Full textIn order for companies to be able to attract but also retain competent employees, they must have something to offer their employees. This calls for an awareness of the preferences that employees possess, both in terms of their needs and motivation. Nowadays it is the employee’s labor market and companies are challenged to attract competent staff to their organizations. The purpose of this study is therefore to examine, through economics students ‘preferences, what motivates them to start working and what they think would make them stay at a workplace. This study will also chart the needs of the students to create a comprehension for the employer’s responsibility to its employees’ work situation. The result of this study aims to help employers in the industry to attract and also keep competent staff since they, thanks to our study, will be aware of what motivates the economics students and what their needs at a workplace are. Since the purpose of this thesis is focusing on stories and understanding we have made a qualitative study with a deductive research approach. The result will be presented through semi structured interviews with ten economics students from generation Y who are studying at University of Borås. The result will later on be interpreted using our theoretical background. The theories that are used to interpret our results are Self-determination Theory (SDT),Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and Herzberg’s Two Factor Theory to examine economics students’ motivation and needs in relation to a workplace. The study concludes that development and comfort in the workplace was the most important for all of the respondents, but there was also a spread of the attributes of what the different individuals prefered. For instance we could see that the male students were more into materialistic attributes than the female students. The result of this study can give organizations an understanding of what economics students prefer when applying for a job and to stay at a workplace, and by that they can then assimilate the results which hopefully can help them develop and improve thanks to their competent coworkers. This thesis will be given in Swedish.

This work presents a history of the economic thought on poverty measurement - from what can be considered the beginning of the Poverty Economics until the "Rediscovering Poverty" era during the 1960s - as well as a review of the literature on the main poverty measurement tools presented by the Economic Science. We also present, having the multidimensional approach as background, a proposal for a poverty measurement index, somehow innovative regarding the weighting of different attributes considered as elements of deprivation. The aim of the proposed index is to measure poverty as a multidimensional phenomenon, where each dimension of deprivation is weighted in the index according to the Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. This way of weighting makes the proposed index different from the existing indices given that it incorporates elements of a consolidated psychological theory in its structure. Finally, the index is applied using the European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) microdata for Portugal in 2007, and compared with two other methods of measuring multidimensional poverty.

Full textIntroduction: Former studies shows that it must be a balance between monetary and non-monetary rewards. The public service is financed with tax assets which sets an limitation of how much monetary rewards you can get, which also can affect the balance in the reward system. The study aims to explore if there are any differences between monetary and non-monetary rewards connected to motivation and how the balance between these can be achieved within the public service. Literature review: Within this heading are a few motivation theories, such as Maslow (1943) and Herzberg (1968) presented. The chapter also present information about the motivation theories Public Service Motivation and Self Determination Theory. Furthermore, explanations of the study’s central concepts reward system, monetary rewards and non-monetary rewards are given. This is followed by a presentation of previous research that examines different perspectives of public service reward systems. Method: To reciprocate the issues of the study, a qualitative approach through semi-structured interviews is applied. This because of the study’s purpose that aims to analyze the public service coworkers’ experiences of the reward system. The respondents are economists employed within two Swedish municipalities.Result: The study shows that monetary rewards have no significant impact on employees’ motivation in their daily work but that non-monetary rewards affect both their performance and efficiency in the work. However, lack of monetary rewards can be a reason to leave the public sector. Analysis, discussion and conclusion: It is concluded that monetary rewards are a prerequisite for working and not feeling dissatisfaction, and that the limited opportunity for monetary rewards has no major impact on employee’s motivation. The non-monetary rewards, on the other hand, act as motivators to a greater extent and have a chance to reach employees’ inner motivation.

