Guide for Use and Selection of Powder Coating Systems for Protective Purposes. AMPP, 2019. https://doi.org/10.5006/sspc-guide_25-2019.

Full text
Abstract:
Scope This guide provides general information to assist facility owners and specifiers who select or specify powder coating systems to protect steel substrates from corrosion. It includes information about surface preparation and application procedures, and also about coating system durability and performance. Detailed descriptions of substrate selection and pretreatment are beyond the scope of this guide. Coating powder suppliers can provide advice regarding selection of specific primers and finish coats, and powder application and recovery equipment suppliers can assist with the selection of specific equipment. The powder coatings discussed in this guide are suitable for use in the following SSPC Environmental Zones described in Section 1 of SSPC Painting Manual Volume 2, Systems and Specifications and ISO 12944-2: Note: The ISO Corrosivity Categories do not directly correspond to the SSPC Environmental Zones. Table 1 shows an approximate comparison. TYPICAL APPLICATIONS FOR INDUSTRIAL POWDER COATINGS: Handrail, fences, structural façade components, chemical tank linings, pipeline coatings, decorative façade components, structural steel components. Original equipment manufacturing (OEM) applications also include powder coatings but are not within the scope of this guide. UNITS OF MEASURE: This standard provides both IEEE/ASTM/SI 10,(1) International Standards (SI) units and U.S. Customary units. The measurements are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system must be used independently of the other without combining in any way. This standard uses U.S. Customary units with approximate SI units shown in parentheses. Allen, Aaron. Building Early Modern Edinburgh. Edinburgh University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.3366/edinburgh/9781474442381.001.0001.

Abstract:
Masons, carpenters and glaziers were all needed to build a house, but in many cities such trades had separate companies. In Edinburgh, however, they banded together in a single incorporation to seek control of the labour market and defend their privileged position. Such issues were often contested by unfree competitors, municipal regulators and powerful customers. Therefore unity was needed to defend their position and privileges, but with ten unequal arts vying for control of the composite corporate body, how was such unity to be secured? The Edinburgh Incorporation of Mary’s Chapel looked to the models of the family and the household.

Cornelius, Steven H. Music of the Civil War Era. Greenwood Publishing Group, Inc., 2004. http://dx.doi.org/10.5040/9798400688690.

Full text
Abstract:
As divisive and destructive as the Civil War was, the era nevertheless demonstrated the power that music could play in American culture. Popular songs roused passion on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line, and military bands played music to entertain infantry units-and to rally them on to war. The institution of slavery was debated in songs of the day, ranging from abolitionist anthems to racist minstrel shows. Across the larger cultural backdrop, the growth of music publishing led to a flourishing of urban concert music, while folk music became indelibly linked with American populism. This volume, one of the first in theAmerican History through Musicseries, presents narrative chapters that recount the many vibrant roles of music during this troubled period of American history. A chapter of biographical entries, a dictionary of Civil War era music, and a subject index offer useful reference tools. TheAmerican History through Musicseries examines the many different styles of music that have played a significant part in our nation's history. While volumes in this series show the multifaceted roles of music in culture, they also use music as a lens through which readers may study American social history. The authors present in-depth analysis of American musical genres, significant musicians, technological innovations, and the many connections between music and the realms of art, politics, and daily life. Chapters present accessible narratives on music and its cultural resonations, music theory and technique is broken down for the lay reader, and each volume presents a chapter of alphabetically arranged entries on significant people and terms.
