Abstract:
This article employs Stuart Hall’s concept of ‘articulation’ to show how, in the mid-2000s, a loose coalition of tech activists and commentators worked to position mashup music as ‘the sound of the Internet’. Key aesthetic characteristics of mashups were utilized to present Web 2.0 as a specific kind of democratic, participatory media environment – one that had the power to dethrone old social institutions, and to render various kinds of borders and boundaries redundant. This short-lived articulation between mashup and the Internet has had significant benefits for contemporary platforms that have made their fortune on user participation; it has been less beneficial for the longevity of mashup as a genre. Thus, this article inverts the standard presentation of mashup music and network technologies. Generally presented as a musical culture that needed the Internet, mashup can be more fruitfully understood as a music culture that the Internet needed. This reformulation provides cause to question our contemporary relationship to ‘digital optimism’ more generally.

Abstract:
Mashup is a user-centric approach to create value-added new services by utilizing and recombining existing service components. However, as services become increasingly more spontaneous and prevalent on the Internet, finding suitable services from which to develop a mashup based on users’ explicit and implicit requirements remains a daunting task. Several approaches already exist for recommending specific services for users but they are limited to proposing only services with similar functionality. In order to recommend a set of suitable services for a general mashup based on users’ functional specifications, a novel social-aware service recommendation approach, where multi-dimensional social relationships among potential users, topics, mashups, and services are described by a coupled matrices model, is proposed in this paper. Accordingly, a factorization algorithm is designed to predict unobserved relationships, and we use a genetic algorithm to learn some specific parameters, and then construct a comprehensive service recommendation model. Experimental results for a realistic mashup data set indicate that the proposed approach outperforms other state-of-the-art methods.

Abstract:
Increasing physical objects connected to the Internet make it possible for smart things to access all kinds of cloud services. Mashup has been an effective way to the rapid IoT (Internet of Things) application development. It remains a big challenge to bridge the semantic gap between user expectations and application functionality with the development of mashup services. This paper proposes a mashup service recommendation approach via merging semantic features from API descriptions and structural features from the mashup-API network. To validate our approach, large-scale experiments are conducted based on a real-world accessible service repository, ProgrammableWeb. The results show the effectiveness of our proposed approach.

Abstract:
Recently, Mashup is becoming a promising software development method in the mobile service computing environment, which enables software developers to compose existing mobile services to create new or value-added composite RESTful web application. Due to the rapid increment of mobile services on the Internet, it is difficult to find the most suitable services for building user-desired Mashup application. In this paper, we integrate word embeddings enhanced hierarchical Dirichlet process and factorization machines to recommend mobile services to build high-quality Mashup application. This method, first of all, extends the description documents of Mashup applications and mobile services by using Word2vec tool and derives latent topics from the extended description documents of Mashup and mobile services by exploiting the hierarchical Dirichlet process. Secondly, the factorization machine is applied to train these latent topics to predict the probability of mobile services invoked by Mashup and recommend mobile services with high-quality for Mashup development. Finally, the performance of the proposed method is comprehensively evaluated. The experimental results indicate that compared with the existing recommendation methods, the proposed method has significant improvements in MAE and RMSE.

Abstract:
The authors propose a Web-Mashup Application Service Framework for Multivariate Time Series Analytics (MTSA) that supports the services of model definitions, querying, parameter learning, model evaluations, data monitoring, decision recommendations, and web portals. This framework maintains the advantage of combining the strengths of both the domain-knowledge-based and the formal-learning-based approaches and is designed for a more general class of problems over multivariate time series. More specifically, the authors identify a general-hybrid-based model, MTSA – Parameter Estimation, to solve this class of problems in which the objective function is maximized or minimized from the optimal decision parameters regardless of particular time points. This model also allows domain experts to include multiple types of constraints, e.g., global constraints and monitoring constraints. The authors further extend the MTSA data model and query language to support this class of problems for the services of learning, monitoring, and recommendation. At the end, the authors conduct an experimental case study for a university campus microgrid as a practical example to demonstrate our proposed framework, models, and language.