Full textSummary Background: Today, around 158 000 people with dementia lives in Sweden, the number is increasing every year. 92 000 people live at home and according to previous research 35 000 live alone. Research shows that informal support is important for the person with dementia. Living without informal support can then be difficult and there is little knowledge about this. Aim: The aim of the literature review was to investigate the experience of living alone with dementia. Method: A literature review of qualitative articles was compiled with an inductive approach. Data was collected in the databases Cinahl, Medline and PsycInfo. Eight articles with qualitative method were included in the result. Data analysis was conducted according to Friberg's 5-step model. Result: Four main themes were identified in the literature review: loneliness, limitations, meaningfulness, and fear. Conclusion: Individuals living alone with dementia have similar experiences as those with dementia who have an informal caretaker at home. A significant difference is the perception of loneliness that is great among most people living alone with dementia, but the experiences differ between individuals.

Full textA qualitative study regarding the phenomenon social codes was made to create a deeper understanding and develop knowledge about how social codes possibly could have an effect on human labor. The results of the study showed that social codes existed on all the participants workplaces. This was interpreted to imply that social codes was affecting all individuals in a social context on work. The questions of issue was if social codes existed on the labor market, and if these codes could possibly affect the human capital. The aim of the study was to implement interviews with four participants. Further it continued with a phenomenological analysis to illustrate differences and similarities within the results of the interviews. The participants of the study was between 23-56 years old. The study was not made to be able to generalise the studies results to a whole population, but instead to find a more profound description of the phenomenon social codes. Keywords were formulated and then decomposed into five themes to describe social codes and their impact on the human capital. The themes of the study was interpretation of rules and social interaction, alienation and communion, varied impact, changeability and work culture. Full textDue to fast advances in technology and changes in managerial practices, several theories and studies on the future of work have emerged. However, the focus has been on technological and commercial issues, with little interest for human relations and man\'s understanding of his own actualization. Discussions about the role of work, its meaning and purpose have awakened the search for knowledge about mechanisms of satisfaction of human needs through productive action. New ways of working have demanded an increase in autonomy and individuality in the execution of task. This study relies on Maslows (1954) concept of Self-actualization and aims to identify personal information and historical professional profile and work preferences that will connect and correlate with on statistical basis with the SISA Short Index of Self Actualization. Quantitative data was gathered through online questionnaire applied in the first half of 2018, for a 7-day period, presenting questions about personal and professional profile identification and preferences at work + SISA. Total research sample = 4,048. SISA index of the exercise has identified 394 (9,7%) self-actualizing subjects. Higher self-actualization percentages were identified in the older and more experienced group. The odds of being a self-actualizing person has shown to be correlated with educational level and age. The higher the formal education level of a subject, stronger the probability of being a self-actualizing individual. Subjects working on flexible organizations and contemporary management models show 1,39 times more chance of being self-actualized, than workers on hierarchical organizations. 50,7% of the total sample is composed by individuals working under traditional employment strict rules (CLT). Subjects in this group presents lower probability (7,4%) of being self-actualized. Individuals whose jobs and employment agreements are more flexible and autonomous have superior index for self-actualization. 90% of the sample have mentioned negative emotional impact from previous jobs. Conclusions are that self-actualization potential will be higher as the subject is older, more experienced and has higher educational level. Flexible and autonomous working conditions will also have a positive impact on self-actualization index
Dominick, Ruth. "Comparing the motivational needs of 2nd and 3rd year learner nurses on working day and night shifts in academic hospital settings in the Western Cape." University of the Western Cape, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/11394/5199.
