regional reflection packages. Regionally consistent two-way time interpretations add to confidence. Depth conversion used regional time-depth functions from literature, which were developed from refraction data, with a residual correction for the water column. Nine regional depth maps and eight isopach maps were produced, including Pre-Horton Basement, Horton Group Isopach, Base Windsor Group, Top Salt, Top Bradelle Formation, Bradelle / Cumberland Isopach, and Top Cable Head Formation. These maps illustrate that the Pre-Horton basement is about 15 km deep in the centre of the basin. Two main trends are visible in the Horton Grabens, which may relate to basin formation, and no significant reactivation of deeper Appalachian structure is observed. In the basin centre, the more robust Base Windsor Unconformity horizon reaches about 12 km deep, and a key reservoir and source sequence in the Bradelle Formation reaches 7 km. These maps are useful for considering regional stratigraphy. The new mapping also constrained basin models and became the input for our Qualitative Petroleum Potential map. Basin modelling reveals scenarios where oil may be preserved. The petroleum potential of the region is highest north of Îles de la Madeleine and southeast of Îles de la Madeleine and northwest of Cape Breton.