Abstract:
<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> The recent development of internet-based map services has dramatically change how geospatial information is presented to users, novice or professional, for improving the quality and convenience of daily lives. Especially with the innovated internet and computer graphic technology, current map services are designed with comprehensive cartographic considerations and can be simultaneously accessed by multiple clients, with which users can metaphorically establish their understanding towards the phenomena in reality, regardless of where they are. Despite location-based services become increasingly popular, the serviced contents are nevertheless often “static” and the illustration seldom or even fail to adapt to the needs of presenting continuously or periodically changing situations in the real world. From the perspective of intuitive map reading, we argue it is necessary to include the needs of “situational awareness” into the design of map services, so as to improve the human computer interactions in the clients’ application environments. A context-driven approach for the design and mashup of map services are proposed. We first identify three types of map services, namely, reference map services, application-oriented map services and atomic map services. The context of each map services are analysed based on the considerations of theme, time, weather and transportation and described by a set of pre-defined “keywords.” These standardized keywords enable application developers to define rules to select map services with correct contexts and mashup them to meet particular situation needs, e.g., a rainy day map or an emergency medical map services. As the selected map services are already defined with context considerations, their mashup results would be automatically adjusted according to the situations acquired from the clients. By enriching the situational context and enhancing the transparent access of individual map services, a flexible and powerful bridging relationship can be built between the application developers and domain service providers. The proposed approach is hence not only an innovated thinking for designing map services, but should also be seen as a crucial strategy for facilitating interoperable application environments for the ecosystem of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure.</p>

Abstract:
Although maps have been around for a very long time, web maps are yet very young in their origin. Despite their relatively short history, web maps have been developing very rapidly over the past few decades. The use, users and usability of web maps have rapidly expanded along with developments in web technologies and new ways of mapping. In the process of these developments, the terms and terminology surrounding web mapping have also changed and evolved, often relating to the new technologies or new uses. Examples include web mapping, web GIS, cloud mapping, internet mapping, internet GIS, geoweb, map mashup, online mapping etc., not to mention those with prefixes such as “web-based” and “internet-based”. So, how do we keep track of these terms, relate them to each other and have common understandings of their meanings so that references to them are not ambiguous, misunderstood or even different? This paper explores the terms surrounding web mapping and web GIS, and the development of their meaning over time. The paper then suggests the current context in which these terms are used and provides meanings that may assist in better understanding and communicating using these terms in the future.

Abstract:
Modern society expects services to run on any device anywhere, be it an internet service like Google search, or a telecom service like SMS. Why cannot we run Spotify (a famous music player) on my refrigerator, publish a picture of a meal directly to Flicker using my oven, or make a video call from my TV? Thanks to standardized high-level APIs e.g., GSMA OneAPI, developers can nowadays build services for any device with internet connectivity and open platform without integration difficulties. Increasing penetration of such devices allows for increased variety of services built for different types of industries and user groups. This thesis presents a study of a service mash-up that uses both telecom and internet enablers deployed on a Nao robot platform. The robot runs embedded Linux, has internet connectivity, and is equipped with sensors, motors, cameras, speakers, and microphones. This makes it a good prototyping platform for large number of use cases from e.g. consumer electronics, healthcare or manufacturing industries. The prototype implemented in the framework of this thesis shows the robot recognizing people’s faces, answering questions, sending SMS and Facebook updates, locating people, and streaming live video to mobile phones. The thesis is also an extension of the knowledge learned from courses. It covers software architecture design, real-time system design, embedded system, image processing algorithm, and web technologies.

Abstract:

Abstract:
“Mashups” are web-based maps that intermix user-created data with information gathered from multiple online sources. As part of the wave of “Web 2.0” technologies, mashups represent a shift toward distributed authoring and sharing of Internet content, complicating traditional modes of knowledge production. Mashups originated in the open source “hacker” movement and are now associated with the term “neogeography,” used to describe the practice of amateur mapmaking online. In this thesis I ask whether mashups facilitate a cartography that is more accessible and democratic, studying the ways in which mashup authors create alternative community or personal cartographies while remaining dependent on existing power structures for data and resources. I illuminate these issues through a series of examples, such as: mashups that render personal memories about places, maps created by activist groups to counter dominant representations of geography by governments or corporations, and websites that facilitate the collaborative creation and sharing of spatial knowledge within community groups. Contrasting these case studies with traditional paper cartography and GIS, as well as the professional online mapping technologies of the Geospatial Web (or GeoWeb), I explore how mashups attempt to represent personal, subjective, overlapping and contradictory perceptions of space and place. While enthusiastic claims about the ability of mashups to wrest mapmaking from state and corporate hands are currently overstated, I conclude that mashups do in fact provide new ways of collaboratively representing space whose implications are still to be determined.