Full textClinical learning experiences form an integral part of the 2nd and 3rd year learner nurses' training, because it is in the clinical placement that nurses should acquire the knowledge, skills and values that are necessary for professional practice competency. Nurses who are working night shift routinely feel deserted and left out of the information sphere. In most cases, these nurses find themselves in situations of staff shortages, diminished resources and reduced managerial direction. This situation is leading to demotivation. Maslow’s theory in relation to the hierarchy of human needs is regarded as the basic motivators of human activity. Maslow’s theoretical framework of the hierarchy of basic human needs was employed to compare the motivational needs of 2nd and 3rd year learner nurses who were working either night or day shift at the time of data collection. The purpose of the study was to compare the motivational needs of 2nd and 3rd year learner nurses who were working day and / or night shift. The researcher followed a quantitative, descriptive and comparative survey design with a sample of the population. A sample of 2nd year (n = 103) and 3rd year learner nurses (n = 103) was drawn from each group and a 100 fully completed questionnaires were submitted by each group. The researcher gathered the data with the assistance of a self-administered questionnaire that comprised primarily of closed-ended questions and a 5-point Likert scale was employed to capture their responses. The researcher used a structured questionnaire to explore the perceptions of the 2nd and 3rd year learner nurses about their needs to acquire motivation in the workplace in the context of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. The researcher used descriptive and inferential statistics to analyse the data. Data was plotted and expressed by means of frequency tables. Descriptive statistical analysis and associations between various variables were completed by using parametric tests. The findings of the study were related to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs; i.e. the physiological, safety, social, self-esteem and self-actualisation needs to motivate the 2nd and 3rd year learner nurses during day and night shift. The findings include significant differences between the needs of 2nd and 3rd year respondents in relation to working day and night shift at the health service institutions in the Western Cape Province. In Item 27, the perceived needs of the 2nd and 3rd year respondents to be placed in their units of preference during night shift varied between never to sometimes. The 2nd year respondents (n = 74, 74.0%) and (n = 74, 76.8%) of 3rd year respondents on night shift experienced their need to be placed in a unit of preference to be considered. From the descriptive statistics (Tables 4.15 – 4.220), it was evident that the 2nd year respondents did neither have the highest nor lowest mean values across the study; the observation for the 3rd year respondents was similar. The mean values of night shift respondents mostly scored lower than the day shift mean values. The inferential statistics indicated significant differences between 2nd and 3rd year day shift respondents and between 2nd and 3rd year night shift respondents with night shift depicting more significant differences than day shift. That confirmed that both 2nd and 3rd year learner nurses’ motivational needs of night shift respondents were more pronounced than the needs of day shift respondents. Emerging from this research, recommendations were formulated for clinical educators, nurse educators, unit managers and professional nurses in accordance with Maslow's hierarchy of needs with the purpose of meeting the motivational needs of the 2nd and 3rd year learner nurses at the health service institutions in the Western Cape Province. Validity and reliability principles were applied during the entire research process. The reliability and validity of the research instrument was determined by applying Cronbach's alpha test. The Cronbach alpha coefficients were 0.93 and 0.93 for the day and night shift respondents respectively. Those values were above 70% and close to 100%, which indicated that the questionnaire had been a reliable research instrument. All coefficients of the pilot study were above 70% which indicated that the instrument was consistent and reliable. The reliability of the questions were tested for content and face validity. The researcher observed ethical considerations during the entire research process. Ethical considerations of beneficence, avoiding undue intrusion, the right to privacy, confidentiality, fair treatment, respect for the respondents, the right to freedom and the right to withdraw from the study at any stage, informed consent and protecting respondents from any harm were adhered to. The respondents provided written consent that acknowledged those ethical principles.

Full textNon-profit organizations have great importance for Swedish society. In order to make it possible for non-profit organizations to continue contributing, it is important that the organizations are attractive enough to be able to recruit and keep the volunteers since they are essential for the survival of non-profit organizations. Since the non-profit volunteers execute labor without monetary compensation, the question arose regarding their motivation. The purpose of this essay is to examine what motivates young adults to work without monetary compensation. A qualitative method has been used to study this subject, using semi-structured interviews with 14 participants who have worked in a non-profit student association at a college or university in Sweden during the last two years. The results showed five distinctive motivators for the respondents: a sense of belonging, the possibility to make a difference, personal development, career development, and external influence. The collected data was analyzed based on motivation theories and previous studies within the subject. The conclusion of the study is that volunteers in non-profit organizations experience non-monetary compensation, for instance social networking, experience, and personal development.

Full textClient contact is a central part of social worker’s work environment. This study examines and highlights social worker’s experiences, feelings and attitude in case of no client contact, and how this affects social worker’s job satisfaction, work motivation and work efficiency. When a client does not come to a booked visit or mismanage his/hers agreed contact frequency with his/hers social worker, "a gap" occur in the work where the social worker’s satisfaction, motivation and efficiency at work tend to change. This study is quantitative and highlights the importance of social worker’s perspective on client contact that fails to appear. To get answers to the questions data were collected through a web survey. The questionnaire was sent out to 284 social workers that are active in Jönköping County, of which 115 social workers responded to the survey. Data were collected from the municipalities of Jönköping County through an online survey. The result shows that the social worker’s sense of support in case of no client contact and the opportunity to spend so much time on the client as the social worker deems necessary, is important for the social workers job satisfaction and motivation. For those social workers that experience client contact that fails to appear as a barrier, it also takes longer to start a new task after the realization that a client fails to appear at the agreed contact. When the client contact fail to appear from social worker’s daily work, it prevents social worker’s opportunity to do their work, which includes to do a meaningful work that the client benefit of and enjoy.

Full textThe concept of disability is characterized by limitations on activities and restrictions on participation in society of people under contextual influences. Thus it comprises a dynamic interaction between disability itself, functionality and contextual factors, causing impact on quality of life in different levels, which in turn can lead to different perceptions of human needs to be met. Among the instruments used to assess the degree of incapacity of the person we can mention the Functional Independence Measure (FIM) and the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). In turn, the theory of Maslow\'s human motivation is widely known for trying to explain human needs according to a hierarchical model. The aim of this dissertation is to identify whether human needs, as explained by Maslow\'s theory, of people with disability are been properly evaluated by the commonly used measure instruments like FIM and ICF. A review of literature was performed and the Ground Theory Method was then applied to compare FIM, ICF and Maslow\'s theory of human motivation. As results, the vast majority of FIM domains correspond to the ability to execute activities demanded by physiological, safety and some aspects of belongingness and love needs but none of them can be correlated to the fields of esteem and self-actualization. On the other hand, the ICF provides specific elements for all the domains but self-actualization, where the elements are more subjective and variable. So, we can conclude that the ICF can evaluate in a better way whether the human needs of people with disability are been fulfilled and thus can be used for monitoring the evolution necessary to meet specific needs of people with disability

This study develop a product positioning analysis mechanism based on Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory, so that enterprises can understand the level of needs in target audiences (TA) psychological dimension in low-cost and automated way. The main contributions of our paper are three fold: (1)We designs a product’s Maslow model that provides information of product positioning in target market to enterprises, so as to support refining product positioning strategies, improving features of products, and making decisions. (2)We propose a FOPE Algorithm which extend the method which proposed by Liu et al. (2013), which extracts features and opinions of product from online word-of-mouth articles (reviews) written in Chinese. (3) We propose an Aspect Induction Algorithm that summarized the product features which have similar meaning to a cluster called aspect by AHC (agglomerative hierarchical clustering). (4)We designs a Maslow levels evaluation method that uses Back-Propagation Neural Network (BPN) to map each product features which consumer emphasized to five levels of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Based on these methods, we conduct an empirical study on smart phones and butter Shortcake and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Government expenditure savings, so reducing the defense budget, cut the size of the armed forces, defense organizations and then subsequently changes, the Air Force organized labor also reduced or eliminated. Then, staff turnover and subsequent convergence of manpower shortage, the military unit supplies manpower by outsourcing to the supplementary of demand. Temporary employees are not the full-time military officer, their salaries, vacation, working hours, responsibilities and benefits are all different, but the original mission objectives must be reached. Therefore, we should understand the different background employees' hierarchy of needs and their job involvement at work, in order to provide a reference to military in the personnel management. The results show: first, full-time military administrator and military veterans both pursuit the highest level self-actualization needs after physiological needs and security needs; ranked first for job involvement is internal job satisfaction. Second, general dispatched labor' highest level of demand is social needs; ranked first for job involvement is internal job satisfaction. Last, full-time military administrator and military veterans both pursuit the highest level self-actualization needs, we can see that Maslow's hierarchy of needs with "meet - progress-oriented" stepped path still had the discussion space.