ABSTRACT: The main objective of this research project is to analyse the contribution of Web 2.0 Services Mashups to the construction of a collective memory, based on the Cidade Velha of Cape Verde Project. Throughout History many efforts have been made in order to preserve the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Usually this heritage is preserved through historical archives such as documents, books, photographs and artifacts. Nevertheless, a significant part of that heritage is not documented, being kept alive by the people who in one way or another are related to a certain historical period. It is therefore necessary to discover strategies and instruments that will allow the collation of the cultural wealth spread throughout the social and cognitive universe of humanity, the so-called collective memory. The underlying theory of the Web 2.0 concept has allowed the creation of a feeling of sharing and collaboration among Internet users. The possibilities of collaboration and interaction allowed by Web 2.0 services such as Flickr or Youtube provided a solution for sharing and collecting information and content about cultural heritage. Following this analysis, in this dissertation the issue of Web 2.0 services aggregation in a Mashup will be discussed, as well as its contribution as an instrument to build a collective memory about the Cidade Velha city in Cabo Verde.

The purpose of this study is to analyze and understand how music festivals in Sweden are marketed today and the changes that will and may occur in the future. Music festivals are a common phenomenon in Sweden today and since most of them only are arranged once a year it gives the marketing of them a special character. Therefore I find it interesting to look at how the development of the Internet will change the marketing of music festivals. This study is based on a qualitative method where I have performed eight interviews with people who have given me their thoughts about this subject. The gathered material and my conclusions of this study are presented in chapter 4 and 5 and for further knowledge about this I recommend you to take a closer look at those chapters.

Abstract:
There would be constant interaction between comic theater, mask, and power that we examine through a comparative and intertextual reading of French francophone, and egyptian plays from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries; focusing on the techniques of camouflage and their targets, which affirm continuity between cultures. We show that “distanciation”, although attached to the serious world of Brechtian dramaturgy, excels in the comic theater of the mask. This project comprises of three parts. In the first chapter of the initial part, we review the metamorphoses of the mask with its processes, by matching comic theater and concept of power. Then we put in a second chapter ,the theoretical basis and methodology, used as the basis for our study; addressing the theater of the mask as a dramatic process of “distanciation”. Firstly we examine the distance through the zones of the text (stage directions, prologue, & embedded shows), where the theater is presented alike. We devote the second part to the exploration of all the processes employed by the playwrights, in order to distance the character wearing the mask of power, highlighting its comic and carnivalesque aspects. The travesty in its various facets imposes a balance of power (relationship of power) between the characters. Which is manifested through verbal and non verbal exchange behind the mask ,space, and time which are vectors of distanciation (as seen in the third part). The spatio-temporal framework, being the holder of a game of make-believe, rooted the relationship of domination caused by the mask. The fictitious emerges an image of reality

This study investigates a way to help building a collective memory using Web 2.0 Mashups, focusing on existing memory-related sporting institution Sport Lisboa e Benfica, with a clear concern with the preservation and safeguarding of equipment and the same immaterial. Memory institutions have hitherto governed the selection, documentation, contextualization, preservation, indexing and promoting aspects of the culture of humanity, historical narratives and individual and collective memories. Most of these memoirs, which are considered cultural heritage is scattered by the collective memory that exists in living members of the communities. As a measure to support activities related to the preservation of memory, expressed a need to foster the creation of effective mechanisms to identify, protect, conserve, enhance and convey that material and immaterial cultural heritage for future generations. With Web 2.0 and all the possibilities it offers, memorial institutions have available Web 2.0 tools that may allow the development of solutions suited to be used for the communication of memory, which can help to some extent, to motivate communities to participate and share. The information and communication technologies (ICT) related to the phenomenon of Web 2.0 to promote participation may give the necessary support for memory institutions to build a collective memory more fully in the Web 2.0 Mashups could well prove a possible solution to the combination of services for the collection of memories with different multimedia expression (text, images, audio or video) over the Internet. Given these factors, this study aims to understand and generate knowledge on how to develop and provide tools based on Web 2.0 services which can help the memory institutions of Sport Lisboa e Benfica in the collection, correlation, indexing of memories and discussion on its objects, events, history, personalities or sites linked to this institution Sport.