While online shopping websites are facing the difficulties of price and low-quality competition, cross-border online shopping is on a vigorous development trend, showing that cross-border online shopping is an important trend of online shopping field. Due to the complexity of cross-border online shopping is much higher than the traditional domestic online shopping, so understanding the value of cross-border online shopping consumers is the most important success factors. Companies want to develop new markets abroad, must understand the local consumer’s behavior and their decision-making process in order to make good business strategies. This study uses means-end chain to construct Taiwanese cross-border online shopping consumers’ hierarchical value map, and also apply to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, then sorting these value elements’ importance by their position in hierarchy of needs. After obtained the reason why consumers use cross-border online shopping service and what values they got in this service. Researcher can predict and analyze the evolution and development of cross-border online shopping, provide reference for future online shopping academic studies and online shopping industry’s decision-making.

ABSTRACT In many communities, those major public affairs are resulted from the demands of property services around their households. Thus, the Property Service Demands (PSD) could be said as “Cornerstone” of property managements in housing communities. If there were no consensus among their demands of households, then many public affairs would have the infinite choices and instability. In this way, It would be increasing many difficulties of public affair running in housing communities. Presently the PSD researches are rarely, the Taiwan native documents or papers on PSD is absent, as well. This approach of study is base on Maslow's Hierarchy of Demands theory and Transaction cost theory. This study are using housing questionnaires to survey different PSD and dealing with those reply materials by the technologies of Factor Analysis and the Cluster Analysis. Finally this study gains seven PSD factors, as well as five PSD combinations to different kinds of owners in housing communities. The findings of this study are as follows, there are some correlations between the PSD and the theory of Maslow's Hierarchy Demands. Secondly, for the purposes of meeting the housing PSD, some firms could offer different degree sets of property managements through “Security Management”, “Environment Management”, “Mechanical Equipment Maintaining” and “Services of Living Affairs”. Thus these conclusions may be taken as references of the future housing PSD researches.

The new used-book store“Book Off”in Japan. Has changed the style of used-book marketing and increased profitability. Taiwan has a similar used-book store called“Mollie”, How the“Old”second band book industry has changed to the“New”economy of book selling industry. How doses the new economy satisfy the consumers? Base on the need-hierarchy theory developed by Maslow (1943), this research explores the new used-book consumer demand in“Mollie”. And to find out the applicability of the need-hierarchy theory in the analysis of the used-book and the new used-book consumers. Discovers that the Maslow’s need-hierarchy theory can respond to the research of new used-book consumer demand terms of“materialization”,“socialization”,“personaliation”. Therefore, this research finds out that the new used-book consumer demand can use the concept of“Dual-Demand”to explain.

The ROC Ministry of National Defense has undergone a personnel recruitment project with the goal:“To attract talented people, to train them, and to elevate their quality, therefore, to enhance national defense capability.” This study follows the big reform of our military policy, in order to discuss the motivation of people who want to be enlisted in the voluntary military system. In this study, I researched on the theories of Maslow’s Need-hierarchy theory and its effect on youth’s enlistment motivation. My research objects are students who are targets of the recruitment project, with age between 18 to 25 years old, and are currently studying in senior high schools or universities. Date was collected through questionnaires, and various statistical methods, such as Chi-square goodness of fit test, T test, and ANOVA, were used in the analysis. The findings are as follows: 1.Personal attributes, such as“sex”,“education level”, and“family experience in military service”, are significantly correlated to questionee’s willingness to military service. 2.Across the Maslow’s Need-hierarchy, men and women are significantly different in their perception of needs. 3.Difference in family income, parents occupation, and parents education level, reflects significant difference on questionee’s Physiological needs, Safety needs, Belongingness needs; Social needs, Self-esteem needs, Self-actualization needs. 4.The degree of needs in Maslow’s Need-hierarchy has no influence to people’s decision on voluntary military service.

In this study, the reasearcher based on the content of Maslow’s need hierarchy theory to interview an excellent athlete, a coach and scholars from the educational, physical education and administrational fields. The results of the semistructured interviews were analyzed from theoretical and experiential aspects with the template analytic techniques. The results of the research are as followed: 1.In terms of the comprehension of Maslow’s need hierarchy theory, scholars from academic field gained their understanding of the theory in a systematic way. On the other hand, athletes or coaches approached the theory from their own practical experiences. 2.When it came to self-realization, all the interviewees believed that the inclination of human being to pursue for better self is going to lead to self-realization in the end. However, the definition of self-realization is basically neutral without focusing on the positive experiential development only. That is to say, the experience of self-realization could be either positive or negative and needed to be noticed by the following research. 3.Some suggestions were made for Maslow’s need hierarchy theory, including the strengthening of interpersonal relations, the discussion of altruistic behaviors, and the examination and reinterpretation of peak experience in a more rational and objective way. 4.The result of the participants’ peak experience is consistent with the reviewed literature. The peak experiences of every interviewee are different from one another ,and the senior or people who are highly involved in sports gain more peak experiences than the rest. Besides, occupation is believed to be one of the major factors that influence the peak experience. 5.Most of interviewees thought altruism is the most valuable and meaningful part in the living process. The altruistic behaviors bring the sense of happiness and satisfaction, which is an important factor to support the development of life.

This research mainly focuses on exploring the personality and self-realization of the teaparkers through the Hierarchy of Needs Theory from the psychology master Abraham Maslow for allowing our people to know more of the tea issue and satisfy our needs of self-realization. This research collects the study data by means of Qualitative Research Method. Totally interview 3 teaparkers who all have over 20 years’ tea experience. The analyzing result: The teamasters of teaparkers authenticated by civil society participate the tea parties quite often to enjoy their serious leisures. During those tea art showings and performings and interactings among those teaparkers, they shoulder the heritage mission of tea culture, fully enjoying the peak experience and gaining the satisfaction of self-realization. Those teaparkers who grow the tea trees all see their organic tea planting as the cause of conscience business and sell their tea as a way of selling the health to people for making a better world. The life of growing tea trees on the top of mountains is good enough to satisfy the needs of their spiritual cultivations and self-realizations. Those teaparkers who artistically make tea ware appreciate the atmosphere of tea ceremony. Teapot and tea cup making, Zen-sitting, and Zen-tea-poem allow them to gain the wonderful feelings of self-achievement and peak experience, at the same time, also satisfy their needs of self-realization. At the end of this research, I’ll aim on its outcome accordingly to apply the following-up study and recommendation.

Taiwan has the right environment that facilitates the growing demand of global trade in the region. This is evident by the number of foreign businesses establishing business presence in the country in support of their global supply chain expansion. One of key drivers for Taiwan in becoming a strategic value for foreign businesses is its dynamic and competitive workforce. Specifically, the workforce that enables competitiveness is the profession of purchasers. Capable purchasers in the procurement process enable the companies to attain low cost-of-goods-sold competitiveness, capitalize on logistic efficiencies and help goods’ timeliness to market, and ultimately increases profitability. This study utilized Maslow’s hierarchy of needs framework to determine the factors that influence the motivational levels of purchasers within Taiwan’s domestic workforce with foreign workforce of the same profession. The sampling data of this study was 41 domestic purchasers and 21 foreign purchasers, and through SPSS statistic tool, the finding was concluded using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method weighted average. The conclusion of the study yielded that the sequence of importance of the top five needs between domestic and foreign purchasers are different. The results of the domestic purchasers yielded their top five needs in sequence of importance are physiological, self-actualization, self-esteem, knowledge, and safety needs. The results of the foreign purchasers have the order of self-esteem, physiological, knowledge, society, and self-actualization needs. This finding is compiled into a report with recommendations.

As the result of the trend of globalization, most of products in the world are more standardization and normalization. However, even though consumers have same organic need (e.g., food, nutrition, water, air and the desire of shelter), they have various material needs varying from their living environments, social cultures, backgrounds, personality, levels of education, and individual experiences. As the brand competitions in the marketplace are increasing and as consumers have more opportunities and abilities to choose brand of products and services than before, marketers in this era should pay more attentions on the study of consumer behavior. In this thesis, we especially focus on the analysis of consumer’s need hierarchy. On the other hand, consumer may have different behavior in consuming addictive products such as drag or cigarette. Therefore, it is important to analyze the changes of need hierarchy and the addictive behavior together. Moreover, in the thesis we also incorporate consumers’ characteristics, value system, and social-culture climate into analysis. In so doing, we are able to learn what are the effects of consumers’ characteristics and personal values on targeted habitual or addictive behavior; and what are the changes of hierarchy need according to different level of addiction. We collect data from different culture areas, namely, Taiwan and Mainland China in helping to analyze the impacts of social culture and economic environment on consumers’ addictive behavior and on the changes of need hierarchy. The finings of this study are: First, consumers’ needs are easy to move from Maslow’s upper level to lower level as cigarettes are example of addictive products. Second, the culture factor has no significantly influence on the satisfaction of Maslow’s needs hierarchy. The reasons may come from product category (addictive product) or may come the slight of culture differences between of Taiwan and China. In general, it is more effective if firms employ the motivation analysis in implementing their marketing strategy Especially, it is the most direct way to persuade consumers’ to buy the products by understanding their needs and value systems. So this study can provide marketing participants a new way for understanding the reaction of consumers in consuming addictive or habitual products and services.

The Chinese in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China have a certain degree of affluence in their lives and economy. Each of them has its policy and economic systems, cultures, and thinking. They are all Chinese five thousand years ago with the same blood. Based on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and analytic hierarchy process theory (AHP), I try to find out the similarities and differences of motivation to taking out an insurance policy in these three countries. The study shows that customers are much the same on the Maslow hierarchy of Needs for taking out the insurance policy in the three countries. The main conclusions are three: First of all, people in the three countries all pay more attention to safety needs then the physiological needs are secondary of all choice. The second, the connotation of the social needs, the love and belongingness needs, is almost the same. Thirdly, the Chinese in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China are all paying less attention to aesthetic needs in insurance policy consumption. It is worthy of exploring further in the future. Finally, I provide some suggestions and expect to contribute to the market and its development.

The medical institutions should rely on a large number of medical care, technical, and administrative personnel to maintain their operation. The study pointed out that the administrative staff of about 20% of the staff, and in accordance with the unit and distributed in various departments. Although the hospital administrative staff will not directly affect the patient's care quality, but the efficiency and quality of their work for the patient's service quality and satisfaction is still a significant impact. With the increasingly complex hospital management system, the demand and turnover rate of hospital administrators is also the subject of hospital attention. Therefore, this study uses Maslow's theory of demand to explore the relevant factors that affect the needs of hospital administrators and the Intent to stay as a reference for the use of hospital human resources and strengthen service quality and management practices. In this study, we used the sampling method to select the administrative staff of the hospital in Miaoli district, Taiwan as the research object, and discuss the influence of the administrative staff and the change of the population change to the Intent to stay. A total of 150 questionnaires were sent, there are 142 valid questionnaires with the 94.7% response rate. The resulting data were analyzed by calculating simple descriptive statistics, t-tests, one-way ANOVA, and regression analysis; used of SPSS 17.0 for data analysis. The results showed that there were significant positive correlations between physiological needs, safety needs, belongingness and love needs, esteem needs and self-actualization needs and retention intention in district hospital administrators (P<0.01). The safety needs and the intent stay each other affect the interpretation of the total variation measures of 51.8%, showing the more attention to the safety needs of the administrative staff, the higher the intent to stay. However, demographic variables have no significant difference in retention intention. Therefore, this study suggests that hospitals should pay attention to the safety needs of administrative staff such as sound human capital system, enlightened management. In the esteem needs, the hospital should strengthen the internal communication and management skills, so that employees feel respected, and then produce a higher quality of service and a strong desire to stay.

The postpartum nursing center market has been on the rise in Taiwan. Soaring competition among postpartum nursing center operators has led to escalating consumer demands on performances, driving the industry to become more customer-oriented. The study investigated the perception of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs among Taiwanese pregnant women. The postpartum nursing center administrators would know if needs are really in hierarchical order and would be able to know those factors that motivate their value customers and how best to motivate their workers so that the goals of competitive advantage would be achieved. The author examined the relationship between the Maslow’s hierarchy of five dimensions of postpartum nursing center (i.e., physiological needs, safety needs, belongingness and love needs, esteem needs, self-actualization needs). The sample data were collected from 198 pregnant women and potential pregnant women in Taichung district, Taiwan. An evaluation of the missing data and the outliers (i.e., extreme values) of the collected data set led to the elimination of 18 cases, reducing the number of responses to 180 for further statistical analyses. Multiple regression, t-test, person correlation analysis, and ANOVA were conducted to test the relationships. The major finding was that Maslow’s hierarchy of physiology, security, belong and love, esteem, self-actualization were applicable as perceived by the potential customers’ decision to choose the postpartum nursing center; it explains the total variation measures to 31% the model result. Therefore, it is necessary for postpartum nursing center administrators need to study their consumers by asking them what they need rather than making some assumptions. To pinpoint what the customers really need, the postpartum nursing center in central Taiwan should keep communicating with their value customers, to identify the priority dimensions towards customer satisfaction. For example, facility policies and staff training that maximize residents’ participation in daily decision making should be encouraged.

Full textThis dissertation is a contribution to cybernetics, a sub-discipline ofPractical Theology. It is a dialogue between theology and management science. The first part discusses whether such a dialogue is reasonable at all. There are a lot of parallels between wisdom theology in the Old Testament and modern management theory. We discuss the benefits and the limitations of wisdom, and the way Israel took advantage of wisdom knowledge of the surrounding peoples. Finally, we draw conclusions for the way how church leadership could integrate knowledge from management theory. The main part of this dissertation is on anthropology and leadership. McGregor invented 1957/60 the so-called theories X andY. He demonstrated that leadership styles of managers are affected by the way they look at their subordinates. Leaders who regard people as lazy (theory X) will try to movitate people by extrinsic factors. Theory Y assumes that human beings have intrinsic motives to work. This assumption is an implicit basis of modem leadership concepts. The background and influence of these theories are explained. Especially, we follow the way from the anthropology of the reformators to theory X and from theory X (Taylorism) to theory Y. Limitations of theory Y are also discussed. In the next step we describe various facets of Old Testament anthropology dealing with man's willingness and capacity to work. The significance of the imago dei in this context is discussed by and large. Finally, we compare these facets with the theories X and Y. Result: The reformators emphasized one-sidedly the undignity of human beings implying that many Protestants consider theory Y as too positive, too humanistic. Old Testament portrays both the dignity and the undignity of human beings. Old Testament anthropology correlates better with theory Y. Thus theory Y is not an antibiblical theory.
